General | Posted 11 years agoSo, holy shit, I'm going to ANE this week! Latest I've ever done a con meme, but oh well. Sup furries.
For a lot of you this is going to be your first con. And you're going to be wanting to go damn hard, right? Well fucking give this a good read and you will have a god damned good convention.
1) Holy shit. You suck at drinking. You might think you're okay at it, but you aren't. And you are going to be surrounded by seasoned party veterans. Don't try and keep up with the vets. Your tolerances aren't at our level. Drink to your own comfort level. If you feel yourself being too drunk, fucking STOP DRINKING and get some water in you. Don't let a story get around about you puking and passing out somewhere. If you are massively hung over, you will be missing a LOT of stuff the next day. Drink LOTS of water before bed. Chug that shit.
2) God damn, don't you think you're a sexy mother fucker? Well you might damn well be... but not everyone is going to be receptive to your advances. Learn the game and learn how to take NO as an answer. Don't make us uncomfortable bro, we're counting on you. If you decide you want to get down and find a partner, USE PROTECTION. Anyone that's willing to 'yiff' with you right off the bat has likely done the same thing to a tonne of people. Don't give yourself an awkward doctor's visit.
3) Fucking hell, drugs are bad okay? But if you really decide to do them don't be super fucked up in public and try to keep it on a down low. You are creating a very fucking awkward situation for the con staff and if you have a medical emergency you might bring some serious bad press to the con.
4) Bring a pair of swim shorts. There's a heated pool.... Fuck.
5) Sleep management is key to a good con experience. The parties run late and the events run all day. Are you planning to do all the con shit during the day and the dances all night? Fuck son, you better get a nap in the afternoon. Don't pull an all nighter, you will regret it.
6) Fucker, don't leave your room a huge mess for the housekeepers to clean up. It's rude. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you're allowed to be a bitch. And at the start of each day? Leave a TIP on the pillow.
7) Cool Get some extra fucking towels. Go to the front desk and do it. They give you enough towels for 2 peeps but you fucking furries are stacking 4+ deep. And you know what you do with those fucking towels? You take a motherfucking SHOWER. At LEAST once a day. I personally take like 3 or more because shower beers are fucking rad. Bring some shampoo and soap with you, the hotel will not supply enough.
8) Be fucking nice to the hotel and con staff. They are the reason we even have a convention.

MFF 2014 Recap!
General | Posted 11 years agoAs always, I'm doing this kinda late. MFF was year was fucking amazing, though. Once again, it reminded me why this is the best con in the world and hands down my favorite. I don't even know where to start, because there were just so many highlights.
I got to hang out and spend time with so many friends. I won't bother to name names, because there's way too many of you, and I'm thankful that I even know this many people, let alone that I'm able to call so many of them my friends and spend time with them. Particularly, the dancer furs, though. You guys are always awesome and everytime I get to hang with you guys, it always feel closer to you. :3
I got to wear and dance in four different fursuits, in addition to Valentine. I'm still shocked and so grateful that I was given the opportunity to do so. I got to wear Storm Tiger, DekeShep, Disturbia, and Snuggle Bunny, all of which made for the most fursuiting I've done in a long time.
One of the biggest highlights was getting to DJ this year, on Friday night. It was easily one of the biggest sets I've ever played to date (perhaps THE biggest), and I still can't thank
Tekfox enough for picking me. By the end, I had so many people dancing on stage with me, it was crazy. It's always an honor and a privilage to DJ live, every time, and it never gets old. I'm always amazed and humbled at the amount of people who come to the dances during my set, especially those who come to support me specifically. You guys...seriously do not know how much it means to me to have so many people come to hear me play.
The whole reason I got into DJing was because I love music, I love dancing, and I wanted to share that with people. Some of the most fun I have at cons is going to the dances, because I love the environment, I love the mutual energy between everyone on the dance floor as the DJ takes them on a journey with their music. I just love getting lost in that music. And I wanted to do that. I wanted to do for others what so many DJs did for me when I go to the dances. And the fact I've gotten to do so at four of the fandom's biggest cons in a single year, for a full crowd each time is...just...I don't have any words that can accurately describe how amazing that is, or how incredible it's been.
Here's my set from the con. :3 http://www.mixcloud.com/DJVally/fin.....e-at-mff-2014/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov6ii-RGAc8
And it wasn't just me. So many other DJs killed it at the dances as well. These might actually have been the best dances I've ever been to, because I had so much fun, every night. Again, huge thanks goes to Tekfox for putting together such an awesome line up, as well as the A/V guys for all the work they did.
Moving on, I also stayed at MFF for like a week, and spent Tuesday with the local Chicago furs just like last year, though this time I stayed with Snuggle Bunny, Ravell, and Darkou, which resulted in an awesome night. :3 And aside from the incident on Saturday night, and losing my wallet, I didn't have any real negatives this con. Crazy, but MFF is just that good. I had a whole LOT more deep dish pizza this time, too, haha. This is the only con I actually spend a week at, too, because it's worth it. Even now as I write this, I miss everyone so much, and I can't wait to go back next year. :)

Laaaaaaaate RF 2014 Recap
General | Posted 11 years agoI know this is waaaay late, but I've been hella busy since coming back from RF, so sorry about that. XD
This was my third Rainfurrest in a row, and I have to say, this one was by far the best one. This might've actually been my best con ever, no joke. It's right up there with MFF from last year. I had such an amazing time, got to hang out and reconnect with just about every one of my friends that I wanted to see, even though who I hadn't seen since last year's RF.
