Sleep Diary Adventures!
Posted 9 years agoYo!
Do you sleep well at night? Can you keep 24-hours routines if you put yourself to it?
I mean, of course everyone gets tired sometimes or has irregular sleep here and there,
but generally a weekend is all it takes to fix everything, right?
Well... not for me! I have always suspected this "8 hours a day of sleep" thing as I
would most likely sleep 10, 12 during school days. I could keep a week of 8-hour-long
naps, but by the end of the weekend I would sleep through the entire Saturday and it'd
take another week to fix that.
So, recently I decided to try and keep a routine. At the start of this year, I've made an
Excel table with many variables to calculate at what time I should go to bed and wake up
in order to keep a 8 hours of rest a day. Here it is:
http://i.imgur.com/CkhHVuF.png
It's pretty simple and straight-forward, as the formula shows. If I was awake for 10 hours,
I need 5 hours of sleep (half of that amount). If 16, then 8. 16+8 = 24, there's a routine!
While that thing was pretty good for time management, and would work clock-perfectly for
several days in a row, every now and then I would sleep extra 2~4 hours out of NOWHERE.
My schedule was ruined because of that.
But the table kept working as intended after that shift, guessing correctly for a few more
days before another leap came about.
That led me to believe there was an offset somewhere. I was clearly not made by THE LORD
to sleep 8 hours a day.
But... how many hours should I put in the table then? We already spend 1/3 of our lives in
bed, I don't want to make that 10 hours a day... so much to do!
So I started to log every single day of sleep in a new table: http://i.imgur.com/GhdFlRh.png
Not worrying about keeping a routine that much, just studying my "natural" sleep schedule.
Mind you, this is just a sample of these last few weeks, I've logged through 124 days so far.
And I think I can finally attempt to make an educated guess at the new number to aim for!
See, here are a few more charts:
Awake/Asleep proportion on a daily basis:
http://i.imgur.com/z7dKlEx.png
The total time I've spent sleeping as a MEAN, from all these 124 days:
http://i.imgur.com/wdtJofo.png
So yeah, you can notice in the first one there is NO SENSE whatsoever in my sleeping habits.
There are days where I'll sleep 4 hours, there are days I'll sleep 17 hours like a rock.
But the MEAN itself hasn't that many bumps. It's been between 35% and 39% for a good while,
and I've decided 36,6% is the GOLDEN NUMBER.
And... after a bit of fiddling and lots of parenthesis, I present you the NEW, BETTER, IMPROVED
sleep management table:
http://i.imgur.com/MW66cCJ.png
Will that work? Will it last?
Well... I'm not sure, but whatever is the outcome, I think I'll have to deal with 8:47 of sleep per day.
I considered developing some siesta strategy, to cut down some hours, but look how much trouble
I have going to bed ONCE, if I had to do it twice a day and still manage my time, I'd go insane.
Let's keep going insane for a more comfortable future, if I manage to use the magic number! :)
Hope you had fun.

One Minute of Burping
Posted 10 years agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burping
I just wanted to share this article about burps. I really like how they went the extra mile to include a whole-minute audio sample, so there would be no confusion for anyone on how it sounds like!
Ain't the Internet an amazing place?

I don't have to remind you that picking a varied set of songs makes this more fun to everyone who is going to listen, right? :)

