Anti-Bullying Campaign
Posted 14 years agoA teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not to rip it.
Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it.
That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying.

Call to Action: MLP:FiM as Sonic
Posted 14 years agoNot quite sure how to start. I can't say "I'm not really sure how it happened," since I actually followed my own train of thought.
I was watching the "Unskippable" episode on "Sonic and the Black Knight" http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vid.....e-Black-Knight , and they mentioned the two simultaneous cartoon series. It occurred to me that Princess Sally Acorn, at least in the SatAM version I actually watched, was a rather strong female character. I wondered how she measured up against Bunnie Rabbot from the same ser
OMG U GAIZ THS HAS 2 HAPEN!
And that was a few hours ago. Now, I didn't come up with all of this at once, and obviously it's not even complete. But I'm sure someone will figure out the last couple bits, and I am hopeful one or two people will find the idea compelling enough to draw. (Color swap, style swap, parallel universes, embedding, crossover... I won't hamstring you.)
Applejack/Bunnie
The hook that I described above. A little superficial, just a southern-comfort accent, but all analogies run that risk.
Twilight/Sally
The parallel can't be strong if the emotional center of FiM can't be found in the Sonicverse. Oh, wait.
Rainbow Dash/Sonic
Same principle. Am shocked this wasn't in the top 2.
Rarity/Antoine*
Eh, maybe, maybe not. Honestly, I've only seen about 3.2 episodes of MLP, plus various clips, AMVs, and YTPs. I think their attitudes fail to be pragmatic in similar ways, but Antoine was inept in a way that's almost contrary to the ponyverse. Maybe a CMC.
Spike/Tails
Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnddddd... the wards.
That's what I have. I was thinking maybe Fluttershy/Cream, but I only know about the rabbit from porns, meaning there could be a total personality mismatch.
So, Fluttershy and Pinkie are unmatched on the Equestria side, and Rotor and... Nicole, I guess, are left on the Mobius side. *does a quick lookup for an hour* I guess the best one-to-one function remaps Rarity to Rotor, then adds Fluttershy/NICOLE, leaving Pinkie/Antoine. Yeah, that's pretty close.

Birthday ambigrams
Posted 14 years agoWell, my timing stinks, but yesterday, August 22, was my 25th birthday. I do have a birthday wish/request, though I feel a little crass saying it, but I think I should put it out there.
I want work.
More specifically, I'm opening$10 $15 commissions for ambigrams. So if you want one, let me know, and if you know someone else who'd want one, let them know too. I'll get to details in a minute.
Some of you might wonder what an ambigram is. The most common form of ambigram is a word or phrase written to look the same upside-down, such as this one of my handle: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3967222/ But the broadest definition, and I think the best one, is "any text written to have more symmetry than usual." This could be something that looks like something else upside-down, such as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6166844 , but it also applies to reflection, 90-degree rotation, switching between foreground and background, and even sliding half the strokes over an inch to make the other half.
Now, how might you get one of these? Well, I am charging$10 $15 USD over PayPal for commission slots. Send me a note (or post a comment if you prefer) with the text you want ambigrammed, and I'll let you know if I can do it. Then we'll negotiate which of us will post the result, I'll note you my PayPal address, and the exchange will happen when I finish, probably in three days or less.
It's kind of optimistic to think I might fill 10 commission slots, but I'd best be prepared. And once I've built up some credibility, I'll add my PayPal address to my user-page and signature. So let's see if you all are interested!

The secret of the uni-- what the hell?
Posted 14 years agoHa ha-- whoops. I clicked a link in a journal-- yesterday, I'm guessing-- saying somebody needed to be banned. And just minutes ago I noticed a similar journal on my profile.
Okay, I'm guessing that the comment on that other journal saying it was a virus was right. So if you see a journal titled The secret of the universe is so simple or consisting entirely of a link saying "this guy should be banned" or such, send the "poster" a note. (Not like they get alerted when somebody posts a journal on their own profile.)

The Schofield Composite
Posted 14 years agoI have a pet project I've tried a couple times to get done. You'll need a little background.
I watch (or maybe now it's "used to watch") a show called "Chuck." It's basically a spy show with the premise that a typical nerd (the titular Chuck Bartowski) got involved, but my project focuses on a near-side-plot in one of the Halloween episodes.
In Chuck vs. the Aisle of Terror, Dr. Stanley Wheelwright (guest star Robert Englund) has developed a sprayable fear-inducing hallucinogen and is trying to sell it, but Team Bartowski captures him. The titular Aisle of Terror only comes into play after Dr. Wheelwright escapes into the Buy More and has to be subdued.
Now, that's just enough of the plot to ignore while I explain what the Aisle actually is. In preparing for Halloween, Buy More employees Jeff and Lester have set up a tent with some TV screens, and the content of these screens is based on a study by a Professor Schofield to see what images would scare the most deranged individuals. Apparently, it works on only the most deranged individuals, and fortunately, Wheelwright is one of these.
But I felt sort of attacked by the list. Not scared, but slighted. (Also irritated that no large-scale fears got hallucinated, but not the point.) One of the images Prof. Schofield's study turned up was "interspecies relations."
I don't think the show has ever mentioned furries. The associated picture was a closeup of a chimpanzee cheek-to-cheek with a kitten.
But still! I think people are liable to get the wrong impression from that. (And yet, even if I'm overreacting here, it still makes for a good project.) So I have proposed an image that gets as many of these subjects together as possible, for the purpose of seeing just who reacts and how.
The seven images given in the show are as follows:
1. Public showers!
2. A baby in snail costume! (Is it a baby, or a snail? I don't know.)
3. Old people!
4. Interspecies relations!
5. Black licorice!
6. Man-feet!
7. OTTERS!
I can arrange about 4 1/2 of these comfortably, maybe 6 1/2, but I can't draw worth a crap and a half. If you need my arrangement, let me know.

