Anthrocon 2016 Report
Posted 9 years agoI had an absolute blast at AC2016, there was nearly 8K attendees, and just over 2K suiters!
The pro is it's an absolutely massive con, we practically take over a mile radius around the convention center.
The Con is there's SO much waiting. RIP for those who didn't pre-reg, and a lot of the good panels were PACKED!
I met some furs in the fursuit games, took a lot of photos, and just had a great time trying to make the most of it.
Everyone loved Storm, especially his glasses. I think the official name really should have been DabCon2016 lol
I've quick edited and uploaded all of my usable photos on instagram: Storm_Coyfolf
and I've selected 32 of my favorites to re-edit and upload over the next few days.
I'll be uploading them 4 at a time.

Open to suit commissions
Posted 10 years ago[EDIT] closed while I work on some pre-mades [EDIT]
So I've thought it over, and after building Storm, he was a lot of fun to build/wear and turned out a lot better than I thought.
There's a few things I need to adjust on him and can avoid next time (mostly the eyes and fur length).
Now I've decided to open for commissioning. I really just want to get my name out there for now, so I'm starting at $2000 a full suit. If you're interested, it'll take 3-6 months after receiving initial payment, DTD, and measurements to complete because I'm not a full time builder. Since it's my second build, I want to keep it simple. Only canidae species, and no patterns more complex then Storm.
I'll leave this open for 2 weeks and pick one at the end, otherwise I'm going to start making a one off suit and auction it.
$640 is due up front, and the other $1360 before the suit is received.
After realizing how awesome cons are, I'm planning on using the money to attend more.
I also enjoyed all the complements Storm got, while I can't be in multiple places at once, It'd be cool to see my creations out there.
A few things about my work, I'm a perfectionist and like to over engineer things. I use Kevlar thread which has double the tinsel strength as nylon and 0 stretch, heavy duty poncho zipper, lightweight/breathable 1" foam, 2 pockets on the inside big enough for a phone and thin wallet, and other things like that.

