Migrating to Weasyl + others
Posted 12 years agoI'm not "leaving" FA exactly, I just will be using Weasyl as my primary account going forward.
This has nothing to do with the recent drama, and everything to do with the fact that FA is an unbelievably awful site. It's poorly managed, poorly coded, never updates, never meets ANY promises, and it's ugly as sin.
Weasyl, on the other hand, is pretty, usable, the staff quickly responds to comments and are committed to improvement, it's faster, and its responsive design means I can easily use it on my phone. It also has features such as streaming notifications (YAY no more spam of temporary journals / submissions of streaming) and folders.
I in no way believe the person at the center of all the drama is the monster people make him out to be. I do however, think that the situation on FA surrounding him is a catalyst that the fandom has needed for a long time: Motivation for people to finally move.
As terrible as FA is, it's stuck around because people use it, and have used it forever, and don't want to lose what they've got here. That was never going to change unless FA went down completely, or some major event happened that motivated people.
Anyway, long story short, I'll still be on FA, but everything I do (favorite your art, watch you, post my commissions, etc) I will do on Weasyl first, and then on here if I can't do it there.
Additionally! I finally ramped up my Sofurry and Inkbunny accounts as a "just in case they're kinda cool" thing, as well as created a new Deviantart account (I'd had a DA account since LOONG before I was a furry and it needed to be replaced)
FIND ME EVERYWHERE UNDER THE SAME NAME!

I bet you can't guess what my Skype name is.
See you there. Or there. Or over there. Or there. Or even here!

FC post con report
Posted 13 years agoI did some stuff. I bought some things. I spent time with some people. I made some friends. I drank some things. I wore some fur. I didn't do nearly enough of many of these things.
I think I'm going to start trying to focus less on parties and drinking and more on being around the convention...the whole party thing feels like it's getting kinda stale. It's always the same!
All in all, I had a really good time, but not nearly as good of a time as last year.

FC LOLCat Bible Study (game)
Posted 13 years agoSo I've been wanting to do this for a LONG time, and I'm hoping to finally do it at FC. I want to have a Bible study at FC!
But not just any bible study! A LOLCat bible study!
https://twitter.com/i/#!/redclawthe.....com%2FJWo5yLZM
And it'd be a game! For 6-8 people!
Here's how it'll work... The book is separated into segments, basically some of the most well-known stories and passages from the bible are included. We would take turns reading from it out loud. After every chapter, everyone participates in Holy Communion...with vodka. Or some other liquor. (Everyone takes a shot after every chapter).
But here's the kick! You have to do it seriously. If you laugh, you offend the Almighty Ceiling Cat, and you lose the game. The game will continue, chapter by chapter, shot by shot, until only one person has managed to not laugh, and that person is the winner!
I'm hoping to do it on Friday night at 7-8pm. But first, I need to know who's interested. Keep in mind that I have to select no more than 6-8 people, so probably not everyone can join. But feel free to copy my idea! You can get the book on Amazon, or the entirety (yes, the ENTIRETY) of the bible is available at www.lolcatbible.com!
If you're interested in joining the game, comment here, and I'll get back to you soon to confirm you're joining, unless I'm out of spots.
Note: I'll only be letting people I know well enough to be comfortable having in my room. For everyone else, please try it yourselves!