The dances were AMAZING. So many DJs brought their A-game this year and I danced my ass off. I also got to wear
storm-tiger's fursuit on Saturday night, and that was soooo much fun. :D You have no idea how exciting it is to go around surprising people who don't know it's you. I also got to dance with some of my favorite fursuiters, and that felt like a long time coming. I actually battled Ticer and we started a dance circle, which was so much fun. I never thought I'd see the day where he actually complimented my dancing, and..I'm still kind of shocked about that. :)
One of the biggest highlights for me this year was DJing and playing mainstage Friday night where I played a tag set with
Thumper. They wanted to change it up this year, so instead of
Akonite and Thumper tagging like they usually do, Akonite tagged with Bloodwiser, while I tagged with Thumper. I have to admit, this was my first time tagging with someone, and I was...nervous to say the least. But it went pretty well! We had a huge crowd, and so many of my friends actually came to support us, which I'm always I had the time of my life that night, and it's definitely going down as one of my favorite experiences DJing live. There's very few DJs I would even feel comfortable tagging with, but Thumper is the guy who set me on the correct path when I tried getting into this. I can't thank him enough for being so patient and accomodating with me, and I learned a great deal that I probably wouldn't have learned otherwise. And while I still prefer DJing solo, I really do think tagging is a unique experience that everyone should try at least once. Also,
Raket wore Valentine for our set, which was also pretty cool. :)
Another highlight for me was the fursuit dance competition. This was my 8th dance competition, and my third time performing for RF's. I'm pretty happy with how it came out; It wasn't perfect, but I think it really lives up to what I did at FWA earlier this year. And it's the most locking I've done in a performance. I'm trying to make locking my main style, so I'm happy I got to show it off as much as I did here. Plus, hearing such positive feedback from Doryuu really, really made my night and his comments about my locking made me feel...validated, like it was the right decision to try making this my main style. I think, placements aside, this was one of the best dance competitions performance-wise, because so many performances were just incredible. And of course, that light show. :3
So yeah, RF was amazing. I continue to be blown away by this con everytime that I attend. Now I'm just prepping myself for MFF. :)

AC 2014 Recap!
General | Posted 11 years agoWow. I don't even know where start with this con. This is a con I've been dying to go to for the past two years, and finally having gone is just...hard to put into words, haha.
I got there Wednesday night, and was immediately overwhelmed when I set foot inside the Westin hotel. Took me a little while to finally adjust to the fact that I was finally in the hotel I'd only ever seen in videos. It didn't take me long to meet up with my friends and get dinner. So I got a taste of the city fairly quickly.
Thursday was spent reuniting with a TON of friends I hadn't seen in a while. A lot of my west coast friends didn't come to AC this year, so that gave me the chance to see friends I only ever see at east coast cons, and God, it was amazing to see these guys again.
And of course, this was the night of my set, which I was immensely excited for. This was Anthrocon, where the biggest and best dances take place, so playing here, only after having played at two other cons, was a tremendous honor. And it was going to be the same line up as FWA's Friday night; Firr, then me, then Skroy. I felt like this was going to be the biggest night of my life. The first time I set foot in that main ballroom, I was just amazed. Amazed that I'd made to this con, amazed that I was standing in this room, amazed that I would be playing here. Soundcheck was cool, because it allowed me and
skroy to rehearse for his keytar solo for the one of the songs I'd be playing. Fast forward to later that night when the dances actually took place. Due to a last minute change, DJ EAR (
huepow00 played instead of Firr, and I was really glad he went on, because EAR's also one of my favorite DJs, and one I have a ton of respect for. I loved his reaction when I showed him three tracks in my setlist that I'd be playing, all taken from his amazing set at FC earlier this year. I hung around for his set, just surveying the crowd, nervous as fuck. Seriously, I'd never been more nervous for a set; it was almost the same feeling of anxiety I get when I go out on stage for a fursuit dance competition. But it was multiplied here, because I'd never had a crowd like this. Skroy and others gave me a lot of encouraging words, though. :)
So then, it was my turn to go on. Protocollie literally stood up on top of the DJ table to announce me, haha. That pumped me up. Then I just...played. And I can't even describe how I felt for the next hour. The crowd was mine, the stage was mine, the ballroom was mine, and I threw down the hardest set of my life. And then all of a sudden, a TON of my friends showed up.
toayk,
flipsta_lombax and
strobes all joined me on stage and we owned that shit. But not just them. Soon enough,
Galefrostbane,
skyryd3r,
tyfusky,
atsufawx,
Euchre, Vince,
JDPuppy, Skroy,
Reccasenli,
WolfPupTK
humphreye45, Kalypso, Neokai, Sadie and others all joined me on stage, and we went fucking crazy. And just as I hoped, Skroy's keytar solo when I played that Apollo remix was a huge surprise, and people loved it. It was great. :3 I honestly, can't put into words how wonderful it was to have all of these people on stage with me while playing to the biggest crowd of my life. It was the best feeling ever, one of the best nights I've ever had. And it went by so fast. It didn't feel like an hour at all. And then Skroy went on, and as I expected, he absolutely blew the stage apart. As I said earlier, this was my second time in a row opening for Skroy, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I think we have wonderful chemistry with our combined stage presence, and our styles really compliment each other.
