A moment of silence...
Posted 15 years agoHello all, this is Vera writing.
No one will like what they'll read here, but I cannot sleep and I would have to let you know one time or another, I myself only came to hear of this a few hours ago. RandomOnlooker died sometime in the last two days... I don't know exactly when it happened as he was in another city. We knew that he had a a horrible disease but nothing that would take him so soon, but we still don't know if that had anything to do with this, we will find out soon.
He was so young, kind and helpful...
I'll try to answer any questions you might have. I may not answer any, but I will try, at least for the next few nights, as I doubt that I will be getting any sleep.
I cannot write anything more now, sorry that it is not coherent, but I can barely keep my fingers still, much less think clearly...
His galleries will be temporarily cleared for the most part. I ask that the account not be closed, as I may re-upload the files as well as other recordings that never made it here, in his memory.

Gasp! It's an Anniversary!!!
Posted 15 years agoWoohoo! I'm to excited to keep this to myself, it's early in the morning, I'm about to get on a plane and
go see my beloved Vera after I so carelessly left her to go to China! We're going to rendezvous back in BK
and have the best of times!
And to think that just six months ago I'd never think of writing a journal like this! But you guys are too nice! =D
So, I think I ought to get into a bit of story telling *gathers wood* (six hours later)
Since Vera and I have a very peculiar sort of relationship, this isn't about our kiss!!!
We sort of knew each other from kindergarten, grew up together, studied music in tandem, school, and so on.
Though when I was a kid, the others would always joke around saying, 'you've got a fiancé' and all that
clap trap which we always refused (though, at least for me, I did sometimes fantasize about kissing her, but then
thought it too icky =P). Anyway, I'd call it love at 10,000th sight. When we were thirteen, her parents
(who are anything but normal) organized a little trip. We were supposed to go camping with her father in a forest,
but when we got on the train, a friend of his popped up and said that he had to go with him, as there was 'an important
dinner' for which he should cater personally (her father is an amazing cook! And when I say amazing I mean he's asked
often to be the head chef for international events held in Italy). Anyway, he made us go alone! Heh, we later found out
that it was actually a plot to make us go alone there... Anyway, apart from that oddity, we went on our first solo excursion
together, the train ride and all, a little afraid, I thought I'd burn the forest, it being December and all (who goes camping
in winter!? We were actually on a holiday to New Zealand because we have weird holidays).
And this is where the 'tradition' begins. Each year I choose a load of pieces that make up a musical tale of our time
there and play it to her~ I also compose a thirty minute thing with singing and all, but that's for us alone! =3
So, now I will hand you over to the music: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4890245/
So, we're on the train, all afraid and stuff, though I think we were both secretly thinking that it was going to be fun~ first piece)
Then, we arrived to the National park (GASP! Piece two) and explored with a skip in our step (piece three) and then it got late... So
at full moon we sort of talked and things got a bit more cuddly and comfortable (piece four) and then... >_> (The boogie Woogie!)
That was part one! Then I've also got part two, but that'll come a bit later, like right before I fly off! =D

The Symphonic Piano
Posted 15 years agoAlright! Thank you all for the great suggestions!!! =D
Here is what I will be playing before everything else then~ (In no particular order). Expect uploads of these in future!
Brahms: The Hungarian Dances (a compromise for thefarewelled)
Beethoven: Symphonies 5, 6 (suggested by tytheFox)
Mozart: The Magic Flute Overture and a few airs (same as above)
Ravel: Spanish Rhapsody (a compromise for threetails)
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition (maybe! Suggested by kermodebear)
Liszt: Fantasy and Fugue on BACH (martinidog)
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice (eldiabloz)
Berlioz: Harold in Italy (canary)
You can still name your favourites! Mozart to Ravel, if I know it, I'll probably play it for you. If I don't then... sorry. =P

An Orchestra in a Piano!?
Posted 15 years agoHey all!
I just wanted to let you know that the concerts are going quite wonderfully and that we've raised much more money than expected! (though a large portion of that was from a very generous donor)
Anyway, since I like giving encores and find that sometimes it's better to give something unexpected, I will be doing a few 'bombtastic' piano solos / four hands.
So I was wondering if you'd like to hear orchestral pieces transcribed for the piano (which are something like this)!
I'll play you symphonies, operas, songs (without words), rhapsodies, dances! You name it! From Mozart to Ravel.
If there are any favourites (Beethoven's ninth, anyone?), don't hesitate to throw them here, you could be lucky and I might know how to play them!

