Akirashima
General | Posted 8 years agoI just learned today that a good dear friend of mine, the man who officiated my sister's wedding and always could bring a smile to someone's face, passed away today. He was a talented artist and a dear friend. I miss you already

General | Posted 9 years agoI was going to leave the Year of the Furry as my journal, but I was scrolling through the archives of a webcomic I really should read more often and stumbled across a comic that hit too close to home. Two years ago I lost my grandfather to Alzheimer's. And this comic by Jes McConville detailing what happened with her own grandfather is very similar to what my family and I dealt with leading up to my grandfather's passing. I figured I should share to help anyone else out there who is dealing with a loved one suffering with this horrible disease.

Year of the Furry?
General | Posted 9 years agoI'm starting to really wonder if this is the year of the furry. I mean, we got Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, The Jungle Book, Angry Birds, even the cat-like alien main character in Ratchet and Clank. It also really seems like Disney is pumping out loads of good movies this year. Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, and then Finding Dory is coming in June. This is a good year.
Nexusverse and Personal information
General | Posted 10 years agoThe plan I have for my new universe, is it is to be called the Nexusverse. With the birth of the universe came the creation of the Cosmic Vixen, the mother of the Three of Eternity; Order, Chaos, and Balance. Order keeps an archive of the universe and all universes, making sure everything stays as it should, with order. The current form of Chaos also known as Pandemonium is that of a raven, and he's the most likely to be found meddling in the affairs of the mortals of Earth, finding them some of the most amusing. The Balance is Life and Death, Birth and Destruction. He keeps a balance between all, and is the ultimate personification of the Grim Reaper. The Cosmic Vixen knows that should the universe die, it will be him who comes for her before the universe would be reborn.
I was thinking of having a major event happen that is what brought magic back into the world, and the re-emergence of magic could be what affected the genes of people and superheroes started to appear, as well as affected science and technology into going to the weird science levels and make stuff like rayguns possible. And it would have limits too. Like spellcasters wouldn't be able to just blast powerful rays of destruction all day, the more powerful the spell, the more draining it is. The spellcaster would be like a battery, needing a day to recharge if they drain themselves using a bunch of very powerful spells. Not to mention, there is now quite a bunch of magically enchanted artifacts.
Also, a major rule for magic and magical items is it will never be an acceptable answer to just state as the reasoning for an item or anything being magically affected or enhanced as "It's magic". Say a magical axe that can slice through most anything (except something magically enhanced to not let magical weapons cut through it, then the spells enhancing the items cancel out). The idea could be the spellcrafter who helped forge the axe wanted a blade forged that would not need sharpening and could have supernatural cutting ability. That doesn't mean it can't every break unless that type of spell was cast onto it, but that would mean there would be situations where it could be lost or even attacks sent against it that it could not defend against.
Now an item like Mjolnir, it is magical and has a number of magic spells cast upon it, such as ability to return to it's wielder, cast lightning, allow the wielder to fly when spun, open portals to different realms, and can only be lifted and wielded by whoever is worthy, thus making the wielder hold the Title of Thor and granting him or her the powers of Thor. The only reasoning such an item is as powerful and great as it is was because it was commissioned by the god Odin by the greatest forgers in all the Nine Realms to be used by only one who was worthy enough, and Thor Odinson has proven himself unworthy at least a few times, and on more than one occasion, others have proved themselves worthy enough to wield the hammer. And Thor has had trouble getting his hammer back from others who proved themselves worthy enough to wield his hammer, such as the incident with Beta Ray Bill. In fact, the hammer has even been damaged twice, the second time resulting in Thor having to head to the forges of Pittsburgh to have the hammer repaired.
So, as stated, even magical items must have their own weaknesses and downsides.
Now onto the second topic in the journal title, Personal Information.
As some of you still may be curious about the events that lead to my removal from Train's group, I stuffer from a mental illness known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD and ADD. It is hereditary and runs in my family. I also have been dealing with it since I was a child, as I was born with it. I have been off medication for the past 10 to 12 years and am working to get back on medication, mistakenly thinking that I would be able to handle and cope with my symptoms without medication as I wasn't fully comfortable with the effects the medication had on me, and I was having trouble remembering to take my medication. After this time, I've decided I want to be back on meds, and have actually been actively trying to find a doctor through my mother, who is a registered nurse.
Some of the biggest symptoms of ADHD is procrastination but more on a level that so many things are going on in your brain it is hard to choose which is the priority or the biggest priority doesn't seem like the biggest priority in your mind which leads to things like story writing being repeatedly put off or completely forgotten. Anxiety and Depression tend to go along with ADHD, where stressful situations end up blown out of proportion in your mind, jumping to conclusions or reacting worse than a normal person would react. Thankfully while I have had issues with depression, that is the one thing I manage the best of all my symptoms, but I can have anxiety attacks or my anxiety can make things seem worse or more extreme than they actually would be to others. Problems with keeping you attention focused on any specific tasks or even hyperfocus where that task is all you concentrate on and forget about all other task until that first one is finished. There is also impulsiveness, which at times I manage to keep a handle on, and sometimes I give into. There's a number of times I buy something impulsively or even react impulsively and later slap myself on the forehead going "What did I just do?". Another symptom is Anger. It is quite easy for even a small thing to suddenly bring everything crashing down on someone with ADHD, with the anxiety assisting in making things seem worse than they would be, it just helps ramp the anger up. I've had times where I have bottled things in for so long that the littlest and stupidest things just set me off.
Anyone who knows me will have noticed some, many or all of these symptoms in me. I felt it was time to clear the air to everyone I know and care about. I am not deliberately doing these things to anger, irritate, or hurt anyone. At times, I have no way to stop myself from reacting and then afterwards am left trying to pick up the pieces or I just explode and don't realize what happened until afterwards. I have provided links at the bottom to try and help others to understand what I deal with on a daily basis.

