Posted 3 months agoI've tidied up and tossed a bunch of my old stuff into Scraps, including quite a few finished pieces that I felt weren't done justice by the scanning. Though I've kept some out that I still like anyway... 😅
But I think these days the priority is creating things that look good on-screen, so I might move to digital colouring and fewer tiny little fiddly lines.

Non-rude comic plotting
Posted 13 years agoI'd really like to have a new printed comic to take to Supanova this year, one that I can confidently stick out on the table without worrying about zomg! all the shocking rudeness in it.
So I have now come up with A Brilliant Idea. No-one will buy it, but I care not, as it's still a Brilliant Idea.
I've been reading a bit about baboon and hyena societies recently. They both have lots of people in them, lots of vocal communication, can be pretty aggro, and life's not much fun for whoever's on the bottom of the ladder. So first I thought I wanted a baboon and a hyena to run away from their societies and start a new one, and they would be like Best Hunting Team Evar but nice to each other. But they'd have to learn to talk to each other, and both species have greeting/friendly rituals involving their rudie bits and, oh look, there it goes back into unsuitable territory once again.
So let's instead go to a time and place where there is already an amusing baboon/hyena hybrid animal (probably set on the same world as Dark Lord's Garden and therefore thanks to magic).
I am currently re-reading Robin Dunbar's 'Grooming, Gossip and the Evolution of Language' which suggests that human language came about as group sizes increased and people needed to maintain relationships with each other in ways other than social grooming (which takes up time) and also to talk to each other about what other people were getting up to.
So I want, in 40 pages or less, to make a little story around the time when language happens in the hyenaboons. (Also, need a better name, probably should raid some appropriate African language. I can get 'fisi' and 'nyani' out of Swahili, for instance.)
No actual plot yet, or design of exactly which bits of which animals they should have (though they need hands, and epic scary baboon teeth). Still, should be entertaining.

Some good comics!
Posted 13 years agoHere are some mostly-rude-ish ongonig comics I found and read on here recently.
'Red Lantern' by Rukis and AlectorFencer. First page: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4587943/
Set on a vaguely Arabian/North African island, in a brothel, where a new slave has just been brought in, and another male whore has to get him ready for his new role. Also, there are colonial-European type sailors hanging around causing trouble, and having a war with some dragons.
I tend to have trouble reading the speech bubbles in the right order, but maybe it's just me.
'♥' by Reiger. First page: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1994315/
A completely unashamed pr0n comic, that features a fabulous rainbow of fetishes. Plus, it also has a story. There's a lot of Dranz the half-dragon boy (who is a bit of a git) in the opening pages, but there are plenty more characters to come. Such as the silly randy horse and the female centaur. Donate the author some moneys so he can make moar comics!
'Greyscale' by Demicoeur and Ski. First page: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5506460/
Has shapeshifting dragons and phoenixes. A dragon gets captured by the phoenixes and locked up in a lab.
And of course, 'Spun Off' by my old comicking friend whose username on here is Rocrspecies. First page: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5228783/
(there's a gap in the middle, where you will need to use the gallery to find the following page)
About a village of faeries who have a very prudish goddess who won't let them make whoopee in public.
There is also Vince Suzukawa's comic, 'I.S.O.' which appears in the ads every now and then, about Cody the tiger dealing with being gay. Also starring a silly wolf fellow who talks like Steve Irwin.

Castle Hill Show is coming up
Posted 13 years agoI logged back in here after a while. :)
Please don't anyone ask me to make you any custom anythings, because I will probably get all ZOMG FA IS FULL OF WORK! and run away again, because I am a bit useless like that these days.
If you're in Sydney, I have a stall in the Federation Pavillion at the Castle Hill Show next weekend (16th-18th March).
I will definitely be selling:
*Patterpillars
* Whatever I've got left of my printed t-shirts
I willl hopefully be selling:
* Paper patterns for Build-a-Beasties, along with some instructions, so you can use them to make your own stuffed animals.
This is contingent on me gettting the necessary work done in time. I don't actually need to make money off fuzzy things any more, so I might as well share the love. Will probably upload something here for people to play with, too, when I get around to it.