Does this make us a furtet?
Posted 15 years agoWell, a lot of you probably know this already, everyone in our quintet now has an FA account!
Now, since I've been here the longest, and the aim of us as musicians is to bring all types of music to the widest audience possible, we have decided to make this a joint account! That means that no matter what the instrument, be it solo flute, cello, voice, duets, trios, quartets, whatever~ You can find it all here!
Apart from that, the account is still mine (they will of course thank you for any comments from their accounts!).
Anyway, here's the crew!
janthejaguar: The most experienced of us all! He's the reason we've managed to get where we are, a huge thanks to him for allowing me to accompany him in some very prestigious music festivals and later our whole troupe! He plays the cello, viola da gamba, sings (as a bass) and he's not too shabby with early brass instruments!
robertrenard: A wonderful violinist (and predecessors), counter-tenor (tenor as well!), flutist of all persuasions (including early double reeds and single reeds) and the only one of us who has any knowledge of video games and cartoons!
clairethecat: A great flutist (with every sort of flute!), violist (as in viola) and alto singer who can reach a soprano register, though with a very 'folkish' tone, which is great for early music.
verathevix: Violinist, soprano, illustrator, psalterist, rebecist, my grand gal! What else can I say? She's insanely versatile in her style of singing, we've been enjoying the pleasures of sound together since we were five and I once went to work in her father's restaurant as a waiter and ended up providing aural entertainment to the customers after a week. =P
Then you have me! I play the guitar, vihuela, 6 to 10 coursed renaissance lutes, the tiorba, the archlute, baroque lute, renaissance and baroque guitars, piano, harpsichord, organ and sing as a bass/baritone in post-renaissance music or as a tenor-like-thing in the gentler renaissance/medieval eras. Talking about guitars, I've let my nails grow back a little, so I will be able to play my guitar a little bit before I decide to cut them to go back to my lutes~ (oh, and that list of mine is big... umm, they're really only two instruments if you think about it!)
Anyway, we'll try to give you all the music possible from the middle ages to the twentieth century! Perhaps inviting a guest musician here and there, who knows!
For now we're going to play in a few concerts (starting next week!) to raise funds for the relief of the tsunami (and no, it's not too late! They still need a lot of help for construction/rehabilitation, food, water, medicine!), not always as a quintet, there are plenty of other musicians who have offered to do this. We'll be going around a few countries performing, hopefully it will all go well!
Right, back to business as usual then!

