Simply don't have the words...
Posted 9 years agoSo last year I attended my first Midwest FurFest and this being my first American con it blew me away.
That said, it blew me away to such a degree it made me worry this year would be the same or less in terms of pure awe.
Never have I been more wrong in my life.
Where to even begin?
Perhaps with Bigcee as he made it possible for me to stay in the main hotel. And not only that, he is then directly and indirectly responsible for many more amazing things that without him would never have happened.
Be it taking photos for me with my camera while I was in suit or by simply having amazing people in our room I then bump into when entering.
From there my adventure continued in the most unexpected of ways.
Prior the con I see an FA journal from Tzup that he is attending MFF. He was gone for years so I finally got to hang out with my Australian buddy again.
Then at the con I totally get surprised by the fact Trigger and Bariki are there and get to see them too after such a long time.
But perhaps the most totally unexpected mind blowing thing that has happened was meeting Tohru in real life after knowing one another for some time online. She too disappeared for a while and reached out to me when she learned I was at the con.
Then I also had tons of fun walking around with my new shiny Sony Alpha 6000 and took over 3440 photos in total (including the Chicago holiday prior the con) and about an hour of video footage.
It was absolutely amazing to not only take photos around the lobby but also to do some private shoots, which all turned out rather well.
Now to get all these photos out to the subjects in question and it also won't be too long before my MFF video will be on YouTube!
Other than that it was just so awesome to meet up with old and new people alike throughout the entire convention. Either at the convention or outside during dinner somewhere.
And boy did I had a few good dinners.
Again thanks to many generous people and most notably Commander Wolf, who took me out to Fogo de Chau in exchange for some fursuit snuggles. I definitely made sure they were worth his while let me tell you!
One notable highlight when it comes to meeting new people is Caylen, who is a very sweet fox indeed. It just clicked right away on so many levels and I am so happy to have finally met him as we were apparently both at EF as well without knowing of one another. And who knows how many other European cons prior as he's from the UK!
Better late than never, so I hope to run into this sweetie many more times. <3
Now I could go on forever and mention tons more things and people, but this will be it for now.
All in all it was just super intense from start to finish and no matter what next year is going to be like... I will return to this amazing con! One way or another!

This year is going to be awesome. More awesome then 2014.
Last year was hectic and people seemed to have a lot less time for one another in general.
I have the feeling this will change considerably in 2015. The first weekends have already proved this.
Time to catch up with old friends and a bit more with friends in general. And make new ones of course!
There are several people I've only briefly met last year and this year I would really like to get to known them better, and hang out more.
Freckles v2 was completed since May last year and my name has silently started shifting from "Pony" to "PonyFox".
Although I'll always be an equine at the core, I cannot help but admit that I've been totally foxyfied. People even started calling me "fox" instead of "horse" as of late.
But it is ok and I've embraced it. You may continue to do so, as you may also address me and my equine fursona at any given time if you wish.
Although it is quite unique I am actually writing an actual journal here, I won't make it too long and rambly. So, time to announce where I and Freckles shall appear this year!

The long wait is over!
Had some problems "letting it go" always perfecting and optimizing the video and after that I had some serious rendering problems.
Then after finally uploading it I had to take it down again by request of a fur as he had a major complaint, edit the requested content out, re-render it and upload it again.
But finally... here we are and I still love my baby and the final result is quite entertaining if I say so myself.
Apart from the lengthy dedicated sequence to Cherry the bear (feat. Jenari) I'd say everything paces quickly and you will have a blast watching it, even if you weren't there yourself. And a few laughs I am sure!
(So no, you won't find a lengthy much too long endless 20+ minute stage show in there like in my Eurofurence 15 video. :P)
Grab a drink, grab a snack, sit back and enjoy!

Serious business: Are we free in the Furry Fandom?