Rebuild
General | Posted 10 years agoAs many of you already know, I am no longer a memeber of the Colmaton group. I will share details to anyone who privately asks, but I will not make them public, so as to treat the others involved with some dignity. I have accepted this and will move on. I am feeling strangely somber about this, ans feel no ill will towards Train for his decision. I do however lament the loss of a chance to repair our friendship, saddened that opportunity is lost.
I have plans to go my own way, and do my own thing involving my characters, rising above this like a phoenix from the flame. I already have a plan and it is called the Nexusverse, and it will be open towards all, even those from the old group, just to show them I don't mean them harm.
More info coming soon.

Adopt rehoming
General | Posted 10 years agoI've been finding one of my adopts from DemonNyuu ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/demonnyuu/ ) doesn't really fit what I bought her for, so I'm putting her up for readoption.
I'm selling her for about what I payed, $30. NSFW, green hyena girl.
I still have the original link from DemonNyuu, but here she is off photobucket: http://s4.photobucket.com/user/radarnocturn/media/f7KF3fI.png.html?sort=3&o=0
Update: Currently I will be keeping her.

The Endless
General | Posted 12 years agoI've been thinking of Neil Gaiman's The Endless characters from The Sandman comics of DC/Vertigo comics. I have thought of implementing something similar to them. They are older than gods and unkillable forces of nature, as their destruction would merely be the death of their "point of view", with another form soon rising to replace them completely.
I already have Chaos as the living embodiment of all chaotic elements of the universe. To put it simple, he is all chaos that is in existence. He is everywhere all at once, only choosing where to make his form visible. He finds joy in the pandemonium he causes or in the general discord of the universe. Power wise, he is an extreme level reality manipulator, and has been around since the dawn of time. I have been toying with calling him Pandemonium, or Pan for short.
The Archivist is another character I have, chronicles the stories of the universes. Thousands of books fill his library, each one telling different stories of different worlds. I am considering making him the embodiment of Order in the universe, my variation of Destiny from the Endless, where Chaos is Destruction.
The final character of the trio that I need to work on is the Reaper, also known as Death. He, or she is the most incomplete, currently just an idea.