Back, and my crew has been quintupled!
Posted 15 years agoAh, how grand it is to be back to near normalcy!
Anyway, finally I feel well enough to use a computer and walk around, in fact I've also been allowed to leave the hospital and will do so later today.
So, what's been happening? First of all the surgery went okay and I feel that I can breathe a lot better, though it still hurts quite a bit. I had to be in bed for five days straight, asleep for the first three since any minor infections and harsh movements could have hurt me greatly; the former is still quite true for the next month, so I will have to sleep in the hospital in case anything goes wrong during the night (if anything happened during the day I could always help myself, but yeah...).
Of course something beautiful happened, my dear
verathevix came all the way from Italy to come see me, which was a grand surprise... Of course she, like always, decided to play a joke on me and dressed as a man wearing a fake beard and all. It was rather odd, but way funny! It was almost like that part of the Odyssey where Ulysses is brought on Ithaca's shore asleep and he sees Minerva disguised as a shepherd (yes, a shepherd, not shepherdess), which is also why I uploaded that particular piece to announce my return. Anyway, absolutely glorious feeling having her here! I could never begin to describe how happy I am!
She was not the only one who came to see me (isn't it nice to have friends?); three more grand people came from all over to stay with me. All of them musicians, and they're staying here for a while, so expect some ensemble work! I play the, well you know! My gal sings beautifully and plays the violin like crazy, she's like Gidon Kremer and Emma Kirby all in one, except she doesn't conduct. =/
The other three are respectively a cellist/violist (who can also play the double bass like a beast!), a violinist (who doesn't kid around with the flute!) and a flautist/recorder...ist (who plays the viola wonderfully too!), all of them are early musicians, so yay! We will certainly record a few things together as recently, if you've heard, there has been a catastrophe, another tsunami... We've decided that we will help out and play in a few concerts. OF course we have not had the time to prepare a proper repertoire and everything, so we'll play single movements rather than full sonatas/trios and whatever. We won't stay in one country and arrangements have been made for me to sleep in other hospitals around SE Asia. No rest for the wicked, eh?
Anyway it's absolutely wonderful to be back and even though my state is very uncertain (so if I seem to go quiet for a while, just ask my main gal for information), I cannot wait to get back to music making!
Here you are for now: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4710268/
So what we'll be able to play are:
Piano quintets or less (i.e. piano trios)
String quintets (with me on the cello and the cellist on a double bass) or less
Baroque Trios
Small concertos
Duets of many sorts (Voice and lute, lute and flute, harpsichord and violin, violin and piano, you name it!)
And medieval pieces of every flavour!

Two Farewells and an Adieu
Posted 15 years agoWell! Umm, I don't know how I can go about saying this, but there is a reason for this evening's (or morning's) upload.
Not that I'm leaving! Surely not, I love hold this place to close to my heart for that! But as some of you may know, I've been having some fairly serious problems with my lungs, including a nine week bout of Pneumonia which would never go away definitely. Fortunately I wasn't crippled, I could (and can) still play in concerts even, but any strenuous activity made the vilest fluids come out of my lungs. Obviously no infection of that gravity is supposed to last that long! We did manage to cure it, but it always returned.
Fortunately there was a reason for this! A sort of over-grown bit of lung tissue and some other odd thing due to all that inflammation/coughing and what gave you... Anyway this evening I'm taking some surgery to hopefully heal me of this aliment! Like any surgical operation there is an element of danger involved, and even more so when it's with lungs! So I may be off for a few days, and if not, well, oh well!
You can talk to two people on FA about my status, my dear
verathevix and
gan-g-mann, the latter will have more up to date information because he lives here, the former will say it in a more eloquent way!
So here's to next time and for now,
Farewell and be well!
In the meantime, here you are: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4679969/
EDIT: GONE NO MORE

Shed a Tear for King Lear.
Posted 15 years agoWell, for the first time I can remember I actually cried while watching a film!
Now, this would be a good thing in most cases, but it seems that the thing that got the waterworks running for me was a Shakespearian play!
I was watching Laurence Olivier's wonderful portrayal of King Lear (the 1984 filmed version) on the plane today, and at the end of the fourth scene of act two I just had my eyes watering like mad! (The one where he storms out of the Earl of Gloucester's castle after both Regan and Gonerill abate him of his followers)
It was quite a wonderful feeling and somehow I felt this little fact was important enough to bother all of you with it. Pardon the annoyance!
Now you can bring on the "How could such an outdated play affect you so?" comments!
I think I'll have to go to a psychiatrist now.