Post RMFC 2015
Posted 10 years agoJust got back today from RMFC, my first fur con, my first suit, and the first time wearing him.
Technically two cons in one week, it was also the 75th annual Sturgis Rally (really just a biker convention).
I also got a photography contract during Sturgis which basically funded my RMFC trip.
I started working on Storm at the beginning of the year, but got side tracked until a week before RMFC.
I made the most out of each day tring to get him done, and worked 24 hour straight for 3 days with 4 hours of sleep in between, missing the first day of RMFC.
Then I got 2 hours of sleep before starting my 8 hour drive at 1am.
My Bronco normally gets about 12mpg, but a year ago I was working on an automotive physics calculator that I could use to calculate anything physics related to vehicles just by entering known variables. An then I remembered the drag equation (Fd=1/2PU^2CdA). Velocity is squared in its simplest equation, but to be accurate, the exponent needs to grow with speed. I determined the nominal speed for gas mileage and travel time would be about 55-60mph. When I made the trip from AZ to SD years ago, my best mileage was about 15mpg. But this time, I was getting a consistent 18.3 mpg doing 61.8mph (55 on the dash due to larger tires). So I was pretty amazed by that.
When I finally got to the con at 9am, I was surprised that check in time wasn't until 3pm and checkout was 12pm (really? a 3 hour layover?). So I was pretty much a zombie running on fumes until I could get a 20 minute power nap. I quickly realized how HOT a fullsuit is, and why the headless lounge is so essential. Also noticed a few flaws with my suit (because I'm a perfectionist) like the eyes, you could see my eyes right through them, color was dull, and they were on my face looking sunk in. That should be an easy fix. Then the body fur is a little too long, 1/2" should be better. Also, while my gloves were camera and phone functional, they were pretty dull. I'm thinking about using dye to detail the palms, and then making poofy paws that aren't functional, but look better. I also realized how much different fursuit photography is from cars, people, scenery, etc. You want all the detail in the suit, and to edit them like normal, but the fur makes adjustments sooo finicky. A little too much contrast and it looks like sand paper, absolutely no clarity adjustment, and highlights can turn out over bloomed or burnt looking. Also shooting while in suit is hard, no viewfinder, limited view of the screen and composition, and focus is difficult. It's definitely challenging, but I always love a good challenge, you have to learn somehow.
The beginning of day 2, I realized while putting my under shirt on, I could see through it. So I cut out 2 squares from the bottom and lightly tacked them behind the eyes to black them out... well, they weren't perfect. Now my vision and ventilation was severely limited.
Being my first con and suit, I really didn't know what to do, didn't know how to act, didn't have any furends, nervous and tired as fuck the first day... but in all, I had an absolute blast! I'm normally VERY defensive and don't even like people touching me and afraid to express myself, but in suit and at the con I'm a completely opposite person. everyone was so nice, giving me hugs, taking photos of/with me, and complementing me. It really made me feel good about myself, almost therapeutic in a way.
A few people asked me if I was open for suit commission, but so far I've been saying I'm not sure yet, because I have a full time job, and photography on the side. Most of your big time builders use that as their job, and once you build one yourself, you really respect the time and effort that goes into it, why they charge so much, and have to choose who to build for. If I start taking commissions, it'll be one at a time with a slower turn around.
On Sunday I had to leave at 4pm to make it back home by midnight, but as soon as I got out of Denver, headed to Cheyenne, my ABS light came on. Not paying much thought to it, I figured something happened when someone pulled in front of me the previous week and I locked up the brakes. But then my radio kept turning on and off, and that's when I noticed my battery gauge was at 9 volts. By the time I got off the highway, all instruments were gone. Just before the battery died, the alternator suddenly started working again. So I decided to try and make it home, and hope it continued to work, because no parts houses were open. well... right after I passed Cheyenne, it quit again. I turned off all accessories and hoped it would recover again before dying. With just the battery, I made it about 100 miles until I got to Wheaton Wyoming (they grow lots of... corn) where it finally ran out of juice. I had to sleep in my truck overnight when it dropped below 50f, and with no warm clothes or blanket, I had to sleep in my fursuit to stay warm. When morning came, I got the new alternator and swapped it out myself in less than 15 minutes and was on my way home. looking at the bright side, it would have had to be done anyways, it just sucked that it had to happen in the middle of nowhere. About an hour away from home, I started to smell electrical smoke, didn't see any, but a few minutes later my sub-woofer quit. It tripped all three 30 amp fuses. But I made it home just fine without that at least.
I still look forward to next year, maybe even MFF because the plane tickets are cheap. We'll see, it all really depends on if anyone is willing to split a room too, that's the most expensive part.

RMFC
Posted 10 years agoRMFC is less then a month away and pre-registration has closed. I was wondering who is going and if anyone would like to split a room to save money. I'd be fine bringing my sleeping bag.
I should also have my suit done by then. The body is almost perfect, some patterns turned out a little bolder than I wanted, but I've still got to make the paws, tail, and head (which I'm the most nervous about).

Spreading my Roots
Posted 10 years agoSo I've only been using ONLY Fur Affinity for all of my furry related stuff, and with this whole IMVU take over I realized I've had all my eggs in one basket.
The whole situation has me agitated enough to want to leave because of the whole donation embezzlement, the constant lies starting with the DDOS attacks in January when they were actually migrating servers, and IMVU is generally NOT a good company; They want nothing but profit and could't give two shits about the community.

All of this in mind, I decided it's better now than later to spread my roots to other sites. I've started by uploading my fursona art that I made as my new user name is "StormCoyfolf" to match. Next I'll find everyone I'm watching on FA using this:
http://kobitate.com/fa-exodus-helper/
Then I'll add my fursona art commissioned by others IF I can find them active on that particular site (there's a lot of blank profiles). After that I'll start re-mastering and uploading my animal photography and other art.
As for FA, I'm not going fully inactive or deleting just yet. I'm going to play it by ear. If art theft starts escalating more than it already has I'll start by deleting stuff and only be a lurker account. If they start changing the site beyond recognition I'll cut my losses and delete it. Meanwhile I'm just going to minimal activity while I build up my other accounts. I may consider making an Instagram account for more random content. Twitter really doesn't work for me.