what I've been up to. (updated)
General | Posted 14 years agoI don't know why, but I've been a bit creative lately. I've made 5 paracord bracelets; two for myself, two for my sister, and one for my cousin; and I've made three dice bags with a small portable sewing machine. And I have to make a paracord collar/necklace for my sister and maybe one for myself, plus I plan on making more dice bags. I just need more black paracord because apparently that's what everyone wants.
Plus I've been working on my super hero group, Atom City: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AtomCity/ and have been making plots for that. I'd love to run a game of Mutants and Masterminds, but will stick with the group and the forum: http://forums.bakaneko-studios.com/ under BOS/Colmaton.
I'm usually playing the villains at those two places, as it's fun to be the bad guy.
Also, I feel like I'm at a small crossroads. I'm going to try and start cutting some of the stressers out of my life, mainly people who cause me stress and frustration. I'm not big on confrontation and tend to bottle a lot of feelings like anger, worry, grief, and frustration up inside. It could be why I get migraines. Sometimes when I get angry, I will spout back in anger while other times I will go quiet and retreat within myself.
I don't know, maybe this is why I don't consider myself to have someone who I consider a best friend. I do kind of prefer to be a hermit because that way I don't have to deal with someone letting me down or frustration I get from some people. I try to get along with most everyone, and it is possible to rub me the wrong way. This past couple weeks I've even considered having less to do with the furry fandom and moving on with my life.

Sushi Kim
General | Posted 14 years agoFriday at Anthrocon, my sister and some friends of her's went to Sushi Kim's. It was packed and busy. It took us over half an hour to even get our entrees, and they were served at the exact same time as the main meals. I had to actually grab a waitress and ask her what was going on after waiting half an hour for our food. We were all upset that the people who arrived with a baby after us got their food before us and were even done and gone before we finished.
The reason I bring this up is when at the con I mentioned this complaint. Some people tried making excuses for the restaurant. And just now, while watching Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares Revisit (mostly revisiting an earlier episode in the season) (Also this is Gordon Ramsey, real professional chef who owns a few restaurants and has a show where he helps restaurants turn their business around) and I hear him say "Even when the kitchen's busy, you should be looking to get the starters out within ten minutes of receiving the order. These poor souls have waited half an hour for their pigeon breasts with mushroom ravioli."
Yeah, I don't feel bad at all for not leaving a tip, especially since we rarely saw our waiter.
Bitch at me if you want about it, but if a professional chef like Ramsey says 30 minutes for a starter is too long, I'm going with that point of view.

Marv
General | Posted 14 years agoI look like Marv from Sin City...but onto that later.
First, I got my sketchbook back from DCRabbit so HURRAH!
But, as for Marv thing, my sister accidently smacked me in the nose with the trunk lid of her car when she was closing it, so now I have a bandaid on the bridge of my nose.

Sketchbook
General | Posted 14 years agoAs you all know, I gave a sketchbook to DCRabbit last year at Anthrocon. He had promised he'd have it done before the end of the con. I never saw him again during the convention. He took it home to Canada with him. Long story short, I got upset over the very long delay and ended up getting a refund from him for the commissions I had paid him for. But I still have YET to get my book back from him, despite repeated times of him promising he'd mail it out to me.
I no longer hear any response from him, so I know he must be ignoring me and screening my notes. I've sent messages on yahoo messenger to him, shouts, and notes. I'm not the only person who's been waiting nearly a year to get a book back from him, there's others who've waited OVER a year.
My main concerns are that 1. I will never get my book back or 2. the only way I could get my book back THIS year will be going to Anthrocon. I'm unemployed, and job hunting. If luck frowns on me, I'll either have a job and unable to get the time off to go even for one day, or unable to even afford to go to the con. And if I do get to go to the con, my current monetary amount is that I probably will be only able to go one day. With my luck if I go just the one day, it will be the day I can't find DCRabbit.
What frustrates me the most about this is that the book contains artwork that I fear I may never see again or I may have to wait another year to get the book back. What makes it worse is within that book contains a picture that I commissioned as a gift for a friend. The picture was of my bat character and his female pony char having sex. I'm frustrated and I feel bad that I can not show that picture by GNAW to my friend Boss Hoss.
The worst part is that the picture I commissioned by GNAW is I never got to scan it off nor did I take a picture of it before I gave it to DCRabbit. And I fear that I will never see the picture again and only have my memory of that short moment when I looked at the picture.
All I want is my book back so I can finally put all of this mess behind me.

