more Philosophical psycho babble
Posted 14 years agoSo.. the topic for today is hypocrisy. It's becoming more abundant lately. There are many definitions of this and different ways of saying it. They all mean the same or to me they used to do. However, for argument sake, I will post the two different definitions.
Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.
Hypocriticism is criticism by somebody (a hypocrite) who criticizes another but does the same as the person they are criticizing.
You're probably thinking.. Why are you telling me something I already know? You may know the word, but may have never been on the receiving end and/or witness it on a daily basis but still know it exists. It's time for more.. math like situations that's not really.. math lol. This is based on experience.
Say A and B are friends. B is talking to A about sex. B has no idea that A has done many things related to sex. A believes in no sex before marriage, but however, as mentioned before, has done sexual favors. A tells B to not have sex until he/she is married. Since A believes in no sex before marriage and yet has done sexual favors (Traditional sex or otherwise) makes A a Hypocrite. However, one could say that A is telling B not to do it based on the mistakes that A has made and doesn't want to see B do the same. It's for others to decide.
I have other examples, but I know if I were to say them, it would only cause much unneeded trouble even if it's the truth. Trust me, I would like to speak my mind, but some things are better left unsaid. So, I'll bring up a few examples from the internet.
1. A person believes it's okay to kill people but tells others not to kill.
2. A parent/friend telling their children/friends not to smoke/do drugs even if the said parent is smoking/doing drugs.
There are many examples, but where do we draw the line? Do we try to tell our friends that their behavior is close to being hypocritical? If they are and we tell them, that friend is going to get mad and say that they're lying or trying to do something to hurt them when they do nothing wrong. Even if you can show them proof of their hypocrisy, they feign innocents and go into denial. It begins to make people think that if their friend could do this at any time then.. what kind of values do they have? It slowly begins to fee like "If they do it, it's fine. However, if I do the same thing, it suddenly becomes wrong."
I have been through that so many times. I have seen friends tell me one thing. Get mad at me for something I say and not talk to me. I would realize that I had some part it in, but the other people involved have to realize that it takes two to tango. However, when the roles are reversed, all hell breaks loose. When I repeat the same thing or behavior a friend has done, they get mad and say I am in the wrong when they themselves are guilty of the same thing and then wonder why the hell I got so mad at them in the argument to begin with.
To note, this isn't bashing anyone, and if you feel that I am, go read my journal on assumption. You may get a feel of who I am through reading my journals. However, that doesn't give you the right to assume my nature/personality or to judge me. Actually get to know me before making wild accusations. Even if you read that other journal and still feel the same, all I can say is that I'm sorry.
Feel free to comment but try.. Try to keep it clean.

Assumptions and judgement
Posted 14 years agoI have been thinking a lot about things lately. Mostly about the name of this journal. What I'm saying is completely hypothetical. I am not talking about anyone I know. I've dealt with things like this through high school, college, and even with online people. If you feel like I'm talking about you, truly, I am not.
Here's an example.
There's two group of friends. I'll call them A and B so it's simple. Group A and B don't really talk to each other but know about each other due to a common friend who I will name X. Haha, this is becoming a math problem, isn't it? Anyway, back on topic. X gets in a fight with Group A and X decides not to talk to Group A anymore. X starts talking to Group B more. Group B, being the friends they are, ask X what's wrong. X tells them (Either just the gist, all of it, or even twisting things. I'm trying to include all factors). Group B has no other choice but to assume that Group A are bad people when in reality, they no nothing about Group A and don't have the full story on why X refuses to talk to Group A. Of course, this works Vise versa.
What I'm getting at is when people talk to each other and only say things like "They always say mean things to me" or "they're so insensitive" and so on, it makes the other people assume that the other person is this cruel being that has no heart when in reality, that person that is being trashed has done so much for the other person and just made a mistake out of either anger, sorrow, or any other kind of emotion. We judge people on only what we know. By not knowing the bigger picture, we are doomed to make assumptions that can either make or break a potential relationship or otherwise.