Humphrey was actually going to wear Valentine during my set, but I couldn't the body zipper working properly, so he didn't get to wear it unfortunately. :( I actually had to ask Gale to help me fix the zipper during Skroy's set, and she did fix it thankfully. So I wore Valentine myself for the last of Skroy's set, and I went hard as hell on stage with everyone. Playing a huge set, and then dancing in fursuit afterwards...you have no idea how fucking tired I was afterwards. I was so exhausted, I had to ask someone to help me carry my action packer back to my room.
Friday was pretty cool. I spent more time with friends, explored the convention center more, did the prelims for the fursuit dance competition, which I'd been pretty nervous and anxious about for months. And it was pretty grueling, too. Probably the toughest prelims I've gone through so far. I was originally in the novice category, but I was moved to the veteran category. And I made it. It came down to the very last round, it was me, Kwik and Bemani. Just the three of us. When we stopped onto that floor, I immediately pulled the two of them into a group hug. I felt this was necessary. Solidarity, support, sportsmanship, because we were all competing for a limited number of slots. But we supported each other and wished each other good luck. Because at the end of this, we're all still a family and while we try our best, we all still root for each other. It was tough. Me and Kwik got in. However, after injuring herself later on, Kwik decided to sit out of the competition, and Bemani got to compete after all.
And then, I felt amazing. I felt like I'd accomplished something, felt like I achieved one of my most sought-after goals. I'd made it into Anthrocon's fursuit dance competition. I'd been dreaming, wishing, hoping for two years for the chance to perform at this con, on this stage, for this fursuit dance competition. And I'd just overcome the biggest obstacle standing in my way. And after DJing the previous night, I felt like I was on top of the world.
Then, I immediately ran to the convention center to make it in time for the dances, because I refused to have a repeat of MFF last year, where I was just way too tired to be at the dances after wearing myself out, which caused me to miss Recca's set, because I left the dances early. Fuck that, I was not gonna have that happen here. Especially because fucking
akonite was gonna be playing first, and he's my favorite DJ. There was no way I was gonna miss that. So I waited until the dances started, late, and I was fucking there. One of the first ones inside that ballroom, and I rocked the dance floor as Akonite played. But, of course, then I jumped on stage with Fayroe, and danced my ass off. I never get tired of that. Dancing on that stage, in fursuit, for my favorite DJ's set was one of the best things ever. But this was a night where several of my favorite DJs were all playing, so I also stayed for Oddy and Recca's sets as well. And they were crazy. A bunch of other people came on stage for Recca's set as well.
Something I'd like to note here: I'm really glad to see that a lot of the DJ community is starting support each other, very much in the same way that the dancers support each other. There was a specific moment that night where me and Skroy (both in our fursuits) came on stage during Recca's set, and...there's just such a wonderful dynamic here; that the DJs from the previous night can come on stage and support the DJs the following night. I think that's such a wonderful thing, and I'd love to see more of that at cons. DJs should support each other, because in the end, we all have the same goal; to take the crowd on a journey with our music.
I was there for a bit of Genki's set as well, but I was way too tired at that point, so I did finally leave the dance then.
Saturday was more social stuff. And Floor Wars. I didn't end up competing in Floor Wars, because me and Toay were waitlisted, and Toay forgot it was happening and arrived too late after our team was called. Plus, he was also injured. So we weren't able to compete. It's okay, though. I was fine with not competiting in Floor Wars. My main focus dancing-wise was the fursuit dance competition. Watching others compete was awesome, though. So many people blew me away and performed beautifully.
Later that night, I had a lot of feels talks with other dancers about anxiety I had concerning the dance competition the next day. About the fact that I'd finally be performing on the stage that I dreamed of. And there were a lot of emotions going around, some tears even. But again, that's that dancer fur community for you. So much support and solidarity from everyone, from people who'd seen me dance, who'd watched me over the years, who believed in me. That was quite an emotional night.
The rest of the night was cool, and I eventually made it down to the dances. This was one of the rare times where I decided not to hit up the whole dance, because I wanted to be well rested for the dance competition the next day. But I still wanted to have fun, so I made it down for the last set of the night. Oh Danger dropped some crazy drum and bass and I rocked out on that dance floor with Storm Tiger in his new sexy fursuit.
Sunday. Finally. The fursuit dance competition. I spent a good while nervous as hell leading up to the competition itself. Because I'd finally made it, finally gotten to this point that I'd been hoping for. And being backstage with all the other dancers once again gave me that feeling of solidarity, family, and support that I get from every dance competition, but I especially felt it here. And once I got up there, on that stage, when the music hit...I just did it. I danced my heart out and had a great time. So, again. I did it. I made it. I lived the dream, conquered my goal, and had a wonderful time.
Here's the video of my performance https://youtu.be/h36Z6ki0Hk8
And afterwards, the dancer furs did what is tradition by going out to dinner at this wonderful Chinese buffet. And it was pretty special. The organizers all gave speeches, there were many feels, tears, emotions, it was a great time and a great dinner. Later we got back to the hotel, and I had more fun.
Later that night, I was actually in a bit of a rut, which is the main reason I wasn't at the dance cypher in the zoo. I heard it was fun, though. I managed to end that night on a good note, though. :)
Then Monday morning, I had to leave. And this was the earliest I've ever left from a con. I was up and ready to go at 9 AM, extremely sad that I had to leave so early. It was hard, I obviously didn't get to say goodbye to all my friends and the people who meant so much to me and helped shape my con experience.
