Banette

Seriously.
(On a note, nah, I haven't gotten Heart Gold or Soul Silver. Been a lot of Pokemon hype because of that, though, yeah?)

Augh, crap. Halp. .__.
General | Posted 16 years agoWell, it's finally happening.
After a 4 year run, my tablet is starting to die on me. At first I thought it was just the pen, but now the wiring is starting to go shotty, too. While I'm using it, it keeps turning off whenever I move the wire, making it hard to do anything with digital art.
So, after the commission I'm doing right now, I won't be doing any more digital commissions for a while.
In the mean time, I'm going to take traditional commissions to buy a new tablet all together.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1149506/ still doesn't have any offers. Now it looks like all of these that I'll be doing are going to be in marker and pencil and/or pen. I guess I should do a sample piece for those to show first. e_ea
Any commissions anyone could give me to help would be great. Even if it's just a 5 dollar sketch. I like to think that I price fairly. :/ And I'll try to get them out in a quick, consistent manner.
Edit: DISREGARD THIS. A friend is sending me her spare Bamboo in exchange for a puppet of a bird person.

Fuck yeah, Chrono Trigger
General | Posted 16 years agoBecause you don't need to be a furry to know that Frog is a BAMF.
I got Chrono Trigger DS for Christmas this year and I've been obsessing over the game on and off since then. I like to party together Magus and Frog, because they would both make such splendid frienemies.
Also, Gato.
Who doesn't love Gato?
(This is irrelevant to the topic at hand, but a big thank you to all of the new watchers I've gotten. Also a huge thanks to
spottyjaguar for pimping me out. :x )

Strange dreams.
General | Posted 16 years agoIt's almost 6 in the morning.
I've been up since about 3. But I had strange dreams during the in-between time when I was sleeping.
First, for some reason, I had to walk through a variation of a diner back from my hometown to get to someplace. Do you know when you know a place in your dream, but it looks absolutely nothing like how you remember it? It was like that.
Anyway, when I was passing through, there was a terrible infestation of crawling insects. Maggots, roaches, ants, locusts, silverfish, some strange transparent things that I couldn't identify, ect. All of them fairly big. I recall seeing a huge ant-moth thing giving birth/laying eggs right on the ground in front of me. (gross!) I heard someone say that it started out as ants getting into the sandwiches, and that when they checked on them in the morning, the sandwiches were entirely gone. I had to hurry and rush through, otherwise they would bite at my ankles or crawl on me. Which I really didn't want.
So, that was weird.
Then later, I encountered a weird, tall, humanoid plant (fungus? Insect?) creature that split apart from another one and grew into its own being. I ended up befriending him. I forget what his name was, but for some reason, I think it sounded something like Tziporah with the 't' pronounced. Only lovelier sounding and more fluid. He asked what mine was, so I replied, "It's Kari." He gave me this odd look like something wasn't right, to which I said, "I know, it doesn't sound real, does it?" He shook his head, so I asked what he thought my name should be. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Orange!"
I remember laughing and saying, "That would explain why I like the color so much."
I really liked Something-Like-Tziporah, but he seemed to be very sensitive about people who looked at him strangely and punched them in the face (hard) if they looked down on him for being an inhuman thing. Poor dear. I had to try to stop him to keep him out of trouble, but I don't think it helped. :/
I like being able to remember my dreams. Dream logic is odd, but there was something kind of nice and magic about this one.

Commission Information Journal
General | Posted 16 years agoPutting it here and just linking to it instead so I don't feel like a dickhead by having what is essentially a big, flashy collection of paragraphs saying "HEY! PAY ME TO DRAW!" as the first thing people see out of me.
Commission Information
Sketches: $8 USD for any sketch.
*If the request is simple enough/asked to be done in a simple style, then the price may be lowered.
Linework: $12 USD.
Icons: $16 USD. Digital media.
Digital Artwork: $25 - $50 USD.
*The pricing of digital artwork depends specifically on what you want done and how you want it done. While I do put a good effort into each piece of artwork I do, the ones that will be more work intensive and time consuming will cost more.
Traditional Artwork: $30 - $75 USD.
*Again, pricing depends on what you want and how you want it done. Black and white will be less expensive than color. I also offer to mail out the artwork to the commissioner, but only if they are comfortable with giving me their address. Postage costs will be figured in to the total cost of the commission.
Character Puppets: $80 - $120 USD.
A movable/posable puppet of a character. In essence, a doll. The price for the doll covers materials and shipping. Price varies depending on size and complexity of the doll. Extra charges may be added for international shipping. Puppets generally range from 6" to 12" in height. Keep in mind that the skeletons of these puppets are made with aluminum wire, and they must be handled with care so that they do not break. When you change poses of your puppet, change them slowly and do not put unnecessary stress on the wire. This will ensure that your puppet stays in good condition longer.
If you would like a commission, feel free to send me a note. The more detail you can give me for a drawing or puppet, the better I can make it turn out how you would like it. I'll come back to consult you probably multiple times to make sure you get what you ask for. Please note that I do not do hardcore fetish art, so don't even ask.
I prefer to accept payment for a commission in intervals. Half at the start, half at the end. I'll keep you updated on progress at parts in between. I only accept payment through Paypal. Sorry!