Suit Progress
Posted 10 years agoSo yeah... I made a duct tape dummy today... by myself... and it was a pain in the @$$!
All of the tutorials out there say to have someone do it for you, and of course I was like "pfft... YOLO!"
I started with the crotchular region, moving on to the suspenders, easy enough.
Then I moved down the legs... still pretty easy except for picking up the tape when I dropped it.
After that I moved up the body, this is where it got progressively harder.
Half way up the body I cut my legs out so I could relax a little, but then came the shoulders which were the hardest.
I ended by doing one arm at a time, and cutting out that side before moving to the next.
FINALLY I WAS DONE!... but not so much -_-
I still had to patch it back together, and at this point, I gave up on my original idea of making "Canvas", my all white character; going with "Storm" instead, my fursona.
So I had to draw out all of the patterns, make a dozen corrections, and cut it apart.
6 hours later, I'm finally done and ordered more fur to complete the color palette.
Once all of that gets here I'll begin the week long project of cutting and sewing everything together.
Then moving on to the tail, paws, and finishing with the head after I've "warmed up"
And I've still got another project going on the side!
Mounting 30mm ammo cans on my bike, installing dual LED brake lights on the back of them, re-wiring them to work with the turn signals, paint them with truck bed liner (once it's warm enough to paint), fabricate a new rear fender, and get new tires.
Then I've got to finish diagnosing a light #7 misfire on the Bronco
(because "mechanics" around here are useless) and wrap the headers.
Probably run a compression test and bore scope, maybe even swap a fuel injector around.
I'm just praying something else doesn't come up or break in the meantime.

So Imma try to make my own suit
Posted 10 years agoI've been trying to have some of my favorite suit makers make a fursuit for me, but the problem is they get so many requests I always get bumped out. Now I'm pretty good at designing and making things from woods, metals, pvc pipes, hydrogen fuel cells, etc. But I've really never delt with fabrics. I've been keeping an eye on fursuit tutorials and it doesn't seem very hard, just time consuming and attention to detail. So I've devised a new character named "Canvas" because canvas is something you always start with. He'll be an all white canidae (as in no specific species of canine). This is not only unique and bright, but will also hide any flaws that may come up. Of course with anything I'm very particular on what I buy, So I've spent half of my research on finding the best tools and materials, still haven't decided on foam, but I'm doing the body first. Next up will be concept art, and progress photos.
If you would like to add pointers, it would be much appreciated.

Car Troubles
Posted 11 years agoSo the Bronco hasn't been running running reliably for the past two weeks. When the temps started dipping below 0f at night it wouldn't start in the mornings. For 3 days straight the warmest it got was 10f and I spent those days diagnosing the problem, suddenly it got warmer and started running one day, I figured the crank position sensor was going bad. Then the next morning no start, there was too much snow/ice on the ground and it was way too cold to fix it in the parking lot. So I called a tow truck to take it into the shop. They replaced the first thing that looked bad which was the distributor cap and rotor, even though it had spark. By then it warmed up in the shop and of course started running. So I argued a little bit that it couldn't be the cap and rotor (but i'm not the certified mechanic, what do I know?) plus I could hear the exhaust and something wasn't right. Then it nearly stalled crossing an intersection and ran rough the whole way home. Next morning no start, the same way it didn't start before. Called another tow truck to bring it to a different shop that agreed to work on it. 3 days later they call back refusing to work on it, this is the second time they've *cough*TMA*cough* done that to me. So I had ANOTHER tow truck take it BACK to the first mechanic (the only full service shop not booked for weeks). It sat there for another week, started every morning because the weather was warmer by then. Eventually I was like "Fuck It!" and had them replace the 5 most possible parts on it. They replaced the Crank Position Sensor, PIP Module, Ignition Module, entire Distributor assembly, and Temperature Sensor. They also found the timing was retarded by 10 degrees.
Nearly $1,000 later it runs like new, but now I got it back and noticed I have no rear brakes! Hard to tell when it happened because I've been using 4WD which ties the front brakes to the rear. So I figured maybe they need an adjustment, but then I realized the res was nearly empty! I must have snapped a rear line the other day romping through the snow on some rough dirt trails. Problem is I can't tell where the leak is because everything is wet due to the snow. So that'll have to wait for another 2 weeks, and just to rub it in, the 2 weeks I didn't have my truck it was beautiful outside with dry roads... as soon as I picked it up today it started snowing again... for the next 3 days!