But yeah, so Anthrocon 2014. I can honestly say it was one of my best cons to date. I know AC gets a lot of flak for being too big and being hard to meet up with your friends, and to an extent, that's true, but I had an amazing time. I lived the dream, achieved my goals, and still got to hang out with a load of my friends every day of the con. :) So yeah...my first AC. It was an amazing ride.

FWA DJ set!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo, as many of you know, I got to DJ at FWA this year! It was an amazing night, with incredibly wonderful crowd. Check out my set right here - http://www.mixcloud.com/DJVally/atl.....e-at-fwa-2014/
It's crazy as hell and probably the best set I've done thus far. Even better than my RF mix. I certainly feel so. So, go ahead and give it a listen!

FWA 2014 RECAAAAAAP!
General | Posted 11 years agoHoooooly shit! I don't even know where to begin with how fucking amazing FWA was this year! From the moment I arrived Thursday morning, it was just a ton of fun. And special thanks to
ebonywolf99 for once again taking me to and from the airport again.
First off, of course FWA was in the same hotel as last year, The Westin. However, the elevators were MUCH BETTER this year. There was a still a bit of a wait sometimes, but was seriously like night and day compared to last year. Beyond that, I didn't really have any issues at all! I actually became a little more fond of Atlanta, too. I really enjoyed seeing so many of my east coast friends again; friends I only ever get to see at FWA and MFF. Especially since a lot of my west coast friends didn't make it this time around.
Now, highlights. Oh my God, again, where do I even start. Probably the biggest thing for me was that I DJed Friday night at midnight. My set was right after Firr, and I was actually freaking out beforehand, because I couldn't find the AC adaptor for my laptop, haha. But it was right beside me. XD The crowd during Firr's set was fucking crazy, and I've always looked up to that guy as a DJ, not only because of his mixing, but because he does so many things that most other DJs don't do. The guy knows how to work a crowd.
And then...I went on. This was only my second time DJing at a con, and I fucking blew the place apart. For one hour, I had the time of my life playing on that stage, and I had the most amazing crowd any DJ could ask for. It was also the biggest crowd I've played for thus far, and easily the best set I've ever done. It was just me and them as I took them on a journey with my music. It really is the greatest feeling in the world. It shocked me just how many people were also watching the livestream as well. I had people cheering me on who weren't even at the con. I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am for that. One of the best moments was when Oddy came running on stage, losing his fucking mind when I dropped that Combo Breaker mashup, haha. I think the greatest moment of that night was when I played my last song, though. When I dropped Language, it felt like I was one with the audience. I wanted to recreate that feeling that Akonite did when he played Language at the end of his tag set with Thumper at Rainfurrest last year. And I think I did. :) Honestly. I have NEVER felt better as a DJ.
Also, if you saw Valentine running around during my set, that obviously wasn't me. :P That was
trackfox wearing Valentine. :3
And then, staying on stage after to support both
Skroy and
Rawkz0rz was amazing. This is the second time in a row I've seen Skroy DJ and, again, I was just blown away.
So yeah, Friday night was definitely one of my best nights at a con.
Another notable thing was the music video I shot with Kiba. We shot this over the course of two days, and I was really happy to do that. Kiba is amazing with a camera and one of the best videographers I've ever seen. To me, he's the next Revit.
Next, Floor Wars. Now this was amazing. I was at Floor Wars at FWA last year, and I didn't compete, but everyone knows how amazing that was. And then I actually competed in Floor Wars at MFF, and that was a lot of fun. Probably still the best Floor Wars to date. I competed in this one, and it was a ton of fun, really invigorating. Really pushed me as a dancer, and I'd love to do it again.
Now, the big one. The Fursuit Dance Competition. A lot of people know I was on the fence about doing FWA's dance comp this year, because I didn't get in last year. And it was pretty hard on me. Even though I'd grown tremendously as a dancer in the year since then, I had wonder if I was good enough to get in this time. So, I did the prelims, and I was extremely happy to get in.
When it came to the actual dance competition itself, I was extremely nervous. My heart was beating like crazy. This is not only one of the best dance competitions, FWA was the very first fur con to host a fursuit dance competition. So it's important, it's history. At least to me.
And I went out there and...killed it. I was really happy with my dance and it was probably the best dance I've done up to this point. What I didn't expect to was to get an honorable mention (along with Buddy/JD Puppy)! I was honestly shocked at that. I never expect to place in dance competitions, because it's always the furthest thing from my mind, but I'm very happy and humbled that the judges thought I was good enough to warrant an honorable mention along with Buddy. People keep telling me that my dance was good enough that I could've placed in the top 3, and I don't even know what to say to that, haha. But I'm glad people liked my dance.
And speaking of the dance competition...I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in some of the commentary that I saw on Twitter. I was honestly shocked at some of the stuff people were saying. First of all, I wanna go on record and say that the dance competition's MC made some comments that were probably in bad taste. I'm not going to deny that for a second. Even when I was backstage, I was like "whoooooaaaaa, he probably shouldn't have said that." But I DID NOT expect people to freak out about it as much as they did. I really feel like everyone blew it out of proportion. The MC made the comment in jest, as a joke. He wasn't being serious. He did not ACTUALLY mean that people "suck". Again, he was in poor taste for saying what he said, but I feel like the some of the comments on Twitter were EQUALLY in poor taste. It made me sad as hell, because he actually is a very nice guy.
