Werewolves!...and other things. But mostly werewolves
Posted 9 years agoHello again and I'm back for my magic set update!
We're back to Innistrad (which I'm happy about because it was the set I started playing in) and everything has been re-corrupted so you know what that means? Werewolves! And something about vampires and zombies and crud but whatever. Let's be honest here. Werewolves. Every furry I know has at some point built a werewolf deck so we all know what the real allure here is. Joking aside, the limited/casual format looks pretty good and plays well with Innistrad's last block, which is always nice.
From a more competitive standpoint, new set means new rotation and goodbye Khans (I'll miss you, my favorite block...), or at least most of it. We still have Dragons (which are as equally awesome as werewolves in my eyes) but thankfully the reign of Rhino is over! At least in Standard. The standard metagame is still very unclear and we'll see where Innistrad takes us. Modern on the other hand...Rhino for days again. With the banning of Eldrazi and the unbanning of Ancestral Vision and Sword of the Meek, we'll be seeing A LOT of blue control decks and thoptors for days. Maybe infinite turns? Who knows!
I'm still working on something cheap and hilarious for Standard and might make a couple changes to modern as well. Anything you're looking forward to?

Oath of the gatewatch and land update
Posted 9 years agoHello again fuzzy folks! I'm back again with more opinions on the new magic set, Oath of the Gatewatch. Can't speak on behalf of constructed but limited is a lot of fun! Instead of going to a prerelease like normal, my friends and I each bought a fat pack and played 2 headed giant with a 9 pack sealed deck. It certainly is a lot of fun playing surge cards off your teammates spells. S̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶a̶ ̶l̶i̶t̶t̶l̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶l̶t̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶g̶o̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶m̶y̶t̶h̶i̶c̶ ̶e̶x̶c̶e̶p̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶. Anyway, any fun things you have managed to pull off? I actually managed to build a blue/black control deck I was really happy with using my 9 packs.
Also, just as a heads up rules wise: There is a new basic land called "wastes" that taps for colorless mana. And just to be clear, that is COLORLESS and not GENERIC. With the addition of oath of the gatewatch, colorless mana now has its own mana symbol. There are new cards that require colorless mana to play that cannot be paid for with other basic lands such as plains or swamps. They can only be paid for with this new mana. In addition, all previous land that tapped for (1) now taps for colorless instead.

Commander 2015
Posted 10 years agoCommander 2015 decklists have been released and you want to know what that means? My wallet will be crying now :[
Most of the commanders look really interesting this time around. I was really excited for green black, but was a little disappointed with the reveal. The commander is AMAZING, but it's not really FUN. The sub commander is a lot more fun, but I already have a Savra deck and they're more or less the same schtick. The blue red commander is also AMAZING but mostly straight value instead of screaming "build around me", even if it is more so than the green black one. I narrowed it down between the sub commander of blue red (who i believe is hilarious) and both commanders of the white black one, ultimately deciding on white black.
Go check them out and start working on those decklists! Feel free to share any.

Shall we embark on an expedition?
Posted 10 years agoHello again ladies and gentlefurs!
It is time for a change of scenery as we shift planes yet again. With today comes a full release of Battle for Zendikar spoilers! Our colorless eldrazi friends (fiends?) have returned in greater numbers and with a new mechanic, Allies are back in their sliver-esque ways, and land is once again a large factor. Some old faces have reappeared, but only time will tell what the future brings.
I'm personally very excited for the colorless theme that comes with this block. I'm planning on having a lot of fun between ramping out giant eldrazis, doing colorless control, or just punching people in the face with lands. What are you looking for?

Magic Panel at SDCC
Posted 10 years agoHello everyone and if you haven't heard yet the magic panel at San Diego Comic Con was.....actually kind of a let down.
The panel itself was enjoyable enough, but the hype wasn't created. There was very little information about the new set, and absolutely nothing about commander or any other side product. Here's what we know/learned:
1) Magic will now be more story oriented. There will be a central cast (the 5 planeswalkers in Origins - Liliana, Nissa, Jace, Chandra, and Gideon), loose story ends will be tied up, and the story will be more prevalent. Each set will contain 5 pivotal events that will take place on cards - events that are very important to the story and should be well known. The example given was that most people know that Elspeth killed Zenagos, but not very many know that Heliod kills Elspeth using her own weapon afterword. Both of these are pivotal events that will be made more clear.
2) Both Akroma, angel of Wrath and Fury were spoiled, albeit for 20 seconds so I am unable to say details as I do not remember.
3) Confirmed Zendikar creature types - Kor and allies.
Confirmed Zendikar characters - Ob Nixilis, Ugin, the five Origin walkers (minus Liliana), and Kiora, who still has Thassa's bident.
Most of the information in the panel was focused on art and story, and I was a little disappointed with the lack of information of new content. It was hinted at that landfall would make a comeback, but it was very unclear. Considering it is Zendikar, the creatures were nothing new, and the only real content we learned was that Ugin, Kiora, and Ob Nixilis will be making appearances which, frankly, wasn't really worth waiting for almost 2 hours and buying the ticket to get in the first place. Ah well!