Birthday
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, this coming Saturday, my friend Freya Fox:
freyafox will be having her birthday party at her place. I plan on going and picking up my friend
Akirashima and taking him over too.
Then, next week, Sunday the 13th is when my family plans on celebrating my birthday. I turn 27 on the 15th. May go visit some friends on the 15th or invite some over on the 13th. Not sure yet.
But onto other matters, I still haven't received my sketchbook in the mail from DCRabbit, and he hasn't seen my notes to him with my mailing address. I'm hoping it wasn't lost in the mail. The notes state that if he's too work busy to get to the post office, to ask one of his local friends like MaxBlackrabbit to mail it. I've already gotten my refund back from him for the art I had commissioned him for, now I just hope to get the book back as well.

Novels
General | Posted 15 years agoI've been thinking of writing a novel. I've got a few story ideas in my head, but one of my main problems, besides getting sidetracked, is when I get stuck. I end up not sure where to take the story.
I was curious what others do to deal with writer's block?

Sketchbook Commissions UPDATE!
General | Posted 15 years agoI'm posting this journal because I'm a tad tired of not getting replies to notes sent, at most, once a week.
This year at Anthrocon, I gave DCRabbit my sketchbook on Saturday during the convention. I recall asking when I should check back to see if it's done. He said Sunday.
Not long after that, I end up speaking with Duo, and he mentions it took him a year to get his sketchbook back. I find out DC mentioned not feeling well and left for his room. He's not seen for the rest of the convention.
I had commissioned DC for two pictures, each one featuring two characters. The sketchbook contained a picture by gnaw that I had gotten as a partial gift for a friend, containing our characters together.
I have had poor contact with DC since AC, only getting the occasional reply to my messages. Near the end of September, I told him I wanted the book back and didn't even care if the pictures were done at all. That if the pictures weren't done to just issue me a refund and send me my book back. This was after repeated times of being told "I'll have it done" in the few instances I actually got a response back from him. I had even mentioned that I wanted the book back to take with me to a local furmeet.
He replied that he'd have it mailed out that weekend and it was finished. Surprise surprise, I still havn't received it.
I really don't care about the artwork from him anymore, if it's done or not. All I want is my book. If it still actually hasn't been done yet, just issue me a refund, I'll gladly supply my paypal.
To make everything worse, this isn't the FIRST time he's taken over a year to return someone's sketchbook to them. I've learned of numerous other people who've given him sketchbooks and didn't get them back until a year later. Some people had even showed up at Anthrocon this year wanting their books back after he had them for over a year, yet didn't get their books back.
I'm tired of this. I'm tired of the lack of responses, and I'm tired of waiting. I feel I've been patient enough, and I just want my book back.
I really don't care about the artwork at all. Getting my book back is my only concern. If I had known I'd have to wait like this, or that it might take a year, I NEVER would have commissioned him at all. I would have kept my book to myself.
What makes it worse is there's artwork in that book I haven't seen since Anthrocon, artwork that I wanted to show my friend that I got for us but can't because I can't get my book back. It feels like my book's being held hostage.
To be perfectly honest, the odds of me commissioning DCRabbit again are highly unlikely.
UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!
To clarify, I'm NEVER going to commission DCRabbit again. I've given him an ultimatum to mail my book out this weekend. I had sent him a note two weeks ago to respond and mail my book out, that he had two weeks. He never even opened it. I even sent a shout a few days ago about the note.
I know http://www.furaffinity.net/user/shagydoo is another guy on fa who's dealt with and possibly still dealing with this long period of avoidance from DC.
That said, I'm furious. With each passing day, I'm considering more and more to be posting on Artists Beware. I've even contemplated giving up completely on the book and sending him a bill for the book, the two commissions, and every other commission I've LOST that is in that book and just giving up on the book completely.
I've officially canceled the commission. I want a refund and the book, or if he has actually done the art, just the book.
This year at Anthrocon, I gave DCRabbit my sketchbook on Saturday during the convention. I recall asking when I should check back to see if it's done. He said Sunday.

