Been Away Due to Long Illness
General | Posted 11 years agoNot really an excuse for lack of contact, but I've spent the last year too sick to do much, and it's affected every aspect of my life. I'm pretty mad at myself for letting it get this far.
I know I owe a couple folks and want to get them refunds asap. If I owe you, please let me know!

Status update
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, I've only just got back to the point where I've got power, since hurricane Irene came through and fucked my whole town. I wasn't able to work on commissions for a while, but I'm back and getting them done now. :) People who are owed stuff should see it in the next couple of days!
Hello
General | Posted 14 years agoFirst off, I know I owe some of you stuff.
So circumstances beyond my control in the last year or so have made it impossible for me to participate in anything online. I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to any of you regarding commissions and things. I'm not going to go into reasons why I disappeared, because the truth is, they're too painful. I know that's not really an excuse, but there it is.
I'd like to settle up now. I owe a lot of people art, and I'd like to make sure those people get refunded what they paid me last year.
Please, if I owe you a commission, comment on this journal with what I owe you and your Paypal address, and I'll refund you.
I'd like to come back and start fresh, not owing anyone anything.
Thanks, and I hope you guys understand.

Terms of Service
General | Posted 15 years agoDecided I should make up a TOS just to cover m' butt in case of confusion :)
Terms of Service:
1). Payment: On anything more than $10, I will do a rough sketch to be approved by the commissioner before payment is due. I'll grant some leeway with smaller things like headshots and icons, but in general, I can't do more than a sketch without full payment.
2). Refunds: If for whatever reason I have to cancel your commission, I will refund you in full. If you cancel the commission that I have begun to work on, I will keep the amount equal to the amount of work I've done. (Example: if I've done a sketch and you've approved it, I will keep $15 and refund you the rest.)
3). I will not draw: armor/mecha, watersports, scat, babyfur, cub, rape. Feel free to ask, I will let you know it's okay. If I'm not comfortable drawing what you've described, I will tell you upfront. I actually can do general adult art (I know my gallery doesn't really reflect this yet), but there are things I won't do. If you aren't sure, always feel free to ask! :)
4). Turnaround: I'll be the first to admit that I can be slow at times. I can, however, do rush orders for a small fee if you don't want to wait. My goal is to get to where small commissions only take a couple of days, and larger ones only a couple of weeks, depending on my workload. If I feel I can't complete your commission in a timely manner, I may decide to cancel the commission and refund you.
Anything unclear? Always feel free to send me a note with any questions or concerns. Thank you :)

General | Posted 16 years agoMy little sister had a field trip today. After, they went to a Mexican restaurant to eat, and she doesn't like most of the food there. So she didn't eat it all.
A staff member all but forced my sister to eat the food there, when she had already told him she didn't want it. He picked up her knife and held in front of her face. This is just baffling to me. She paid for a meal before going on the trip and it's her fucking right not to eat it if she doesn't want it. I left a comment on their site telling their staff to keep their dirty hands off peoples' plates. Just... ugh!

General | Posted 16 years agoFinally having inspiration to draw means cutting back on that commissions queue. I have a few little things that I'm determined to do in between my full color work. I'm just trying to finish everything up and not owe people stuff.
Just to recap, I owe:
4 full colors
2 sketches
2 icons
Also one clean sketch request from an embarrassingly long time ago.
Maybe I should post WIPs somewhere so commissioners know I'm working on their stuff XP
At any rate, I might change my prices and stuff a bit - probably nothing drastic, but I want to at least consider different ways to make it worthwhile. Probably only the full color w/ BG will increase in price, though. We'll see.
And I just have to say... coming to this site has been such a positive experience for me. Meeting so many cool people, chatting and working with them, it's all been great. All the nice comments and support was a pleasant surprise, and anyone who's taken the time to watch my work... I just appreciate it so much. Thank you :DDD

Wolf's Rain
General | Posted 16 years agoDamn, I love this show. I first saw it when it was on Cartoon Network at like, 12:30 a.m. but only caught a few episodes in screwy order back then. In 2007 I watched the whole thing on Youtube (or some site, it may not have been youtube). I adore it, it's my favorite anime show ever <33
I just got the whole series off Amazon. I'm not even a huge anime fan, but I saw it on there and was like, "WANT."
*Click* OhshitdidIjustbuythat? lol
I especially love the opening and closing songs. "Gravity" is really lovely.
I should watch more anime. I've heard good things about Death Note... Yes/no?

