Chainmaille Comissions :)
Posted 12 years agoSo I'm still trying to do chainmaille commissions. So far I have mostly only done pieces for people I know and can hand deliver.
Which is fun because then I can see the excitement and joy on their faces from this thing of metal which I have given life :P But I'd
love to do pieces for people outside of that range, things that need to be shipped. I even picked up these adorable padded
envelopes for safely shipping shinies. :D
And I'm working on getting business cards made so my buyers can show their friends who comment on their pretty chainmaille and
be all, "Look, this awesome chick made this shiny bit of joy and this is her name if you want one too!"
Ok, it probably won't go like that, but still, it could. And shipping isn't much since all of the things I make right now are super
lightweight aluminum and generally pretty small (though I'd love to make bigger things too :) ) I shipped one bracelet to the other
side of the US from where I am and it was only 3 or 4 dollars. And I have even shipped a necklace to my sister in Scotland and it
was only 6 dollars for shipping costs.
So hit me up, this dragon/mare beasty wants to make things and I'm out of inspiration so I need your help!

Divorce
Posted 12 years agoIn case anyone has heard rumors or wondering what is happening, Elijah and I have decided that after a lot of talking and a lot of thinking that we will be splitting up and filing for divorce.
No one is a bad guy in this and no one deserves any blame. We have grown up and gown older since we were first married and we've realized that neither of us is what the other wants as a spouse. Please respect and acknowledge our decision, and make this time as easy and painless as possible by not picking sides or sending hateful messages to the other party.
A page just for chainmaille :D
Posted 13 years agoI made one. For me. And my shinies. On the Facebooks. Yay! Come check it out :D But don't be creepy stalkin' or I'll gut ya >_>

Chinamaille offers and HelpUsPlease!!
Posted 13 years agoSo in case any of you are not up to date, Pyro and Elijah are going through a bit of hard times, like many are these days. Elijah is fresh out of the Navy after six years of hard work, (Yay!) but so far none of his Navy connections have lead him to a new job like we were hoping (boo!). Add to that Pyro loosing one of her part time jobs and we are worried about being able to make rent and bills for the next month or so. But we are far too proud (and stubborn and mule-headed) to ask for charity or hand-outs.
Instead, Pyro is going to be going on a chainmaille making spree in hopes of raising funds for food and living expenses to supplement our meager income. And here's where you wonderful people come in. We are offering an incentive for you to help us out.
Re-post this journal with a link to your posting as a comment on this journal. If you convince someone else to buy something, you will receive 5$ off a single chainmaille item of your choice. Convince three people, receive 5$ off + free shipping. (Which means if you buy a pair of earrings and two of your friends buy something, you get them for absolutely free!) If you can convince more people, I'll have to figure out a better way of thanking you <3 Maybe free stuff :)
Colors available are any seen in the examples and a few others I haven't worked with yet. Feel free to ask :)
And if you have an idea for something you don't see in Pyro's Gallery, feel free to ask about it, the worst that can happen is "Sorry, I don't know how" but will most likely be "Yeah, let's try that!"
Also, Elijah is going to be offering Headshot art commissions for 15-20$ depending on your character's complexity. (example: A blue cat with tiger stripes would be 15, a blue dragon with tiger stripes, multiple ear gauges, lip piercings, and a multi-colored mohawk would be 20$)
If you purchase one of these Headshots, you will have an offer for free shipping on one chainmaille item :)
So tell your friends, tell your mother, tell your dog and remember that the holidays are coming up and who wouldn't love a shiny piece of chainmaille or a pretty new headshot for a Chrismakwanzikaunaffiliatedgiftgivingholiday present :)

More shinies! :D
Posted 13 years agoI ordered and received more shiny rings to play with. Yay! I got more colors than before, but a few of the colors I really wanted were out of stock, poo :( But I do have a few different sizes too. Also some jeweler's brass rings that look almost like gold, but much cheaper of course.
So I now have,
Red
Blue
Green
Black
Silver
Gold
Yee! I'm so excited to do more practice and work on some ideas that have been brewing in my head since I started mailling. I want to try patterns in Dragonscale, maybe diamonds, chevrons, or stripes. I also made a dice bag/purse for a friend that came out so-so, will post picture laters, but it's a technique I want to work on more. I'll be learning, or trying to learn, a few new weaves so keep an eye out for my hopefully not failed attempts.
And if you hadn't heard I am indeed taking comissions and I would be extra excited if you had something new for me to try or an idea to combine with one of my new ideas :) I'm still working up my speed so I won't be cranking stuff out super fast, but I have plenty of free time to work so things won't take forever.
Love ya'll!