The Walking Dead
General | Posted 15 years agoLast Sunday was the premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC. It got me thinking, if the dead did rise, what would you want to use to survive against the rising hordes of the dead? One place that I found that got me thinking was https://www.zombietools.net and another was https://www.zombiehunters.org Thought I'd make a list with links or descriptions.
Weapons:
1. 18" or 36" long crowbar
2. 23" machete or possibly this machete: http://www.knifecave.com/fantasy/st.....ty/MA1475.html
3. A standard knife to use for everyday tasks. I'd take this one: http://www.knifecave.com/fantasy/st...../DBJM005B.html
4. Quite possibly a lever action rifle or pump action shotgun. Unfortunately I'm not very knowledgeable with guns, nor do I currently own any (my father does) so I can't be more specific. Granted, a gun doesn't go high on my list of items I'd take with me because of the major factor that guns require ammo and depending on how long the zombies are around, I'd probably run out of ammo too quickly.
I have considered these two items from Cold Steel: http://www.coldsteel.com/grossemesser.html and http://www.coldsteel.com/1917cutlass2.html but the second is as large as the larger machete which was the first item link I listed.
I do own these two items from Cold Steel: http://www.coldsteel.com/africanwalking.html and http://www.coldsteel.com/warhammer.html but am unsure about using them during such a zombie apocalypse.
As stated with the guns before, I'd probably avoid a pistol, primarily for the fact that when ammo runs out it's useless. Not to mention I'd need to learn to aim the thing. Also, the Walking Dead brings up a good point with guns and a huge downside for them. The sound of the gun being fired will attract more zombies. A melee weapon dispatches the single zombie without alerting others. And since they shamble, it'd be easy to take one out and run away before more arrive. The thing to avoid would be places like cities, where the zombies become deadly hordes and can surround and trap their victims. That's the major advantage the living dead have, NUMBERS!
Well, what about everyone else?

Fanatics
General | Posted 15 years agoSomething that I've found on youtube. It's from back in March, but still creepy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrluY_VCDvM And the link at the end of the video is to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTTAS5KoieQ
It shows why I find such fundamentalism in any religion to be scary. Proves that no matter what you... believe in, no matter what your religion, that there is such thing as fanaticism, and that's dangerous.
If such fanaticism is allowed to take hold and gain power in the States, you'll have a country ruled by such religious fear as seen in the Muslim world with their fanatic religious leaders in power.
In these cases, religion is merely used as a tool by these power hungry fanatics to gain and keep power. They use it to terrorize their followers into obeying with the threat of punishment after death, and through it use their followers to hurt others.
EDIT: In relation to the above topic, and because it bears reflecting, a speech from JFK concerning the first amendment.
http://www.au.org/homepage/features/archive/2010/kennedy-speech/?utm_source=au%2Bhomepage&utm_medium=homepage%2Bbanner&utm_campaign=Featured%2Bon%20homepage
You can watch an excerpt, listen to the entire speech, or read the speech, all the links are there.
They are true words that every politician should hear and follow. It does not matter what deity you worship, what house of worship you pray in, or even if you repent in confession. None of those actions can change or undo any misdeeds you commit or turn you into a good person. Even claiming that your actions were "for the Lord" doesn't turn bad deeds into good deeds. What matters is your action in the real world itself.
Take Dennis Rader for example. Considered by his fellow churchgoers to be a good man. Was so well liked at his church he was actually voted president of the congregation. Little did any suspect he was BTK, and would kidnap, bind, torture and kill women.

