Posted 7 months agoI got laid off from my job, so I'm opening up 4 commission slots for some general-purpose character models!
For those who don't know, I make custom character models for general-purpose use. They can be used in Blender for renders and animation or ported to other programs and games like VRChat, Unreal Engine, etc. My prices are detailed in the link below, but the short of it is the price depends on complexity; I'll charge more for things like fine details, clothing and accessories, extra limbs, etc.

Added Sound to Some of my Animations!
Posted a year agoI've been intimidated by the prospect of adding sound to my animations ever since I started using Source Filmmaker nearly a decade ago and discovered just how involved it is, but I decided to give it another go recently. I discovered that at some point I had downloaded a decently large sound effect library (albeit consisting primarily of sounds from Half-Life, TF2 and Skyrim), so I decided to see if I could do anything with my recent animation.
As it turns out, even mediocre sound can bring an animation so much more life than no sound at all! After a couple weeks of fiddling, I managed to add sounds to two of my animations, A Friendly Debate (Redux) and Let Sleeping Giants Lie. The visuals are the same so I decided not to reupload new submissions for them, but the links in the descriptions should now take you to the version of the video with sound. Check them out and let me know what you guys think!

Ask Hellfarch (And Rec and Marvin)! (Round 1)
Posted 3 years agoHave you ever had a burning question to ask, but couldn't decide who to ask it to? Well now your decision isn't any less difficult, because you can not only give your query to a devilshly handsome demonic dude, but also a hunky slab of moose meat and even some snake guy who's also there! That's right, Hellfarch's Q and A is back, and this time you can ask Rec and Marvin questions too!
Check out the first and second round of questions as well as their answers to see what the process is like!
Post your questions in the comments of this journal, but please follow this formatting rule: you must specify who you're asking the question to or your question will be ignored. You can ask multiple characters the same question, just make sure to name them first.
Edit: As great as Hellfarch's feet are, there have been plenty of questions asked about them already. Please try to be a bit more creative than just formatting horny requests as a question.
Edit 2: And that's it for this round! I will start working on getting the answers out but I have no guarantees on how long it'll take. Thanks to everyone who submitted a question!

Commissions Will Be Closed Indefinitely
Posted 4 years agoHey all!
I started working a new job recently, and it is taking up nearly all of my free time each week. As such, I barely have the time and energy to work on personal projects, much less full commissions, so I'm afraid I will be closing them semi-permanently. For those who still want to commission me, I am very sorry, but you would be better off looking for someone else than waiting for me to open up again.
To those who have commissioned me in the past, I want to give a big thanks. Back when I first started doing lumpy ZBrush sculpts to practice for the sculpting class I was taking, I never would have thought that anyone would ever see my art as something worth paying for. You guys proved me wrong though, and as I gradually went from busts to full body sculpts to fully-rigged, game-ready characters, I gained skills that not only helped me land this new job but also let me help others struggling with the process. You all pushed me to improve myself, and I will always be grateful for that!

No Longer Open for Modeling Commissions!
Posted 4 years agoIt's been a while, but I am now ready to take on some new General Purpose Character Model commissions! For those not in the know, these commissions will give you a 3D model of your character that can be used in a variety of programs, from Blender to most modern game engines (like Unity and UE4).
IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ: I have raised my commission prices substantially since I was last open. Calculating the amount of work, time, and energy it takes in creating the models, I have been severely undercharging compared to most other 3D artists. These new prices reflect how much work goes into these models, and I will make sure to fulfill my high standard of quality for each. You can view my updated commission info here:
https://www.furaffinity.net/commiss.....ivesweatpants/
Please leave a comment below if you would like a slot! You can ask any questions about the commissions below as well. Thank you!

Posted 6 years agoI'm opening up slots for General-Purpose Character Models commissions once again! If you would like one, please send me a note or more preferably contact me on Discord (Recursive Sweatpants#4130) or Telegram (Recursive Sweatpants). Additionally, please read the following:
I accept commissions on a first-come-first-serve basis and I can only work on two at a time. A commission can take anywhere from a week to a month and a half to finish, depending on how complex it is, how busy I am with life and how stressed I am at the time. If my queue is long and you want a commission, you may have to wait anywhere from a few weeks to several months before it is your turn, so please keep that in mind. Additionally, please make sure you have the means to pay off the commission before I get to you! I charge half of the commission fee up front and if you are not able to pay it then you will be pushed to the back of the queue or potentially taken off it altogether.