Accepting... Open-minded... I think many furries identify with these words. They are great words and I
believe many furries define the furry fandom with these words. It is great to be able to be yourself, to
have a place where people accept you for who you are, no matter what unusual clothes you might wear,
what unusual fetish you might have or what unusual life-style you may live by. Because of this acceptance
and kindness I have felt during my active time in the furry fandom I have started to feel at home and feel
free to be whoever I want to be. This is one of the best things a person can experience in their life: this
feeling of being free to be whoever they are.
But how far can we accept? I have seen it so many times, people who don't accept something or find
something hard to accept within the furry fandom. Next thing that happens is that they get bitched at, and
not just a little bit. People who don't even know each other start fighting over little things, just because
this one person had difficulties not accepting something. Is this how we want to treat each other? Is this
how we want to act towards one another? Or should we be a bit more accepting towards this person having
difficulties? Should we accept the fact that not everyone accepts everything?
As a person who has something unusual, which may be difficult to understand for a lot of people, I think it
is important to be aware of possible negative reactions, of the possibility that not everyone will
understand, not even in the furry fandom. We are all individuals, with our individual ideas and values, so I
don't think it is fair to expect everyone to be equally open-minded as yourself. I mean, how many people
are there that have a problem with homosexuals? How many people are there that have a problem with
afro American people? How many people are there that have a problem with the Islam? Of course I am
just naming a few things that are big issues about acceptance in the world and I am definitely not a
discriminating person, let that be clear. But you see, in my opinion these issues are minor, they're silly
and they shouldn't even be bitched about, yet there are people having difficulties with them.
Now imagine there's a more shocking thing to hear about, and there are plenty of shocking artworks here
on FurAffinity, in my opinion. They are someone's fetish maybe... Probably... Many people would be
shocked to see those things or to read certain things... And for everyone who is not a furry it is
completely understandable that they wouldn't accept something or be shocked by it, yet when you are a
furry you're not able to express your shock or your trouble with accepting it without being bitched at. I
think this is a matter that should be thought about and that we should be very aware of.
What if many people are so scared of being bitched at because they are insecure? Because they are scared
of being left alone? Because they would feel like an outsider? Again? Many of us know what it is like to be
an outsider. From what I see the majority of people in the furry fandom have experienced being an
outsider themselves, including myself. I have been bullied for such a long time and I have felt incredibly
alone. I have come out stronger, though, and that is why I am speaking out right now about this, speaking
for the people who are afraid of being alone and therefore accepting everything they come across, even if
it would contradict with their own values. Just because they don't feel free.
So I think we, everyone in the furry fandom, should not only be accepting and open-minded, but also
understanding and respecting. If someone has difficulties accepting something, at least try to respect that
fact and maybe even try to understand them and their situation. Respect is such an important matter in
the world and I think that, if we want to show the world what we are capable of, what we stand for, we
have to start showing respect to each other within the fandom.
To conclude all of this I want to ask you to share this journal if you agree, either by putting a link in your
journal or plainly copy-pasting the text. I don't care how you do it, but I think it is important this message
is out there, for you and everyone else to read. On to a free life, with our free opinions and our very own
values.

this one person had difficulties not accepting something. Is this how we want to treat each other? Is this
how we want to act towards one another? Or should we be a bit more accepting towards this person having
difficulties? Should we accept the fact that not everyone accepts everything?
As a person who has something unusual, which may be difficult to understand for a lot of people, I think it
is important to be aware of possible negative reactions, of the possibility that not everyone will
understand, not even in the furry fandom. We are all individuals, with our individual ideas and values, so I
don't think it is fair to expect everyone to be equally open-minded as yourself. I mean, how many people
are there that have a problem with homosexuals? How many people are there that have a problem with
afro American people? How many people are there that have a problem with the Islam? Of course I am
just naming a few things that are big issues about acceptance in the world and I am definitely not a
discriminating person, let that be clear. But you see, in my opinion these issues are minor, they're silly
and they shouldn't even be bitched about, yet there are people having difficulties with them.
Now imagine there's a more shocking thing to hear about, and there are plenty of shocking artworks here
on FurAffinity, in my opinion. They are someone's fetish maybe... Probably... Many people would be
shocked to see those things or to read certain things... And for everyone who is not a furry it is
completely understandable that they wouldn't accept something or be shocked by it, yet when you are a
furry you're not able to express your shock or your trouble with accepting it without being bitched at. I
think this is a matter that should be thought about and that we should be very aware of.
What if many people are so scared of being bitched at because they are insecure? Because they are scared
of being left alone? Because they would feel like an outsider? Again? Many of us know what it is like to be
an outsider. From what I see the majority of people in the furry fandom have experienced being an
outsider themselves, including myself. I have been bullied for such a long time and I have felt incredibly
alone. I have come out stronger, though, and that is why I am speaking out right now about this, speaking
for the people who are afraid of being alone and therefore accepting everything they come across, even if
it would contradict with their own values. Just because they don't feel free.
So I think we, everyone in the furry fandom, should not only be accepting and open-minded, but also
understanding and respecting. If someone has difficulties accepting something, at least try to respect that
fact and maybe even try to understand them and their situation. Respect is such an important matter in
the world and I think that, if we want to show the world what we are capable of, what we stand for, we
have to start showing respect to each other within the fandom.
To conclude all of this I want to ask you to share this journal if you agree, either by putting a link in your
journal or plainly copy-pasting the text. I don't care how you do it, but I think it is important this message
is out there, for you and everyone else to read. On to a free life, with our free opinions and our very own