I know assuming things about people is wrong. However, try to see it like this. Friends C and D are talking about E. C and E don't know each other. D is talking to C because D and E got into an argument. C gets mad at E and when the two see each other, trouble starts.
One can easily say if C got to know E, then things would be better. However, C felt like she/he had to protect D. C didn't know any better. C only knew what D told him/her.
i'm not condoning assuming things. I'm just saying that when we're given so little information about the people we are talking about, we have no other choice but to assume. Then, when we try to do the right thing and get to know the person, the assumptions made come to bite us in the ass. Everyone has a part to play. This is why knowing both sides of the story is so important. One can't hold it from either side just to see both sides clash or to get one side on your side and leave the other hanging.
People judge us on the choices we make. It could be the small things. People judge us by the way we dress. People judge us by what music we listen to. People judge us on our values. Most importantly, people judge us based on our religion. Just because we don't like what our friends like doesn't we're not friends. Just because we believe in different things doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong. Things have to be different in order for others to notice the similarities. Judging only becomes wrong when it becomes biased and/ore racist.
Well, I've rambled on enough. If you guys wanna talk about this, feel free. Just be nice about it, okay? I want to know people's opinions on assumption and judgement.

Any fellow MMORPGers out there?
Posted 14 years agoSoo... Yeah. I'm a big player on free to play mmorpgs. I admit it. I'm cheap lol. Then again, from time to time I'll spend money on the cash shop on whatever game I am on at the time. I've played many mmos and still play them on and off. I'll list them here. Not sure if I can provide the links to them, however.
EDIT: I need to make this well known. I sometimes tire of things quickly. I can't help that. in order to keep my interest in the games I play, I tend to go from one game to the next. A game hopper, if you will. Sometimes this takes years and sometimes it can take months. I just feel this should be noted.
DoMO - Dream of Mirror Online
This was my first one. Silly, ain't it? It was a good start, if I do say so myself. Screen name for this one is Xeras on the Onyx server.
Perfect World International - Ah, brings back so many memories. I mostly play as Xetheras on the Harshland servers which is a PvP (Player vs Player) server. She's a 78 herc Veno. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. Let's just say pking while trying to do a quest pker stuns poor veno and mob kills her to lose exp is not fun D<
Jade Dynasty - Don't remember my name on here lol. I felt like the whole botting thing made it easy. Then again, maybe I chose the wrong class. I believe I was a Skysong.
Forsaken World - Yet another PWE game. I got into closed beta by being one of the many winners of the 'design your own skill' contest. I was Xetheras in Closed Beta and still am Xetheras in open. I am a bard (my main) and a mage. I believe the server was the U.S. PvP server.
Iris Online: Forget what server, but my name is either Xeras or Xetheras. I wanna say Xeras. i play the role of a healer and i'm one level away from job change.
Lucent Hearts - A recently new MMO that is now in open beta. I forget what serve I am on, but the name, like on many others, is Xetheras. When I play again, I'll edit this to get the server name. Oh, this has the Caramelldansen Dance xD. I spam it to high hell and back. Note: if you do install this, be sure to not have a browser open. Further down the line when it patches, it'll ask you to close the browsers so it can patch. Why I dunno. Just giving a heads up.
I tend to keep the same user name just in case people from the games I've played with before happen to be on any new ones i am on. Funny how I stick to PvP servers even though they drive me batshit insane. Guess i can't let one bad incident ruin it for me, right?
So, if you guys have any of these games, or even if you don't, would you all like to meet up on there and play/quest together? It'll be a good way for us to hang out and get to know each other more and all that stuff. Besides, you all might get ideas on what to draw! Alex did a fan art of a Mush from Iris Online. So, anyone interested?

