Warning my fellow EU citizens: Chat Control strikes back!

First proposed in 2022 under the (usual and fake) premise of protecting minors from online criminals, Chat Control is a EU Council proposal that imposes de facto mass surveillance on all EU citizens' private communications - texts, emails and chats; no judge's permit needed!
So what's new this time around? Here's the recent updates:
• October 30 - following public protests and mixed responses from the rest of Council (again), the representatives of Denmark (which first proposed Chat Control and is running the current EU Council Presidency) withdraw the original proposal and begin to work on a revised, softened proposal. A small win for us, except...
• November 11 - Using what digital rights expert and former Member of the European Parliament Dr. Patrick Breyer defined as a “deceptive sleight of hand”, a mandatory and expanded Chat Control is pushed through the back door! The "new and revised" proposal even more intrusive than the originally rejected plan; the same expert comments: “The EU is playing us for fools"
• November 12 - Behind closed doors, the revised Danish Chat Control proposal sees broad support. Due to Article 4 and 6 in the proposal, scanning of all messages, including end-to-end-encrypted content, is reintroduced while anonymous communication is outlawed and age verification becomes universal. The legislation now moves to the Coreper for approval before being formally adopted as the Council position.
Sounds like awful news to me; if you think the same and believe in privacy rights, here's what you can do about it:
1) Check out https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ for further information
2) Share the message with the fellow EU citizens you know! The media aren't talking about the issue enough, if at all!
3) https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ also has all contact links of your EU representatives: call and/or email them, make your voice heard!
4) Search online for petitions stop Chat Control in your country, sign and share them too!

Overdue Ouroboros Updates!
General | Posted a month agoOngoing job: I currently have a full time internship contract as a Lab Worker, hence why I never stopped to write a proper journal so far lol. It will keep me busy like this until Christmas basically, so my activity here may remain low until then. My first month of work had a few rough moments but I feel like I have fully adjusted to the new job life now (or at least I'm not making as many mistakes XD)... there's some things I still wish to improve upon but at least these days I can appreciate the job even more since I can keep up with the lab's timetable, eheh.
Art projects: I'm still tinkering with new stuff in the background! Progress may be slow or paused, but I have ideas, mwehehe... if anything I have a little backlog of unposted art to share, expect to see more after this week's last Spooktober post!
(I still have a bunch of unsold adopts too if you're into those, internships don't pay much so I won't say no to offers eheh)
Quick follow-up on Chat Control (regarding my fellow EU citizens): a small victory! Apparently the EU members didn't manage to reach an agreement on the issue so this month's ballot has been postponed to December. We still have to keep an eye on it though: if you're finding out about Chat Control only now or you're wondering what you can do about it, I suggest checking out my previous journal for a recap!

To my fellow EU citizens: Beware of CHAT CONTROL!
General | Posted 3 months agoNot my usual journal I know and sorry if I get political for once but as they say, "If you don't deal with politics, you'll be dealt with by politics".
Despite already trying to push this new law in 2022 and getting no traction, the new and current EU Council Presidency has decided to push Chat Control up on top of the legislative priority list. And yes, it's as bad as it sounds: in order to "protect the children", they just want full access to your emails and chats.
Every photo, every message, every file you send (even via encrypted communications) will be automatically scanned, without your consent and with no suspicion required.
With one notable exception though: EU politicians exempt themselves from this surveillance under "professional secrecy" rules.
They get privacy. You and your family do not.
This is super bad because:
• Undermines your fundamental rights to privacy and data protection, as guaranteed by Articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter—rights considered core to European democratic values.
• Weakening or breaking end-to-end encryption exposes everyone's communications—including sensitive financial, medical, and private data—to hackers, criminals, and hostile actors.
• Automated scanners routinely misidentify innocent content, such as vacation photos or private jokes, as illegal, putting ordinary people at risk of false accusations and damaging investigations.
• Child protection experts and organisations, including the UN, warn that mass surveillance fails to prevent abuse and actually makes children less safe—by weakening security for everyone and diverting resources from proven protective measures
• Creates a dangerous global precedent enabling authoritarian governments, citing EU policy, to roll out intrusive surveillance at home, undermining privacy and free expression worldwide.
15 out of 27 State Members currently stand IN FAVOUR to the introduction of Chat Control, while only 3 have openly stated they are opposing!
I believe this to be unacceptable, and a call for action.
Firstly, I suggest going to https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ and getting further reading on the matter.
Secondly, I recommend spreading awareness of the issue, especially since the main media outlets (at least here in Italy) are suspiciously quiet about this fact.
And finally, you can make yourself heard by calling or emailing your EU representatives; https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ has a helpful tool that allows you to search them by country and get their contacts (and even provides with an email template to send).
Consider that most of them are probably on vacation during this time of the year, so I suggest to wait until the 25th of August beforeharassing voicing your concerns en masse...

