Furries at the Gay Bar - November 22, 7-10PM
Posted 11 years agoOn November 22 from 7-10PM, furry photographer Tommy Bruce (
atmus23) is hosting a furry reception here in State College for his photographic documentation of the fandom! The event is being held at Chumley's, a bar located at 108 West College Ave, State College, PA 16801 (directly between The Corner Room and Indigo). Suiting is absolutely encouraged!
Here is a link to the flier. Do note that because the venue is a bar, this is a 21+ event. Apologies for those not yet of age!
Hope to see everyone there!
WE ARE
P.S. If you can't make it on the 22nd, fear not! The photographs are already hanging in the bar, and will be staying up for the remainder of 2014. They are some truly great shots - you don't want to miss them!

This week's meet info!
Posted 11 years agoThis week, we're putting the emphasis on food! We're going to meet at Ni Hao (289 Northland Center, off north Atherton), an upscale buffet of amazing Chinese, hibachi grill, and even great sushi! The total cost would be around 13 or so dollars, if you get the buffet and a drink.
If you're a fur on a budget, we'll be continuing the meet at around 1:30 with either frisbee on west campus (west of IST building) or, if it's raining, in the HUB for boards/card games! If you have a game you'd like to play, bring it along! This post will be updated on the day of with finalized plans (games versus frisbee). Heck, if the weather works out, we might do both!
Hope to see you all there!

The return of the weekly meet!
Posted 11 years agoHello all!
PSU furs is getting back into the groove of weekly meetups! This week's meet will take place at Chronic Town (224 West College Ave, State College) at 6PM on Saturday, March 29. For anyone who has never been to Chronic Town, it's a hookah lounge, music store, and a cafe all rolled into one. And if smoking hookah isn't your thing, that's alright, their drink selection is fantastic (Italian/French sodas, espresso, hot chocolate, you get the idea).
For the new folks in the group: if you're worried that you don't know anyone yet, don't let that discourage you from coming! These types of meets are particularly good for meeting people and making new friends.
Finally, if anyone has the urge to wear a tail or something similar, by all means do so! I will warn that it's a particularly poor place to go in suit, however. Very low lighting, and there's lots of stuff that can be broken.
See you on Saturday!

Setsucon Furry Fun
Posted 12 years agoIt's that time of year when the anime community takes over the Penn Stater Conference Center, and the Penn State furry group rears its head! For students, this is a great way to take a break from the early semester work, and for other furries in the area, this is a great way to have fun and meet people.
So, who all will be there? We'd love nothing more than for everyone to meet each other and have fun! There will be many fursuiters and non-suiters alike, so it's always awesome to congregate and leave a mark on Setsucon. (Hint: Suiters tend to grab a lot of attention :3 ) We should be easy to find if you look around, but if you want to coordinate ahead of time or find us there, please comment below or tweet or DM @psufurries.

Skiing/snowboarding adventure, anyone?
Posted 12 years agoHey all, gauging interest in a skiing/snowboarding trip to Tussey mountain. The date, as of right now, would be Monday, Jan 20th (MLK day, no class!).
The fun thing about Mondays at Tussey is that it's the 2-for-1 day for student lift tickets. Being a holiday, lift tickets for an all day ticket are around 40 bucks, ergo it's 20/person, assuming we get an even number of students involved. This doesn't include rentals, food, etc, so you are all aware.
So with that said, who would be interested in coming along if this would be set up? Feel free to suggest another date if you'd rather not do this on MLK for whatever reason. If there's enough interest and consensus in a different day, we'll figure something out!
:3~
Taco
PS, good luck in your spring classes, to those currently enrolled!
PPS, more events should be posted here and on the facebook page soon, so fear not, anyone who is snow-aversed!

Possible Future Get-Together, Feedback Needed
Posted 13 years agoHey, Penn State Furries!
I know that many of us are fully entrenched in our semesters, but seeing as we haven't organized a general meet-up in some time, I'd like to organize one! However, seeing as most of us are pretty busy, I want to pick a time that most of the people in the group can work with. When are y'all available? What times/days would be best for a semi-weekly meetup?
Also, any ideas/suggestions on location? Remember, some of us are poor college kids, so while a furry takeover of the Corner Room might be fun, it's probably not a great place for a general meet. xD I know we used to meet in Chronic Town, but I'm also aware of several folks who aren't able to hang out in there for health reasons/concerns. I haven't been in there for some time, but as it IS a hookah lounge, I assume it remains smokey by nature.
While this should be fun, I would also like to use some of the time to talk about possibly reviving the furry group around here, discuss possible future events, etc.
Note: This will be posted in every outlet that I know of to reach Penn State furries. If you're aware of any other way, please pass the message along, and let me know. We're trying to get the word out. Thanks! :3

Hey all.
We will meet up at the Diner at 4pm. We'll get a big table in the back, and we'll eat food! If you don't have money, come anyway !
(just don't order anything unless someone else is paying for you - we're all handling our own meals at this moment)
After the food, we'll either go our separate ways, or figure out something else to do. Spontaneity! It's both amazing and a big word!
(If there's any issues with this event please contact me. All members who have access to other furry communities, you're welcome to post the event on other places such as furaffinity, so-furry, pafurries.org, etc.)