Most of you probably don't even know this, but that guy has actually been hosting FWA's dance competition longer than SOME of you have been DANCING. Seriously. He's been hosting it from the very beginning. That guy has been one of the biggest advocates for the dancer furs and most of you don't even fucking realize it. He's just as excited and enthusiastic about the fursuit dance competition as any of us dancers are. He, and the entire A/V staff bust their asses to put on this crazy event, and I feel like so many people just...take it for granted. Being staff at a fur con is such a stressful, thankless job, and they put in so much more work than you realize, at their own expense, all so WE can have a good fucking show. And furthermore, that guy is not just the MC/Host of the dance competition; he's ACTUALLY the main theatre/main events coordinator. He coordinates/approves EVERYTHING that happens in the main theatre.
Without his approval -- THERE IS NO FURSUIT DANCE COMPETITION.
THERE IS NO FLOOR WARS.
THERE ARE NO DANCES.
Even Oddy, the dance/DJ coordinator has to get things approved by HIM.
And I get it. Just because someone has been in a position of authority doesn't necessarily mean they're cut out for something as specific and unique as MCing. But again, he's been doing it for years. And I think he's been pretty great at it, thus far. He's probably my favorite MC out of all the dance competitions. So please, please, please don't hate him. :( He made one bad comment in poor taste. Please don't vilify him for it.
Beyond that, I know there was also a lot of salt about the placements, which I totally understand. I get it. We're all opinionated here (especially me). I'm still surprised myself that I even got an honorable mention especially because I think Buddy's performance was a little better than mine. XD But the more I see people blasting their opinions over a public forum like Twitter, the more I think it's kind of a bad idea. Simply put, blasting your opinions about the dance comp placements over a public forum like Twitter (especially right after the dance competition) is incredibly disrespectful to the dancers who actually got those placements. Whether or not you agree with the top 3 placements, it's all subjective, and EVERYONE has a right to their opinion, but you do so many people a disservice when you say that stuff in public. Because you can and probably WILL make those dancers feel like shit, if they happen to see your comments on Twitter. Because, again, it's a public forum.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, I'm really not. Again, EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion(s). I'm just saying, all of these comments and opinions would be much better suited to private conversations, not a huge public space like Twitter, where everyone (including the dancers who actually placed in the top 3) can see those comments.
And beyond that...what more can I say? FWA this year was incredible. So much better than last year, and even though a lot of my friends didn't come this year, I still had an amazing time. I met so many new people, made a ton of new friends, so much so that there's far too many to name. But you know who you are. And you guys fucking MADE my con this year.
I don't think I could've asked for a better FWA than what I got. :) And I really, really look forward to next year, in the Marriott. Seriously, that new hotel is FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, and to me, it's matched only by MFF's hotel. Yeah, I said that. It might even be better than MFF's Hyatt. Me and a couple friends actually explored the new hotel on Sunday, and we were by how beautiful it is. Words, even the pictures on the website don't do it justice. I honestly can't wait to attend. :)

FC 2014 Con Recap!
General | Posted 12 years agoMan, I don't even know where to start...
FC was amazing this year. This was my 4th FC in a row, and it always feels good to go back to my home con, especially after the crazy time I had last year going to so many cons. FC 2013 last year had been my best con experience to date until MFF that same year. FC was absolutely perfect for me last year, so FC this year had a lot to live up to. And indeed, FC 2014 was amazing this year. I got to hang out with a lot of my friends, deepen some long-standing friendships, dance like crazy, and even film my second dance video.
The dances were special this year. In all my years of attending Further Confusion, I've never seen a crowd as big as there was at
skroy's set. That was by far the biggest crowd I'd ever seen for any dance at FC, ever. And then to have
Rawkz0rz on right after that was just...incredible. That's just perfect scheduling. And that's not even counting
Thumper, who played THE BEST FUCKING SET I've ever heard from him. As one of my top favorite DJs, I've listened to...literally every mix Thumper has posted since his RF 2011 mix, and I make no exaggeration when I say this set he played at FC was hands down his best solo set to date. At least that I've heard. I kept hoping he'd drop one of my favorite songs, and when he did...I lost my fucking mind on stage. And even still, that's in addition to absolutely stellar sets that
huepow00,
Stormhusky,
Croc, and
Genki all put on. Or the absolutely epic tag set that
reccasenli and
TekFox had on Sunday night. Oh my God, I don't even know what to say.
So yeah, these were the best dances Further Confusion has...ever had. Like, really. Really have to hand it to
djwolf for his amazing programming. Even though I didn't get to DJ at the con myself, I was extremely happy for that I got to dance as much as I did. And holy shit, there was a lot of dirty dancing, too, and you guys knoooooow I love my dirty dancing. >:3
I can certainly say I'll never get drunk before a dance again, though. Yeah, there's a story behind that. I was at
acefox27's party sometime before the dances, and I'd only had about two cups of Rum and Coke (which I mixed myself), and a couple sips of hard cider. I shouldn't have been as drunk as I was...but I was REALLY fucking drunk after that, and I was still in fursuit. So...I had to have about three handlers for a bit and they took me to the Headless Lounge, where I just hung out for a while. And sometime after that, I went back to my hotel room. At this point, it's like an hour before TekFox's and Recca's tag set, and I REALLY wanted to be there to support them, since they're two of my favorite DJs, and two DJs who've specifically gone out of their way to help me with my own DJing in the past. And after missing Recca's epic set at MFF (my biggest regret about that con), I was NOT GOING TO MISS THIS.
