Who has read/is reading Will of the Alpha?
General | Posted 13 years agoThis isn't me trying to pressure you or call you out if you haven't; I would like to talk to those who have or are in the process of reading it. :)
Review: Smiley and the Hero
General | Posted 13 years agoOften, an author's first book has this problem of Firstbookitis, where clear problems are shown in the prose or the plotting, or something.
Not so with Smiely and the Hero. The pacing, the characters, and the ending hit every point they should with a solid foundation. There's actual suspense and tension, which I find lacking in a lot of fandom writing. I was satisfied and look forward to the author's next book.
Check out Smiley and the Hero. Four stars from this mole.

Furries are Awesome, also help this guy
General | Posted 13 years agoAnthology Sale at FurPlanet
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm a little late to note this (like, oh, two weeks) but FurPlanet is having a sale on their anthologies:
The FANG and ROAR series have special introductory pricing with volume 1 of each series reduced to $9.95 and the remaining volumes are 25% off their regular price.
Our other anthology titles are 10% off their regular price. This includes Holidays, The Fortune Teller's Poem and the newly released Will of the Alpha.
So you know. If you wanted to pick any up, they're cheaper. Here's the site's link, just in case. And oh, here's Will of the Alpha.
Why no, this is not a shameless plug, why do you ask?

Thought on relevence of sex to the narrative
General | Posted 13 years agoOne of the topics that often comes up with adult writing is making the sex relevant to the plot. By doing that, it often means having the sex mean something.
If you are looking for ways to do this, check out the movie After Sex - it's a movie of 7 vignettes about the conversations the characters have after having sex.
(As added incentive for folks out there, one of the vignettes involves Mila Kunis and Zoe Saldana discussing eating pussy)

Anthology open for submissions
General | Posted 13 years agoHuh, just found this guy
General | Posted 13 years agoSo there's an author advertising his books on FA; they're all on Amazon and Amazon's kindle store/itunes/etc. Never heard of him.
I wonder if his stuff is any good. I don't have any e-readers, and have a Pile of furry books, but cheap kindle books is a great way to go.
If anyone picks one up and checks it out, let me know.

So, Write This
General | Posted 13 years agoI was having a discussion with my publisher at FWA. He turned to me and said, "You know, I wish we had a lesbian novel. We don't get asked for it a lot, but I just want it to have it in case someone does, and just to have something for all orientations."
This speaks to an existing real gap in the furry lit arena. There are very little Straight erotica. There's multiple genres that lack representation (Action & Adventure, Mystery, Thriller, etc) and what genres are there is still only a few (Sci fi, Western, Steampunk, Urban Fantasy). But if you want fantasy or slice-of-life coming out stories, you have pick of the litter.
So if you want to create something that will find an audience, go with something that is just Lacking. And pitch it to a publisher.

Back from FWA and you, read this guy!
General | Posted 14 years agoI has returned from the FWA, a fantastic con. Sadly I couldn't post this journal AT the con; for some reason I could log into FA, I could look at PORN, but when I clicked the "My Journals" tab, their safe surfing thing blocked FA. So, censorship-fail.
I am jazzed up pumped up and ready to do some writey action. There vill be changes and announcements and suchlike. Grr, ambitious mole!
One thing of note to you gentle reader: go and read Robert Baird's stories on SoFurry. Honestly, go. He's a fan of mine who met me at FWA, and I looked at his stuff, attended his panels, and wow. Sadly, he's ONLY on SoFurry - apparently he can only keep up with one furry site at a time (I know, I are disappoint). Not only this, but he also believes strongly in helping people find the good stories on SoFurry, so I will be repeating his recommendations.

Would you buy/read this?
General | Posted 14 years agoJust floating a general thought out there. If I were to say, put 3-4 new stories into an ebook, and charged like $2-3, would that interest you?
I'm trying to decide if it's worth it, or just try to plug away at the traditional method (submit to Heat, put stories online for free, try to write a novel).

My Stuff on Goodreads now!
General | Posted 14 years agoHey, I've got an author page up on Goodreads.com, along with one for both of my books. In case you wanted to, you know, rate or post reviews. Btw, all of Kyell's books and a few other furry books are on there too. So you can support the furry community by rating and reviewing.
If you don't know what Goodreads.com is, it's a site where you list all the books you've read, are reading, or plan to, and you can rate and post reviews. I like it because the recommendation system has helped me find quite a few new books I'm interested in reading.

BDSM anthology is live - Will of the Alpha is available
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter a year of hard work, Will of the Alpha is now for sale. You can find it on the FurPlanet table at Furry Fiesta this weekend, or pre-order it via the link.
Inside are 10 stories, 2 poems. 4 Gay, 3 straight, 2 bi, and 1 lesbian story, varying in degrees of intensity. Flogging, extensive bondage, pony and puppy play, humiliation, and power exchange. More importantly, many of the stories deal with the intersection of lives and the lifestyle, so it's not Just kink for the sake of kink.
By the way, one of the stories from the anthology - Attachments - is on the Bad Dog Book Club. Warning, this is the most intense story in the book, and might squick.

General | Posted 14 years agoI broke the 100 barrier in 2011 4th quarter sales.

Pitch your Novel to Sofawolf at MFF

I'd suggest having your proverbial shit together with your book if you're going to pitch it. Sofawolf takes projects Seriously.

I ain't going no where
General | Posted 14 years agoJust for the record.
I ain't leaving the fandom in the forseeable future.
Life may get very tedious, or I might die, or just be quiet on here, and eventually I will try to break out into mainstream writing - but I'm not going to pull the "I'm leaving the fandom forever guys q.q' posts.
Been involved in the fandom for 14 years, I ain't going no where.

Anyone out there have problems with idea generation?
General | Posted 14 years agoI was considering writing an entry on story idea creation. But it occurred to me that many may not have this problem. I don't.
So I'm asking if there's actually anyone with this problem or if I'm writing for no reason whatsoever? :)

Types of Sex for your Erotica Writing
General | Posted 14 years agoSo let's say you want to write erotica. But you want to he sex to be significant? Have a purpose in the story? Or maybe you want to present a situation/mood?
Here is an article on 8 types of sex couples should have. It's focused on long-term relationship sex health, but it's easily useful to take each one and brainstorm about how you could have this in a story.
However I think maintenance sex would be a boring story, and for interesting sex in stories, "Angry sex" would be a good addition.

Where are you staying? - Main hotel.
[b]What day are you getting there? - Thursday evening.
Who will you be with? - Nobody.
What is your gender? - Dudeguy.
How old are you? - 28
Are you taken? - I wish.
What suits will you have? - A birthday suit?
Can I touch you? - Do I know you?.
Can I talk to you? - Please do! Especially after panels.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? - Maybe a little.
Can I hug or snuggle with you? - Maybe a hug.
How tall are you? - 5'6"
Are you nice? - Yes.
Are you cliquey? - I have no idea how to clique..
Do you have an artist table? - I will likely do signings at the FurPlanet table at some points.
Do you like parties? - I don't know. I'll go to ones I'm asked to?
If I see you, how should I get your attention? - Say my name, touch my arm. Don't expect me to recognize you or read your badge.
Can I hang out with you? - If I'm not paneling, then I need someone to hang out with!
How can I find you? - Look for the purple labcoat.
Repeat: I have visual problems, so don't expect me to recognize your face or read your badge. Come up, say hi, tell me who the hell you are, maybe remind me once. But I'm quite sociable if you do so. :)
