My anniversary
Posted 14 years agoSo, Friday was my 31st birthday which makes me a bit of a grey-muzzle in the cub community (I actually do have grey in my beard, but let's not talk about that >.>). Also, this month marks my 12th anniversary as an active fur. I say "active" because, like many of you, I was basically a furry before I knew what furry was.
I discovered furry shortly after starting college when I finally got my own internet connection. I was futzing around online, looking at Secret of NIMH fanfics, when I first found a link to a furry art site (regrettably I don't remember which one, I looked at at least a dozen that first day). Needless to say, I was hooked.
I have to say, the community seems better now than it was then. Back in 1999 the horrible Pleasures of the Fur article had just come out, and it wasn't long before some tard "came out" to his mother in a fursuit on Sex 2K. Now we get media stories about how great Anthrocon is for Pittsburgh's economy and how much money we're raising for charity. There also seems to be less drama in the community these days, although that may be due to my circle of fur-friends getting older along with me. XD
Anyway, I want to thank everyone for everything that furry does for me. I remember how excited I was 12 years ago to find out I wasn't the only one obsessed with this crazy crap, and I'm glad to see our community growing and maturing. Here's hoping it never goes away!

The Mothpocolypse
Posted 14 years agoAbout every five years or so we get a massive swarm of miller moths flying through town. This year's swarm seems especially bad (maybe due to the wet spring?). On the plus side, I've gotten so good with the swatter that I can knock a moth out of mid-air while it's moving. Hopefully the impending hot weather thins the flock somewhat. :P
Spring Cleaning
Posted 14 years agoOkay, so I was watching 327 people. 327 people! I went through my watch list and deleted scores of old accounts. You were deleted if:
1) Your account hadn't been updated in half a year (no journal or submission entries)
2) You were banned
3) Your account was obviously abandoned (everything was deleted or your last journal stated you were leaving).
It was kinda sad going through all the old accounts. There were people who hadn't updated in 2-3 years. Some of them I hadn't even realized were gone until I pulled up their page. I feel sorta bad now. :(
Where does everyone disappear to? Anyway, I'm down to 234 now. If I deleted you and you're still active let me know.

Oh yeah, I'm back
Posted 14 years agoI've been back since Monday, actually. I just never got around to posting. Rural Minnesota was very pretty but also very boring. Also I caught a cold from one of my cousin's spawn. Ummm.... what else? The local beer was pretty good. Not much else to say, really. It's good to be home.
Bye for a bit
Posted 14 years agoI'll be offline for a few days. I have both work and school tomorrow, so if I'm on at all it'll be for a few minutes at most. Early Friday morning I'm flying to Minnesota for a funeral. My mother's mother died earlier this week. She was my last living grandparent. I'll be back Sunday evening. I can use Twitter from my phone, but most furry sites are too difficult to access. I'll see everyone next week.
Come say hi!
Posted 14 years agoI've already seen a bunch of you over there, but if anyone's on babyfur.me look me up.

I'm also regularly on twitter, if anyone else still uses that.

These are the two best places to get a response from me. I'm also often on Inkbunny. I'm telling you all this because I don't check FA very regularly anymore. I'd still like to hear from all my FA friends, though!

I'm back!
Posted 14 years agoI got my internet situation sorted out, so I'll be around more again. Hope to see everyone more than I have been!
Sorry
Posted 14 years agoMy internet access has been pretty limited lately. I'm working on getting that fixed, but until then my comments and other activities will be few and far between (you just can't access most furry sites from your phone). Hope to back into it soon!
An Explanation
Posted 15 years agoHey everyone. I kinda feel like I owe my furry friends/watchers a brief explanation of why I haven't been around much in the past... well, year or so. I've been going through some tough times financially. I left my tedious job at the coffee house last October (2009) to strike out on my own as a freelance journalist. I was hoping to actually use my college degree. I had several thousand dollars saved up and a friend who could throw me some night work from time to time to suppliment my income while leaving my days free to research and write. Unfortunately, my plan didn't work out. I had a hard time breaking into the trade and the little money I was making didn't cover my rent. I lost my apartment last May. Fortunately, I had family living just outside of town I could move in with. I tapped a friend who was able to get me work at a wine shop he manages so I'm employed at least. The job is fun, but doesn't pay that well.
So that's where I am and have been for the past several months. My family's been wonderful. I've been helping them out as much as I can to compensate for the free housing. I miss living in the city something awful, but at least I work there so I'm not in too much withdrawal. I hope to find better work soon, maybe even in my field but I've been having little luck in that area.
I know I haven't been online much. I'm sorry for that. I've missed some birthdays recently (you know who you are!). I'm going to try to make an effort to be more social not only because you guys deserve it, but I need it too. *hugs all around*

This is a bit depressing :C
Posted 15 years agoI got linked to this on Twitter. It explained a lot about my fruitless job search. :P

Your favorite villain
Posted 15 years agoI've been rewatching old Star Trek episodes and I have to say the Borg hold up very well as villains. There's something so creepy about hearing hundreds of them speaking in unison:
"Freedom is irrelevant
Self determination is irrelevant
Your archaic culture is authority driven
It will be adapted to service us
You have been chosen to speak for the Collective
You will be assimilated
Resistance is futile."
It still gives me the shivers even twenty years after it was created.
Who's your favorite villain of television or film?