Post-Rainfurrest / Post-otter-party thingie!
Posted 13 years agoI had a pretty awesome con! It felt pretty short, though :( especially because I pretty much lost all of Friday night. More on that later...
So Thursday, I left for the con early morning and took
dosner, whom I'd gotten from the airport the night before. Got checked in and set up, and I brought two big boxes of supplies for my party. I took Dosner and two of his friends to Zoopa for a really tasty lunch <3 Ended up wearing my old fursuit for the evening, went and danced for a while, had a few drinks, and spent a good long while goofing around in the pool.
Friday kinda sucked :( I ate a sandwich at 11am, spent some time in dealer's den and hung around the con out of suit for a while. I had some friends in my room for drinks that evening, ended up having three drinks I think, then suited up to derp around. I noticed the fursuit dance competition was going on right then, so I decided to go straight there, which is when things got bad >.< I could barely stay awake, felt sick to my stomach. At the end of the competition is when I realized I'd completely forgotten to eat, and my last meal had been that sandwich about 10 hours prior, so the only thing in me was alcohol. I spent the rest of the night having incredible stomach pains and just chilling either in bed or around the pool :/
I was better about getting consistent food after that, though I spent most of the con barely eating much. This is the first con where I've EVER forgotten to eat, and I'm not sure why it happened.
For what it's worth, the dance competition was good, and I really enjoyed seeing
nikolai-slovackskavitch dancing in his new suit, and was super surprised and happy to see
razzylee dancing too in her new suit!
So I had to skip the dance and all parties and everything that evening, and only ended up suiting for an hour as I watched the dance competition.
Saturday was the big day. I derped around in suit a bit, swam some, had to spend some time cleaning and getting ready for the party. I ended up going to a friend's party briefly instead of the variety show, and had to leave at 8:30 to pick up the ridiculous sushi order (165 pieces) from Sushi Land for my party starting at 9pm.
Holy hell. The party. I got back at 9:05 (roommates were letting people in because I was slightly late) and my room was already full! I think the party might've been the biggest party of the con, or perhaps second biggest to the KLM party. Special thanks to
nikolai_slovackskavitch for DJing for us! The otter porn slideshow went through my whole otter art collection on the TV throughout the whole party, and that was incredibly popular. It only took about 5 minutes to completely run out of the Honorary Otter gift badges I made; I ended up having exactly the right amount of Certified Otter badges. A little after 10, all 11 bottles of liquor and all the sushi were gone, and everyone was having a good time. At 10:30, though, hotel security came in and told me there was a noise complaint. I guess there were non-furs staying in the room across from mine, which kinda sucked, but it was OK. I wanted to move the party to the pool anyway, because I really wanted to get people swimming. I cleared out the room and a lot of us went to the pool, and I was just about to get in the water, when it happened.
I heard someone bodyslam the gate to the pool twice. As I turned to look, I saw some naked guy jump over the fence, and immediately start sprinting for the pool right through everything in his path, including some furniture. I heard a loud scraping noise and he jumps (or maybe falls) into the pool...I didn't see exactly what he did next, because I figured it was just some guy wanting to streak the pool, and my attention was on figuring out what that scraping sound was. Turned out he dragged a small table with him into the pool and it was sunk at the bottom. After that, I saw people dragging the guy out of the pool, covering him, and just about all of con staff and hotel security show up and close down the pool. So I didn't even get to get wet :(
Sooo the pool party part of the otter party fell through, but the rest was good fun and people had a nice time. I wish I'd gone to the dance that night after, but ended up staying in my room and chatting and playing card games with friends.
Sunday was my day to make up for not suiting much the whole con. After getting food, swimming and making last passes through the dealer's den + charity auction, I decided I was going all-out suiting for the rest of the night. So from 7 PM to 2 AM I was in fursuit nonstop, having an absolute blast at the Dead Dog Dance and hanging around with everyone!
It was overall a fantastic con despite setbacks and I had a wonderful time <3
The otter party must have had at least 100 attendees in total and I'm definitely planning another one next year. However, it was MUCH bigger than I'd anticipated, and I am going to have to make some changes next year to make it work better. I'll either end up limiting attendance, or I'll have to see about making it an outdoor party at the pool, with attendees only passing through the room for drinks.
Thanks to everyone who came and made it so much fun, though!
Until next year!

Otter party last update!
Posted 13 years agoNow with room number! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3869900/
THE SECOND ANNUAL RAINFURREST OTTER PARTY **UPDATE 2**
Posted 13 years ago***UPDATE 2!!!***
The party is in room 2159 on Saturday at 9pm! Tell all teh otters :3
But please don't forget 21+ only!
***UPDATE***
The party is officially on for Saturday starting at 9 PM, after the Variety Show! I will update again when I have the room number!
Hi otters and otter-fans! It's that time again!
I will once again be hosting an OTTER PARTY at Rainfurrest. There was some confusion last year about whether non-otters were allowed. The answer is yes, but I ask that it not just be anyone who feels like showing up for free booze. The party is to celebrate otters! So if you ARE an otter, come! If you just really like otters, come!
If you're under 21 or are offended by otter porn on the room TV, don't come!
There will be ottery snacks, there will be alcohol, there will be otter art/porn slideshow, there will be music, but most importantly, like last year, there will also be swimming!
The party will be on the pool floor and people will be moving back and forth between the pool and the party, so if you come, come ready to swim!
I'm still figuring out the best time. It will either start be Friday night at 8pm or Saturday night at 8 or 9 PM, and will continue until it dies off (or the hotel shuts us down). By all means let me know what you think of both times!
Spread the word to otters! I want to see as many otters as I can there! :D

