hi, I got a bluesky recently, which may be better suited for keeping up with stream updates (besides just following me on picarto)

this isn't really me doing an "exodus" or anything but i think it makes more sense for me to use a different platform for making stream announcements since doing FA journals all the time is kind of awkward, and I think bsky's format & the way people use it supports this kinda thing better. also, it seems like many furries have moved to that platform since twitter is now somehow even worse than it used to be lol

Post-Stream edit: thank you for coming ! this is the most comfy I've felt making art & interacting w people in years. I am hoping to stream more !! I don't always wanna announce on FA though, so, please follow my picarto and enable email notifications if you want to stay in the loop.

I just pre-registered & I will be there!! I dunno who all's goin besides Massachusetts furs I've already met, but hopefully I can bump into some new faces.

I will be -trying- to get a table at artist's alley every day, but I hear it is much smaller than AC so I don't know if I'll land a spot for sure. In any case, I hope to see you there :3

I'm gonna be trying to run a table at artist's alley as much as possible. I'll be doing badges & on the spot digital commissions while there. For right now, the commission queue is on pause since I have a lot to do in preparation for this convention. When I return, I'll be back to full steam ahead w/ the main queue. It is my first furry con, and I am pretty nervous, but I figure I may as well hit as hard as I can & do work while also having a con experience.

In other news, my Weasyl is now fully caught up w/ both my galleries here and is going to be the place to find the bulk of my content going forward. I'll still be uploading stuff on FA occasionally but there will not be nearly as much content as there is on my Weasyl or twitter. I encourage you to follow me there, as checking multiple sites for content is much easier than uploading/maintaining multiple sites. Hi! Originally, I wasn't going to announce this until I reopened, but I wanted to give people some time to prepare for it. I've had to bump up my prices by a substantial (though reasonable, I think!!) amount. (Check my commission info tab for the new prices!)

POST-EDIT: ALSO!!!! I am working on finding a solid way to do discounts for bulk orders!! I still really love doing TF sequence, multi-page ideas, etc, and I want to make sure those are affordable!! Don't feel like I've gutted you, TF/WG sequence fans.. !!!

What brought this about?

If you didn't catch my last journal, I just moved to Massachusetts. A pretty far move from my old home in midwestern Missouri, and a pretty large jump in financial responsibility. Taxes are higher here so groceries generally cost more, rent is waaaay higher here & just in general there've been a lot of hidden costs. With my old rates, I was averaging 8$~9$ per hour which is below the minimum wage in Massachusetts. I think it's pretty well known you can't live off of minimum wage in general, so... price jump. Even when I was in Missouri (which is about 2/3rds cheaper to live in than Mass!) those wages weren't really cutting it-- I was actually just scraping by because I was living with a roommate who charged me a lot less for rent than he should've >_o;;

Many of my clients told me I've been underselling myself, too.

I asked about this on Twitter when I suggested the new price sheet and a lot of people told me I'd been grossly undercharging & that they'd be on board with the new prices. They've also suggested that charging more will enable me to generally have better quality work. The old prices have been stagnant for, I think 2 years or so. I have packed loads of improvement into even just one year because of how much extra study I've been doing on things like perspective and different types of textures. I spend more time on my art now too, and being paid properly will enable me to spend that amount of time without having to introduce crunch time at the end of every month just to make enough to eat and pay rent. Some of my followers have told me that I need to recognise that my time is as valuable as anyone else's and so I should be able to comfortably make enough to live if I'm working every day like I work (I rarely take weekends off!!) & if I'm working extra hard I should even be able to pull in savings.

In closing,

I really hate dealing with money stuff. LOL. I really do!! I hate being like "sorry guys y'all gotta pay extra" because I love doing this job and I love all of you and I want you to be able to get whatever art you want from me because it is super awesome seeing your reactions and even drawing themes that I love a lot too!! I cannot believe everyone likes my work so much!! ... But I also have to realise that, you know, regardless of the nature of this job, regardless of if I enjoy it this much, it's work and if I'm dedicating this much time to it, I have to be able to live somewhere and not starve and afford to use the internet to actually do the job... and maybe even get a nice thing every once in a while, too. At the end of the day, I think this is just part of acknowledging my growth as an artist. Being paid properly means I won't have to skimp on quality or overwork myself into wrist injuries just to make rent. If my work speaks for itself, it'll still sell.

god that was the most grueling 2 weeks

AHEM I mean hi my wrist is OK again! I started doing some for-fun painty stuff last night (which I posted on twitter, a couple drawings of  wind-a.m.'s character which I might put here later...) but um, mostly just posting this to talk about what's goin on!!

I am jumping on a plane to Boston, MA tomorrow to fly far far away from my home state of Missouri. Leaving behind family is hard! It is scary! Somehow scarier than going to Germany was!! But I'm excited. Sometimes we get in a position where we feel like we're just stagnating, and so we must make a large change. That is this for me!! I dunno if I'll be moving there for good or if I'll just be staying for a few months or what, but it is exciting nonetheless. I'm gonna be crammed in an apartment with like 5 other people and no room of my own and it's gonna be awesome.

Anyway!! That said, I'm getting back to commissions as soon as I can. Presently I'm just sorta drawing stuff for myself/random gifts for people whose characters I like to get used to drawing again, 'cause turns out not drawing for 2 weeks makes it really weird to start again. I hope my wrist never explodes like that again :B

if you commissioned me at the recent opening & you've been excitedly checking my page but noticed the queue's been moving really slowly, it's because my wrist happened to spring an injury like the first day I started working after that. HUORGH

Who would've guessed that not really taking a weekend off for a full month & most of my recreational activities requiring heavy use of my hands would have an impact on my wrists??? not me, apparently.

Anyway with that in mind I've still made it a goal to get everyone's commissions done as fast as possible. But, because I really can't risk totally destroying my wrist, I have to take it really easy until I've fully recovered. Which blows because it's already been like 4 days and I'm sort of a workaholic and it's driving me nuts PBBBTHH!!!

I've actually been working a little each day but I need to restrain myself from that b/c it's probably slowing down my recovery >_o;; people have been shoutin' at me to just stop working repeatedly so I GUESS I'LL LISTEN FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS BLAAAR

With all that in mind, this means that everyone's commission turnaround is gonna be pushed ahead by about a week, possibly more if this doesn't clear up quickly. I'm really sorry about that & I'm trying to reduce the amount of time added by as much as possible. As always I am committed to doing the best job I can, and because of that, I have to make sure I don't ruin my wrists!!