Chainmaille Comissions
Posted 13 years agoSo I'm sure you guys have seen some pictures of my new hobby floating around your new submissions page. I've been having fun playing with chainmaille rings but now I've almost used up all of the rings I ordered and I want to order more to make more wonderful things.
So since I'm ordering new stuff, I'd like to know if anyone is interested in ordering something from me. I don't have any price sheets made up yet, but if you send me a note or comment here, I'd be glad to tell you what I'd charge for a specific thing. And since I'm ordering new rings, I can order in specific colors. Most basic colors are available from my supplier; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, gold, and silver. Everything that I am ordering is made of aluminum, a lightweight, shiny metal that has been either polished bright or anodized in pretty colors.
Feel free to look through my gallery to see what I have already made, and therefore obviously know. And if you have something specific in mind that I haven't made, ask about that too! I might know or want to know how to make this thing that you want. And then you would be my guinea pig :) I also need to check on shipping prices but they shouldn't be too terrible for shipping small, lightweight things like I would be sending.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Going to Rainfurrest :D
Posted 13 years ago

But whatevs
I'll be bringing my chainmaille kit to try to blend in with the other furry maillers in an attempt to be "cool" and pretend that I'm part of some social group. Also bringing some pre-made pieces to possibly sell and offset the cost of my hotel room. I'm hoping that doesn't violate some Rainfurrest con rule or anything to sell stuff outside of the Dealer's Den o_O
Anywhos, see ya-ll there! :D
Happy birthday to me!
Posted 13 years ago*Cue obligatory birthday wishes* :P
But seriously, I'm excited 'cause I have a whole day of fun planned with people I love and that's what matters. I would have been nice if
elijah_rayne could have been here, but his stupid job has kept him away for the past six birthdays. *sigh* But next year will be different and that's all that's important.
Yay birthdays and yay cake!

Chainmaille Adventure! :D
Posted 13 years agoJust bought my first pack of jump rings on E-bay for less than three bucks and soon I will see how adept (read: patient and attentive) at making chainmaille I can be. Whoo-hoo, new hobby! :D
I've been watching several of the maille artists here on FA and every piece I saw made me want to learn how to make those pretty, intricate pieces. Not necessarily for profit, but certainly for my own amusement. Amusement being a maille collar for my cat and a maille 'vest' for my sister's mini dachshund. He would look so cute. Oh, and maille pieces for myself. I don't usually wear jewelry, but for maille, I would find reasons to wear it at work even though it would be completely impractical because I'm a baker and metal jewelry heats up damn quick when you're leaning over an oven. I would wear it still, just to be able to say "Oh this? Yeah, I just made it the other day. It's whatever." Which is not at all the way I speak. But whatever :P

I am now partially unemployed
Posted 14 years agoSo the bakery that I worked full-time at is now closed. The owner was advised by her Bankruptcy Accountant that it would be best to close the bakery immediately. So I came in to work on Wednesday and was told I wouldn't need to come in to work the next day. Probably was to be expected with the occasional bounced paycheck, I just didn't expect it to happen quite so soon. And if I'd known there was a Bankruptcy Accountant, I would have started looking for other jobs sooner.
I still have a part-time job and a fully-employed husband and I just filed for unemployment benefits so I won't be on the streets anytime soon. But this is going to suck balls now that it's Christmas and I have to save all my pennies so not so many Christmas gifts will be had. Well, homemade gifts are always best, yeah?
And it's going to be really weird to have all of this free-time too. Since the beginning of '07 I have had either college and work, college and work and a second job, or just two jobs. I keep thinking that I need to get things done before I have to work on Sunday or that I don't need to plan dinners for the hubby and me this week because I'll be working like always... but now that isn't relevant. I have all of my evenings off for the first time in almost 5 years. So strange...
But now I made a list of Things To Do Now That I Am Less Employed. And #8 on that list is to Apply to Fucking Everything Including Espresso Stands. This list is not, of course, in order of importance. It also includes things like, Paint toes, Work-out, Update resume, and Build a giant-ass castle in Minecraft. I got my priorities :P