Posted 14 years agoRainfurrest this year was a pretty interesting convention for me. I didn't do most of the things I normally do at conventions...in fact, I ignored the convention entirely except for the My Little Pony panel, and the Dealer's Den / art show. This is the first convention I've ever been to where I skipped the variety show. I didn't take one single photo either, and barely fretted over fursuits around the con o.O
Mostly I just relaxed, swam a lot (at least twice a day), had my party, and danced, but only a little of that. I fursuited for maybe 3 or 4 hours total the entire convention, which is a record low for me o.O
I'm not sure why. Something about the con felt off. Maybe it felt too spread out, too small for its new location, or maybe I just felt like chilling more.
Actually, what I wanted to do most this year was just dance and snuggle with cute fursuits, but I didn't get much of that either :P I did get a little, but I sure wanted more.
That's not to say I didn't have a great weekend, though. Instead of meeting new people and making new friends, I spent a lot of time with old friends. Had good drinks, good food, a great party, tons of fun swimming.
Hands-down the best part of the convention was my Otter Party. I commissioned
dior for awesome artwork of me,
booga
terminotaur and
dosner that I printed 5 11x17 prints of on super high quality poster paper - one for the door to my room and one for each person in the room. That went over VERY well - it was a surprise to all my roomies, and they were all super happy, and I could hear everyone walking by my room commenting on how cool it was :D
The otter party itself could not have gone better. I ended up spending about $400 in all for the party, between the incredible amount of booze, the snacks, and the 165 pieces of sushi I ordered. The food and drink were all just the right amount to feed the 40+ people who showed up, and
nikolai-slovackskavitch brought his laptop and audio equipment to DJ for us (he did a really amazing job too), and as an added touch, he had an otter porn slideshow playing on the TV the whole time!
After a couple of hours, and people had had their fill of food and drink, a large part of the party moved to the pool (my room had pool access), and we all went swimming. It was the most fitting end for the party!
Thanks again to everyone who showed up, and I will DEFINITELY be doing another one next year. If I can find a suitable room to host it in, I may throw one at FC as well!
After the party I went to the dance and had a nice dance with a cute fursuit for a short bit, but other than that, not one person ever seemed interested in dancing with me. I go to dances to dance with other suiters, but they never seem interested =( I hoped my new suit would get more interest. Ended up giving up and wandering around a bit because I was bored.
I got some nice prints from
blotch. I had wanted to get some stuff from the art auction, but everyone I wanted went for stupid high prices, so I didn't.
Sunday night,
zeebo introduced me to 99 Bananas, and he got me pretty drunk off of the stuff. It's one of the few liquors I can drink straight, and I loved it <3 afterwards we went and had a fantastic dinner at Spencer's. The food was great, the prices weren't too bad, and the service was incredible. I'll definitely go there again!
Had a room party after that in
groggyfox's room, but I knew I'd reached my limit, so I didn't drink. I mostly just snuggled in an impromptu otterpile and watched
moka be drunker than I've ever seen anyone ever, and he barely had anything to drink. It was pretty fun.
Caught a cute suiter I've always adored on my way back to my room and invited him to come cuddle in my room. That ended up being really fun and relaxing, and a great way to end the night for me. Was really glad for that <3
Monday, we just packed up and went back to my house briefly, before getting lunch at IHOP and finally taking
dosner back to the airport. I randomly decided afterwards to go back to the hotel. I hardly said goodbyes to anyone before I left, and just wanted to see if anyone was still there to give hugs to and say goodbye. I ended up spotting
erro in the lobby. I sat with him and had a nice, very long chat for hours. Always liked that about Erro, I can have great conversations with him for hours on end. Not many people I can talk to like that.
Found out Erro's good friends with someone I'd been wanting to be friends with, so he invited him over and the 3 of us got dinner at Famous Dave's, and then watched a movie back at my house.
And that was it for my con. I'm not really feeling PCD, partially because I love my new job enough that I don't mind being back.
Thanks to those who helped make my weekend great fun! Look forward to FC, and RF again next year <3

Enjoyable trip
Posted 14 years agoThis morning I got up bright and early at 8am to make the trek to downtown Seattle. The reason is that I wanted to get used to the trip down for work before I have to make it for real.
My new job will be right in the heart of downtown, and parking is super expensive. Not to mention paying for gas to commute and sitting in lousy I-5 traffic in rush hour both ways. My preferred alternative is to walk 1 mile to the Light Link Rail station, taking a 40-minute ride to downtown, and walking two blocks to my building. I've never used public transit before, though, so I wasn't sure how it worked or what to expect.
Turns out it's actually an incredibly pleasant trip! A brisk 10-15 minute walk to the station, and a totally pleasant ride to town on a rail that completely bypasses all traffic. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 the other day to keep with me both for work and for the ride, and I have to say, there's nothing like commuting to work while reading a book or reading news or yakking on Twitter. It didn't feel like a commute, it just felt like having free time.
When I got to Seattle, I didn't have anywhere to go, so I just walked to my building to see how far it was, and then hung out at Starbucks. I've never just sat and chilled at Starbucks before, and it was pretty nice. Parked myself in a really comfy chair and browsed the web / news / twitter etc on my tablet for a while. Relaxing and charming!
The worst part was the walk back home from the station. It was almost all uphill, so it was kind of exhausting, but I will get used to it, and my body will thank me for it in the future. Looking forward to 2+ miles of walking a day, plus whatever walking I do around town after work!
I'm going to really enjoy this job and the environment. I've wanted to live the city life for so long!

