Posted 11 years agoPCA Freshman Year Contest Event
Hello all.
Umbreon07 here and I'm proud to introduce t
his contest to both aspiring writers
and artists.
It's a new school year for the Poke Combat Academy!
And as such many new beginnings are
occurring for everyone. The sun is still shining bright but a definite wane can be felt in the air. The
summer air has acquired a hint of a winter's forewarning
chill and the leaves upon the trees have just
begun to change their colors to purple, orange, and gold. An
excited mob of new students steadily pass
through the rustic gates of the generations famous PCA. What will they find? A friend? An enemy? Or
perhaps just trouble?
That's right. This contest is going to focus on the new
freshman just entering the PCA. What do
they encounter on their first day and how do they react
to it?
This contest is going to be divided into two parts. Art and
Writing. Both will pretty much have
the same goal but this way it's fair to everyone who can't
draw or conversely can't write.
Now the idea for this contest is that your newly mint
ed freshman has just entered into the PCA
school on the first day of the school year. As such,
they will probably encounter some sort of big event.
It is then your job to draw or write out this event and h
ow your freshman deals with it.
The prizes are 20 dollars for each category. However there's a special rule. For every 3 people
that join the contest for one of the categories an
extra 5 dollars will be added to that category! This can
go up to a maximum of 40 dollars for each category!
First some ground rules:
1.
The main character in both art and story MUST be at freshman level just starting at the
PCA.
2.
You MUST submit a character profile along with your entry
regarding the Freshman you
are concentrating on. No other profiles are required for
other characters.
3.
Multiple people may submit a single entry. The money would then be split up between
them.
4.
You may submit an entry to both categories. However, the
y can not be the same entry.
5.
No Humans. This one should be obvious but it's better to be
safe.
6.
No Hybrids. The PCA only accepts Pokemorph characters who are of a singular species.
However, they are allowed to have minor asthetics thanks to heritage. For example, an
Arcanine morph with exceptionally fluffy neck ruff because
his mother is an Altaria
morph.
7.
No Shadow Pokemorphs. This is a rule put into place because shadow pokemon are
truly frightening individuals and as such would never be allow
ed within the hallowed
halls of the PCA.
8.
No Delta Pokemorphs.
9.
Legendaries are allowed! Just remember that they are not
any more powerful then most
of the other students. Something they might have to learn
for themselves.
10.
No mature themes in terms of sex, adult eroticism, serious injury, or death as a focus in
the story.
11.
Remember that these are only kids and Freshman. So try to keep their history and
abilities reasonable. Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus won't be judged
as well as someone with
a believable history and conflict.
Now with that out of the way the judges are looking for
some rather unique qualities in these
entries.
The judges would like to see your character interacting with other characters that are not your
own. This means that it would be a good idea to try and find
someone else involved in the PCA to
bounce your character off of! You can also use the faculty that is offered by the PCA main site.
For artists, they would like to see a focus on Pose, Perspective, and Lighting. Your Freshman
must be a focus in the picture.
For writers they would like to see Character Development, Interaction, and Proper Sentence
Structure. Your Freshman must be the main character.
For the most part, they would like the event that happens to your student to be unique, or if not,
then have a unique take on an age old classic. Here are so
me ideas!
Racism: These kids grow up in a pretty diverse world. A
s such it's only makes sense that some
pokemorphs are going to be racist towards others, whether
they mean to or not. (Dark and Ghost types
for example are looked down upon due to their natures while Fairy types might be seen as prissy or
weak.)
Making a Friend: A classic if there ever was. Perhaps t
he kind of friend they make is out of their
comfort zone or maybe they earn their friendship in a heroic/kind way? (Telling off a bully that's
picking on them for example.)
Getting into trouble with the teachers: There's a lot
of teachers. It would only make sense that
your students might not like working under one of the them!
Conflict with their Dorm Mate: Uh ohs! Perhaps your
student is having an issue with their
roommate? They really should stop touching their stuff....
Having a Friendly Spar with an Older Classmate: Just what it says. Perhaps your student would
like to learn from someone more experienced or they just
might be trying to prove themselves to their
peers!
These are only a few examples. I look forward to what
you all come up with! Have fun!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask either me (Umbreon07) or
FallenSpartan We will do our best to
help you out.