Unfortunately...I was not all well. I was starting to feel sick from all that alcohol. Now, anybody who knows me, or who has seen me at any of these dances knows I go hard as fuck, and I'm often there from start to finish. And I knew...or was at least afraid...that something bad was probably going to happen if I tried dancing with THAT much alcohol in my system, in fursuit. So, one of my roommates suggested I drink some water/gatorade to feel better. Aaaaaand it didn't work too well. He also suggesting vomitting, which would purge my system of the alcohol, but I really didn't wanna do that. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a choice, since I was still feeling sick. So, I ended up vomitting a good...four times before I finally felt...okay. But my roommate and his buddy looked after me the whole time.
So, by this point, I felt okay to finally go to the dance. And it was 12:30, 30 minutes into Tek and Recca's set. Obviously, I wasn't too happy about that, but I still had plenty of time. So I headed over to the dance, to find Tek and Recca playing their tag set to a HUGE crowd. I was excited and ready to get on that stage. But when I did, I wasn't able to dance anywhere near like I normally am. It wasn't too long before I was backstage taking a break. Turns out I still had alcohol in my system, and I was pretty easily worn out. I don't know if I was overheating ot dehydrated or what, but WolfPupTK started looking after me. And then Dekks looked after me. And then Monk A. And theeeen Apollo. Con staff even called the paramedics on me, cause they were that worried. Apparently. They asked me some questions and made sure I was alright, but Apollo fought for me and took care of me. So I sat and relaxed for a good half hour, drinking tons of water, and just...hung out. And soon enough, after that, I did actually feel better. Legitimately better. And refreshed. I guess that was all I really needed, because I was fucking good after that. And soon enough, I was back on that stage dancing my ass off the way I always am at these dances. It was great. Apollo even took pictures of me on stage.
But yeah, I didn't pass out or anything. I was alright. But I'm still never drinking before a dance again. #Lightweight
Another notable event, as always, was the fursuit dance competition. It was great. But it was particularly special for me, because I performed a routine together with
phorphaux (the other dancing dingo), and we both wore our KLM Science shirts. We'd been planning this for months, and we rehearsed the routine a couple times during the dance comp rehearsals. Aaaand, I don't have any words to accurately describe how much this whole thing meant to me. As a dancer in this community... to be dancing on that stage, right alongside someone I've considered an idol, an inspiration, and a great friend...it was just...I don't even know what to say. I feel like I reached a personal goal. It's always been a dream of mine to see Valentine and Phor dance together (cause they're both dingoes) but to do so wearing our Science shirts, to bounce off each other the way we did...I can't believe it turned out as well as it did. Especially because I'm NOWHERE NEAR as good a dancer as Phor is.
I had this slight worry that I'd look like this...really inexperienced, mediocre dancer alongside this amazing technical dancer. But we actually worked pretty well together. I also think it's some of the best dancing either of us has ever done, especially Phor. That was some of the absolute BEST dancing Phor's done in years. I knew when I put that mix together that he'd dance pretty well to his parts, but I had no idea he'd fucking KILL it as well as he did. I was honestly blown away. I don't like putting people on a pedestal, but he really is one of the best dancers I've ever seen in this community. Half the stuff I do as a dancer is inspired by him, particularly his popping and isolations.
Check out mine and Phor's dance here - https://youtu.be/SuWDR6lQjW0
So yeah, that was a pretty special thing for me. And it was just a showcase; we didn't actually compete. We opened up the dance competition, the same way most dance comps open with some kind of group choreo routine. Charm had us do our routine for the opening instead. And I was pretty okay with that. Believe it or not, it was actually kind of a relief to go out there and NOT compete for once. To just do an exhibition. It takes away so much of the pressure that I feel in most dance competitions.
Aside from that, the dance competition was great, but overall it didn't feel as...special as it did last year. Last year was different, I was in a different mindset, I competed, fucking
dancingduke was there and that feeling of comradery was so, so much stronger last year. It was just...different, more vibrant. But this was still a great year.
Also, last year I set a record of fursuiting 11-13 hours each day, every day. I didn't even come close to that this year. I actually haven't come close to that any any subsequent con since FC 2013, haha. But I did enjoy fursuiting for the time that I did, because I still did it plenty. Also, sooooooo much Hydration, haha. I must've gone there 8 times or something.
But yeah. Overall, FC was fantastic once again, I always love coming back, because it feels like home. Not entirely sure if it was as good as last year (certainly not better than MFF), but the highlights and memories I'll take from this con are ones that will stick with me for a long time. There were so many feels moments, I can't even count them. From the dances, the dance competition, hanging out with my friends, and just having a great time...FC remains one of my favorite cons, and I'll certainly be back next year. :)

2013: The Best Year of my Life
General | Posted 12 years agoIt's true. In the 25 years I've been alive, I've never had more ups, never had so many amazing, wonderful, significant, and memorable experiences as I had in 2013. I'm not even exaggerating; it truly was a spectacular year for me. And it's most definitely thanks to the furry fandom. I don't where I'd be without this crazy community, but you guys been absolutely incredible. I never thought I'd do some of the stuff or have some of the experiences I had, but I've honestly never been happier.
I attended four cons, I fursuited a fuck ton, I danced my ass off, wrote the best story I've written to date, I fell in love, I made a ton of new friends and deepened a lot of current ones, and I played my first live set at a con. Beyond that, I honestly can't believe the amount of support I've gotten as a DJ, especially from other DJs. You guys have not only welcomed me, but gone out of your way to support me and help me grow as quickly as I did, and I honestly can't put into words how much that means to me. If it wasn't for

thumper, I wouldn't be where I am as a DJ. The fact that I got to play my first live set at RF, after not even DJing for a year is an experience that I just...even now I'm overwhelmed from just thinking about it, and the fact that so many DJs came out or stopped by to hear me, again, I don't even know what to say.