"I can't even draw a straight line."
I always think to myself,
"Well, fuck. Neither can I."
Seriously. Who can draw perfectly straight lines without a ruler? And I've heard it out of multiple people, too.

General | Posted 16 years agoExcuse 1: School's starting up again.
Excuse 2: Nothing finished.
Excuse 3: Too lazy to sketchdump.
Excuse 4: Working on two more puppets.
Regardless, things are still fairly easygoing right now. Hope that I keep consistent with my productivity.

Removals.

WHAT IF I WANTED TO READ THAT JOURNAL, MAN?!
Also, drawing moth-things and going out to see Avatar tonight. Whoo.
Edit: ALSO, because I think this is creepy and neat and I'm a freak who's fascinated by bugs like that, I had no idea that this existed before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confec.....oner%27s_glaze

Commissions and Maggots
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, Commissions are wide open again, with everything all taken care of and accounted for.
I've even added in the option of commissioning a puppet of a character. Since I'm a stop motion major, I've learned to make puppets for animation. The biggest difference between a puppet for animation and a regular doll is just what moves and what remains stationary, so I thought that the idea would be neat.
On a side note, I've been spending the last few days cleaning out our pantry and killing moths that have started breeding in there. The source was an ancient box of Aunt Jemima pancake mix that everyone seems to have forgotten about. But I'm still finding moths everywhere. There's no feeling more unpleasant than finding that a moth laid its eggs under the lid of your blender and having its maggots staring you in the face.
On the other hand, it's kind of fascinating how a creature who is essentially made of DUST manages to survive and procreate without killing itself every time it lands on something. I think that they've been creeping in the gaps between the walls and the shelves, and I have a horrifying suspicion that there are even more maggots crawling back there, waiting for their day to rise against me.
But the dreaded Mothslayer comes armed with spray bottles and bleach. She cannot lose.
Still, I didn't want to start of the new year asking myself "Is that a moth maggot, or a grain of rice?"
*shudder*

General | Posted 16 years agoSo, uh...
General | Posted 16 years agoTurns out I didn't lose everything.
Got a call from the Apple Store on Sunday telling me that they were waiting on me to pick up Don Quixote (aka old Mac) still. They'd accidentally sent it out for repairs after we'd initially declined it, so the repair was on them.
New casing, new screen, new keys (?!), even a brand spanking new battery.
So...I have two MacBooks now. Dad wants to hang onto the old one after I move everything off of it. I kind of want to stick both of them together and open up PhotoBooth. 8D </dumb>
I'm gonna move all my stuff and then (finally) post up the commissions I've had unfinished since foreverago. I'll get it in sometime between packing and getting together with people to say goodbye before moving back to Manhattan.
Final notes:
1) Man, sometimes people just like to bitch for the sake of bitching. It seems like there's drama now everywhere I look and I don't give a rat's ass about any of it.
2) I'm going to start making comics soon. Got the spark back for it.
3) One of the characters for it is a vegan vampire. Figure that one out.
4) I really need to maintain a more linear train of thought when writing things out.

Fleas need to go to Hell.
General | Posted 16 years agoThe little cocksuckers.
Soo, my dad and I had our cat Phobie in the garage, because while he's a friendly and personable cat, he kept peeing on the new carpet in the living room. A few weeks ago, we discovered that the garage had been massively infested with fleas. So we took poor Phobie to the vet, got him his shots, got him a collar, gave him a flea bath, and stuck him outside. He seems to like being out there, which is good. What's bad is after bombing the garage (twice!), there are still fleas all over. Their numbers are diminishing, thankfully, but they're still being pains in the ass.
Anyway. Good news. I've been getting out of the funk I've been in. There are some neat things I've been doing with ballpoint pen that I need to scan. Most of it's just sketches and doodles, but they're some of the nicest things I've done in a while. Especially considering that I was just dicking around for these.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...../Photo14-1.jpg <-- Uyraies with...weird, big shoes.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...../Photo17-1.jpg <-- An oddly proportioned (God, I hate those arms) strange-thing named Omen. He's an embodiment of misfortune and a harbinger of tragic events. Hence the name. But he's really a nice lad. Just brainless and a push-over.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.....05/Photo15.jpg <-- Insomnia. Uhm, and part of a hand. I'm not sure why, but I like this drawing of 'Nia very much. It captures her personality well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...../Photo21-1.jpg <--Also, short boyish hair. Gonna get the ends done purple when I go back to school.