Note to new artists
Posted 14 years agoJust a list of Do's and Don'ts concerning commissions, especially those that are being mailed out
Do check spelling of your commissioner's name. Especially if it's a long one
Do keep track of what you've finished vs. what needs finishing in one big list, so nothing gets lost
Do keep information like mailing addresses where you'll know where to find it again
Do make a commission a priority if you realize that it's been three months since you've said you're going to send it out
Don't go buying a bunch of stuff, or putting aside money for things to buy in the future, if you need to buy postage
Don't correct spelling by gluing on a bit of paper with the correct spelling on it over the misspelled word or name, especially if you can still see bits of the old spelling along the edges
Don't keep saying you're almost done, or it'll get sent out next week if it isn't going to happen
Don't keep going on mini vacations to your S/O's house and forgetting your work at home, and then forgetting it when you get back too
Anyone else have any?

How long is too long...
Posted 14 years ago...to wait for a piece of finished art to be mailed?
Can/should someone be reported for continuing to say "Oh, I'll mail it tomorrow" for three months?
Should other commissioners be alerted that this artist tends to procrastinate? How?
Is it way past the time to be nice and considerate?
Should I stop asking the internet silly questions and just go ape-shit on dem biznitches?
Should I stop trying to sound gangsta in an effort to be entertaining?
I have my own opinions and thoughts, but curious on what other peeps think.
Thanks for reading :)

So that's that :) If I haven't already said I will be, let me know if I should keep an eye out for you while I'm there

I <3 Whistler, Canada
Posted 14 years agoAs a bit of a mini vacation for me, and also part birthday gift, my mom took me up to Whistler, Canada for the weekend. We stayed right in the village and people watched from our hotel room's balcony. Unfortunately, we were also situated right above a nightclub so the bass beats of the music shook through the floor at night. But it was all good because we exhausted ourselves adventuring all day so we were too tired to not fall asleep.
I did ziplines for the first time ever. http://www.ziptrek.com/whistler-canada For those who don't know what ziplines are, it's where you strap into a harness, let a guide clip you to a steel cable strung between trees or supports and zoom from one end to the other. Our longest line was 1100 ft long and about 150 ft above a gorgeous river. It was freakin' amazing and I would definitely recommend it for anyone not afraid of heights. Our guides even showed us how to flip upside down on our last, shortest line. I did it :D, my mom wussed out :P.
There was shopping (hella expensive) wonderful food (hella expensive) and oodles of chintzy souvenirs to take back (also hella expensive). And so many dogs! You couldn't look one way or the other without seeing at least a few dogs on leashes. Most of the shops even had doggy water bowls out on the sidewalks. There were dirt bikes all over too. Huge lines of bike racks to store bikes, bikes for sale, people in gear walking their bikes through town. Tons of bikes.
Also, oddly enough, I noticed oodles of pregnant ladies. Not sure if there were actually a lot of them or if I was just noticing them more for whatever reason.
While we were there, we played a game off and on throughout the trip. "Name that accent" We heard several types of British accents, Australian, French, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, a few Middle Eastern, Indian, German, possibly Swedish and a handful of others that we we couldn't identify. And we met a French speaking Quebecian(?) who sat near us at lunch one day and we attempted to have a conversation. I think it went rather well considering that he spoke hardly any English and my mother and I speak not a word of French.
There was other stuff too, but it wasn't as exciting, just sight-seeing. Didn't see any critters besides a chipmunk, I was quite disappointed. Not that I really wanted to see bears or mountain lions up close, but a deer would have been nice. :(