Oh, what a pre-dawn.
Posted 14 years agoOh man. I just watched
danath's "1K Story Challenge" and I should have prepared more.
The concept is to put the old saw "a picture is worth a thousand words" into practice. As people watch video of a text document (appropriately zoomed in), the host randomly picks viewers one at a time, who then pick a picture to inspire the host to write a thousand words. (A minimum, I'm guessing, but a signal to move to the next viewer soon.)
I was the last selection (5th of 7 alphabetically), and I vacillated so much that he dove into my Favorites pages and chose this one. I take some comfort in how he wimped out and chose that one (also randomly, though).
The kicker might be that he just +watched me during his stream. So he's going to read this journal, but I don't know whether that's a big deal. I DON'T KNOW! And I'm almost certainly looking for too much meaning in it, but knowing that won't help me stop fretting.
But the main event, the appearance of words on a page, was quite fun. (Either mostly or entirely smut; I arrived late. Wait, is it smut if there's nudity but nothing happens?)
And Danath? When you said "no promises"? I understand completely-- though again, probably more than you mean it. But if you're okay with it, I'd like to help edit the story, maybe add a couple bits. And thanks for the watch!

How I feel about fetishes that are not my own
Posted 15 years agoOn the one hand, there are certain acts that should not be performed IRL.
On the other hand, every time you decry somebody else's fantasy as morally inferior to one of your own, Jesus rapes a catboy. So by all means, continue.

Smut is DIFFICULT
Posted 15 years agoPun averted.
To start, I should say that I'm not worried about the genre and themes. Heck, I joined FA because I finally decided that looking at porn was okay.
No, apparently I have trouble producing anything. I "can't draw,"* so I keep thinking writing's easier, but I have trouble putting full effort into a story over more than one session. So occasionally I try something really short, but I invest too much into it and... I guess I become afraid to finish.
This is ridiculous. Why can't I put down anything bigger than a status update?**
*I can totally hold and use a pencil, and I'm also comfortable with Paint and Flash, but only as tools. I lack not just the expertise to get my lines perfect the first time, but also the patience to save cleanup for a second pass. Expertise is rare and not entirely necessary, but patience is critical.
**Not on Facebook myself. But there was one time when my brother was logged in on the house computer while he was out on some trip (I think?). I changed his status to "is suckling winky." He eventually changed it back, and I don't think he knows who did that.

ship-wreck 's journal here - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1721391/ saying that you support the idea, and make a journal like this one spreading the word! (Make sure to also link your journal to her! And don't forget your character reference!) You do that, and Shippy will make you a free little icon!
First of all, absolutely.
Second, I'm looking at the species list and there are bits that don't make sense. Like, why is "Marsupials" separated from "Mammals" when canines and felines aren't?
Third, and somewhat more speculatively, I think there are some further categories of animal that can reasonably be sifted out, even if a couple still need to be added. Cows could be grouped under "Ungulates" along with "Cervines," "Giraffe," "Horse," and "Zebra," and there are enough rodents that "Rodents" could be another new category. (Actual new categories, meaning not in the species list yet, would include "Fish," "Invertebrates," and "Plants.")

Random Request series coming to a close
Posted 15 years agoYes,
cobaltk is about to wrap up his series. Nine pictures, eight rounds of TF, and this final picture will make it an even 10. He'll be picking five names this time, so you have five times the chances to get your suggestion in.
Deadline is Wednesday the 14th. Submission and suggestion thread are here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4141183/

Call to Action: Random Request Series
Posted 15 years agoListen up, people!
cobaltk is doing a sketch series called Random Request! The current sketch is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4081271
The rules are simple. The subject here, at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3984049 , is transformed in some way as described by the audience. Every three days or so, her current iteration is posted, and then you can leave a comment describing what you want the next (cumulative) change to be (no immediate take-backs). Two days later, the artist picks one of the comments and performs the suggested changes (within reason) on our wonderful subject.
(By the artist's prerogative, sometimes two changes take place. Also, you may suggest "X AND Y" or "X OR Y," but please remember you have a single vote. The only thing that makes your suggestion more likely is someone else giving the same suggestion: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3994315/ )
As she stands now, our subject is a four-foot-tall, six-armed muscular minktaur with long hair, six large breasts, and a couple of buns in the oven. (SO much fun to write that out.) The current round of voting ends tonight at 9pm EDT, so I want all... um, all two of you... to, um, pitch in suggestions.
Great, now I feel silly.

"How It's Made: CO2 Cartridges"
Posted 15 years agoSorry for the absence of updates. I have a few pieces of writing, all in some sort of mid-completion place.
And this isn't furry, but I wanted to share it because it's weird. "How It's Made" is on right now, and the first thing they showed was CO2 cartridges. They start by cutting out discs of metal which they form into cups.
Now they punch longer and longer-- what were they called, pistons? I should've taken notes-- into the cups, which themselves get progressively longer. And I guess since this is metal against metal, these pistons and cups are continuously lubricated with an oily white substance, dripping everywhere on the equipment, the cups, and the thrusting pistons.
Yeah.
When the cups reach full cartridge length, they get rinsed off and it gets boring.

Posted 15 years agoSo hi. I just joined yesterday (after deciding to join two weeks ago), as soon as I saw registration had come back up. I then proceeded to waste time by +watching the artists I had been watching from afar, and I ended up being late for dinner.
I plan to do more than squat here, honestly. Stories, a couple pictures, probably dabble in bad smut. (Discussion question: Can a dirty story be any good if the author's a virgin?)