Any of my watchers want an avatar?
Posted 11 years agoJust like my "Mystery Skulls" Ghosts avatar.
I still have the PDF, just have to change the hair and primary color.

3DS Stuff
Posted 11 years agoSo I got a 3DS XL at the beginning of this year because I was tired of cell phone games. So far the only games worth playing have been Pokemon Y, Mario Kart 7, Mii Plaza Games, a short Farming Simulator phase, Excite Bike, and 3D Colors. I beat Pokemon Y and playing online is time consuming (takes more time to start a match than it does to play it... if they don't back out when loosing). Mario Kart got old (still fun on flights). Mii Plaza games is still fun (as long as your battery doesn't die before you get 10 street passes). Farming Simulator hits a dead end after a while (both PC and 3DS). Excite Bike is only fun for a few minutes. 3D Colors takes a while, I put a lot of time into a Batman/Ironman drawing, but for some reason when I export it includes everything I've ever erased.
I've tried just about every demo, but nothing good so far.
Some upcoming releases that look interesting though.
Pokemon Art Academy. Pro, looks very detailed in instructions from novice to expert (i'm really not all that good at drawing unless I take hours to do so). Con, it's priced at $40. Releases 24-Oct-2014.
Super Smash Bros 3DS. Pro, I've played the demo and it's definitely worth it! has a full console play-ability feel to it. Con, may possibly be watered down from the Wii U version, didn't see a story mode. Side note, with all 3DS games, running them in 3D mode puts twice the strain on the GPU, usually games will drop frame rate to keep up with the graphics. Being a fast paced game, instead of dropping frames, I've noticed there's no Anti-aliasing, but in 2D mode the textures are much smoother. In either mode the game runs smoothly. Releases 03-Oct-2014.
And finally Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Pro, another well made game that should hopefully take a while to properly beat. Con, game play looks exactly like X and Y, like a money-pot CoD repeat game. Releases 21-Nov-2014
So there's my 2 cents, if any one want's to add me just let me know.

Brace yourselves, winter is... already here *~*
Posted 11 years agoso yeah... we've had snow clouds for the past 2 days but it wasn't cold enough to snow, so it's been kind of mist-ing.
Today it's finally snowing, but the weather isn't what bothers me, it's how people react to it.
driving like panzies, driving like retards, and even if nothing is sticking or icing, the city dumps like 3" of salt on the road. I absolutely HATE salted roads, I would rather deal with snow/ice than salt.
1) my truck has true 4 wheel drive with posi in the front and rear with locking hubs and 33" snow tires
2) it rusts the fuck out of everything and looks nasty
3) it pollutes the rivers and kills all the fish every year,
4) it sticks to the windows, making it impossible to see
5) the road can be completely dry (even grippier due to the salt) but people still drive half the speed limit if there's even an inch of snow in the sides.
6) I like sliding around
7) no matter how little snow we get, there's always at least one car slid off the road every time it snows, and they're always locals (I'm from phoenix... how am I better at driving in snow/ice than you?)
ughhh... this is what I have to deal with for the next 6 months.
in other news, I think I'm going to buy a snowboard and a season pass this year to keep myself busy.
    Today it's finally snowing, but the weather isn't what bothers me, it's how people react to it.