Dusting - Answering some Questions.
Posted 11 years agoChecking out the account for old times to post some info.
Currently
ebonyleopard and
ebonypikachu accounts have been posting newer PCA themed artwork, as well as
ceegee and
kaemantis
For those wondering "how to join the PCA". Joining was always as simple as making characters and posting them with the PCA prefext in the submission's title. So long as you were making characters that were in the PCA setting as described in some of the previous journals of the site, then you were good. The PCA specifically refers to the school itself, not necessarily the world surrounding it, which is pretty free form. So using PCA in the title, which may not be a picture or story related to the store, just identifies the characters in your submission exist in the same world as the PCA does.
The idea behind teams (with a minimum of 4 characters, max of 6) were to create battling scenarios where people could RP with one another via either artwork, written text stories, OR if you really wanted to, by actually playing the games via wireless itself. You would obviously have had to find someone on your own to do these things with as there is no longer a structured location (to the writer's knowledge) of where to do so anymore. There used to be an IRC for RPing, but I do not believe it is still running anymore.
When doing and drawing PCA in school related art or stories, it is ok to use the characters listed in the PCA art gallery, as these NPC characters are the staff of the school. Of course, if you do use them please give credit to the character's respective creator and make sure to at least drop the a note/link to your submission.
Any future question that this journal did not answer, please try to direct to
ebonyleopard not here specifically as it may take a long time to get a reply from this account (and maybe still a bit of time from the directed account).

A Trip into History: Q&A Journal
Posted 14 years agoQ:How do I set up my character for this trip?
A: You are to choose one of the 4 History teachers identified in the comic to have your student be 'one' in the 'group' of kids they are over seeing. So you are basically pretended like your student character is in a group of other kids with that specific teacher. Make sure to read those I.D.ed teachers' profiles in the PCA image gallery.
Q: What are the kinds of clothing can my student wear?
A: They are to dress as if they would naturally belong in a medieval setting prior to their leaving for the trip. (Where they buy these outfits..you decide). You want to start them off in civilian like outfits. Armor and what not can be gained later (and believe me, they may end up needing it at some point). Use the pokemon movie that had a middle age theme in them as a starting point idea for style ideas though most any kind of middle age reference will work. Even the clothing style from the up coming pokemon game http://www.pokemon.co.jp/ex/ranse/ seen here will work. Again, the idea is for the students to blind in with their surroundings and not stick out.
Q: What regions will this be taking place in?
A: The trip will begin in the region the PCA is in itself. The Poke-Combat Academy's campus is located on the western outskirts of Viridian City. If the controllers of the supervising teacher characters want to take their kids out of region to explore other areas with the assumed time agreement to return for their departure time, then they may make this desire noted in this journal. Otherwise, it's to be assumed the Teacher characters are NPCs which you can use (keeping them in character in accordance to their file descriptions) as the situation calls for the story/art you are making. It's not expected that everyone use the teacher characters 100% the same. Just assume the same trip is being experienced by different students from those student's individual perspectives.
Q: Just how long will the Event be?
A: "In game wise" the events of the EVENT is scheduled to take place in the span of 7 days. Will this time travel adventure actually be "in story 7 days" will depend on what unexpected situations may 'pop up' during the trip. As for Real World time frame I am open to suggestions of how long people would like to keep this event going. (I, the admin, was thinking of having events like these run quarterly and people will have time to flesh out what they want to do in that time span, but totally open to suggestions of how long people actually want to do this. Clearly though it will not be literally one week worth of time).
Q: Will the Board members that drop us off in the past be sticking around?
A: No. They have school business that they'll have to attend to but they will be back in time to pick up and transport students back. There will be a pair of Poke-Star Rangers will will serve as security for students as they've been sent ahead of time to prepare for the kid's arrival.
Q: Can my character effect changes in the past that will have consequences in the present/future?
A: No. You're on a field trip to learn, not to try to make your family rich in the future, but who's to say what you do when you are there wasn't meant to have happened in the first place that makes things the way they currently are.
Q: Can my character bring stuff back from the past to the present?
A: No. You must not effect the flow of time by removing things from the past, Artie will be made at you and Judgement you home town. You know how sensitive he can be about jewels disappearing.
Q: How many characters can I have in this?
A: As many as you feel you can manage in the story you are telling.
Q: Can I have my characters interact with other people's characters?
A: Yes, IF that person wants. That will have to be something you check with other people who decide to participate.
Q: What happens to other students who don't go on the trip?
A: They're lives will continue just like they always had. In any school not every study gets to go on or chooses to go on a field trip.
Q: What is the world of the past like?
A: We'll be using the anime movie's as a base idea of the past (minus the humans, replace the humans with pokemorphs). But there are a pokemorph vs feral pokemon component to the world. Live is what you'd expect in the middle ages, villages, farms, battles, things in the wild trying to eat you. (And yes, your character's parents have signed the liability forms.)
Any other questions no already answered feel free to ask and I'll try to get back with you on that.
(ONE ADDITIONAL THING): Please do not use the characters of people who are not active in the PCA, it saves us from getting nasty letters about their characters being favored by the site (yes, being faved does indeed bring anger from some people).