Today I'm broadcasting to all my fandom channels (well most of them since the SoFurry website is still down atm) to tell you that I finished and passed my masterclass course, so I should hopefully get good job opportunities in the Testing Labs sector! In fact I will probably begin a 4-months internship on late August since it's sponsored by the same masterclass providers!
And on a side note, some of you already know that recently my PC suffered a brutal BSOD due to a boot drive failure, which caused all files and Windows itself to become corrupt... well I can now reassure you that I have installed a new and better SSD so my PC is running again! Just took a few days to reinstall Windows and the my software '^w^
In the meantime, my commissions will remain closed because I'm looking forward to finish a bunch of personal art projects and enjoy the summer a little bit before having to start my internship, sorry!

One more story to tell
General | Posted 6 months agoI am sitting on a sofa... not any sofa, but the sofa at my grandparent's home. It brings back memories, like pretty much anything surrounding me... I believe I could probably reconstruct the whole apartment, with all its furniture and details inside my mind just out of memory. It is a very nice apartment, and in Venice no less, so visiting my grandparents as a little grandchild was always a great opportunity... we were a lucky family in that regard.
The door opens, and from there comes my grandpa, greeting me with a big smile: this time I surprised him by making myself found already at home, while he was still outside for groceries~
He slowly comes to join me on the sofa, making himself comfortable at his elderly pace. There's a moment of silence, then he begins:
"Have I already told you of that time..."
Grandpa always had good stories to tell, and he was a good teller as well. By hearing his voice and words you could tell he was a man of culture, despite never going through the formality of a degree; he was an avid reader with a passion for literature, poetry in particular... when he wasn't telling me a story, he would often recite his favourites pieces of poetry, which he had perfectly memorized, or even read me some of his own from his notes instead. And top of that, he had travelled the world far and wide, having been a seaman at a young age and later dedicating the rest of his career on the sea as a Coast Guard member.
There are hardly any 'new' stories for him to tell me now that I am a grown-up, but it is always a pleasure to listen.
It is then, as I keep I listening, that a realization occurs.
This... shouldn't be possible... I can't be really there... HE can't be really there...
Silently, I begin to weep. With teary eyes I look at him but I don't dare saying anything as to not ruin the moment.
"B-but grandpa... you passed away two months ago" is what I'm thinking...
Even without me saying anything, he seems to understand, because he then puts a hand over mine, reassuringly... and I can feel his touch while he keeps going on with his story.
And so I keep listening to the rest of the story, despite all my weeping and sobbing...
...and when I wake up, I am still weeping and sobbing.

General | Posted 6 months agoStarting tomorrow, on May 19th, I'll begin a new phase of my life since it will be the beginning of my "Testing Laboratory Master"!
It's a masterclass course sponsored by the Italian national accreditation agency, and will consist in a short but intensive 2 month-period of lessons, followed by 4 months of internship inside an accredited laboratory. I'm looking forward to quickstart my lab career this way, since I haven't had much luck with just my Chemistry degree '^w^
As you can imagine, this endeavour will take much of my time and focus away, so I'm also officially closing my commissions (not that I got much more attention on that front either lately, lol).