01 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAMXGw6fU0U
This is what I do ALL DAY LONG, if you ever wondered!
02 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jITQs_AXRok
This song, on the other hand, paints a better representation of who am I. Yup. Pretty accurate.
03 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euTyRhnqFtA
Have you evern fallen in love really bad? I haven't, but I figure it would feel somewhat like this!
04 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcT-xiD98vM
On the other hand, I had to reject a few people... and this song is a spot-on description of it. It somewhat hurts not being hurt like the person you're hurting, I guess.
05 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_IVh1bDOfc
This is what I think people think of me after they've known me for enough time.
06 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNzYIEY-CcM
Makes me think of childhood, even though I haven't played the game. Perfect peace of mind. This reminds me of cloudy days, under the rain, with a blanket, laying on the sofa, no school today. Everything is silence. I could live forever staring at the beautiful grayness of the weather.
07 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ9vkt7BHYI
This song represents my joy for life. Can anything get any happier than this?
08 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vov7UU8s9VI
This is what I think about death. Very grave, solemn, quiet. The last spark. In this case, the lyrics help, too.
09 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6PsMck5noM
This song helps to remind me humanity is not all bad. I don't particularly get the song's meaning, but the visual landscape that comes to mind is that of a simple rural life, where everyone look after each other. A caring people.
10 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voCCCrD96b0
This song makes me think of how life is beautiful, yet sad. Something that we don't quite control, but we nevertheless try to the very end. And it WILL end. Not only for me, but for everyone. Isn't that... beautifully sad? Who is going to be the last person standing? What will he feel? This, probably. A nice song to close this journal.

Zombie Computer / Bite a Postman TODAY!
Posted 10 years agoAs none of you may know, my notebook is on the verge of dying for about 2 years now! After two oopsie drops and the rising trend of 720p/1080p media becoming a standard, it's pretty impressive how well this 2009 badbo- badgramps operates without ever having gone to a doctor.
So I (finally) saved up and bought me a new laptop - in AUGUST. It's still being assembled (yay) and I won't be seeing it till mid-October, if estimates are correct (they weren't when they promised it to September! D:<).
Until then, I could just keep using my long-term pal as I've done for the last half decade. Yeah? Just one - tw- THREE months couldn't hurt, right?
Except if you're as old as that piece of cheese in my fridge. This sorry veteran laptop had some bad wire coiling - as diagnosed by
Tiido - which made my power supply go ZZZT and dead. And coiled.
Attempts to repair it myself rendered people unusually unwilling to lend me pieces of scrap wire and tinfoil, as if I would commit some kind of accidental arson... what, are you people afraid of (somewhat) controlled explosions? Tiido told me how to do it, and he still has his whole 10 fingers*!
But oh well, bought a new power supply and it just arrived today, 14 days after my order. From a store in the SAME. BURPING. CITY. Post Offices have gone on strike around here and just kept sending my package back and forth through their centers, instead of delivering, so I could F5 the delivery status page and pull my hair out. After this 10-day long ping-pong, they sent it back to the sender. Yahoo!
It arrived on the second attempt, though. Nevertheless, from now on, I shall bite every postman to cross my path. Unless he's a van. Well, maybe even then. Who knows!
And you know what, zombies stink. While it was gone, I missed my grand-grand-grand-notebook. Now it's back from the dead in all its slowness and I'm already looking forward to not using it anymore. C'MON, BRING MY NEW BABY BEFORE IT'S OUTDATED AS WELL!
*Not current information, but true until the period I went on hiatus because no PC. Gotta catch up with the journarama from you folks! Hope your piggies didn't go to the market. Of death.

Most of my stuff gets more views on Weasyl, even though FA has a bigger watch count and even though the comments/favorites in general happen more frequently here as well.
Crawlers over Weasyl?
Mysterious square thumbnails getting the best out of people?
Theories!

Nightmares
Posted 11 years agoHave you ever had those nightmares where you're in a new home and everywhere you look at there is no Internet service?
Then you keep calling every Internet provider for weeks, looking for any solution, and when you find one they keep rescheduling the setup until you file a complaint on a regulatory organization? And the company finally show up bringing cookies?
Well, I received no cookies. But I'm finally back. Missed you guys. :(
Btw, I came back right after the attacks, so just now I'm aware of all that happened... oh boy.
Should this stuff ever happen again, you can catch me up on Weasyl and Tumblr.
Also for the eager ones, some art and some folks are on the way!