FA Snuck In Something Helpful To The Site
Posted 6 years agoWhile I personally feel that the whole shinies thing is the staff trying to distract us from the fact that they aren't actually implementing any of the features people have been asking for over the past decade, they did actually take a good step forward with the way submissions are displayed:
High-resolution submissions will now scale to fit the size of your browser window when seen in Full View instead of stretching out the entire page.
This is a huge quality-of-life improvement, as you can still see the image in its full resolution by hitting the download button and expanding it there, but now you don't have to choose between squinting at the tiny thumbnail view or trying to piece together the whole thing in your head as you navigate a gargantuan billboard that you can only see a fraction of at any given moment. It baffles me that they wouldn't announce this as part of the site's update, as it is one of the very few steps in the right direction that they've made over the past few years.

Commissions Are Open! + Art Dump Warning
Posted 6 years agoHello everyone, I have revamped my Commission Info page and I am officially opening my commission queue back up! Some notable changes are that porting a model I've made to another program such as SFM will now incur a separate charge and that I can now create VRChat avatars!
Additionally, I will now post showcases of models I've created to this account whenever a commission is completed. I have done a lot of commissions over the past few years, but I've barely shown any of them off here on FA, so in a little while I will be posting all of the previous models I have created or ported for people! If you have commissioned a model/port from me and would like me to refrain from posting a render of it, please let me know.
If anyone would like a commission, feel free to drop a comment, send me a note or contact me directly on Telegram or Discord!

Ask Hellfarch! (Round 2) (CLOSED!)
Posted 7 years agoIs there something you've been dying to know about this hunky lizardy demon dude? Well die no longer, as you can ask him now, and maybe he'll answer it!
Before you ask, be sure to look over the previous set of questions to make sure you're not repeating anyone, and maybe peruse the previous set of his answers to see if they answer your question as well!

Opening Up Commission Queue Tomorrow!
Posted 7 years agoTomorrow on Wednesday, November 28 at 12:00 PM (2:00 PM EST), I will post another journal where people can sign up for Animation-Ready Character Model commissions! Rather than just opening up 2 slots, however, I will test out a queue system where I will work on only 2 commission slots at a time but a greater number of people can sign up for commissions. When I am finished with the current slots, I will move onto the next 2 people in the queue who are ready.