Sushi Draft!
Posted 10 years agoSo something new and fairly hilarious happened at GP Chiba this past weekend - A sushi draft!
A variety of professional players and commentator Rich Hagon came together to bring us the magic of drafting a pack of 15...bits of sushi. The same draft rules were followed - no player was able to see the contents of their 'pack', and each player took one piece out before passing the rest to the person to their left. Add in horribly cheesy (but entertaining) commentary with a certain player who has difficulty using chopsticks (which is incredibly painful to watch) and you're all set. I'm definitely making my friends try this with me sometime.

The Dragon Invasion
Posted 10 years agoAlrighty everyone time for another check in to see how everyone is doing!
The dragons have invaded! With Dragons of Tarkir having been out for a little over a month it's time to get everyone's opinions. Personally I'm a huge fan of dragons and I'm going to take a (relatively safe) guess and say a good chunk of you do too. I love being able to look at all the amazing art, even if the cards themselves aren't that amazing (I'm looking at you, Shieldhide Dragon!)
What new cards do you love playing with and hate playing against?

Fate Reforged!
Posted 11 years agoHey again everyone. For those of you who don't know, the cards of Fate Reforged have been released! As a Johnny player, I'm looking forward to trying all of the new cards in all sorts of crazy decks. Blue Green morph/manifest looks like a lot of fun so I'm going to try and make that work, but I can always just tweak my current deck with all sorts of new toys.

Tourney Opinions
Posted 11 years agoHello again everyone, I thought I'd try to see if we could get a casual tourney going and wanted to get some ideas from the community. I have been aware of cockatrice for a while now, but I have recently found out about an online, no download required site to play called untap.
http://www.woogerworks.com/
http://www.untap.in/lobbyui/?PQS
What would be the preferred method of play? What format should the event be in?
I was thinking Standard or Commander as that is where most of the player base seems to be. If commander, I'd like to keep things casual and fun and apply house-rules, which are up for discussion. One such example I would use is that Azami, Lady of Scrolls cannot be used as a commander. Every Azami deck I have played against and have heard about from others have all had the same description - the game is grueling, unfun, and Azami players play to win and have no other purpose in mind. Normally, this is understandable. However, in a format designed to be casual, a deck designed to counter everything, take massive amounts of extra turns, and eventually combo out to win after 20 minutes while everyone else is bored watching is not exactly ideal.
If you disagree or would like to add other cards, please leave a comment. Standard cards are not up for discussion, sorry!

Off to a new start!
Posted 11 years agoHello again everyone! This page has been inactive for a pretty long time now so I thought I would try to see if we can get it up and rolling again.
The group's new admin is:
Craulf
Compared to most people I know, I'm fairly new to the magic scene. I started playing around three years ago, just before Innistrad was released. I just recently went to my first GP and got destroyed, but less so than I thought I would be! Thanks to the help of some (rather pushy) friends, I'm slowly working my way into playing more competitively, but I also have a casual group to avoid the stress and play for fun.
I'll try my best to manage the page and would appreciate ideas to help things move along! We can try to get some tournies running again soon if people show interest. I hope we can all have a great time!

We have a Winner!
Posted 11 years agoUpdate and Raffle Giveaway!
Posted 11 years agoHey guys, first off I would like to apologize for my absence here on the page. I've been having a hectic time juggling everything and completely forgot about it page for a while. With that said, I would also like to apologize for the tournament we ran last September that never really got past the first round mostly due to my poor planning with 4 person EDH games. I didn't quite think that one through :P
So! Where do we go from here? Well, I know there was some interest in a Standard tournament before the EDH tournament... If that would be interesting to you guys, please comment below UNDER MY COMMENT ABOUT A STANDARD TOURNAMENT BELOW.
So since I kind of screwed up with the tournament last September, I wanted to make it up to you guys. Remember that promo Garruk? Well... I've decided to give him away in a raffle! How do you enter? Well, easy enough, just REPLY TO MY COMMENT BELOW ABOUT THE RAFFLE and I will number entries. You must be watching the page to be entered. Once entered I will number your entry and use random.org to generate a number between 1 and however many entries we have to pick the winner! The raffle closes this Saturday (2/15) at 11:59 PM Pacific time (West Coast USA). I will be covering the shipping costs wherever our friend Garruk is going!
Anyways, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, etc, please do not hesitate to send a note or simply comment on this journal. I am going to try to be a little more active on this page here because I know a lot of you expressed interest in the page being a bit more active when I took it over...