Farewell Mr. Williams
Posted 11 years agoO Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! My Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

Back in AZ for a while
Posted 11 years agoEnjoying the 110+ degree weather!
I'd take this all year round rather than 6 months of winter where the high doesn't get above freezing.
Also be in Flagstaff for the 4th... MURICA!

I need to start my resolution
Posted 11 years agoNow that the weather is finally warming up I need to start mountain biking, cycling, and hitting the gym more like I did 2 years ago when I felt invincible. Last year was a total wash, only biking a hand full of times and never working out due to the cold in winter (the winters here reach far into the negatives and last 6 months), procrastination in the spring/summer, and loosing a friend in the fall. After hearing a speech from the vice wing commander about time management, I swear that guy has 48 hours in his day and still gets 100 on his PT test being nearly 60 years old. So I have no excuse anymore, plus for the first time in my life i'm not working night ops, so that makes it easier to hit the gym after work because it's actually open. I used to be a very bitter but hard working airman always getting the shit end of the stick and knowing certain things were being handled the wrong way. But now I see new airmen coming in, some with a lot of potential but being destroyed like I was. After graduating Leadership School I know all of the things I thought were wrong are actually wrong and I wasn't just being rebellious. But I'm no saint, I've also realized some of the things I've done wrong that created a bad perception of me to others, mostly filtering my thoughts and actions, just because something's not wrong doesn't mean it's appropriate. And that's the downfall with most devoted, hard working airmen; and the kiss-ups are the opposite. I want to put a stop to that, reward the hard workers not the ass kissers. Every one needs some kind of motivation keeping them going, money certainly isn't it, but helping others and working with such a diverse range of people from around the world does.
On a side note I listened to an inspirational(?) speech from one of General Patton's nephews... and I thought I was bad at public speaking lol. I guess being related to someone great doesn't make you so, otherwise I would be an actor/spy plane pilot/firechief/MLB pitcher/News reporter/knight lol.

barely passed 2 classes like a boss
Posted 11 years agoI just finished a collage math class with a 75.98% when 75% or higher was required to pass. i only took the tests, quizes, and exams while skipping the discussions (i hate those). last week I also took a DANTE for "principles of supervision" (also requiring 75%+) passed it by 1 without studying at all.
Now back to watching the Olympics and playing Pokémon lol.
if I'm still stuck here by next winter I'm buying my own snowboard and a season pass, there's nothing to do in the winter but that and rentals add up. There's been snow on the ground this whole winter and below 0°F half the time, so MTB and road biking has been impossible (at least driving has been fun).
Also if you want to trade or battle let me know, I'll add you.

So I got a 3DS XL
Posted 12 years agoI've been debating for the longest time on getting one. The latest portables I owned before was a 1st gen DS and a 2nd gen PSP. They both kind of sucked (the DS was alright though), so I lost faith in hand helds. Smart phone games are getting bland, and I wanted something new. Originally I didn't want to buy a $200 consol to play 3 games on, being a total camera nerd though, the 3D camera caught my attention and reminded me of the original gameboy camera. Then I found out about the download service (like Steam without the sales) and the interactive games. Overall it's just fun to use, even when not playing a game. So far I've only bought Pokémon Y, the newest one for me since Crystal X)
if anyone wants to add me, my friend code is: 1134 - 8942 - 2543

Why Camera, Why?
Posted 12 years agoI sneak within 15ft of some bedding deer, turn my camera on, go to take the shot... CF error!
They notice me (I probably said wtf) they run 25ft, I use trees to get back within 25ft, reset camera, go to take another shot... CF error!
Turn off camera, remove CF card, put CF card back in, Turn on camera, every thing works now... deer gone!
FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This only happens so rarely, otherwise is starts in less than a second.

