Whelp, accidentally showed my students my MLP fanart *and* a painting I did of the word "FUCK" today. Thank god it's a college class--we're all adults, we can handle a swear word. And my ponies are all work safe.

Today has been one of the worst weeks I can remember. Seriously, the last time I had a week more stressful than this there was a serial killer on the loose in my neighborhood.

Nobody's getting murdered this time around but I had a member of my graduate committee quit on me yesterday. This basically means I have had to do an insane amount of running around this week, ultimately so that I can graduate with my PhD on time. I still haven't solved the problem.

It's also related to my own problem of doing everything at the last minute. Maybe this will teach me my avoidance behaviors are not helping, and have never helped.

Someone should write a MLP fanfic that is actually a mock-up of Twilight Sparkle's letters to Princess Celestia, formatted as a dissertation prospectus. And by that, I mean grad school is making me so insane that parallel to my own prospectus, I am thinking of writing a fake one about unicorns.

The past 24 hours have been really stressful, but I also got a lot done. But not a lot of sleep.

Anyway...I tried the gouache I bought and it's kind of weird. I posted the Twilight painting I did with it--mixed results. I'm probably going to use it more like watercolor in the future and less like an opaque paint. I did paint a bunch of "color studies" where I just painted a lot of scrap paper and junk mail blue, and that was fun.

Today I had a Michael's coupon, so I bought:
-a new sketchbook
-a beginner set of gouache paints
-2 new brushes

I hope to do some watercolor or gouache MLP art soon.