Look, some new things!
Posted 15 years agoI drew and coloured some new ACEOs. :)
I don't much like how they scanned, but everyone always says that, so I'm not sure if they *are* rubbish scans of if I just think they are.
Anyway, I bought some card sleeve thingies the other day (that hold 9 cards per A4 page) so I'm going to make a collection of cards and then maybe put them in the art show at MiDFur if I get enough.

State of the rah
Posted 15 years agoBeen offline due to internet silliness and other goings-on.
Tomorrow I start my usual 9-5 school holiday job, which runs for the entire fortnight, so if you try to contact me and don't hear anything for a while, I was probably too tired to turn on the computer!
Hopefully some time this week I will also hear whether I got a trainee job with a captioning service that I had the interview for on Monday. They seemed to like me. If I get that, I'll be training throughout the rest of July and August.
In September I have to go to Melbourne for Aussiecon 4, then mind my parents' house again, hopefully taking the job along with me (it's a work-from-home setup after the training).
So CRE'ATURES might become a weekend sort of thing, but at least I'll be able to afford all the things I need to buy for it and pay the rent too!

(un)Lucky Cthulhu pre-orders now available!
Posted 15 years agoMy (un)Lucky Cthulhu soft toy sewing kits are nearly ready to go! I just have to finish off the instruction manuals and wait for the bells I ordered to arrive.
Visit their page and have a look: http://users.tpg.com.au/fuzznrah/cthulhu.html
I've already got one pre-order, but I need more! I've been busy with product development, and my usual work has been off for a couple of weeks, so as a result, the budget's starting to get tight! I can't make more Cthulhus if I can't afford to buy the materials, now can I?
Think about pre-ordering a Cthulhu, if he takes your fancy. Or a Build-a-Beastie. Otherwise, maybe an eep or two: http://users.tpg.com.au/fuzznrah/eeps.html . And I know there are many many people out there, especially those with relatives under the age of thirteen, who DON'T HAVE A PATTERPILLAR YET! :O
http://users.tpg.com.au/fuzznrah/pa.....erpillars.html
This patterpillar ownership crisis is a shocking state of affairs, and you definitely should take steps to rectify it. It's not a big decision - even if you live on the other side of the world, I can post you three or four patterpillars for only $2.10. :)

More Furbuy auctions
Posted 15 years agoThe ready-made originals I put on Furbuy the other week all went to good homes, so this week I've got some commissions for you:
An ACEO, a custom-painted figurine and an A4-sized rude picture. :)

Hello!
Posted 15 years agoHi, new people, thanks for watching. :)
I'm working on eeps at the moment, though I haven't photographed them yet.
Today I made: spider, bat, panda, german shepherd, male lion, standard dragon (not sure about his schnoz, as it looks like a beak) and one I like to call a "black lightning" dragon.
When I get them finally sorted out, the kits will be $8-12 and ready-made ones will be $16-22.
Thinking about videos - the first one I need to make will be a "Basics of Fur Fabric Wrangling" with an intro to the materials I use, and a tutorial on How To Use A Needle And Thread, because honest to gods, people, it's not that hard.

Wot I'm working on
Posted 15 years agoSo on Saturday there's a Sydney meeting thingy in the city that
fuzzyball is going to, because he's been socialising with lots of peeps. And I am going along in case anyone wants to buy patterpillars and see my sample build-a-beasties.
I think I'm going to have to make some videos showing how to sew eeps and stars, as I'm not satisfied with the instructions I managed to cram on to the A4 sheet that comes with them. It needs Moar Diagrams, but diagrams take up space, and take ages to draw.
The next problem is - where in the house should I film them? I could use the back deck on a sunny day, but the neighbours will probably come home and yell at their kids and mess up the sound. The spare room has lots of light in the afternoon, as its window faces west, but it is currently overflowing with junk. Maybe that will make me tidy it.

Originals auction on Furbuy
Posted 15 years agoOkay, here are some auctions! http://www.furbuy.com/seller/rahball.html
There are the two hyena pr0n pics, plus the cute ACEO of the smilodon.
Might upload some more things if people seem interested, or you can ask me about them here. I tried to photograph a whole lot of things to sell, but they all came out blurry!