SGN3 vs. SGS4 vs. iPhone 5s, full specs and comparison
Posted 12 years agoHere's a quick rundown between the Samsung Galaxy Note III, Samsung Galaxy S IV, and the Apple iPhone 5s. For the purpose of this comparison I’m only using raw specifications and to make things easier to understand I’ve broken everything down into percentages. This took hours to research, but the purpose of it is to help you decide for yourself based on your everyday needs. Of course the biggest advantage of sticking to your old operating system is that you don’t have to re-buy all of the apps you already own.
The SGN3 runs on Jellybean 4.3 while the SGS4 still runs on 4.2.2; the 4.3 update includes multiple user support with parental controls, improved dial pad that shows 3 matching numbers as you’re dialing, improved auto correct, Bluetooth smart support which allows you to use less energy while Bluetooth is active, Open GL ES 3.0 which means smoother running games a year down the road, and a smarter photo album. The S4 may or may not update to Jellybean 4.3 a year from now. The iPhone 5s runs on iOS 7 which features time stamps on messages (Galaxies already have), custom vibration patterns (Galaxies already have), multiple search results with Siri, Twitter integration in Safari, Siri’s new ability to adapt to pronunciations, unlimited apps in one folder (Galaxies already have), Live”ish” wallpapers (Galaxies already have), multi-tasking (Galaxies already have), and camera burst mode (Galaxies already have).
As for the permanent specs; the SGS4 starts out 29% lighter (5.93oz vs. 4.59oz), 23% more compact (6.1ci vs. 4.6ci), and 12% smaller screen than the SGN3 (5.7” vs. 5”). The iPhone 5s is 13.9% lighter (@3.95oz), 26.1% more compact (@3.4ci), and 20% smaller screen (@4”) than the SGS4; and 42.9% lighter, 38.1% more compact, and 32% smaller screen than the SGN3.
Both Galaxies have a 1080p screen, but the SGS4 has a 12% denser PPI (386 vs. 441). This basically mean smoother text when held closer to your face, a quality magazine or photo is usually printed at 240 to 300 PPI. While the iPhone 5s suffers from a 640p display, which is 40.7% worse resolution at 326 PPI (26.1%) compared to the SGS4, and 15.5% less PPI than the SGN3, which is still acceptable considering it’s still better than print quality.
The SGN3 has a pleather case while the SGS4 is polycarbonate. While the iPhone 5s is aluminum, which does feel better than plastic, I just wish someone would make a magnesium cased phone which would be stronger, lighter, and feel even better.
The SGN3 has 16.7% more battery capacity than the SGS4 (3200mAh vs. 2600mAh) which means it probably has 11.8% longer battery life than the SGS4 taking into account the screen and processor difference. While the iPhone 5s has 39.6% less battery capacity (@1570mAh), which means it probably only has 8.5% less battery life than the SGS4, taking into consideration the much smaller screen and much less powerful processor; and 56.3% less capacity then the SGN3.
The SGN3 has a 17.4% faster processor than the SGS4 (2.3GHz quad core vs. 1.9GHz quad core) with 33% more RAM (3GB vs. 2GB) and one model up on the GPU (Adreno 330 vs. Adreno 320) which works hand in hand with the new Open GL ES 3.0 support. While the iPhone 5s suffers from a 1.3 ghrz dual core processor, which is 31.6% slower than the SGS4 with 50% less ram (@1GB); and 43.5% slower with 66% less RAM than the SGN3. Apple boasts that their new 64 bit OS and processor is the fastest thing out there, but this is false on multiple levels. The biggest flag is that 64 bit has no advantage on systems under 3.5GB of RAM, and even giving them the benefit of doubt, it’s only marginally noticeable when the RAM usage is nearly maxed out, not anywhere near a full 2X performance increase like they claim.