Update on tablet situation
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, well, I got it installed on my sister's ancient computer and it works perfectly. The good news is I can do art in her room, and transfer it via CD to this one. It's a little inconvenient, but oh well. Thanks for all of the suggestions, I tried them all and nothing works. I don't get it. Brand new computer and a brand new tablet, but something is making it mess up.
I'll keep trying on this computer, but it's not urgent anymore since I can work on the other one. Except it's cold in there XD I need a fucking Snuggie, lmao.

General | Posted 16 years agoI got a new tablet for Christmas - a Wacom Bamboo. We also got a new computer with Windows 7 on it. I installed the driver and Photoshop Elements without a hitch... then when I go to use the thing, it's all screwy in Photoshop. Like, it'll draw a line okay, then it'll randomly stop working, or it'll just draw a straight line or dots... I don't get it.
Now, it seems to work in other applications, such as paint, Sketcher, etc... just not Photoshop. I'm wondering if there are any other programs that are similar to Photoshop that I can try to work in? I really want to get stuff done, but I can't with this tablet. I've tried reinstalling the driver with new ones from Wacom, I reinstalled Photoshop. I did everything I can think of.
At this point, I'm willing to give a free request to whoever has the solution to my problem. I'm really annoyed by this. I might try our other computer tomorrow, see if I can do some art with that. I'm not sure if it'll install my programs, though.
So, yeah, I know I owe people stuff. I'm sorry. Things have just sucked for me lately, and this tablet problem is just icing on the cake.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

New tablet!
General | Posted 16 years agoI got a brand new Wacom tablet for Christmas, and a new computer to use it on! We still haven't gotten the new PC set up yet, so I can't finish any art until then. But the new tablet does have me feeling inspired, so just bear with me.
My brother is home with his family. My niece Dylann is 5 now, and she is adorable. I haven't seen her since summer '08, so she has grown a lot since then.
They brought their boxer, Gunner, who is awesome, but not neutered, so he has some marking behavior that we aren't too fond of. My brother (and my father, actually) don't neuter male animals because they stupidly think it reflects on their own masculinity. God, the animals just don't care that much, you know? If anything, it prevents some health issues and decreases stress. I'm saving up my commission money to neuter Bug right now, though he hasn't shown any marking behavior yet, thank goodness.
We went and saw Holmes on Christmas. Really good movie :) When we came home, there was this ancient black poodle mix in our yard. She was shivering, and had burrs on her feet, and couldn't walk too well. We brought her in for the night and called animal control yesterday morning. Just before he was going to come over and pick her up, the owner contacted him to ask if anyone had found her. So, yeah, it had a happy ending because the owner just lived up the road a ways. She came and picked her up, turned out she was 11 years old and her name is Midnight. Lol, I was so glad she wasn't dumped :D
So, that's what my holiday has been like. Fun, eh?

Sad week
General | Posted 16 years agoI've had a rotten art block for the last couple of weeks. Today's the first day in a week I've been able to draw anything -- but I feel confident now that stuff will be finished fairly soon. I watched a couple animated movies this week to get inspired: The Secret of NIMH (which I'd never seen before) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (which I'd only seen once before a long time ago). It worked, I don't feel like I'm forcing myself to draw anymore. I've got some ideas and things that I will be able to work into my commissions, which makes me happy!
Some sad news, though -- The friend I mentioned a few journals ago, the one with lung cancer... he died last Thursday. While I was somewhat relieved that he wasn't suffering anymore, I do feel so SO sad for his wife and daughters. I'm not a very religious person, but I do pray for the sake of other people, and I've been praying for them lately.
Odds and Ends -- 1. Survivor fucking rocked last night!
2. FML I have to go hunting with my dad tomorrow (well, I don't have to, but it would break his heart if I didn't).
3. I just read the Shining. I am now afraid of hedges, especially animal-shaped ones!