But the other thing that perhaps means even more to me, is that I now feel closer to the
dancerfurs than ever. I never thought I'd even dance again, especially not in front of hundreds or even thousands of people. So many of you guys have helped me, given me advice, given me tips, pushed me, encouraged me to never stop dancing, and the experiences I've had with some of you will just...always, always have a special place in my heart. Again, I can't fucking put into words how means these experiences meant to me, especially at FWA and MFF. Specifically

In just one year, I feel like I've had the experiences of a lifetime, and they all went by so quickly, I still can't believe it. I don't care what outsiders think about the dancer fur community; I'm living proof and a perfect example that you guys are absolutely incredible and welcome people with open arms. Even now I still can't believe I got into the fursuit dance competition at MFF; hearing my name called at those prelims still shocks me even today, but I couldn't have done it without the support I had gotten from a lot of you. And I finally managed to walk away from a dance that I was actually happy with. As a dancer, that means everything to me.
2013 went by incredibly fast. It wasn't a perfect year, it certainly had a few lows, but experiences I had, the friendships I forged and solidified wholeheartedly make me feel that this was the best year of my fucking life. Without a doubt. I don't care if it's cheesy, I don't care if it's cliche; it's the truth.
And with that, I absolutely look forward to 2014. Here we go.

Here we go.
My Final Mix of 2013
General | Posted 12 years agoSo, here is my final mix of 2013. Check it out - http://i.mixcloud.com/CF3xFx
This is a culmination of everything I learned from my first year DJing. It's been an incredibly fun ride, and I've learned a great deal and gotten so much support from others, that it's really hard to put into words. I wanted my last mix of the year to really reflect that, to be a celebration almost, of DJing, electronic dance music, and what it means to me, and how thankful I am that people have supported me all through this journey. Thank you all for an amazing first year.
I also have some mixes that I never posted here on FA, here those are as well:
Dingo Spotlight - http://i.mixcloud.com/CESOUI
Canine Control - http://i.mixcloud.com/CDb7J8

MFF 2013 Recap!
General | Posted 12 years agoOh my God. Where do I even begin with this... I think I'm gonna try to keep this one short, haha.
Simply put, MFF is hands down one of the best conventions I've ever been to. From the hotel, the location, the people, the events, every fucking thing about this con is amazing. And I've never felt more alive as a dancer, especially out of suit. This is by far the most I've danced at a furry convention. From the dance competition prelims, the Fursuit Dance Competition itself, Floor Wars, the actual dances/raves, all the fucking dance cyphers. I actually went so hard at the fucking prelims, that I was shockingly too tired to stay at the rave afterwards, which is...very uncharacteristic of me, if you've ever hung out with me at cons. I try to stay at every dance, every night, from start to finish, but Friday, I was just too tired and sweaty after those prelims to stay all the way through the dance.
I certainly made up for that Saturday night, though. I was there for every fucking DJ, like I usually am at the dances, and it was so awesome seeing FOUR of my favorite DJs in a row hit the stage, back to back.
I can absolutely see why everybody loves this con so much.
It was wonderful seeing so many old friends again, some of whom I hadn't seen since FWA, and was surprised not to see at RF. And of course, it was great meeting a ton of people that I've been dying to meet in person.
I really don't wanna name names, because there are WAY too fucking many, especially since this is the biggest con I've been to thus far, but so many of you guys made this con for me. It was so special. I call this Midwest Dance Fest and Midwest Feels Fest for a fucking reason. Now, more than ever, I feel closer to the Dancer Furs, I really do. So many of you guys encouraged me so many times throughout this con, and I was so happy to make it past the prelims into the finals for the dance comp. And for the dance comp itself, I was actually happy with my performance. I didn't hate it for once, haha.
Here's the video of my dance. :)
https://youtu.be/ZM0GE-0W_yM
And as I mentioned earlier, I competed in Floor Wars, too. It was my first time doing so, and I'm also happy with how I did there. Check out that video here:
https://youtu.be/rrGXkIlfwfA
Yeah, it was fun. I think the only complaint I have with the con is that you have to travel to get food. If you don't order pizza or eat in the expensive hotel restaurants. That's really my only complaint. MFF is also really...big. Like, really big, for me, haha. But that's not so much a complaint as just something to...adjust to when going for the first time.
What a wonderful way to wrap up 2013. :) I can definitely say I'm going back next year. :)

RF 2013 Report! Possibly Best Con Ever!
General | Posted 12 years agoOh my God. I don't even know where to start with this. But I've gotta say, RF 2013 might very well be the best con I've ever been to. Possibly. So many wonderful things happened, again, I just don't know where to start. Rainfurrest also finally hit over 2000 attendees this year, as well. 2202, I believe.
First, it was wonderful to finally go to another furry con after FWA all the way back in March. That felt like forever ago, and I didn't necessarily have the best time there, so Rainfurrest was just what I needed. It was wonderful to finally reconnect and hang out with SO MANY people that I've come to call my friends in this crazy furry community. And a great majority of them go to west coast cons like RF and FC. In addition to that, I also feel like I've further solidified a lot of my friendships with people, having spent so much time with them at this con. And that always feels good.