Obscenity
General | Posted 15 years agoTaken from a response of mine on insane_kangaroo's journal here on fa, because I thought others would need to see it. It is in response to lolicon being considering child pornography and the PROTECT act.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new.....-obscene-manga
Here's the part of my post:
This is something I thought of last night as a very possible similarity to lolicon that COULD hit the furry fandom. Now, let's say that beastiality laws were to extend towards images of sex between a human and non-human animal. Say that it included even drawings, in which it was clear that the non-human animal involved wasn't even real.
That would surely get some furry porn in trouble, because furries are non-human animals and since the law is a broad stick, someone could take it to extend even towards anthropomorphic creatures. Now let's say the law was redefined to include non-human animals in any sexual situation. Suddenly, all furry porn can get you arrested thanks to these Obscenity laws. And yes, that could happen.
These obscenity laws are being fought because part of it is, who's the prude that gets to decide what's obscene and what's not? There's vore websites that show women swallowing small live fish for people's enjoyment. One man who ran a movie rental store chain was arrested and charged with obscenity because his stores rented out porn. http://www.nytimes.com/2000/10/23/t.....y/23PORN.htmll You just need to see the first page.

Lets just hope they get their brains between now and next year and continue to not add creationism to the cirriculum!

Creationism...not again!

Why won't people stop being stupid and realize that creationism and it's current trojan horse known as intelligent (hah!) design will never and should never be taught in schools! All these nutters want is to throw evolution out of schools and bring bibles into public schools, something that directly VIOLATES the first amendment. Public schools are funded by the government, and the first amendment directly states that the government will not and shall not impose a religious view on it's people.
If you're so desperate to bring Christian values to people, then go out the prothelitize, preach your religion to people, but don't get violent or mean when they decline! Don't force others to believe what you believe, and by forcing creationism and intelligent design into schools you are doing just that. Look overseas, look at the Roman Catholic church and the Pope. Outside of the US you do not see any question about the validity of evolution. Even the Roman Catholic Church has accepted it! Pope John Paul the second went so far as to state when defending the choice to accept evolution, "The Bible is not a guide on how Heaven was made, but a guide on getting to Heaven."
If you want to believe in creationism, go ahead, I don't care, but stop trying to force it into public schools! I've seen and read the arguments for creationism, I've seen numerous interviews of people who head the Creationism Museum, and video taken of tours of the museum, and I find it all to be outragous. Man played with the dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden? Rapid "super evolution" occuring right after the great flood, thus allowing a single pair of canines to rapidly create multiple species of canine in maybe a hundred years without any severe mutations to the species or problems with inbreeding? Water pouring out of the center of the Earth to flood the entire planet and uprooting every tree on the planet without destroying the soil beyond repair? The dinosaurs that romped and played with the humans being buried under all these hundreds of layers of soil while the humans weren't? All of these things that could not happen today caused magically by God all these thousands of years ago, and relying on a single book as their basis for their sciencetific research.
In one of the videos, the head of the museum makes an analogy between the bible being a solid book for comparing science against (even the Pope's head religious scientist states that modern science has only been around for a few hundred years, the bible's a couple thousand years old. That's a big gap between modern science and when the bible was written.) a history book. He states that if someone stated a button was on one of George Washington's jackets, you could do carbon dating to verify it's age, but you'd also go to the books and check to see that it was of the style and type that was from the time period that George Washington lived, and that's how the bible should be used when comparing discoveries in modern science.
His whole argument is bullshit. The book that would accurately list information on buttons would have been fact checked and verified to be true. You can also compare the information in that book with known articles of clothing from that time period. The information in those books are known to be true as well because of the historians who's jobs it is to ensure that the information is true and should any historical information be found that proves previously found assumptions to be wrong, it's evaluated, researched and then the books are changed and updated!
The bible has very little real world information of this type completely verifying the stories within are true. We have been able to verify locations, but the stories of people and the events are still up there with Homer's Illiad. We know the city of Troy existed, we've found the city, but have we found proof of a trojan horse or the legendary Achilleas who's heel was his only weakness? No! That's exactly why we can't use the bible as the basis to evaluate science against. The story of Genesis could be a fairy tale or a complete analogy for when Man went from being a Hunter Gatherer to a Farmer and how he could never really go back to the roaming lifestyle where he merely followed his food to whatever location it went.
