What Should Hellfarch Do Next?
Posted 10 years agoI've been having a lot of fun rendering pictures of my character Hellfarch toying with
cantstopgrowing's rat character, but since the last picture I've run short on ideas for what to do next. Aside from the two character models, I don't really have anything else to work with, no environments or other character models that I can use in Maya. I could try modeling some things myself, but I would either need a specific scene in mind (so I know exactly what I have to make) or to make a whole environment that could be used for whatever scenarios I could think of, which would be very time-consuming and difficult.
So I am opening this journal to suggestions of all kinds. What sort of scenes or scenarios would you like to see Hellfarch in? Do you know any places I can get 3D assests for Maya (preferably for free)? Or do you have any advice for creating assets of my own quickly and efficiently? Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Closing Down Fullbody Requests and Slowing Down on Busts
Posted 10 years agoWith summer vacation over and school already starting to pile things on, I'm afraid I won't have nearly as much time to screw around in ZBrush as I did over the summer. It's been fun and I've learned a lot, but for the sake of preserving my sanity I'm going to stop doing full body requests. I might still open up requests for busts every now and then, but they will probably take much longer than the couple of days that they've taken in the past, since I'll most likely be doing them on the side of schoolwork and procrastinating from schoolwork.
While requests will be put on the backburner, I think I'm ready to start doing commissions now! They will probably take much longer to do, both because they'll be more detailed and because of school, but I will put my all into them when I find the time. Right now I'm still figuring things out, but I think that around 20 to 40 US dollars is a good starting range. Check my Commission Info for more details, and you can drop me a PM if you have any questions.
Lastly, I just want to say thanks to all of you who have given me love and support over the summer! I never thought I'd actually get slightly good at ZBrush when I first picked it up, but these requests from you all have really sharpened my skills!

Requests and Commissions: Thoughts, Concerns and Ramblings
Posted 10 years agoThis journal is probably gonna be a mess, as I feel the need to dump out all of my thoughts on doing requests and commissions and some angst I've been having with them lately, so be warned.
So as you all know or will now know, I've been doing ZBrush requests over the summer. I've made busts of people's characters, full body turntables, sometimes I've put them in a pose or even made a (crappy) scene to show them off in. It has been fun overall, and I've learned a great deal from it! However, I feel that I am at a crossroads of sorts now. I feel like I've grown to the point where I can start taking commissions, where I can put a lot of time and effort into a model and get compensated for it. At the same time, however, I feel like I'm not getting as much out of requests as I used to. I started doing them in the first place for practice, and at first every bust and turntable was a real challenge.
I can now make simple characters, from busts to bodies, without too much stress for the most part. Things like clothing, small details and poses, however, take up a lot of time and I feel that it isn't worth it to do for free. It may seem like not a big deal; if I'm willing to sculpt the body, then what more is it to add a jacket and pants and maybe have him flex for the ladies/gentlemen? But doing that takes about as long as sculpting the body itself on average, and there is a lot of frustration involved as I do not have as much practice with them yet.
With this comes a problem I see with doing both commissions and requests. While someone can request a simple full body model for free, a commission has them paying for it to have finer details and more effort put in. What if someone requests a full body sculpt, and then commissions me to give it clothing and a pose? Should I charge less for it, since I already made the base model for free, or do I charge full price as if I'd started from scratch? I could stop doing full body requests altogether, but I don't know if that would really persuade people to commission one instead. I don't know how I would go about solving this problem, or if it even really is much of a problem in the first place.
I still want to do requests, and I would also like to get a commission here and there. But while part of me doesn't want to put up a paywall for my content, another part of me doesn't want to be seen as a chump who gives out free stuff to everyone so don't bother commissioning him when you can just make requests. I like ZBrush, and I like making things for people, but I don't like slogging away at something only to get a pat on the back and three more people asking for something else right after. Ideally, I'd like to work on a simple request or two in between bigger projects that I get paid for, but I don't know how to go about balancing the kinds of requests and commissions I'm willing to do and unwilling to do in order to achieve that.
So that was me rambling for four paragraphs. I don't know if someone has already got this kind of thing figured out and I am totally not understanding how to do things, or if this is a legitimate problem for me to work out, but since this all boils down to what you guys want from me and what you're willing to give me in return, I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