Something to Ponder
Posted 14 years agoIn life, there are many trials and tribulations that a person grows through. When we are born, we are weak and defenseless. We depend on those around us to take care of us. We grow up into children, still dependent on our parents. As we grow into teenagers, we still depend on others. Even as adults, we depend on others. We have grown up knowing dependency. It's until we break away from what we have know all our lives that we become independent. However, can one still be independent and still be with family? I believe so. That's what College is for. Sure, some may want to live on campus or near campus. Some may want a college near home so they can commute. Change is hard to accept.
Those who go to college take a big risk. Not only are they putting themselves out there to get a higher education, they begin to realize things and start to ask questions: Where can I get extra money? What can I do during the time I have no classes? After college, what awaits me out there?
Even if you don't go to college or just can't, there's always an option. Don't close things out. It may be hard to get a job, but at least consider all your options. The economy, perhaps not only in America, is going down the hole. Families struggle to provide for their family whether it's bills, paying off bills, or securing their children's future. If you believe your family is struggling, what are you doing to help? Do you try to help out even if it's just to clean up the house? Do you have a job to help increase the income and have means of survival? Or do you deny or refuse to accept what is going on and just sit at home either on the computer, playing games, or anything that's not helping the situation?
Of course, if one were working along with their family, what if that money isn't enough? What if you want so much more than what your current job has to offer? It's a known fact to get any decent jobs, you have to move to another city (in state or out of state) and complete so many years in college. Not many jobs (I am sure there are some) that offer you a position just with an Associate's degree in whatever major. It tends to be either Bachelor's or Master Degrees that are required. I could be wrong on this. I'm just speaking from my field since most of the ones I want require higher degrees. I would love to go back to college, but it's just simply out of the question.
Now, let's talk about the people we choose to hang around. "You can never choose your family, but you can choose your friends". Like parents, our friends up us in our time of need. We rely on them to cover our backs or to stand up for us when we don't have the strength nor the courage to do so ourselves. Friends fight. It's a given. Friends fight because though we are similar, we all have opinions and beliefs. It is these two that makes everyone who they are. Everyone is entitled to think what they want and believe what they want. However, this ceases to be when an individual starts forcing their opinions and beliefs on their friends in order to sway them onto their side. However, when fights are started because of one or the other's opinion and belief, both sides would probably be scared to voice themselves.
No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. However, what if we try to tell our friends, even if it's worded wrong or out of anger, and they get mad at it and misunderstand what you're trying to say? Isn't it a friend's duty to tell each other that the things they do are wrong? People tend to get mad at the truth because they believe it to be true. Think about it. Would we honestly get so mad about something unless it's true? However, to play devil's advocate, we can equally get mad at things that are just as false as it is the truth.
Things come and go on a whim. We can always take back what we say, but cannot undo the things we have done. When done correctly, words can hurt just as much as a physical cut. They can be drenched in poison and can be easily twisted to suit the needs of others when they find it convenient to do so.
We as human beings are often so trusting. We open ourselves up into things that may or may not hurt us. Some may see it as a waste of time since they have been hurt so much. Having my heart broken a lot, I can easily understand why someone would want to close off their heart. That's not how you should live life. Life is all about taking those risks to learn who we are and the things we like. If we live behind the walls we set up to protect ourselves, we will forever be alone.
So, read all of this if you want. Skim it, or don't even read it. The choice is yours. For those who have read it, feel free to share your comments. As long as we have a friendly "debate", if you can call it that, I don't mind. I just want others to see from a prospective that may not be their own.
Those who go to college take a big risk. Not only are they putting themselves out there to get a higher education, they begin to realize things and start to ask questions: Where can I get extra money? What can I do during the time I have no classes? After college, what awaits me out there?

So, read all of this if you want. Skim it, or don't even read it. The choice is yours. For those who have read it, feel free to share your comments. As long as we have a friendly "debate", if you can call it that, I don't mind. I just want others to see from a prospective that may not be their own.