Houston to Ouroboros, do you copy?
General | Posted 8 months agoHello! I realize it's been a long time now since posting anything meaningful here, so I feel it's about time I let you, my friends and watchers, know what's been going all this time:
Private life – I am still without a job, much to the dismay of people that keep telling me "How?! I thought job opportunities for Chemists just fell from the sky, isn't that what all industries seek?!" or "But I heard company X was hiring Chemists!" and such, which doesn't help. After graduating I spent most of 2024 literally throwing CVs across LinkedIn, Indeed and the likes with little luck. If you've also been seeking jobs you probably know the gist already: for every 100 applications, 80 are just ghosted and only 20 call you back, and of those calls only 3-4 actually invite you to a job interview... which is no guarantee you’ll be the one being chosen for the job. The lack of feedback makes it all the more frustrating because I keep wondering: is my CV written in an unappealing way? Am I lacking work experience? Am I out of touch with the real job opportunities? Am I using the wrong platform?
After chugging countless applications, I went into burnout and stopped altogether a couple months ago. I had lost all trust and will: “no one actually reads my CV, it’s just a stupid algorithm”, “Recruiters don’t understand my worth”, “Most job offers are fake anyway”… I only tried getting a State-funded job position on February because at least there was none of that bullshit guess-work, you simply enlist for a written and then oral test, so either you pass or fail. I failed.
The option I’m now considering now is paying tuition for a particular post-graduate Masterclass I recently discovered, which looks promising and aims at filling the gap between graduates and the job market. Most notably it guarantees employment as an intern in one of their many partner companies. On one hand it sounds like paying to get hired; but on the other it would likely pay off in the long run because it would give me job experience and bonus certifications.
Sad news – Amidst all of that, while I’m still trying to figure out my own life, yesterday I’m hit by devastating news: my grandpa passed away… Me and my family kinda saw it coming since his health took a steeper decline lately, but it’s still sad that with him all of grandparents are now gone and I couldn’t make it to be there in his final moments. I’ll be driving home for the funerals next week.
Managing OCs and artworks – In these times I also couldn’t help but ponder just how many unfinished art ideas and OCs are still sitting in my computer, some of which I haven’t even shared yet… and probably for the better: I’m taking the decision of downsizing my stupidly high roster of characters (40+!). Although I still think they’re cool and original (or sexy~) design-wise, I find myself actually attached only to a smaller subset of the total, typically because I played them in some RPs or because the still fuel the story ideas bouncing around in my head and that I should totally write at some point… in some cases my preferences have just shifted so I am internally debating a re-design of some OCs instead of direct elimination… in fact I was recently delighted to get new inspiration and satisfy my creativity just by drawing some alt versions of my most beloved OCs~
With this said, you can expect new artwork being posted once I’ll be in a better mood; additionally I’ll be sorting out OCs to determine who to keep and who to purge in the coming days, so expect more adopt auctions in the future! Go look in my gallery of characters, maybe the one you like will be up for grabs soon… and while you’re at it check out all the unsold designs already in my Adoptables folder ;P

Am I a game tester?!

Some time ago (so last year, lol) Modiphius Entertainment announced their collaboration with Ubisoft to make a new tabletop role-playing game: the Heroes of Might & Magic TTRPG!
I won't deny I had mixed feelings about it at first, given how Ubisoft has managed the IP lately (looking at you HoMM VI and VII...), but as a fan of both the videogame franshise and tabletop RPGs as well, I was insterested enough to sign up for development notifications. Months later, the game entered the testing phase and subscribers were notified about the possibility to volunteer for game-testing!
While compiling the google form document, I was literally telling myself "at worst I'll be ignored, and if anything I get early access to the game's rulebook and see what they're up to"... I didn't expect I'd be contacted via email a few days later, but they did, and one NDA contract later they shared the first batch of content and I was in! :D
So yeah, I'm quite hyped for the game, plus I get to have some saying on whether they're doing any justice to my beloved Heroes of Might & Magic~! And it's also first time I get to check out Modiphius' 2d20 system!

Some time ago (so last year, lol) Modiphius Entertainment announced their collaboration with Ubisoft to make a new tabletop role-playing game: the Heroes of Might & Magic TTRPG!
I won't deny I had mixed feelings about it at first, given how Ubisoft has managed the IP lately (looking at you HoMM VI and VII...), but as a fan of both the videogame franshise and tabletop RPGs as well, I was insterested enough to sign up for development notifications. Months later, the game entered the testing phase and subscribers were notified about the possibility to volunteer for game-testing!

UPDATE: Adopt auctions & Commission discounts

Given the general state of things, I was thinking about making and auctioning a batch of new adopts in the very near future!
My idea would be "12 days of Adoptmas", so 12 designs I'd be releasing each day starting this Christmas! And perhaps this week I could tease them in the form of egg adopts to also give people the option to preorder them before they 'hatch' and get revealed! As a preorder bonus, customers would be able to suggest the species of the adopt to fit their preference, unless they are fine with getting a surprise of course ;)
On a similar note, I was also pondering lowering the base price of my commissions since I realise I'm neither famous nor cheap (considering the EUR/USD change)... I know I haven't marketed my services much either, so it could just be I haven't reached out much or found enough customer interest since my commission services are kinda limited too. But I just can't handle a very active social media profile to market myself while still actively looking for job openings, which have higher priority imho.

Spooky Journal and incoming Commission Opening!