Both Galaxies share the same 13mp 31mm f/2.2 rear camera at 2 microns per pixel, and 2mp front camera, but due to the more powerful processor and available RAM in the SGN3 you can record up to 4K (4000p) at 30fps (surprisingly better than a GoPro @ 15fps), 1080p at 60fps (1/2 speed slow motion), 720 at 120fps (1/4 speed slow motion), and 480 at 240fps (1/8 speed slow motion), and possibly 360p at 480fps (1/16 speed slow motion). While the SGS4 retains 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 60fps, 480 at 120fps, and 360p at 240fps. The iPhone 5s sports an 8mp 33mm f/2.2 rear camera at 1.5 microns per pixel, and a 1.2mp front camera. This means it has 38.5% less crop/digital zoom capability on the rear camera and 40% less on the front. But let’s face it, Facebook photos only use 4.2 megapixels on high quality uploads, and 0.7mp on regular, while Instagram uploads are 0.4mp. As far as photo quality goes, they both share the same aperture while the iPhone has 33% poorer low light performance than the Galaxies due to the smaller pixels on the sensor, but this is hardly noticeable due to the overkill post processing on the Galaxies, which automatically raises the contrast and saturation on each photo, but there’s ways around this. However, the flash on the 5s is surprisingly innovative, not only can it control its temperature, but it also has better control over its brightness and exposure time. DP review has a neat tool for comparing using a controlled test http://www.dpreview.com/articles/21.....dio-comparison. As far as video goes, the iPhone only supports up to 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 120fps, this means it’s only features ¼ slow motion, which is better than the SGS4 at 720p, but only on par with the SGN3 at 720p.
Both Galaxies use the same phone, data, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi receivers, so reception should be the same; while the iPhone 5s has similar properties.
The SGN3 uses the new micro USB 3.0 port compared to the SGS4s USB 2.0 port, which means faster charging while connected to a 110/220v power source and USB 3.0 outlet on a computer, while the SGS4 still uses USB 2.0 which also charges slower on a computer outlet vs. a 110/220v power source. USB 3.0 is also backwards compatible to USB 2.0, so you won’t have to buy new cables, but a USB 2.0 will still bottleneck compared to USB 3.0. The iPhone 5s uses the new lightning connector, but unfortunately this is currently bottlenecked at USB 2.0 transfer and charge speeds and is not backwards compatible with the 30 pin connector, but I have a feeling the iPhone 6 will update to USB 3.0.
Both Galaxies share the same Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Thermometer, Barometer, GPS, and Humidity sensors. While I cannot compare the performance between these two sensor groups, Apple does claim that the new standalone processor for these greatly improves sensitivity.
And of course the SGN3 has the S-Pen while the iPhone 5s has the new fingerprint scanner as their flagship gadgets.
A final side note, the Android Jellybean 4.0+ operating systems no longer allow you to run apps off of the external SD card for a number of reasons; mostly speed, copyright stipulations, and the ability to sell higher memory phones. So I would recommend 32GB because 16GB can fill up fast (I’m always on the border), and future apps are only getting larger. As for the iPhone 5s, there is no expandable memory for non-app related storage, so I would recommend the 64GB version.

