Ponderings - Compassionate Zoomorphs?
Posted 14 years ago In response to my recent LJ entry about the death of the last two barn-kittens,
shadwalk commented about how compassion for other species was a trade-mark of humanity, and he wondered if true zoomorphs would share that emotion. I replied that I felt that any zoomorphs that were bio-engineered by humans mostly likely would have, as it would be a trait that we would want, and need.
That got me thinking about that whole idea. If we were bio-engineering zoomorphs as helpers and companions, then we would definitely want that trait to be built into them. But what about if (Ha! Let's face it, when!) the Military gets involved? What then? Would they want to bio-engineer a species that would be empathetic and compassionate about potential enemy troops? There's a real problem in that situation: If they were engineered to have such traits, they may refuse to fight or kill. But if they don't have those traits, what would keep them from turning against their creators? Would we eventually wind up with a "Planet of the Apes" scenario where the human race is reduced to slave or pet status, if not completely erradicated?
Furries may romanticize the idea of zoomorphs, but like any other great advancement, the military would only see it as a potential weapon. This is not to say that we haven't also had some of our own great civilian advancements as a by-product of military R&D (Global Positioning Satellites being a great example!) but it just seems sad that so much of our technology is used to destroy insead of create.
Which leads me to another pondering... Do the Creators in society need the Destroyers in order to keep advancing? If it wasn't for the destruction of things, would the creation of new things eventually cease? Would stagnation become a real threat? It is said that Necessity is the Mother of Invention, but what happens when we run out of "things we need?" Many of things we "need" were (are) things that we didn't even know we "needed" until someone came up with it. Electricity is a prime example: It hasn't been around that long really, but the whole world comes to a screaming halt whenever the power goes out.

First Journal Entry - Unicorn Dreams
Posted 14 years agoThis is my very first journal entry here on Fur Affinity, despite having an account here for several years now. My primary journal is on LiveJournal, but I had something extra-special that I felt was important to post here as well, and could likely be understood and appreciated by others in the Furry world...
Last night, during the fitful moments that I was able to get some sleep (thanks to someone's snoring!) I had one of my very rare, and incredibly fantastic "Unicorn Dreams!" I am blessed (and sometimes cursed) by being one of those people who dream with full sensory perception. I dream in full colour, full sound; I can see, hear, feel, smell, and taste everything in my dreams. Rarely, I will even have a sixth-sense power in my dreams.
Last night was one of my ultra-rare Unicorn dreams; a dream where I am a true four-hooved Unicorn, doing whatever it is that Unicorns do. In this dream, I was running. Not running away from anything, nor to anything, but running for the sheer pleasure of it - as one will often see horses do out in their pastures!
When the dream started, I was human - just walking along over a grassy field. It may have been one of my own fields (I don't know for sure, as is the way with dreams) but it was a bright and sunny day, perhaps in the spring or late fall, as the grass was yellow rather than green. But the sky was a bright blue, and the warmth of the sunshine was wonderful. I remember walking, and then thinking "It is time to run!" - again, not in fear or need, but just for the pleasure of it! My stride increased, and then my mind shouted "NOW!!!"
And that is when the transformation came!!!
I felt a surge of power through my body (gads! I'm tingling all over even as I write this!) and I felt myself leaning forward, leaping into the new form! It was a smooth, graceful, yet powerful and sudden transformation. So fast that it occured during a running leap, yet so smooth that it was.... well.... Just what it should be - MAGICAL!!!
As I sprang forward, I felt my arms lengthen and shift into powerful hooved forelegs, my body and neck lengthened, and my vision changed. I felt my hooves - all four of them now, hitting the ground in the perfect rhythm of a full-out gallop! How can I even begin describe how this feels? A person riding a horse might have some idea as to the motion, but it is not the same thing as actually being the horse (or Unicorn in this case) and feeling that incredible power! To feel the ground pounding under your hooves, the wind rippling through your mane and tail! If only there were a way to truly share this sensation with you, my dear readers! This was incredible, but there was more!
Something that had never happened before, in all of my previous Unicorn Dreams...
This time, as I ran for the sheer pleasure of running...
I spread my wings, and I FLEW!!!!
(and that's when I woke up!)