House!
General | Posted 16 years agoSo good last night. The 80s dance <33
Also, something cool - at my house my Mom has total control over when people go online. We have a DSL that she unhooks and locks up (! I know, she's crazy) during the day and even at night there's usually a chore that needs to be done before she'll let us online. It sucks.
But I found the key to the closet she keeps the DSL in and duplicated it. As long as she's locking it up in there, I'll be able to go online during the day when she's not home. I just can't go on Facebook or anything or she'll know I've been on during the day XP
I feel delightfully sneaky.
Edit: Also, thanks SOO much to anyone who expressed good thoughts for me while I'm sick and dealing with personal problems. It means a lot to me, and made me feel better :)

H1N1 D:
General | Posted 16 years agoYeah, I has it.
I'll get some art done this week, though, no matter what.
Also, a close friend of my family, Mark, has been battling lung cancer for several months, but he's losing. It's absolutely horrible, he's so weak, and is looking at only a few days or weeks to live. He's always out of it, they've got him drugged up with so much morphine.
The other day, I was riding with my dad. One of Mark's other friends (Briggs, who has known him all his life) was coming from the direction of Mark's house. He'd just been to see him, and was practically in tears when he stopped his truck next to our van.
My dad: "You just been to see him?"
Briggs: *nods*
My dad didn't say anything for a minute, then just said, "'S bad."
Briggs looked like he might break down right there, but he just managed to say "Yeah." Then they just kind of nodded at each other and continued driving. It was heartbreaking.
The night before that, my mom and I had gone to loan them our van to bring Mark home from hospice. His wife was in such a state. She hardly knew what she was doing, she's lost weight, and you can tell she's just at her wit's end. Every time my mom asked her anything pertaining to her plans for the next day, she just repeated, "I don't know, I just... I don't know!" Over and over.
My dad can't find the nerve to go and visit him, not when he's like this. I thought my mom would be snide and bitch about him being too scared (they're having problems, but that's a whole different story), but she said she totally understood. A few weeks ago, Dad and Mark took a long ride and just talked for a while, until the van ran out of gas. It was before Mark was too bad off to ride comfortably in a vehicle. Mom said it was better for him to remember Mark like that, not like he is now: too weak to move or talk, or even eat. He should just be with his wife and his daughters, so they can enjoy whatever time he has left.
Oh God, I'm tearing up just writing this. If there was ever a guy who didn't deserve this, it was Mark. I don't know anyone who could say anything bad about him. I'm not just saying that, either. He's a good guy.

General | Posted 16 years agoYeah, this has been a remarkably cruddy few days. I've got the flu (not sure which variety :/), and it's NOT fun.
Luckily, I feel better tonight. Hopefully that means I'll feel well enough to do some art tomorrow. I've been working bit-by-bit on one of my full colors, and there are a couple of sketches to get out of the way.
And I've got my Nanowrimo, which is going all right. I'm slightly behind the required daily pace, but oh well.
Anyone found or done any nice art lately that they'd like to share? It might cheer me up :)
I saw Where the Wild Things Are on Halloween. It was the weirdest shit I've seen in a while, but I ended up loving it (whereas the rest of my family downright loathed it XP). Thoughts?

General | Posted 16 years agoAhh, commissions
General | Posted 16 years agoHouse isn't on tonight D:
Working hard on commissions. I seem to keep jumping from one project to another, which is a stupid thing to do. Makes everything take longer. But at least you know I am working on things. I get really self conscious sometimes that a commissioner is going to get angry because I take too long. Or that if I upload other stuff, they'll think I'm blowing off their commission.
My goal is to have most, if not all of my full color commissions finished by the end of November. I'm going to give myself a one week deadline for each piece. I'll make up a schedule or something.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN GUYS <333