Out of the furry pool, dipping into the brony pool.
Posted 13 years agoWell, it seems that I've said goodbye to one of the last channels on Furnet (IRC) this evening.
Writing this journal makes me aware of the fact that I have 675 new messages, because I don't even check FA that much anymore compared to back in the day (daily basis.)
It makes me realize more and more just how much I am distancing myself from the furry fandom in general bit by bit.
Be it conscious and/or subconscious.
This is not really a bad thing. I made many great friends within the furry fandom, who I hold close and dear.
It just means that I found a new fandom in which I find more love and tolerance, making me feel more at home.
It feels more like a whole, one herd. It's still young and full of energy.
Nothing lasts forever, and perhaps this new fandom won't either. But that's ok... we will see about it then.
So what about the conventions in 2013? This is a tough one indeed.
As some of you might have read in my previous journal there was a shortage of money and a shift in priorities that prevented me from attending virtually any convention this year.
However. Despite the fact I have budget to perhaps attend something like CFz or EF, the only reason why I might go forward with that is the fore mentioned reason: keeping those friends I made close and dear.
By the looks of it, I am only attending two cons next year:
- Furry Weekend Holland
- Confuzzled
Although the last one already hangs in the balance for that matter.
Friendship goes over money, but sometimes there are more practical necessities that actually need that money even more.
As I said: a tough one indeed.
So what about FA?
Because it's a handy tool and also provides some entertainment as I do appreciate furry art and always will, it shall continue to exist. It has much more use and practical value then that last IRC channel on Furnet, which ironically wasn't even that much related to furry itself.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Dutch brony forum and IRC channel to catch up to. And perhaps when I feel like it, I just might find the interest to come back here and catch up on those (at that time more then) 675 messages.
Leaving the fandom, BRB
Posted 13 years agoThe year 2012 has become a completely new ball game for me.
Currently I am doing a complete re-focus on what I believe is important to me in life.
There are several things that will be very different compared to last year and perhaps the years before: my goals.
These goals "forced" me to make some "tough" choices. One of them is: no conventions this year.
At all.
Not one.
Even "smaller" things like Cologne Furdance have been scrapped off.
This year, I'll be focusing on smaller gatherings and individual visits to those who lie close to my heart.
So why this heavily reduced outlook on furry activity this coming year? Well, lets get back to that shall we?
My two goals for this year are as follows:
(1) Moving to my *own* place: Lived with parents, lived with human girlfriend and now living with a roomy.
(2) Traveling: This year, I intend to visit a good friend in California (again) and will be meeting a new one in Canada.
Of course I don't have to tell you that these two goals will suck me dry both financially and regarding the many hours that are needed to take off from work.
It also feels like the right thing to do this year, so I don't have any regrets when it comes to missing out on big cons.
I've made many friends and I keep making many more. 2011 was just crazy con-wise.
The need to be really occupied and social has dropped significantly, so now it's time to step back and spend my precious time with those truly close to my heart as mentioned earlier.
The fandom is a great and inspiring place, don't get me wrong. But I also see the "other side" of it, and I am tired of seeing the social and political games around me.
When it comes to drama on a personal level, I am happy to report that there was none towards me really. It's just observing what happens (to friends) around me.
Perhaps I am getting too old for this shit and hence I started to "filter" my life, so to speak.
This brings me to my next item when it comes to re-focusing:
- Just deleted my LifeJournal account. Completely.
- Also said goodbye to IRC. Completely.
- Cleaned up MSN. Thoroughly.
- Cleaned up Twitter, and will be switching back to a protected account. Forever.
- And so on.
Social mediums on the Internet that no longer offer a true value in my life, will be abandoned/terminated. And otherwise cleaned/tweaked to say the least.
It feels good, because it fits my new focus and there really is no point having the entire fandom added to all your social media just because you happen to share a common interest.
My FA (albeit a minor tweak to my profile text, see if you can spot it heheh) will remain unchanged.
If there is something I want to keep that is "furry", then it's my FA account. No worries there!
So please don't take it personally if I may seem absent this year. Don't be worried either. I am fine.
It's just that I decided -after a few crazy intense furry years filled with conventions and big meetings- it's time to take a step back and re-evaluate to where I stand in the fandom, from my own perspective. And how I want to continue (in it) from there.

