This isn't me trying to pressure you or call you out if you haven't; I would like to talk to those who have or are in the process of reading it. :)

Often, an author's first book has this problem of Firstbookitis, where clear problems are shown in the prose or the plotting, or something.

Not so with Smiely and the Hero. The pacing, the characters, and the ending hit every point they should with a solid foundation. There's actual suspense and tension, which I find lacking in a lot of fandom writing. I was satisfied and look forward to the author's next book.

One of the topics that often comes up with adult writing is making the sex relevant to the plot. By doing that, it often means having the sex mean something.

So there's an author advertising his books on FA; they're all on Amazon and Amazon's kindle store/itunes/etc. Never heard of him.

I wonder if his stuff is any good. I don't have any e-readers, and have a Pile of furry books, but cheap kindle books is a great way to go.

If anyone picks one up and checks it out, let me know.

I was having a discussion with my publisher at FWA. He turned to me and said, "You know, I wish we had a lesbian novel. We don't get asked for it a lot, but I just want it to have it in case someone does, and just to have something for all orientations."

This speaks to an existing real gap in the furry lit arena. There are very little Straight erotica. There's multiple genres that lack representation (Action & Adventure, Mystery, Thriller, etc) and what genres are there is still only a few (Sci fi, Western, Steampunk, Urban Fantasy). But if you want fantasy or slice-of-life coming out stories, you have pick of the litter.

So if you want to create something that will find an audience, go with something that is just Lacking. And pitch it to a publisher.

I has returned from the FWA, a fantastic con. Sadly I couldn't post this journal AT the con; for some reason I could log into FA, I could look at PORN, but when I clicked the "My Journals" tab, their safe surfing thing blocked FA. So, censorship-fail.

I am jazzed up pumped up and ready to do some writey action. There vill be changes and announcements and suchlike. Grr, ambitious mole!

One thing of note to you gentle reader: go and read Robert Baird's stories on SoFurry. Honestly, go. He's a fan of mine who met me at FWA, and I looked at his stuff, attended his panels, and wow. Sadly, he's ONLY on SoFurry - apparently he can only keep up with one furry site at a time (I know, I are disappoint). Not only this, but he also believes strongly in helping people find the good stories on SoFurry, so I will be repeating his recommendations.

Just floating a general thought out there. If I were to say, put 3-4 new stories into an ebook, and charged like $2-3, would that interest you?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it, or just try to plug away at the traditional method (submit to Heat, put stories online for free, try to write a novel).

Hey, I've got an author page up on Goodreads.com, along with one for both of my books. In case you wanted to, you know, rate or post reviews. Btw, all of Kyell's books and a few other furry books are on there too. So you can support the furry community by rating and reviewing.

If you don't know what Goodreads.com is, it's a site where you list all the books you've read, are reading, or plan to, and you can rate and post reviews. I like it because the recommendation system has helped me find quite a few new books I'm interested in reading.

Life may get very tedious, or I might die, or just be quiet on here, and eventually I will try to break out into mainstream writing - but I'm not going to pull the "I'm leaving the fandom forever guys q.q' posts.

Been involved in the fandom for 14 years, I ain't going no where.

I was considering writing an entry on story idea creation. But it occurred to me that many may not have this problem. I don't.

So let's say you want to write erotica. But you want to he sex to be significant? Have a purpose in the story? Or maybe you want to present a situation/mood?

Here is an article on 8 types of sex couples should have. It's focused on long-term relationship sex health, but it's easily useful to take each one and brainstorm about how you could have this in a story.

However I think maintenance sex would be a boring story, and for interesting sex in stories, "Angry sex" would be a good addition.
