Because why not?
Posted 11 years agoThings I can do well:
--Talk
--Listen
--Math (NOT meth...)
--Make jokes...especially puns and self-deprecative humor.
--Waste time
--......and other procrastination skills.
Things I...don't quite do so well:
--Shut up
--initiate conversations with people I don't know
--initiate conversations with people I don't know well.
--...initiate conversations with people I see everyday...
[see a pattern?]
--Write. Papers, comments, THIS JOURNAL THING [it was originally going to have actual, you know, structure. Full sentences? What are those?]
--Positive self-image. An odd thing to put here, perhaps. But in all honesty, my faith in myself is unstable at best. While I can safely say I don't whinemuch...I generally don't hold myself in high regard.
--In the same vein...I'm not the best at accepting compliments. Though, this may stem from my belief in "humility over arrogance" because being an egotistic snot is hardly conducive to smooth, harmonious interaction. And it also makes you look like a total douche. MOVING ON...
Informed characteristics (-or- Things People Say I Do.)
--Being a decent human being. Considering it's a trait (and behavior pattern) I pride myself in maintaining...
--Write beautifully. A load of ahem Belabored Speculation. There's aBIG FAT GLOW IN THE DARK fine line between writing and editing. I am good at the latter. My grasp on English grammar is honestly frightening; my ability to deploy said grammar at any given moment is only slightly less so. However, all the literary prowess does no good if you can't coherently put thoughts down on paper.
--Sing well. Personally, I don't see it. If you've ever heard yourself recorded, and thought, "God, is THAT how everyone hears me?!"
...take that and multiply it by about 4000%. That's how much I can't stand it. NEXT...
Other curiousities:
--I've been studying the Japanese language for some seven years now. Recently, I volunteered as an interpreter for a group of Japanese visitors with the Sister City program linking this beloved city with Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. [Note: we're both somewhat famous for our microbreweries...] Somehow, these wonderful native Japanese speakers seemed to think of me as fluent in the language. A handful were shocked to find I hadn't been studying and speaking the language since childhood. I, however, thought (and still think) that I sound like a child at best. As an aside, their more frequent shock was to learn that no, I'm not a sophomore in high school. (Friendly reminder: I'm a senior in university.)
Also, starting a conversation in a foreign language is probably one of the most excruciating situations on this planet. Alongside giving 30-minute presentations.
Now that I've bored you poor readers (and myself), I think I'll bring this hellish experiment to a close. Ciao.
EDIT: I may have made an egregious error in using the phrase "readers"—making the assumption that the number of people looking at this, never mind FINISHING it, will be greater than one. My mistake.