It's the 31st of August 2010. Me and my friends arrive at Eurofurence 16 and my excitement couldn't be bigger.
The con itself is something to be excited about on it's own, but there is one thing that can raise the tension even further: receiving your first fursuit at said convention!
After I registrered it got only worse as honeyhusky was still standing in an ever lasting queue with her suit cases. Yes, I carried them upstairs to our room, but I had to hold back not to have a peek.
Finally the moment was due and she opens her suitcase with a big grin, followed by my eyes oogling over the content within it... and there he was... Freckles. My cute shy foxy.
I quickly start fitting all the parts and then I look into the mirror. Wow!
All he needed now was some proper clothing, which
yotienpluche most happily provided. There! Perfect!
Freckles opens the door and steps out of the hotel room as he plans to venture around and outside the hotel. Curious furries check him out and others give him a hug as they seen some pictures before EF.
On the dances his cute and shy personality disappears completely as he turns into an unstoppable dance machine. He just wouldn't stop dancing!
Day of the Bear: suiting in Ouwehand Dierenpark in Rhenen
September 12. Just a week after EF, Freckles travels to Rhenen to entertain the masses in an animal park.
It was his first Dutch public appearance after the convention and despite the bad weather, Freckles still had a blast walking about.
More Dutch furries who didn't attend EF got a chance to meet him.
Breda fursuit walk: 2 camera crews, 1 city
October 3rd. Freckles was invited by spark-wolf to join a day of shooting for a Dutch documentary about furries and he gladly accepted the invitation.
Together with many other suiters he had a lovely sunny day entertaining the masses throughout the city as both the Dutch TV crew and BBF followed the suiters everywhere they go.
More Dutch and German furries met Freckles, whiched turned out to be quite a positive experience!
Zoo Köln: getting "lost" in the dark surrounded by an endless mass of people
October 31st. It's Germany again for Freckles as he signed up for an event arranged by
codydawg to walk around in near complete darkness.
He lost the group of other suiters quite quickly and ventured on his own with a spotter.
Because there were so many people he wasn't bored for a second as many kids wanted his attention constantly. He never received so many hugs and cuddles as that day!
Freckles also appeared at various homes across the country meeting new people both furry and non furry ever since he came back from EF right up to now.
So what is next in store for him? The list is quite long already and more is bound to be added as time goes by, but you will at least see him at the following upcoming events:

It's the 31st of August 2010. Me and my friends arrive at Eurofurence 16 and my excitement couldn't be bigger.
The con itself is something to be excited about on it's own, but there is one thing that can raise the tension even further: receiving your first fursuit at said convention!
After I registrered it got only worse as

I bought a fursuit! And commissioned another!

That's right. I helped honeyhusky out here and bought her foxy partial suit.
She is redoing the feet and paws as we speak so it fits me and then she will take it with her to Eurofurence 16 for me.
Then, thanks to
sierussicling I found out that there ARE people out there that can actually make decent equine heads.
Contact was established since the person in question is open for commissions and now this ball started rolling as well!
Having a fox suit is nice (to start with), but I am an equine in heart and soul of course.
It's nothing but pure logic this second step had to follow soon after, even though it followed a lot sooner then expected heheh.
If it all works out, I won't see the pony suit until Summer 2011 anyway.