A better "How old are you" meme
Posted 14 years agoAn altered version that makes a mite more sense
[X] You understand why showing up late makes problems for everyone
[X] You always carry a pen/pencil in your bag/purse/pocket
[ ] You no longer stay up until midnight when you have to be up by 6 the next morning
[ ] You have forgotten your own birthday
[X] You realize that calling in sick for the sniffles really isn't an option
[X] You know how to balance a checkbook, even if you never really do it
[X] You drink caffeine because you need it to function, not for the high
[X] You know which dishes to wash by hand and which to put in the machine
[X] You don't learn new languages just for the curse words
[X] When you say you're going to do something, it gets done
[X] You have successfully raised a garden
[ ] You study before the eleventh hour
[X] You know what the eleventh hour is
[X] You have hand washed your own car
[X] You can spell You, Why, and Are with more than one letter
[X] Your favorite kind of food is no longer cheese whiz or Oreos
[X] You can go to the store without loading up the cart with snacks and sweets
[ ] You understand politics
[X] You can type whole sentences without looking at the keyboard
[X] You have friends that aren't all your age or close to it
[X] You have been to a party that didn't revolve around consuming the most candy/booze/drugs and still had fun
[X] You have realized that practically no one will take you seriously unless you are over the age of 25 and have a job that isn't at a fast food restaurant
[X] You realize that college really IS important
[ ] You have been to a police station without being escorted
[X] You have been outside of your home state by yourself
[ ] You do your laundry when the basket fills, not when you run out of socks
[X] You have filed a tax return for more than a couple grand
[X] You have used a pay phone
[X] You have been served alcohol without needing to show your ID
[X] You have purchased stamps at the grocery store
[X] You have purchased a lottery ticket
Which puts me at... 25 Only a couple years off

Pre-Rainfurrest BBQ anyone?
Posted 14 years agoSo is anyone that I know, or anyone who knows me, going to the BBQ being put on by the Rainfurrest organizers? It's this Saturday at Richmond Beach Park in Shoreline, WA. So far I'm going to go, be anti-social and lurk about because I know absolutely no one :P Maybe I'll bring some cookie bribes to help me be social. Cookies fix everything, right?
Bounced paychecks
Posted 14 years agoSo, I just checked my bank account to find it negative almost a hundred bucks. Which is news to me because I just deposited my last paycheck at the beginning of this week for almost 500 and I sure as hell haven't spent it all plus some in that short amount of time.
So it turns out that my paycheck bounced. I know that my work is low on money (read: possibly going to tank soon) so I always wait a few extra days to make sure that everyone else has cashed their checks and more money has made its way into the company account. But apparently I didn't wait long enough. Called my boss, she said that there's enough money now but that doesn't help because I don't have my check to cash because I always deposit it via automated ATM.
So now I have to wait until the weekend is over and then a couple more days to get my check back in the mail so I can go cash it again and pray that there's enough money because I have bills to pay and food to buy.
God-freakin' dammit. This almost makes me wish I had stayed at my sucky corporate kitchen job instead of getting this, not really so great anymore, dream job. Almost.
This bitching has been fueled by vanilla ice cream.

Still looking for a roommate for Rainfurrest

I'll be getting a double occupancy room at the Clarion Hotel as soon as my next paycheck clears, but I still need someone to share it with. Restrictions be here
-Only females with actually girly parts, all of them
-No heavy boozing, light boozing is ok :P
-No drug use, if you're stoned/high/tripping, please find somewhere else to room
-I will only be getting the room from Friday night till Saturday morning, but I'll be staying at the Con until Saturday night
-If you are along the route from Everett to Sea-tac, I have no problem picking you up or dropping you off if you need a ride, bonus if you can get to somewhere close to the freeway
-Room is ~100$ +taxes a night so say about 60 bucks even
-No yiffing! Yeah, I'ma bitch like that
-Cash up front only :P Can't have you spending all your money on commissions and presents before I get my share
-You gotta snuggle with me. Ok so that's not really a restriction, no snuggling actually required but I am getting a room with just one queen bed
I think that's about it. Feel free to ask questions here or in notes :D

My 'Better' Half
Posted 14 years agoI occasionally think of my 'sona as my 'better half' instead of her being me exactly. She is the more adventurous, daring, confidant, strong, adult person I hope to never grow into some day. Because she'll do shit like this:
http://youtu.be/mFu3YzRnyDU
But in my head I can pretend I can beat the shit out of people like this.