I also fursuited like crazy. I was running around and dancing in Valentine around 8-10 hours each day. No joke, I actually do that. :P And I'm EXTREMELY happy about that, because I didn't get to fursuit anywhere near as much at RF 2012 due to Valentine's vision problem last year. But Fluke fixed it, I haven't had any problems, and I was determined to have as much fun in fursuit as I could to make up for last year. And I made up for that in spades. And being able to hit up certain parties was also preeeeetty fucking cool. :3
And speaking of that...the dances. The dances. Were. Fucking. Amazing. Unbelievable. Best con dances I've ever seen, hands down. I went to almost every dance the con had put on, and I danced harder than I'd ever had in my life, hitting up that stage over and over again. I swear, whoever handles the lighting for the dances needs to be commended, because it was crazy. One of the biggest highlights had to be Saturday night when my two favorite DJs,
akonite and
thumper put on the best tag set I've ever heard from them. I absolutely love hearing these guys play together, as well as hearing them individually, but they seriously blew me away this time around. I was almost in tears when Akonite dropped one of my favorite songs. Made me dance so hard, I could've broken that stage, haha.
Check out the live video of their set from Saturday night:
https://youtu.be/m3CVN3zSM3Q
Also notable was the fact that I DJed my first live set on Sunday night. And this...this was one of my happiest moments at the con. I got there,
thumper helped me set up my gear, as soon as I started playing, the room filled up almost immediately. I was shocked, but happy, yet nervous. But the crowd absolutely loved my songs; I fed off their energy, and they fed off of mine, it was wonderful. And a slew of fellow DJs, including Thumper, Akonite, Nikolai, Recca, Shimi, Tigon, and Rod were there to support me; I was incredibly happy about that. Had a really fun moment when Thumper and Akonite ran on stage and did their crazy DJ antics with me behind the booth, haha.
The only thing that went wrong was that I blew the circuit breakers midway through my set. I was really distraught, cause I didn't expect this kinda thing to happen during my first set, especially when it was going so well. But after a ten minute delay, in which the floor was almost empty again, we got the music back on, and as soon as I jumped into my next song, the floor filled RIGHT up again. I can't tell you how happy I was that people came running back to hear me play. I actually didn't think I'd get to play every song in my set, but the DJ after me was totally cool with it, so I fucking rocked the crowd with the last few songs I had. And after my set was over, I was just floating on air. I had the biggest smile on my face. And since then, I've heard a lot of people say I played one of the best sets at Rainfurrest, which is just...so incredible to hear, especially considering I haven't even been DJing for a full year. I'm absolutely flattered that so many people enjoyed my set. This had to be one of the best times I've ever had at a furry convention, period.
Moving on, I also did the fursuit dance competition again (actually competed this time). There was an unprecedented number of entrees this year. 30 people, I believe. Due to the fact that we didn't have prelims. As for my dance, it was fun, and people seemed to love what I did. Check it out:
https://youtu.be/W_td77l7Zgs
And that's about it! Aside from having some of the best roommates ever, hitting up some woooonderful parties, hanging out and spending time with so many friends, dancing my ass off, and fursuting a ton, this was exactly the convention I needed. :D
I really can't say this enough: hanging out with all those people that I've come to call my friends...it was really something special to me. RF is the con where I MET a lot of these people, so to see them again, right there, it meant so much to me. You all know who you are, and I absolutely love seeing you guys whenever we're at cons together. All of you. There's waaaaay too many names to list, so I'm not even gonna try. But you guys know who you are.
However, despite all the praise, it wasn't all perfect. I actually do have a few complaints:
The biggest thing is that it felt like some of the staff, as well as the security, were on some sort of power trip. Like the Dorsai suddenly showed up and took over. Several incidents happened during the con, but I'm really annoyed with two.
There was only one Headless Lounge this year, as opposed to the two we had last year. I found that...interesting. But the thing that ACTUALLY pissed me off was that some of the staff were being really shitty about the door(s) from the main ballroom that leads directly into the Headless Lounge. Last year, the door was wide open, and you could walk between the lounge and the ballroom easily. This year, the door was closed. I opened it myself and told staff what a necessity it was to have that door open.
There was one point during the dance on Saturday where they wanted to keep the door closed, to keep minors out (cause no security was around to monitor the door), and honestly...I think that's bullshit. When you have fursuiters like me who dance as HARD as I fucking dance, the absolute last thing I wanna do is walk outside the main ballroom and take the LONG way around to get to the Headless Lounge. As opposed to just going backstage and coming in through the door. That is fucking bullshit. In the times I had to do this, I almost fucking fainted. So fine, get someone to monitor that door if you have to, but DO NOT FUCKING CLOSE IT. That really, really pissed me off.
Furthermore, the staff/security continuously shut down many attempts to have a dance cypher outside the main ballroom. And I really don't know why. We had one going on in the con space; it was fun, no one was disturbing us, then staff just comes and shuts it down. This is AFTER the staff crashed the goddamn dance panel just so they could shove a wedding into an ALREADY OCCUPIED room. Fuck that bullshit. I see that there actually were a couple cyphers that I missed, but the ones I was actually at were shut down.
So yeah, stuff like that, really. And this is coming from someone who absolutely had no complaints about the staff at RF last year. Fortunately, no one of this took away from the amazing time I still had, but makes it difficult to compare it to FC earlier this year, where I had absolutely no complaints about anything, the con I'd previously said was my best con, because it literally was perfect this year. But, overall, RF still gave me some of the best times I've ever experienced at a furry convention. So I'm pretty happy. Looking forward to going back next year.