Some words to my fellow Penn Staters in these hard times
Posted 13 years agoTo all my fellow Penn Staters,
I know this is a hard time for all of us. And i wish for NOTHING more than to be able to come back home to State College in a few weeks and be with my Blue Band and Penn State Families. I know this is a trying time for all of us. Unfortunately I'll only be able to come on short visits to see you guys, this is the curse of being an alumni :/
But I will ALWAYS be here for each and every one of you. I promise to make it back home to good ole state and see you all. We need each other more than ever now. And most of all, Penn State needs US. We need to remind the entire world just WHO WE ARE. It's a big task at hand, I know. I'll be doing my part here, and I know you'll be doing your part there.
Just like the rest of you, I do NOT agree with punishing people who are in NO WAY linked to these terrible events. We all know who should be the ones being punished, and I hope with all my might that justice will be brought to Happy Valley.
But we WILL pull through. We'll show them. And in good Penn State fashion, we're gonna have a damn good time doing it! ♥ Remember who we TRULY are. I love you all, and Penn State Pride swells within me where ever I go ♥ WE ARE!!!

Hello Everyfur :p
SO the school year is coming to a close, as the tend to do around this time of the year :p And I'm thinking of throwing another year-end furry picnic!
Last year's was tons of fun (for those who could show up :p) And I think it's high time to have another, especially because this will be my last furry event as a Penn State Student!
So there's a couple of times that we're throwing around, Mostly next Wednesday and Thursday, May 2nd and 3rd. They would be in the afternoon sometime, and I'm thinking either potluck, or everyone brings a few bucks and we'll get some pizzas :)
Frisbee, Food, Drinks, Cards Against Humanity?, Hookah? Sounds like fuuunnnnnn :D
SO! Who's interested? Cause it's happening. For real real. Not for play play :p

It's time for THON!
Posted 13 years agoFrom The Daily Collegian's Website
Months of preparation, fundraisers and anticipation have finally led to today, when the doors of the Bryce Jordan Center will open and a flood of students, children and families will invade the arena for a dance marathon unlike any other.
The 40th annual Interfraternity/Panhellenic Council Dance Marathon begins tonight at 6 p.m., lasting 46 hours until 4 p.m. Sunday. More than 700 dancers will take on the challenge, dancing for nearly two days straight as they fight to cure pediatric cancer.
THON Chair for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Lauren Leight had trouble finding the words to describe what’s on her mind heading into the weekend. When those on stage unveil the THON total Sunday night, Leight said the fundraising effort will represent something extra — coming on the heels of a year that included two student deaths, one during a THON canning trip, and the start of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case.
“I feel like this year it’s going to mean more than anything just because of this year at Penn State,” she said. “It shows how much we can come together for the kids.”
Today begins bright and early, for some.
At 4:45 a.m., the THON Overall Committee was set to descend upon the Bryce Jordan Center along with more than 100 committee members and volunteers, Overall OPPerations Chairman Will Martin said. They will be working constantly until the doors open at 4 p.m., Martin (senior-communication science and disorders) said.
“Everything’s been leading up to this,” he said. “The motivation booster is seeing the Bryce Jordan Center empty on Friday morning and then creating it and knowing that six hours later its going to be filled with dancers and kids.”
Though the organized setup began early Friday morning, the real start to THON Weekend preparation began Thursday night with a process they call “The Big Move” after the Nittany Lions played the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Martin said.
It took five rented Penske trucks to bring all the supplies for the weekend to the Bryce Jordan Center from storage units.
“The biggest thing is putting down the flooring,” he said. “Everyone knows and sees the mats there, but a lot of people don’t know that we place anti-fatigue padding underneath which is basically cushioned mats because the dancers and kids walking around on concrete all weekend is not very comfortable.”
Another essential part of the process, Martin said, is the setup of the storage units for the dancers. The volunteers bring in the shelves and build all of the small rectangular cubbies for the items the dancers bring, he said.
Leight said she will bring two pairs of shoes, extra socks and extra shirts for her cubby. To remain motivated, she will also bring photos of survivors of cancer she knew when she was younger.
Overall Public Relations Chairperson Kirsten Quisenberry said the support from everyone involved is essential. Each committee has a specific purpose throughout the weekend, from the Hospitality Committee providing meals and snacks, to the Entertainment Committee organizing the various acts, shows and performances, Quisenberry (senior-graphic design) said.
“We all have different tasks. We all have captains and committee members,” Quisenberry said. “We absolutely could not do it without them.”
Fourteen committees and 15 overall chairs make up THON.
Overall Entertainment Chairperson Kinjal Mathur and his team of 24 captains also arrived around 4:45 a.m. today to begin their preparation of the stages and technology in the BJC. They hope to finish their set up by 2:30 or 3 p.m. so they could go through a series of sound checks, run-throughs and technology tests.
Among some of the notable events and performances to look for this weekend include the Pre-THON event, the whiteout Pep Rally, the Kids’ Fashion Show, and a performance by YouTube sensation famous for her rendition of Lady Antebellum’s “Never Alone” Kait Weston, who flew out from Los Angeles for the event, Mathur (senior-biology) said.
Though the detailed schedule for the weekend is not available to the public, Mathur said the entire weekend will be full of fun events and acts, and even a few surprises.
The success of running these events relies on the strong relationship between THON and the staff at the BJC, Martin said. Managers of the arena, he said, will work to monitor the capacity throughout the weekend. The OPPerations Committee has also held training sessions with captains and other volunteers after they have spoken with the staff of the arena. Martin feels the crew is prepared to run the fast-paced operation at hand.
“They open up that building to us and for the most part let us control it,” he said.
When the doors finally open at 4 p.m. today, the rush of students will fill the stands as they gather for the special weekend. Some organizations will even resume a rich history of traditions that they practice every year over THON Weekend.
“The organizations will come fill the stands at 4 p.m. on Friday and whatever spots they like, they can take,” Quisenberry said. “Some organizations have a tradition to claim the same spots year after year.”
While thousands of Penn State students constantly cheer on and motivate each other, they realize he focus this weekend is on the families and the children who they have worked with to make their lives better.
More than 100 families are planning to attend this year, Quisenberry said.
“I just can’t wait to get there and see my Four Diamonds family,” Leight said.
And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why I, Jin Yaranda, am PROUD to be a Penn State student. This kind of selflessness is the pinnacle of what humanity should be. Perhaps there will be some bad blood about the evils of a few men toward our proud University, but we can stand tall knowing that, while that event was the act of a few, this amazing charity is the act of the whole.
WE ARE PENN STATE!
Until next time,
For the Glory!