For you art watchers however, you will likely be thrilled to know that I'll be posting a series of artworks in these final days of October, showcasing all new spooky OCs, starting today~!
Furthermore, given my tough luck finding a full-time job to finally sustain myself on my own, I decided I will be officially opening for another round of commissions next month! And this time it will actually be open to anyone, not just a test run for close and trusted friends, lol.
So stay tuned for when I'll make a formal opening this November! ^w^

Ouroboros log - September 2024

On the private life side of things, I still have to find my first job. Many promising job applications have been evaluated, and nearly just as many were declined so far. Or as it is often the case, I'm still waiting on receiving any news from HR, which itself means a "no" when it becomes clear they're just ghosting you...
However, they also say "when a door is closed, another one can open", and indeed I got a new call from a new, hiring company, and got a job interview scheduled for next week!
So, regarding art: I have 1 upcoming OC I'll be showing shortly, but besides that I'm not planning on opening for commissions or do new art until I assess the situation after the job interview's result. Aka: don't want to promise a bunch of arts in case I get hired and suffer a sudden schedule change '^w^
That's all for now; btw happy to see there was a slight influx of new watchers on my Fur Affinity lately! :D

"Just Ouroboros Things" lands on Discord too!
General | Posted a year agoFollowing recent news, I decided to go ahead and mirror my Telegram channel, creating Just Ouroboros Things for Discord!
In short, it will be the same as my Telegram channel, where I share my content, updates and even the extra journaling that I don't post on my galleries! In fact, it will be even more organized since Discord allows to have multiple channels and sections inside the same server!
I even set up a bot to hopefully avoid fake users and scammers from entering the server, so please note that after entering the server, you will be asked to verify yourself with a reaction under the server rules. Once verified, you'll get to see all the channels and become able to react or open threads under my posts!
For the time being, I'm not allowing users to have a chat channel. As I said, the server is currently meant to only be a mirror of my Telegram channel so you'll get the same limited interactive experience; this is because I don't want to become a moderator or be overwhelmed by chat (my social batteries aren't that good, sorry!).
But the nice thing about Discord is that I can always tweak and expand the server at a later time, even turning it into a community if it gets enough of a following! So we shall see what the future holds for Just Ouroboros Things...

Speaking of, this is a good time to remind everyone that I am active on other sites and socials too, and that links to them have always been visible on each profile page of mine for those who want to remain in touch with me, just in case one goes down again!

I'm liking the way the Telegram channel allows me to share content and do personal blogging with some (but limited) interaction with the followers. A Discord server could grant superior interactivity and even create a community around my content, but personally, those tend to drain my social batteries quicker and might even need active moderation at some point (something I'm not looking forward to).
However, there's always the option of setting restrictions on the Discord server too, so that people can only react to my posts and open threads under them, effectively turning it into a mirror for my Telegram channel.
Updates: my job hunting continues as expected, since anything work related gets stalled for vacation in Italy on August XD
However, as recruiters come back from vacation, I'm starting to get a few more calls, though I have yet to be invited to a definitive job interview and not just a screening call. Depending on how things go I might even open for more commissions next month!

Just Ouroboros Things

I have so far received not one, not two, but 3 different calls for a job interview! All in the span of the last couple weeks!
While a job interview is no promise of being hired per se, I'm starting to feel confident I might get a job by September. This is exciting news, but also comes with big changes, like the fact I might have to move to a new town and/or buy a car.
Which brings up the subject of commissions: while I could use some sweet commission money to partially cover those incoming expenses, I just didn't get enough time (or the mood) to do so lately while job hunting. Besides, I can't confidently rely on my current schedule if I'm about to get a full time job, so we'll see when it will be the right time to open for commissions. At some point, I will likely test the waters by first doing commissions for personal friends who have already showed an interest in my services, then officially switching my commission status to "open".
Meanwhile I did update my galleries and profile information, so you will already see either a full Commissions page, or links to my Terms of Service and Price Sheet, besides a "Commission Status" banner! So you can already get a taste of what services I'll be offering once I do open for commissions!
And that introduces the next topic: Just Ouroboros Things! It's the name of my new Telegram channel where I'll not only post quick updates on myself and my works, but also notify people about my commission status! So I can notify you even when I'm just on the phone. It's already operational and you can check it out here: https://t.me/+Ns0E1gbQOtg0NTJk

BIG News regarding COMMS incoming!

While I keep looking for job openings and hoping to start my career as a Chemist during the day, I haven't stopped dreaming about becoming an artist during the night ;P
Well, that dream is now closer than ever! It's decided: I'll be opening for commissions in the near future!
However, I gotta do things proper, so that first requires setting up my galleries with a nice commission page, with clear slots and ToS, all still in the making! I might even decide to set up a Telegram Channel and/or Discord Server as well, plus a Ko-Fi account at some point down the line. After all I'd also love to share more about my OCs and their universe as well, I'd love to have a dedicated community page for that too!
In the meantime, check out my recent artworks (LINK) to get an idea of what you could get from me in the near future, and stay tuned for an official commission opening journal!
