Transportation
Arrival: 6:21 AM Friday morning
Departure: 3:35 PM Sunday afternoon
Yes, I'm going to be there only two days. Which is probably going to feel more like one day, since probably I'm going to collapse after arrival and sleep most of Friday since I'm arriving on a redeye. BUT ANYWAY
Lodging
I'll be hanging out in the main hotel with
izixs. And maybe someone else too. Actually we're still looking for someone else to fill the room SO if you are interested let me know.
Art
I will occasionally scribble crappy self-portraits if I am bored enough BUT I do have cash and I heard that there are people who will draw in exchange for money, so there's that.
Fursuit
WELL sad to say but given the short trip probably I will elect not to bring Cami this time around, given the added hassle and risk of damage on flight connections, etc.
Activities
I already mentioned sleeping. Other than that... well, there will certainly be drinking! I don't really know the party scene at this con, so probably not much actual partying. In principle I might go to a panel or two.

Arrival - I'll be getting in sometime early-afternoon. For the first time ever I'm actually driving this year, up from Pasadena on Wednesday for a quick stop in Berkeley before coming down to San Jose on Thursday.
Hotel - I'm in the Marriott. If you know me, feel free to ask for my room number.
Roommates - Vulpecula and his friend, plus
net-cat and 
taikamiya . It will be a PARTY! Speaking of which:
BOOZE - While there won't be a formal room party per-se, the room will be stocked with a healthy (meaning of course unhealthy) amount of alcohol, so feel free to text me if you want to come by and hang out. Alternatively, I'll probably spend plenty of time hanging out in the Mariott hotel bar as well.
Fursuiting - Yep! I will be bouncing around as Cami, a grey terrier with a big white star on his eye (and another on the back). He will be celebrating his first birthday at the con and is very excited (as always)!
Schedule - I plan to go to bed around 2 AM and wake up around 11 AM most days. Afternoons are generally spent wandering, fursuiting, or perhaps at panels, evenings gaming or at lengthy dinner engagements, late evenings fursuit dancing, and then ideally partying into the night.
Art - Well, I actually brought some colored pencils, but having time is somewhat doubtful.
Etiquette - Hugs happily accepted and given when in con mode if I have at least some idea who you are. Other forms of physical contact are generally discouraged. If you actually know my real name, note that I do prefer to go exclusively by my fur name in the con setting, so please use that instead!
Conversation - Pros: I have an awesome job and love to talk about what I do, and am always curious what other people's interests (work/hobbies/etc.) are. I also like to talk about travel and interesting places, especially getting tips on where to go next if you've been somewhere interesting. Cons: I have zero knowledge of pop culture. If you are making a reference/joke based on a movie or especially a TV show I probably have no idea what you're talking about.
Relationship status - Single and not looking.
Departure - Sadly, the con has to end. :( I'll be heading out Monday around noon to drive back down to LA.

Sounds like plenty of the rest of you all are going too, so feel free to ping me anytime if you want to find out where I am! But I expect the breakdown to go something like this:

Posted 13 years agoI had been hoping to go to this con for several years, but it has always ended up conflicting with travel - usually hiking/backpacking or other summer outdoors plans. And so it seemed this year, scheduled right between a planned backpacking trip in Wyoming and a week I was going to spend visiting my family.
But! It turns out that Denver is halfway in between Wyoming and New Mexico. And I will be rolling through just as the con stars.
So I shall be there. 8)

In principle (I usually spend con downtime attempting to art with generally mixed results), but it's highly unlikely to be good.

Anthrocon + Eurofurence
Posted 14 years agoOK, looks like I'll be attending both of these conventions this summer! I managed to snag a "free" flight to Anthrocon on frequent-flyer miles (helpful since the airfare was going to be close to $600), and I'll actually be in Europe this August anyway for work. Hope to see some familiar faces there... and meet some new ones!

Posted 15 years agoHey, FC is starting tomorrow! I'm actually already at a convention, except that it's in Seattle, and involves astronomy research instead of furries. HOWEVER, tomorrow evening I shall be flying south to San Jose to start the fun : D
This year the roommates are Vulpecula (also at the astronomy conference here!) and izixs and net-cat. This will be my last FC as a "local" (even if I'm flying to it!) so I expect it'll be a good one!

flyingfire* and her mate, and will be around until Sunday morning when I leave (... I probably didn't need to leave early, but last time I was there my roommates checked out Sunday and left me with no room and a ticket home monday, sooooo I apparently decided to play it safe this time around :P )
Hope to see some familiar muzzles there!

Posted 15 years agoIn the next couple months I'm planning on re-working my personal website in advance of my upcoming job-application frenzy this fall. Because I am apparently slightly insane that way, I was hoping that this retooled website would include substantial character art. :D
Anyway, for this purpose, I would like to have some artist draw "me" in a bunch of different poses (probably 5-6) plus an appropriate background or two. This is not the sort of thing most artists advertise explicitly when they do commissions, but I'd be willing to pay pretty generously for it and I can't imagine it would be too much effort.
So... does anyone have any clue what is the best way to do this? Just e-mail/message/note a bunch of people and ask, or is there some better medium?

No Anthrocon for me this year
Posted 15 years agoYes, sadly, instead of being in Pittsburgh for the start of AC, right now I'm out on the balcony of my hotel along the Hilo seashore listening to the chorus of tropical birds, having just finished a successful observing run on Mauna Kea. I'll be back in California tomorrow, but it was too difficult to get to Pittsburgh in time - so unfortunately I'll miss out on the furry excitement this year. But hey, there'll be other cons. Hope the folks there have fun!

- Arriving late late Thursday night. Leaving relatively late on Monday evening.
- Likely hangouts: Dealer's hall to spend cashmoney on artings, Brawl tournament if it happens, main stage events to mock their inevitable awfulness over DS Pictochat. And generally in places that serve food and alcohol. :D Will also be wandering around Pittsburgh on Monday before heading to the airport.

Posted 17 years agoSo, thanks to being able to schedule a work-related trip to Chicago right around the appropriate time of year, it looks like I'll be going to Midwest FurFest!
However, I unfortunately have no hotel room. So, uh... does anyone out there have, or know anyone with, floor space? I would pay full share of course, and I am relatively shy and unobtrusive so no worries. : ) The main hotel (Westin) would be ideal to avoid having to deal with shuttles, but beggars can't be choosers sometimes.