Rest in Peace Joe Paterno
Posted 14 years agoI know that this is all a trying time for all of us and I know how sad that we all feel today, and how sad we all will be for a long time. We're all here for each other and the Paterno family.
We need to remember the good times. I know Joe Paterno has made a difference in many many lives, mine included.
Joe Paterno IS Penn State. Everything he did for this university was out of the most selfless, caring, kind-hearted place. I for one will always remember my conversations with him and how amazing he made me feel even when it was a short "you did a great job today" as he passed me in beaver stadium after a performance with the blue band.
Joseph Vincent Paterno, December 21, 1926-January 22, 2012.
You will always be in our hearts, and we will always and forever sing praises of your legacy <3
I'm here for anyone that may need some help in these times, or might just need someone to hang out with. I really could go on for pages and pages, but I think I'll keep this short because I know we all know what we're all feeling.
For The Glory,
Kotto

I'm here for anyone that may need some help in these times, or might just need someone to hang out with. I really could go on for pages and pages, but I think I'll keep this short because I know we all know what we're all feeling.

Welcomes and Vacation!
Posted 14 years agoHello, Penn Staters!
First of all, I'd like to welcome everyone who has joined the group recently! It's great to see that we still have some Penn State pride left in some of our graduated furs, and that we have a bit of interest from new furs to campus, as well! Welcome to the Penn State Furry Family!
And, now for the big event: WINTER VACATION! That's right, folks, I'm posting about vacation!...about half a week late! Things were a bit hectic on my end, so I apologize for that! However, now that vacation is in full swing, I have a question for all of you!
What are YOU doing on your Winter Break?
Whether it's skiing in Colorado, base-jumping off of some tropical cliffs, or sitting at home on the computer eating Cheetos all day, let us here at PSU Furs know what you guys do on your days off from school! Always great to hear about adventures that everyone is having!
Until next time!