PCA SOAP BOX JOURNAL
Posted 14 years agoThis journal is were issues and complaints that are felt need to be made for community discussion should go. Rather than having people leave the PCA, who have been in it for a long time during previous administrations, I'd rather we all work towards making a better, more creator friendly PCA but that can only happen if opinions are offered. (We have mind reading pokemon, but sadly the admin can not read minds).
SO, let's use this journal to express issues, make suggestions of improvement, maybe even say some of the things that you do like (positive feedback helps too because the more we know what is liked, the more of that we can keep doing). Also, think of this as a fresh start. Whatever grievances have happened in the past, are just that, in the past. We are sorta back at square one.
Just one thing though, let's keep this respectful like the adults and young adults that we are? No name calling because that never gets anyone anywhere, and that's a fast way of breaking down the lines of communications.
Remember, a stronger community is a community that has strong communication.

For Community Discussion:
Posted 14 years ago
slifer has a question concerning the PCA community that is out of the realm of the moderator to answer solely, so if others could give their opinions it would be a great help."1. How about 'Dreampokémons'?
They have different abilities then the original Pokémon.
Are they legal? Or are they forbidden?
2. I never get know of the american high school system (the system of the PCA). So who I can see/read how a 'normal' schoolday is?
(Leasons, roomchanges and so on.)
Or is it like the "Gymnasium" or "Realschule" here in germany?
(5th till 13th grade.)
[ Has anyone actually written a PCA story that actually deals with an in-class/school day?]
3. I want to write an 'underground' (crime) story. So I wanted to ask if 3 other PCA-students (members) would like to act with there.
As victim or 'illegal fighter' in the 'Underground' (name of the cavern) will be choosen by the Members and me.
[Moderator suggests Slifer look at
carlito's underground fighting stories if he'd be kind enough to link.]Hope for answer

The Poke Star Rangers (PSR) is PCA related
Posted 14 years agoThe
pokestarrangers is a part of the PCA. It is basically a summer camp where kids go to learn from trained professionals how to become Poke-Rangers and in some cases Poke-Star Rangers (their space division). The PSR was set up as a sort of out of time frame scenario, so it is possible to have kids both in current time PCA things and in the PSR summer camp scenario at the same time without dramatically effecting said character being used.
Basically the current scenario is a group of summer campers (Think of it like ....the Boy Scouts) learning the ropes and getting a chance to have a weekend visit to the PSR Space Station, where hijinks as PCA kids are want to do happen and they eventually get caught in the middle of some unexpected action.
Anyone is able to have a kid participate in the PSR as in the PCA. IT's location is basically at the base of Mt.Moon. Information on it and it's scenarios can be found in this http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/829505/ and other journals.
Currently the largest driving force of active PSR stories is
asuraludu so be sure to check out his gallery to see his PSR stories.

Posted 14 years agoFor those who have AIM and wish to start PCA RP Groups, this journal is for posting your contact info and estimated time of availability.
(PLEASE NOTE, not everyone RPs, and not everyone RPs all the time. People who do wish to do so, this is the journal to let that be known. It is adviced not to pester people who do not offer up RPing info into RPing. RPing is not everyone's cup of tea.
RPGers are responsible for policing themselves and their own groups. The PCA has not Direct control over how people RP and who they allow to RP in their groups (so please do not ask for help or suggestions in that regard.)

Role Play Announcements and Scheduling Journal
Posted 14 years agoThis journal is to be used for people who like to Roleplay and who are interested in either announcing Roleplays they want to have or find people to schedule when and where to RP. Connect with your fellow PCAers and flesh out your characters in joint Roleplay sessions. (Suggestion, an easy way to set up a RP is to use an AIM group chat room feature, where you can invite people into the room and you can RP to your hearts content with private groups if you don't want to do big public ones).
DISCUSSION: TEAM MEMBER CONFIGURATIONS
Posted 14 years agoTopic: Team Roster Numbers.
Currently - A PCA student tend consist of a 4 mon roster with the option of 2 alternates (I.E. Swapable bench players).
IDEA For Discussion - Upping a Team's Active Roster to a 6 mon Roster with 1 additional alternate, HOWEVER, legal battle participation would still limit a team to 4 active fighters at one time, but with an option of two switch out fighters and one unswitchable Bench player (This one would be considered on your Injured Reserved list only able to participate at the very start of a match IF one of the main roster is injured, who would in no way be able to participate in the battle at all, thus taking the place of the I.R. player).
WHY- Questions about team roster sizes have been brought up and considering the number of independent teamless students, the idea of expanding the possible rosters by 1 (techincally since a 6 mon roster is already legal) has come up.
This is not a Rule change. This is a topic for discussion. Please, when giving comments fully explain your pro or con statements so that people will have a full idea of where you are coming from.
Currently - A PCA student tend consist of a 4 mon roster with the option of 2 alternates (I.E. Swapable bench players).