[Answers] Miska's Q&A (plus I'm back!)
Posted 11 years agoOy, oy! After a long and longsome hiatus, here I am. I'll be rocking you like a hurricane and back to business!
As an apology, my return is accompanied by a drawing, a song and this Q&A at the same time. Expect me from now on. :)
Tiido Do you enjoy work at DumpDonald's?
"In fact, yes! It doesn't pay that much, but I don't spend loads either. I'm a chatterbox, so dealing with customers is easy. An okay amount of work for the payment so I can live with no worries. And I get FREE LEFTOVERS, MAN!"
Oblivion_Walker How did you come up with Miska?
I nailed down my favorite species and chose the best one for an energetic, young adult. Only then I started developing her personality and background, so I could mix my intentions with a possum's characteristics.
WhiteMantis I'll be hardcore and ask you to fill [this].
HOLY MOLD, LET'S DO THIS!
1: What does their bedroom look like?
A burrow looking attic, in a fraternity.
2: Do they have any daily rituals?
Waiting for others to finish their meals so she can take the leftovers - they have a special appeal to her, as in being lucky to get the last bite. It's instinctive.
3: Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
She goes to work on rollers, as well as to the karate classes, where she practices it.
4: What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
Trash cans are like vending machines, but free and just by every doorstep!
5: Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
She does some cleaning on the main house, as long as their friends are concerned. But actually she just piles up everything she can into her living space, like a garbage collector.
But she keeps her junkyard-bedroom free from organic food in general, and by food I mean garbage. It's an organized chaos with no grease stains nor rotten stuff, but full of mechanical pieces and useless crates.
6: Eating habits and sample daily menu
Morning - breakfast;
- Leftovers, cereal, sandwich, soda, fruits
Noon - lunch at her working place;
- Junk food, processed small creatures, rotten vegetables, paper towels.
Afternoon - fruit in the way to karate
Free night - snacks back at home
- Biscuits, leftovers, milk, Doritos
Busy night - nightclub food/drinks
7: Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
Lazy butt, will probably spend ages just laying down listening to music and falling asleep.
"What, wasting time?! Are you insane, do you have any idea how many things I have out there still to do? I would never waste a single waking hour!"
8: Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
None. Doesn't get the concept.
9: Makeup?
Only if it's thematic in a show or something.
10: Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
Not really, she's too slacky to worry about small things (and medium ones, as a matter of fact).
11: Intellectual pursuits?
She intended going for a nutritionist degree, but gave up on the idea to pursue her musical development.
12: Favorite book genre?
Anything depicting ancient societies goes.
13: Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
Heterossexual. Sees no reason to pry into others' sexuality.
14: Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
Heterochromia. Immunity to poison and her stomach bears pretty much anything.
15: Biggest and smallest short term goal?
Biggest: Getting a good gig to lever her career.
Smallest: Get a raise at DumpDonald's.
16: Biggest and smallest long term goal?
Biggest: Being an acclaimed electronic musician/composer. She's always reading, researching and listening to references for improving.
Smallest: Building a studio to work professionally
17: Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
She prefers to keep it simple, comfy and casual, but good-looking. Something you can put on and forget it exists.
The only ritual would be undoing and redoing her braid before/after work.
18: Favorite beverage?
Strawberry juice.
"So sweet it aches!"
19: What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
Nothing, she usually falls asleep instantly, going to bed only when she's already sleepy.
20: Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
Once a classmate heard about opossum's immunity to poison and dared her to drink some inseticide. Gladly it was true and she only vomited all day long, getting hoarse for a couple days.
She also broke her arm once when trying to ride a skate WHILE wearing rollers. Stupid kid.
Other than that, her health is rock solid.
21: Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
On - Casual dressing, mammals, whiskers, spots, clever and straight to the point speakers.
Off - Fit, fat, over-pierced, scales, air-heads, small talk, bad music, BAD MUSICAL TASTE.
22: Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
Horrible sketches of flaming skulls and laser octopusses.
23: How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
Refer to #5. Absolute chaos at home, but simple and tidy on the looks.
24: Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