In Light of Recent Events.
Posted 14 years agoTo all PSU students,
It is truly a tragedy, what is transpiring in the Penn State community. To have revealed to us such a terrible and twisted action from a man that so many looked up to for so long is mind-blowing, hurtful, and unbelievable. What Mr. Sandusky has (allegedly; he has not been convicted yet) done is inexcusable, and the courts will hopefully give him his just desserts.
As for all of the staff involved in "covering up" the facts of the matter, all I can say is this: they are innocent until proven guilty. Being the administrator to this page means that I must stay as impartial as possible when it comes to legally-iffy matters such as this, so I would ask that you look into the facts, read the briefings that have been released, and form your own opinions on the matter instead.
Our beloved football coach, Joe Paterno, after over 40 years of excellent service as head football coach, has had his name tarnished by the ongoing events, and has thus been fired from his position. While I understand that many, if not all, of you feel this is a major injustice, I must ask that you do what any Penn Stater should: be respectful, be kind, and be professional. Do not act rashly, or without forethought; what's passed is past.
Those people who were victims of the crimes should be in our thoughts. For the Kids should not just mean THON, canning, and Hershey Medical Center. It should mean that we support child victims everywhere, of any kind. Please, if you know of any way to help out the victims here, or to show your support for them, go ahead and do it. They need our love and support more than ever.
In light of all of this, I will ask only one thing of you: to uphold the Penn State tradition. We are NOT defined by the actions of the few. We are NOT our football team, our head coach, our president, or our athletic program. We ARE thoughtful, caring, and kind adults. We ARE responsible for our actions, and should do everything we can to right any wrongs we may do. We ARE people who strive every day to make not just our own little section of the world, but the world at large, better and brighter in every way, for everyone.
We are PENN STATE!
Until next time,
For the Glory!

Fall is Fast Approaching!
Posted 14 years agoHello, everyone!
First of all, I'd like to welcome the new members of our group! It's always great to see a fresh set of faces when coming back to this site!
Second, I'd like to apologize for the inactivity, again. Work and real life have gotten in the way of updates, but hopefully this site will be slightly better maintained soon!
Third, and most importantly, is the following: The school year is not far off! August 22nd is the first day of classes for University Park, and boy, with all this budget-cutting, school-restructuring and construction, it's going to be a doozy! But, have faith, keep sane, and study hard, and you'll do fine!
Plans for the semester, furry-wise, are to NOT have weekly gatherings, but to use various means of communication to collaborate on meet-ups, organized by different members of the group! If you have an idea, and you want to share/gauge interest/what have you, feel free to send out a ListServ/Facebook message, asking for interested parties and help with setting stuff up! We welcome your creativity!
Until next time,
For The Glory!

Congrats, Graduates!
Posted 14 years agoHello, all!
I do apologize for not updating recently! School started to get in the way of finding the time for this site, so I was unable to throw up a journal as often as before.
Let's start this journal off right: CONGRATULATIONS, GRADUATES! We're so PROUD of you guys for making it through, and wish you all the best of luck in your post-college life! Some of you will go to grad school, some to jobs immediately; either way, always know that you'll have a huge family of friends back here at Penn State! Make us proud, and change the world!
Second order of business: As I seem to be getting more and more busy with school as I get deeper into the major, I've decided to see if anyone would be interested in helping me co-run the PSU FA page? You'd be responsible for helping maintain journals and maybe finding/making some PSU art to post to the site! Interested? If so, send a note to this account, stating why you want to help run this page, if you've had any previous administrative positions, and what you plan to do for the page in general to help promote the Penn State spirit!
Well, that's all for now!
Until next time,
For the Glory!

News updates?
Posted 15 years agoHello, Penn Staters!
This is less of an update, and more of a call for suggestions! What would you all like to see as status updates on the Penn State Furs FA? Penn State events (like President Obama's visit) or furry-related campus activities (such as gatherings/parties)? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

End of Syllabus Week!
Posted 15 years agoHello, everyone!
We made it! Some of you may have late classes, but for the most part we are all done with our first week of classes! It's gonna get harder from here on out, but make sure to keep your spirits up and your study habits strong!
If, of course, things do get overwhelming, or you need some time to relax, there are plenty of things you can do around campus!
Things like Late Night at the HUB on Thursday - Saturday is always a great choice, since they show recent movies and do rather interesting things like concerts and balloon animals! Board games, food, and the occasional video game demos are always great fun! There are other things to do, like join a club or organization that suits your wants and needs! There are hundreds of clubs for you to choose from!
And, as I said before, if you get overwhelmed and need someone to talk to, there's always CAPS. If you get sick, there's the UHS, which have relatively cheap service rates.

Happy New Year!
Posted 15 years agoHello, all!
Welcome to 2011! A whole new year for us to explore, to enjoy, to weather and to grow in! Whatever may lie before us in this year, take solace in the fact that you are alive, well, and going to one of the best schools in the nation! Enjoy your family and friends as much as possible, and make an effort to grow personally this year, whether it be through resolutions, or just to find out more about yourself. A whole new year to explore...make the most of it!
Also, today at 1:00 PM, Penn State is battling against the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl! Sure, the weather up here is somewhat dreary, but don't let that dampen your spirits! Cheer loud, cheer proud, and cheer with all your heart!
Until next time,