Posted 15 years agoHow can I even hope to begin?
I don't even think I should say it, for as soon as I express something in words I feel as if I greatly diminish what I mean to say, but if I don't then no-one would ever know!
Regardless, I really have to say that being here with you guys is absolutely wonderful! You're all extremely nice and fun to talk to, plus I don't have to hide anything, most notably the fact that even though what I do is considered extremely classicist, posh and dull, I enjoy, nay, more than that! Am inspired by the delightfully sweet pictures that are here! I don't think I have to mention who in particular, but I think it's very safe to say that thanks to you, I've managed to make some of my best work.
Of course, I know I'm not all too popular on here, but that's of no importance, because you who'll read this really keep me going! Of course audiences at concerts are great and there is no better feeling than the people who stay for a while longer to say something personally, pity that I seldom see them again! Here of course, the feeling is quite similar (even if it lacks the nice physical aspect), but I get to keep in touch, and look back on everything everybody said to me!
Well, I'd rather not veer off too far! Thanks for everything, you guys are totally awesome to the max! I only hope that I'll be able to continue giving you some nice tunes to help you pass the time a bit more nicely and perhaps bring a bit of joy!
And I think I ought to say thanks for the last few days to everyone who commented and to a few who even gave me a few gifts. I know this was all unintentional, more of a happy coincidence really! But recently I've been feeling rather sad, not depressed mind you! Just a bit blue due to a recent event. It would have probably been worse if I didn't get those wonderful things and the encouraging comments you all always manage to write! I mean, I did get quite a bit of support from the people around me, but in a way they were in sorrow with me, and though it's nice not to be alone, it's not very uplifting if everyone around you is down.
Really! I wish there were a thousand words for thank-you, I would use them all! You all have my eternal gratitude, appreciation and... love(?). I'm truly indebted to all of you awesome, marvellous, nifty, cool, stellar, divine, fabulous, excellent, sensational, superb, superlative, noble, fantastic, neat, prime, top-notch, classic, great, unsurpassed, first-class, capital, superior, grand, bang-up, wonderful, first-rate, groovy, dandy, supernal, terrific, sterling, fine, splendid people!
Have a wondrous time!

Right, I've got myself a fursona!
Posted 15 years agoAnd it's a black cat in a flowered hat!
The hat is optional, and so is the cat.
Though the flower is always quite nice,
it needn't be there while I chase mice.
Actually, me being half lutist and half guitarist,
having retractable nails gives my life a new gist.
No more shall I have to grow and cut off my nails
to switch between the two. So now I hoist my sails,
write my tales and ready the gales! Sea's waiting.
Oh, but I shan't like the water now; no swimming?
Bah, I'll be on a ship, singing an ancient ode,
for those people who play games in easy mode.
Well, I guess that that's that, I've been drawn as a cat thrice and it's time to accept it, for a cat in my position being a cat is the best thing!
My dream is to be able to play the guitar and lute whenever I please, but that's something for my dreams, as guitars need nails and lutes need flesh (the strings and frets are made of gut for Pete's sake!).
So here, we are, a catty me!
shade99 Who first quipped the idea and made it a lovely reality with tomatoes: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4235561
swiftcutter Who went above and beyond today and made me two super dooper sketches that have made my mind up: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4460280 and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4460392/
Since my hat is quite important, it can be put on anything and it immediately becomes me (creepy thought, isn't it, but if one were to draw that cat alone, I'll be quite happy, the next thing here is fine too.), I think I better also give someone else a mention, this time it's me as a fox (with a clever colour scheme that matches the flower!) a big hand to
zerda-fox, who made me this: http://zerda-fox.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2wuhuo (I guess being a fox is good on those chicken catching nights, though I'm sure cats cope fairly well in hunts.).

Posted 15 years agoI mean the "third dimension"! Jeez, them damn spelling mistakes.
So, after having lingered in the first and fourth dimensions, and a bit on the second, I can safely say that I've been in every dimension we are sure exist, well, the fourth might not really exist, but I call it time, and music exists in the first and fourth ones so... anyway!
Without further ado, a huge thank-you to
who has made a paper model of the hat and flower which may or may not be just an accessory, here it is: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4382411
Now, I think that four more people deserve some standing ovations,
for making me angry: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4212108/
who decided to draw me as a purr-machine (a cat): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4235561
who made me a keychain: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4330442 (he also created two illustrations for my "symphony": The Antique Symphony - " The cover page" and "The Wordless Ballad of Tawny")
And someone who isn't here, but deserves the shout-out none-the-less,
Zerda-Fox from dA, who drew me as a fox with a hat: http://randomonlooker.deviantart.com/#/d2wuhuo :3
Thanks you all! You really made my days by doing these things, and rest assured that whenever I click these links and gaze upon your gifts I will only have another day made.