I feel like I'm not as creative as I used to be.
General | Posted 16 years agoI dunno, maybe it's a slump or something. I feel like I'm really not performing up to par, though, especially lately. I'll start on something and then get mad at myself when I can't seem to have it come out right.
I'll probably get over it. I just really don't know. A lot of my creativity recently seems to be invested in this mythology of tribal nomadic Satyrs I made up. But I don't feel like drawing Satyr stuff.
Maybe I should get back into drawing tree people again. Like Vestal and the Coffee Dryad. I never did finish that first painting of the Coffee Dryad. I liked her, even if she was old and saggy boobed and had her blue brain showing. Those two were always fun to draw.
Also, I cut my hair again. I meant just to shorten it some, cause it was starting to get longer, but I ended up taking off more than I really wanted to. So, I look like a boy again.

Man, I need to knock that crap off.

For serious this time. Turns out after Don Quixote (the old Mac) stopped working, the cost to repair it rose significantly, and it was just less effort and pain to go and get a new one. Especially since he was an outdated model and I need a computer that runs art programs without getting an ulcer. *Eyes her aging PC*
R.I.P., Don Quixote.
So now, taking his place is the shinier, spryer new Cervantes. Thank the stars I never threw out the e-mail that had the Activation serial for my Adobe software package. Like an idiot, I never backed up Don Quixote's hard drive.
I'm mildly annoyed. There were some drawings and projects I was working on that I'll now never see again because of that, and now I'll have to copypasta everything I have updated on my website to Cervantes so I can work on it.
But I do have a computer that works great, and I can always work up from there.
We also got a new modem that seems to support Skype a lot better than our old one did. So for the Skype crew, I'll try to be on a bit more.
Uh...new stuff will probably be uploaded soon-ish. The first thing I want to show off is this ant-lion I sculpted. Literally, part ant, part lion.
To Irate and Matt:
I TOLD YOU GUYS you should've waited until I actually finished the commissions to pay me! >_o Now I feel like a super jerk because you've been waiting for months for this stuff I've been promising to get to you soon.
To Noah: What's the name of that program you have to download and the site you have to go to for people to watch you draw? I had the stuff for it on my old Mac, but now I don't anymore.
EDIT: ALSO, I went to Alaska for two weeks! Very odd and interesting place out there. But after the first week, you find out that there's not really a lot to do there (other than nature hikes and camping and the like). But they're very big on cooking good food and making a lot of beer. Probably because there's nothing better to do in winter...
It's gorgeous out there, though. Hands down one of the prettiest places I've ever been.

Almost Alive.
General | Posted 16 years agoI leave for home today after my last class for the year lets out.
I don't know how things are going to go with the summer, honestly. But I'll be submitting. I'm gonna take a few days off just to myself and chill out. Maybe.
Like I said, I don't know. Time off from school pretty much means more time to work on everything fucking else, aha.
I feel kind of loopy. Over the collective 3 days of the weekend, I've gotten 3-4 hours of sleep. After today is going to be like having a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders (After unpacking, job hunting, room cleaning, ect, ect. How does a room that I haven't even been in since a few months ago get dirty?)
I'm going to sleep so hard tonight. <3 For my Drawing II final, I was so nervous I didn't have enough work for my portfolio. I needed 29 drawings to fill the book. I brought in forty fucking two. Whooooo.

God damn it, listen to yourselves talk. >:|
General | Posted 16 years agoI really hate it when there are people who are saying that Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network's stuff is all substandard, compared to what they used to produce, and then admit that they haven't even looked at/heard of the new stuff that they are producing.
I also hate it when there are people who debunk Disney and 3-D animation, then talk about how much they loved Wall-E or Tale of Desparoux or something. Or people who say that it's easy when they have no idea how it works or how much work has gone into it.
The world's changing. We're living in a time where there's a lot more of a careful eye kept on programming made for children. Because cartoons are still seen as a medium for -kids- to be entertained with. But there are still cartoons being made with intelligence and humor in them.
I just wish some folks would stop looking at how good they thought the past was, and start thinking about the present, and the soon-to be future instead. And if you're going to have an opinion, at least have an educated one. Understand wtf it is you're actually talking about.

Shit, shit, and bugger is sideways.
General | Posted 16 years agoYeah, I know I'm not British.
When I was walking through the subways the other day, I oversaw a step and ended up falling. With my MacBook in my bag.
It didn't sustain any real damage, but there's an ugly black spider-crack in the corner now on the screen. It still runs fine. But now I've lost a good 2 inches of work space in that corner. >_<
Gonna see how much it's going to cost to repair the damn thing. I'm just glad it was on the corner, and not in the middle of the screen, or something like that. I WANTED to spend my tax returns on a violin, or maybe to traveling to Florida for a week this summer, but it looks like I've got another priority first.
I'm still not really here, btw.
Edit: FUUUUUUUCK. It's going to take me ~500 dollars to get it replaced. Son of a bitch.

General | Posted 16 years agoI'm going to be taking a brief hiatus from the Internet while I get myself together on some things.
There's been a lot on my mind recently, and some things I have to handle in the mean time.
Ciao.