End of Year Sappyramble and Updates
Posted 9 years agoHey, all. Sorry to contribute to the slew of New Year's journals and such, but I feel that this is a good time to give you all an update on what I've been working on, for anyone interested. But first you have to sit through a bunch of personal garbage I'm putting on the ritz internet for everyone to see because that's what the internet is for.
Despite many people calling 2016 a terrible year, for me personally it was actually kind of nice. In the previous years, I had fallen into a depression of sorts, as is wont to happen to many artists on this site it seems like. I felt like I couldn't do anything very well, be it art, programming, school, or any kind of skill really. There was nothing that I could do well enough to make a living off of it in some way, not even close it seemed. To steal a quote from a certain webcomic about a character dealing with similar feelings of incompetence, it was like my best was everybody else's below average. I grew up saying that my dream job was just something that I enjoyed doing and got paid for, no matter what it was, but during 2014 and 2015 I felt like I didn't enjoy anything that I could actually do as a job and couldn't do as a job anything that I actually enjoyed. Because of that, I felt like I didn't deserve my lot in life, where I have a loving family, my college paid for completely by a trust fund set up by my grandparents, many good friends both in real life and online, and various other aspects that I am so fortunate to have. However, I would tell myself every single day that I was wasting all of it disgusting manner, because if anyone else was in my position they would be more successful or nicer or would otherwise be the kind of person that deserved such gifts. It eventually got to the point where I began feeling that everyone would just be better off without me dragging them down just by being around.
Needless to say, that thought didn't exactly sit well with those around me, and I had that line of reasoning quickly snuffed out with many tears and hugs.
After that, I stopped thinking things that extreme, but I still felt undeserving and pathetic. I couldn't argue with people who loved me unconditionally, but I couldn't bring myself to understand why they even loved me at all in the first place. With no easy way out, I kept carrying on with school, feeling that for all my faults I could at least keep from adding "dropped out of college" to them. Over time, things started getting better, little by little. There was no one big point where I suddenly stopped hating on myself or discovered some major thing that completely changed my perspective, but rather a lot of small things added up over time. I worked harder in school and saw my grades begin to improve, I learned ZBrush and how to sculpt instead of box model, I got to taste a bit of Youtube fame for a short while, and just other parts of life that ended up being worth living through. It wasn't all good, of course, I had my share of relapses back into self-loathing, bouts of bitter jealousy towards those more talented than me--even ones that I considered friends--and points where I demeaned those around me for expressing issues and problems of their own, trying and failing to play psychiatrist instead of just being a friend to them. But after many of those, I came to learn something, whether it be perspective of how others perceive problems of their own that I had no idea they had, or about myself that made me realize that if I wasn't a terrible person, then at worst I was just human.
And this is where 2016 comes in, as looking back on the year, I've had fewer bouts of self-loathing and more points where I felt that I was better than I thought I was. I've discovered new hobbies, things that I get so invested in that I can lose hours on them at a time and be proud of regardless of how much better at them other people out there are. I am still unsure of the future, and my dream of having a job that I really enjoy doing still seems pretty far off, but I don't hate myself anymore. I'm better than I was before, and when I'm not convinced of it, I simply just need to look back and see how much worse I was then. So 2016, at least for me, marks the point where I feel like I'm finally starting to climb out of the hole of depression and hate for myself that I had dug in the years prior, and now I can finally see what's beyond it again.
Anyway, since this is a porn site, I feel I should at least include some information for those of you watching me for that reason and not because of my sappy life story. First off, I apologize for the lack of new content these past few months. Between schoolwork and my scripting project, I haven't had a lot of time or means to make much content. However, said scripting project is almost done, and what it is exactly is a a tool for Maya that I'm writing which will help me create animation rigs for my characters. I am getting very close to the point where I can use it on my characters and still be able to rig/derig them even while I'm adding new features and functions to the script (whereas before, if I wanted to work on the script, I would more often than not have to derig my characters and wait to finish whatever I was working on before I could put the rig back on them), and when I get there, I should be able to make content again. If all goes well, I'll hopefully find the courage to try my hand at animating, and if that happens then I have a couple of ideas I'd definitely like to put in motion. I can't guarantee that they'll be good animations to start out with, but with solid rigs to work with, I'm hoping that I'll have enough fun with it to be motivated to practice and get better as I go. So for those of you who have been patient with me all this time, I want to give you my thanks and hopes for a happy 2017!

So for those of you who have been patient with me all this time, I want to give you my thanks and hopes for a happy 2017!
VR Mega Macro Simulator
Posted 9 years agoThere is a game out there called Universe Sandbox, where the player can watch simulations of anything from planets to entire galaxies and totally screw with them by creating/moving/launching things and generally just playing around.
The game now has a mode where you can interact with things in virtual reality, and as the following video puts it, it apparently gives you a very good sense of size and scale:
What do you guys think? Do you think VR could enhance macro/micro for you?

Anyone Have Advice on Creating Textures?
Posted 9 years agoA big weakness in my modeling knowledge and experience currently is and largely always has been creating good-looking textures. Most of my models have extremely basic color schemes, as I have no idea how to paint details either on the model directly or on a 2D color map. Additionally, I feel that my current method of generating normal maps for details in ZBrush isn't very effective, as it leaves ugly seams and tend to make shadows in certain places disgustingly dark. I feel like I have not really gotten a good foundation for the texturing pipeline, and that I may have jumped into it without consideration for good habits and work practices.
So I would like to ask any 3D modelers out there how you go about creating color and normal maps for your models, and what might be some important dos and don'ts to know about them. What programs do you like to use for texture creation (right now I have GIMP, ZBrush, and Maya, and I am considering getting Blender for its procedural texturing abilities)? How much of it is just being good at painting, and how much of it is proper technique and technical knowhow? If I can't paint for crap, are there any viable procedural or technical methods for creating textures I could use instead? Any advice would be appreciated.