She's pretty fast with basic operations because of her work, and studies music. She does also understand more than average about electronic circuits and stuff, due curiosity and her father's influence.
25: How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
"Hopefully in the Top 10..."
26: Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t workout?
Owning a house with a studio and lots of workshops for her garbage treasures to be frankensteined upon.
If things don't work out, she can always keep working where she already does, cause it's enough to pay the bills and keep doing what she likes.
27: What is their biggest regret?
She doesn't linger on things for long, but there are lots of situations where her impulses for leftovers created awkward situations; the shame of the moment keeps fresh in the back of her head, although it's something she will often laugh at.
28: Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?
Her roomate.
Enemies are a waste of time.
29: Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
Totally try to save the more important stuff in her room. If the fire is not that overwhelming, she would even try to fight it.
30: Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)
Didn't happen yet, so not sure.
31: Most prized possession?
A human-size crane bucket built by herself with her dad, rather useless but awesome for showing off.
32: Thoughts on material possessions in general?
Dettached in general from superfluous things advertised around or being sold, but urged to possess it if it's interesting and lying around. Her collection is barely touched, but treasured.
33: Concept of home and family?
Her home and family of origin are great, but she had to move to a greater city for pursuing such an urban dream.
34: Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)
Won't talk unnecessary and awkward stuff, nor make anyone her therapist/emotional trash bin, but will be more than glad to share life events and lived experiences.
35: What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?
Games, drawing.
36: What makes them feel guilty?
Leaving an interesting object behind.
Breaking a promise/not achieveing a personal goal.
Piling up too much work.
37: Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?
Although one would say her decisions are most analytical, she perceives it as "going with the feel".
38: What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?
Silence, meditation, sleeping or going to the park with rollers.
39: Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?
Neither, unless you're talking about musical taste. She can get pretty sporty on that!
40: How misanthropic are they?
"Humans? What is that?" Also refer to 39; since she has no superiority-complex, it makes little sense to belittle others.
41: Hobbies?
Music, building/repairing electronics, roller, karate, creating recipes.
42: How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
Highschool only. Few courses would cater to her needs, so she went with self-education. With enough effort put into it, pretty much anything can be self-taught.
43: Religion?
"Not interested, thanks."
44: Superstitions or views on the occult?
Collects amulets and trinkets as a force of habit, so sometimes you might catch herself trying to believe them as a bonus.
45: Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds?
Words, mostly. If it's something important, though, she might get to actions.
46: If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
Someone part of the musical scene, okay with her habits and okay musical taste. "Okay" because no one can compare to her flawless selection of favorites.
47: How do they express love?
Cooking, being a bit more talkative and crafting presents out of junk. On a more advanced level, cuddling, sharing songs and giving tails.
48: If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
Karate and pub-like cheap shots.
49: Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?
Not particularly, but sure. "I'm not even nearly done yet, give me a few decades!"
As an apology, my return is accompanied by a drawing, a song and this Q&A at the same time. Expect me from now on. :)

"In fact, yes! It doesn't pay that much, but I don't spend loads either. I'm a chatterbox, so dealing with customers is easy. An okay amount of work for the payment so I can live with no worries. And I get FREE LEFTOVERS, MAN!"

I nailed down my favorite species and chose the best one for an energetic, young adult. Only then I started developing her personality and background, so I could mix my intentions with a possum's characteristics.

Morning - breakfast;
- Leftovers, cereal, sandwich, soda, fruits
Noon - lunch at her working place;

[Ask] Miska's Q&A
Posted 11 years agoHello, fellow watchers and visitors. ^^
I'm creating this Journal so you can ask more about Miska, and to talk a bit with you guys instead of just uploading random art. Ask away, introduce yourselves to Miska.
Of course, you can already know some bits about her browsing my (still tiny) gallery.
I don't really know the best way to organize all of this, I might do a compilation of all the questions in a following Journal. Keep tuned!
I'm also on Weasyl!