Originals for sale!
Posted 15 years agoI'm going to try selling the originals of my more popular recent rude pieces:
"Sisters are doin' it for themselves" (lioness F / hyena true-to-nature-F): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3283445/
"She and he in the bush" (M/true-to-nature-F hyenas): true-to-nature-F
plus "Pouncey lynx" (M): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3348962/
And maybe the rest of the ACEO cards I did in December. Dunno if I should put them on Furbuy, or try ebay.

Blehh!!
Posted 15 years agoI'ma totally designing a Lucky Cthulhu for Supanova this year!
Most of the toy ones will be kits, because I still hate sewing, but I might make a few to flog off at some exorbitant price. Plus I'll do up a bunch of little polyurethane figurine ones for those who OMG must have a ready-made thing to buy.

O hai
Posted 15 years agoThe other half has been super-active on here since MiDFur, so I'm starting to feel like I'm letting the side down!
I escaped from my annoying petrol station job at the start of the year, which immediately meant I no longer had spare money to spend on advertising. I've been selling patterpillars at various events, the most recent being Brisbane Supanova. But I haven't been to anything in the last few weeks, what with moving house, working for Plaster Fun House again, flogging stuff on Ebay and general laziness.
New house is great, as it's an actual house, with three whole bedrooms and its own garden, for the same rent as the two-bedroom unit we were in before. I think there are as many people living in our whole street as were in our single unit block. Nyehehe. Rent houses from your family members, people (provided they're not loonies)! It is very economical.
We had a cool car that ran on fish and chip oil, but it died due to being old and dodgy, so we sold its carcass on Ebay to a mechanic who is going to fix it up for himself and got another one, which is a bit younger and healthier and runs on LPG.
At some point I might get around to updating my comics again. In the meantime, there may be more rude pictures of rude things.

Ready-made Build-a-Beasties now available!
Posted 15 years agoI made six Build-a-Beastie kits for the fair on the weekend, but I didn't sell any, which means I still have them, and they're looking for homes!
And the really good news is that because I've now done their instruction manuals, I can make them cheaper - only $35 each.
You can also have a $35 custom one if you can make it just by changing the colours on one of these existing models because (again) it means I can send you an existing instruction manual instead of fussing about taking a bunch of new photos.
Go here and see them! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?a.....d=258185464975 (and friend that page while you're there).

Texan Jackalope Fuzzball!
Posted 15 years agoI just saw the ad for Furry Fiesta in the banner rotation, and it has a fuzzball in it! :D
Officially, it appears to be a Jackafluffy. http://www.furryfiesta.org/whatisajackafluffy
Very cute! It's way too late to send them a toy one for their art show, alas.

New commission concepts
Posted 15 years agoSo I've been poking around on Furbuy and noticed people selling some interesting new sorts of commissions.
There's the "art slave for a [time period]", where the artist undertakes to produce a certain number of artworks for the commissioner (eg. one a week, three a month).
The comic commission (okay, these have been around forever), but there's one up there at the moment with some good constraints on it (max of four pages and 3 characters)
Oh, and people fill up their journals with "100 $10 sketches" and suchlike. There seems to be something about the slot format that makes people go "omg, must grab one!", whereas with open-ended commission offers they're all "yeah, maybe one day"
I wonder if I should try either of these. There's no doubt that I can make comics, and I have made comics from other people's scripts in the past, but it can be troublesome if the writer has no experience of the medium (eg. there's a limit to the amount of text that can fit in a panel). I need to auction off not just my ability to draw speech bubbles, but my creative expertise, so that the customer brings the concept and the characters, and I help them shape it into something special(-er).
This is similar to the Build-a-Beastie concept, where people's ideas have to be filtered through my knowledge of how you actually make a stuffed toy. Maybe it could work. Comment if you have any thoughts.
...
So yes, meanwhile I'm selling:
Ink and graphite drawings for AU$11 (see previous journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1179894/)
Build-a-Beastie custom soft toy kits, cute paintable sculptures and patterpillars (http://www.patterpillarshop.com/)
T-shirts, comic books, coloured drawings (http://pantheon.comicgenesis.com/shop.html)

Comment here or note if you want one. Don't forget reference pics and instructions on what they should be doing!