August Was a Shitty Month
Posted 12 years agoAugust started out on a good note, my birthday was on the second and as a gift to myself I ordered a new lens that I'd been saving for. But then a week later I got word that a good friend and co-worker decided to hang himself over the weekend (5th suicide this year), which left me lost and empty until the next weekend when it finally hit me that he was gone (not going into any more detail about that). The day after we lost him a bomber went down in Montana, which the next weekend as if the emotions weren't bad enough by then and working a regular 5 day week, I had to drive to Montana to assist with the recovery, working 16+ hours a day for 4 days, making a 9 day work week. The first night there was a fucking hurricane and flooded the tents, nearly ripping them off the ground. I was given a day off when I got back, which was cut short by getting called in a 9am (which is midnight for me) and then going back into work at 11pm. The next day we started working 10s (which is still better than 12s) then I heard my father was going in for spinal surgery, which turned out fine and he's better than ever now.
In all, August was just a fucking stressful month, almost a bad as when Japan had the megaquake when I was there, but at least September is looking better.

I figured out the iTunes "not authorized to play" problem
Posted 12 years agoThis is for any one that uses iTunes to download music.
Have you ever gotten the error saying that only certain songs aren't authorized to play on your computer, and no matter how many times you log in it still doesn't work?
I figured out the problem, apple is always adding more copyright restrictions with every update and they're trying to make the cloud service work better. with one of the last updates, each song has multiple files: the song itself and the unlock files. the problem is the unlock files don't always download at about a 1 in 10 fail rate. to fix this you'll have to delete the songs that don't work and re-download them.
I like the iTunes store layout and the players organization which is the only reason why I still use them, but this copyright stuff is getting out of hand!
- A little hint, to find the songs that are locked out, bring up all of your music and add the sort option "kind" and look for the files that are "AAC audio file" kind that were downloaded from iTunes (not ripped from a CD), delete them, then go click the sort by cloud status option, and click the cloud icon on each song to re-download it.

Apparently I Broke my Foot...
Posted 12 years agoJust over a month ago I wrecked my ruckus taking the most challenging road around.
I ended up leaning too far, and long story short, scooters are not sport bikes lol.
Both my knees and right foot were hurting pretty bad for the first 2 week, but I figured if I could still walk I must be fine... WRONG!
(I've only broken my nose and teeth before from a faulty helmet bmx racing)
A month later my foot still hurt a little and got worse during and after running.
So I went to the doctor, and he said I had pulled ligaments, strained muscles, and a fracture.
every time I ran on it, I re-injured myself, the break healed by itself partially, but hasn't had the time to heal completely.
I'm guessing when I slid (lowside) my shoe caught the asphalt turning me face down (not what I was trying to do), smacked my face on the ground, and then rolled to my back to slide across the road (I call it the crab slide, safest way to crash).
In the end the bike was ok (minus one mirror and hand grip), injuries heal, but my levis, wallet, and gloves have seen better days.
Eventually I want a sport bike, R6 or 600rr (250rr would be awesome if I could find one),
but I needed a way to save money for photography supplies, and $10+ a day in gas just driving to work and back was killing me.
I really wanted to start early this year to get my mile under 6 minutes, but it looks like that may have to wait, maybe just stick to the road bicycle.
moral of the story? casts are for panzies...

New Computer!
Posted 12 years agoI just got done building my new computer!
here's the rundown.
Intel extreme mobo with z77 north bridge
Intel 3770k i7 cpu overclocked at 4.5ghz
180gb intel ssd
coolermaster haf xb
coolermaster 240mm liquid cpu cooler
coolermaster silent pro gold class 1000w psu
asus dvdrw
4x4 corsair vengeance ram 1600 9-9-9-24.
and Windows 8 Pro
all about $1600, but no graphics card.
the integrated graphics are actually pretty damn good, its equivalent to a 1.5gb gddr3 gpu.
but eventually I want to get dual NVidia gtx 660s.
I also should have done 4x8 ram cards because stuff like 3D imaging and video rendering in Photoshop eats up a lot.
I also need to get a hold of some good hard drives for data storage, because I want only programs on the ssd, so far I have 1.75 tb worth of external hard drives which are slow and vulnerable.
oh yeah... one more thing, for whatever reason it will only post if there is ram in slot a2 or a2&b2. any more than that and it wont start, giving me a memory error. also, the computer is also only running it at 1333mhz, and whenever I try to go anywhere above that it gives me a memory error. I've tried two brands of ram and they both do it. if any one knows why this is please let me know, it would be a huge help.

Happy New Years!
Posted 13 years agojust a little recap ans resolution
2012 started with me in an undisclosed location until I got back in April.
Then I bought a road bike and picked up a new hobby.
Soon after that I found out an old co-worker was murdered.
After getting an 87.5% on my PT test I decided to start working out to start improving.
I went home to see my family for the only time this year.
Got pulled over for the first time for chirping my tires, got off with a warning.
I started Collage, Working on my Associates in Photography.
Nailed my last PT test with a 94.8%
Had my wisdom teeth removed.
And finally got to spend Christmas (technically) with my family for the first time seance 2007 over Skype.
Now for the Resolution
First thing next year I'm getting lasic eye surgery.
Visiting my family for the recovery.
Building a new computer that can handle my photography workflow.
Continuing collage.
Working towards that 100% on my PT test.
And finally trying to physicly spend Christmas with my family.
Happy Newyears Every One!