Still Doing ZBrush Requests!
Posted 10 years agoHey all! This journal is a reminder that me making stuff in 3D for people hasn't stopped being a thing.
I now have two types of requests: busts, and fullbody characters. You can see how many slots are available for each down below.
RULES FOR REQUESTS
You MUST provide one or more pictures of the character you want me to sculpt as a reference!
For busts, I'll accept multiple reference pictures, but if they're noticeably different in style/shape then you'll have to tell me which one you want me to follow more closely. You can also specify a facial expression if you want; otherwise I'll sculpt them with a neutral/gently smiling face.
For fullbody characters, you must give me a reference showing them from more than one angle, like this or this. I will accept multiple pictures, but not if they're done in different styles! For these requests, I'm afraid I won't sculpt full outfits if the character has one. Maybe an accessory or two, but full clothing and posing just takes too much work to do for free.
WHAT A REQUEST WILL GET YOU
You get a 3D representation of your character/character's head and shoulders! When a request is complete, I render a turntable of it and post it as a .gif on the site. You are welcome to repost the gif yourself so long as you credit me for creating it.
The original model files are also available upon request! There are two formats I can send them in:
The first is a .ztl file, which can only be opened in ZBrush 4R7. This file will have all of the detail and color of the original sculpt, but requires an absurdly expensive program to open with.
The second format is a .obj file, which is a much friendlier interchange format and can be opened by many other 3D modeling programs. This itself comes in two flavors:
Decimated, which preserves the high-resolution detail of the original sculpt but comes without any color, or
Retopologized, which comes with a texture file but has a lower polycount (i.e. it looks a bit chunkier).
If this all sounds good to you, then drop a comment below or sent me a note with your request!

Source 2 Filmmaker!!
Posted 10 years agoSo Dota 2's Source 2 build comes with a version of Source Filmmaker for the engine.
On the one hand, I want to be crazy hyped and excited because SOURCE 2! DYNAMIC IK RIGGING THAT DOESN'T REQUIRE TEDIOUSLY EDITING A PYTHON SCRIP! GIANT MAPS! 64-BIT VERSION! But on the other hand, you need DOTA 2 to run it and I have no idea if regular Source 1 assets are usable in the program.
The new SFM still supports model scaling, though, which means I could have a lot of fun making macro shenanigans, but I don't know if it would be a viable replacement for the regular SFM just yet (largely due to the hangup mentioned above). Has anyone else tried it? Is it worth the price of installing DOTA to use, and will it be able to compete with the old Source Filmmaker?

Opening Up Tentative Full-Body Requests!
Posted 10 years agoHello, everyone! I've gotten a lot of great practice by sculpting busts of your characters, and I think it's now time to move onto the next level. I will now take full-body sculpting requests! However, since these will be a lot more difficult and time-consuming than simple busts, I will only be taking one at a time this time around.
In addition, a solid, accurate reference is now required; it should be a single picture showing the character's full body in two or more angles. Some good examples are works like this and this. I will not accept pictures of the character shown at an angle or perspective that obscures any features somewhere or makes it hard to judge their proportions, nor multiple pictures of the character drawn in different styles!
If the reference is good, however, then I will model the character to the best of my ability and post a turntable of it (I can also send the model files and mpeg of the turntable upon request). If it doesn't turn out to be too strenuous, I may also give the option for you to choose a simple pose for the character as well.

Opening up ZBrush requests!
Posted 10 years agoHi, all! With school finally out of the way and a whole summer of free time on my hands, I feel like a good way to bone up on my ZBrush skills would be to model stuff for others! If you'd like a sculpt of your fursona, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can do it!
For now, I'll only take two requests at a time, but if it doesn't turn out to be too strenuous I might open up more slots.
EDIT: I'll only sculpt busts for these requests, head and shoulders. I might open up the option for full body sculpts once I get more practice, but for now I would like to stick to heads and faces.
EDIT X2 COMBO: You are welcome to repost your request just so long as I'm mentioned somewhere. If you'd like something different than a turntable gif I'd be willing to render something else out, and if you want me to send you the model then I can either send you the obscenely high-polycount version I use for the turntables or I can give you a much more workable, lower-resolution version that you can do whatever you like with.