PCA Favorites Gallery
Posted 14 years agoUsually twice a day FA is searched for new PCA entries to be faved by the PCA account. This is done by using FA's Search feature which will either seek out image titles that has "PCA" in the title or PCA (or Poke Combat Academy) in the submission's tag. Once the search is complete, images are simply marked "Faved", and thus becomes one of the many images in the Favorite's Gallery. If an image happens to be tagged that one does not feel should be included in the gallery, please do not take it personally (sometimes the images receive nothing more than a quick glance to double check if the picture actually has pokemon in them, not WHO is in them), please just send a note and the picture will be removed. No harm no foul.
BTW, the Favorite's Gallery is the Official gallery of the PCA, the PCA's gallery is to be considered a resource haven/hub with various information and visual references.

PCA LOCATIONS
Posted 14 years agoHave you created a location on the PCA grounds or in the PCA world that you write/draw/or RPG about and want the community as a whole to be aware of it? This is the journal for you. Describe some of these locations (Ex:
ebonypikachu's McPoffin's the fastfood chain and common teenage work place of various profit and doom) here in this journal or even link to the page with visual examples of these locations, to help build a more unified PCA community.
And in the interest of continuing to strengthen writer/artist interactions, if any artist feel bold enough to bring some of these text written locations to visual life, go for it and send us a note of it and we'll add it to a growing catelogue of locations for future gallery postings (with writer/artist permission of course).

It's a great way to brain storm with another person and make new friends to boot. Help flesh out the PCA community by combining TALENTS!

Please use this journal to write down the name of your Team(s), to prevent duplication of team names.
(There will be a number of journals like this to come to recreate lost information).

Well, Ah..hello.
Posted 14 years agoHello,
ebonyleopard here. Let me say, this, is a total surprise. I'm not sure what lead to this decision, but, let's make the best of it.
It appears the PCA is again in need of a bit of restructoring, which is funny for a school based around evolving. So, I guess the first order of business is getting a functioning solidified faculty.
So, think of this as an open application/job interview to see who will be the defninitive working staff of the PCA. People will be able to submit a character ('Teacher Applicant' needs not only a written description, but also a visual aid to be complete... 'writers are encouraged to find artists to help them with visual aid,' Also, artist with a teacher idea could have a writer proof-read their character descriptions and help them with details if descriptions are not your strong suit. Detailed descriptions of Teacher's personalities and class are highly recommended.) of potential teachers to fill the positions that will be listed below. It's like a job hunt.
Folks who had faculty can resubmit, but the goal is to use the PCA gallery as a hub for artwork of the staff so that everyone will definitively know, who is teaching what, with a set staff that will be consistant throught the theme of the PCA.
Please send submissions for position via note with the teacher's Name and Position being saught in the title (EX: Jim Crogunk - Freshmen Math Teacher).
We are looking for 2 teachers per grade level unless specified as a 1 teacher or 2 teacher specialist (like there wouldn't be a need to have 8 art teachers for instance in a high school).

Steel Combat
Electric Combat
Bug Combat
Dark Combat

Now, this will take a little while to get organized and go through submissions, but keep an eye on the gallery to see who gets Hired for what position (submitting people give permission to post the art of their character in the PCA gallery hub. We'll deal with other positions and what not later). Maybe if a subject gets so many submissions, I'll create a situation where a vote for the teachers can be made. We'll see when we get to that road).
Ok. Ah.. let's see what we can do where and wish me luck here.
EDIT: There will be a time limit for submissions. You have until May 27th. Then applications for this particular round will be closed.
EDIT2: To be clear, this list that is in the works is not to say that noone else will be able to have teachers that are in these positions. This is a baseline collection to establish just what subjects are taught and to get people in the position to teach them, making it easier to increase the staff as time goes on with a unifed Education Department according to subject. Consider this Round one. That is why I need people to put the teacher and the subject they teach in the header so that I can more easily create a database of just what teachers exist and just what it is they actually teach.