Gonah is offering trades for Commander Decks!
Posted 12 years agoHere's a message from
Gonah!
Hello!
As the title said, I'm kinda low on funds at the moment (Read: Saving up like a good girl for Christmas!). But I really want those Commander Decks... Well, I don't believe in getting something for nothing, nor do I want to just sit on my ass and whine, so I will offer this: Trades!
I create art in my spare time, anything from visual media:
illustrations(prices vary and we'd have to discuss, this picture would be 60)
tattoos (Also discuss, though something like this pic would be 30)
sketches (NSFW) (10$+5 for each added character)
as well as crafty things like playmats! (60)
lots and lots (60)
of playmats (90)
as ell as mousepads (15) :)
And card alters: Madcap Skills Mortify (10)
I am offering these sorts of things in exchange for decks. I'd consider each deck as 30$ since I know a lot of you can get discounts at certain places and can even get it wholesale! (I'll consider raising this if there are enough people interested, but only if the price were higher.)
If you are interested, please comment or PM (I'm offering this in many places to try and get the word out, so feel free to do the same ^^

Planeswalker Furs September 2013 Tournament!
Posted 12 years agoHey guys! Well, it's here! Time for our first tournament!
This tournament will start on September 6th. The format is EDH/Commander.
We will be using the standard ban list for Commander found here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/re.....eton-commander
We will be using the program Cockatrice. Check the journal named "Cockatrice Support" if you have any trouble figuring it out.
Prize support will (for this time around) be a special promo. It's the Garruk Wildspeaker from Duels of the Planeswalkers. Here's a picture: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11297470/ This card is actually kind of hard to come by now a days, so it's a special treat for our first tournament. :3 Also!
FeralArrow has put up a prize for second place which is a $5 off coupon on one of her yarn tails!
Entry this time is 100% FREE. Yes, you heard me, free! So I expect all of you who can to try to play! :3
Comment below if you would like to enter! I want to get as many people involved in this as possible so we can get a good idea of how you guys like this format, how the tournament works, how the prizes work, etc.

Cockatrice Support
Posted 12 years agoHey guys! So I figured I would make a journal to help you guys out with Cockatrice since some of you have been asking about it.
The program can be found here on the right side under the downloads tab: http://www.woogerworks.com/
This site also can help you find out how to use it if this journal doesn't explain it very well x3
After you've downloaded the program, you'll need the card database which you can find instructions on how to do so here: http://www.woogerworks.com/index.ph.....-card-database
You'll also want to register. This way you can easily join all games on Cockatrice. You can register an account here: http://www.woogerworks.com/index.ph.....ntregistration
The deck editor is pretty self explanatory. You look up which cards you would like to place in your deck and add them in with the buttons in the middle. Then you just save the deck and it's ready to play!
When you're ready to connect, go under the "Cockatrice" tab and press connect. A box will pop up and ask for the following information:
Host: cockatrice.woogerworks.com
Port: 4747
After you've connected, a few more tabs should open. Use the "Chat Room" tab to find games.
If you would like a list of commands, look here! http://www.woogerworks.com/index.ph.....oard-shortcuts
Using the keyboard shortcuts makes the game run a lot faster :3
Hope this journal helps! If you have any more questions or I missed something, comment below and I'll try to help as much as I can!

Prize Support Options
Posted 12 years agoSo with our upcoming tournament (starting date still tbd), I wanted to ask everyone about what kind of prize support you would prefer.
We have a few options here, and I'll be looking into a few things as well.
Option 1: Charge a small entrance fee for the tournament, prize payout as much as I raise in entrance fees as packs.
Option 2: Charge a small entrance fee for the tournament, prize payout as much as I raise in entrance fees for a commission by someone on FA.
Option 3: No entrance fee, no prize (or small prize if I can find something special or pay out of pocket for something).
Let me know what you guys prefer! If you have any other ideas, let me know those as well!

Formats of Choice
Posted 12 years agoSo I've tallied up everyone's comments in the updates journal, it looks like the formats are as follows:
1. Commander with 5 votes
2. Standard with 3 votes
2. Modern with 3 votes
4. Legacy with 2 votes
So it looks like the general interest of the group is in commander/edh. I'll be coming up with a way to do a fun tournament for us. :3

Updates!
Posted 12 years agoHello fellow planeswalkers, I have the pleasure of announcing that our group is undergoing a change of admins!
Our new admin is
RykaHuskypup
I'll go ahead and tell you a bit about myself, I've been a Magic player for a while now, and have played in all types of formats across a wide variety of tournament types. I've even played in GPs as well as SCG Opens. After I got over the whole standard scene, I've been more into the casual side of magic, and I mainly play draft and sealed now. I also have a pretty sweet planeswalker collection I'll probably post sometime on here :3
Anyways, enough about me! Let's talk business here!
I was thinking of ways to spice things up around here! I know another group has been doing tournaments (not as much recently as before) so I thought it might be a cool idea for us to try. I wanted to get some stats from you guys, see what types of formats you like to play and what not. The way we would do this is over Cockatrice, it's a program that can run games of magic over an online server. (It's pretty darn cool if you haven't tried it out) I'm currently thinking of the best way to have prize support for this (other than buying packs out of pocket and sending them to the winner.) so bare with me until then.
So, let me know what you guys think of the idea, also, what formats you like to play!