For People Who Follow Me For My Videos and Gifs
Posted 10 years agoI would like to clarify that this account is, by and large, meant for posting and collecting pornography. If you have watched me for my safe-for-work and non-fetish pictures, then I would recommend following my DeviantArt account instead: http://yoshermon.deviantart.com/ Everything I've posted here that wasn't a fetish picture has been posted there, and will be in the future.
Though no one has said anything yet, I felt the need to post this, as I would like to create more fetishistic and pornographic content in the future, and I want to give a heads-up for those who don't want to see any of that.

Fursona Meme Thing
Posted 11 years agoI saw this from one of
Usernamio5's journals, who apparently got it from
loboraptorlo, who got it from
halally and figured I'd give it a try just for kicks and giggles.
• What is the name of your fursona?
Doctor Iterati Trousers
• Where did the name of your fursona come from?
Take a wild guess.
• What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?
Perentie monitor lizard. I wanted to do a reptilian species but a dragon wouldn't fit his personality and I wanted it to be more specific than just a generic lizard.
• What color is your fursona and why?
Purple, with gray markings. To be honest, those are just simply my favorite colors, and I think they look good together.
• What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your RL personality?
Iterati Trousers was originally a human under a different name, working as a Junior Researcher at the SCP Foundation. One day, however, he got caught up in a containment breach and an SCP displaced him into the
Lamplight_Labs universe; the reality of the universe warped his body into that of an anthro perentie lizard. He soon met Draco Rex, and quickly became a staff member at the labs, donning the pseudonym "Iterati Trousers" as his own in-joke. Due to his time at the Foundation, he is very cautious around objects and experiments that deal with mechanics outside of his current understanding of the world around him, knowing firsthand just how dangerous anomalous objects and events can be--at least, in the SCP universe. Things are a lot safer in this new universe, with physics regarding living beings lax enough that they can not only survive, but thrive in a myriad of environments and situations that would kill ordinary humans several times over. Despite witnessing this firsthand, he refuses to let his guard down. As such, he is viewed as paranoid, always trying to up security measures at the labs and very intolerant of staff who don't follow protocol and cause accidents (especially when it doesn't end up getting them killed). Besides that, however, he is fairly cordial, and has a strong fondness for macros and size-shifters. He also has a mind for science, always wanting to gather thorough data on whatever experiment he is a part of, and enjoys documenting his results and observations.
• What is one item your fursona owns that is significant to you in RL?
Nothing, really. Iterati lives in the Lamplight Labs themselves, sleeping in various places each night and stealing food from the cafeteria to live off of.
• What is one thing your fursona would say to you if you could meet?
"Hey."
• What is one thing you would say to your fursona?
"Sup."
• How has your fursona changed over the years?
He has made probably one of the most significant changes anything can ever make. He used to not exist in years past, but just this last year he now does.
• How long have you had this fursona?
Since just this last year.
• Would you like to be more like your fursona?
Not really. He's more like how I would probably be if I was in his situation, but by and large we are pretty much the same.

Source Filmmaker Not Within Acceptable Upload Policy?
Posted 12 years agoI've recently had nigh my entire gallery taken down a few minutes ago, due to the fact that Source Filmmaker apparently counts as an application or a game, and screenshots of which are forbidden according to the site's AUP. I've done some searching around the forums and this doesn't seem to have been brought up before (or I haven't searched hard enough), so I'm really in the dark here.
Source Filmmaker is a program made explicitly for creating content, and Valve states in no uncertain terms that said content is completely legal to be distributed regardless of assets used, just so long as no copyrighted assets are used in anything used for commercial purposes. Therefore, I do not see why FA should ban submissions made in Source Filmmaker, so long as the user gives proper credit and citation to the assets used.
What do you guys think about this? Is there a solid reason why we shouldn't allow Source Filmmaker screenshots and movies on this site?