New job!!!!
Posted 14 years agoSome of you who know me know that for the last 3 years I've been working from home doing web development. And some of you might also know that I completely hate working from home!
It's boring, it's lonely, it's frustrating, I have to maintain my own equipment and software, and I'm at the mercy of my shitty Comcast internet connection. I waste more than half of every workday browsing the internet and chatting on messengers and Twitter, because if I didn't have some social interaction, I'd go insane.
Being stuck in my bedroom, alone, every day while I work is a lonely, miserable existence, and leaves me feeling like a recluse.
A few weeks ago, I hit a breaking point where I spent all day unable to focus, and just about broke down. I realized how completely miserable I had become with my work situation! I had been applying to new jobs for over a year, and had many interviews, but no job offers. On top of working from home, all this time I'd been stuck with a shitty salary for what I'm doing, and some of my friends were actually surpassing my salary with no education, working jobs that required no special skills.
I've always lived month to month, just because I couldn't afford to both save money and have a life. It got better earlier this year, when I changed from one work from home job to another for a $13,000 increase in pay, so I could finally start saving a little.
BUT NO MORE! The day I had my near-breakdown, I got in touch with a recruiting agency (which I had been avoiding due to poor experience with recruiting agencies in the past). Two days later, I had a meeting with the agency, and they applied me for two amazing jobs. Two days after that, I had an interview with one of them, and the next week I had an interview with the other! In less than two weeks, I had more interviews, and both places offered me the jobs!
The first offered me the job before I had my final interview with the second. I was ecstatic, it was a $17,000 increase in pay over my current job ($30,000 over what I was making earlier this year). But I had to tell them I needed to see what happened with my other interview. And, unbelievably, I ultimately ended up declining it, because the second one offered me $10,000 more than the other offer!
So, now, in two weeks, I'm going corporate, for a major national retail chain, in their huge office building in downtown Seattle, for more money than I ever imagined I'd make in my entire life. I still can't believe this is happening!

I challenge you to watch this and not laugh
Posted 14 years agoI bet you can't do it!
Angry rant about "DNH", hypocrites, and assholes.
Posted 14 years agoI don't let what other people say online get to me. Usually. I take the stance that their opinion means nothing to me and has no effect on me in any way. That's why I'm not bothered by trolls at all.
But not when people say things publicly that actually can have a negative impact on me, or my friends.
Someone just set me off on Twitter in a way that hasn't happened in a long time. The last time I got set off like this, a really adorable photo was posted somewhere of a fursuiter hugging a child. The child was thrilled! And then furries began posting constantly "That child's gonna get raped!", and other such things implying the child is in danger of sexual abuse because he's hugging a fursuit.
This was being posted by FURRIES.
Seriously, the last god damn fucking thing the fandom needs is its OWN MEMBERS publicly enhancing the stereotype that fursuiters are sexually dangerous. I'm a member of a public fursuiting group, and we entertain children all the time, innocently, to make them smile and laugh.
Today, a local furry posted on Twitter to everyone at Anthrocon, telling them, that if they see any suits that have holes in the groin area, to take names and photos and post them on the DNH ("Do Not Hug") list.
Not fursuits that are publicly displaying videos of them having sex in suit on sites like Xtube. No, he wants people to take photos of suits they find that MIGHT be used for sex. He wants people to invade their privacy and, based off of assumptions and stereotypes, declare to the world that they're dirty and not safe to touch, and make their private life public.
I know a number of furs with such holes. Some of them are used for urination. Some of them are used for sex. Some of them are not really used at all. But as long as they're keeping them clean, and are discreet, it's harmless. Obviously if they're cumming all over their suit and then going out to hug children, that's a problem - but you should not be making that assumption. Most of them keep their suits clean, and then it's just a piece of clothing. Let's say I like to have sex with jeans on, should I not wear those jeans around kids? It's not like you're whipping it out around anyone. Unless you are. THEN there's a problem.
But mostly they are discreet, clean, and private about it. And they want to keep it that way.
He wants to defame them and call them unclean based on what they do privately in the bedroom. Does this sound familiar? It should. People used to - and sometimes still do - label homosexuals as pedophiles based entirely on what they do privately in the bedroom. OH MY GOD THIS MAN LIKES TO HAVE SEX WITH OTHER MEN, DON'T LET HIM AROUND YOUR CHILDREN!
Oh my god that made me angry.
Yeah, you who said it, you know who you are. Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you.

For the love of god stop panicking
Posted 14 years agoFA is so fucking fickle about this, they get any idea about OMG HAXXORZ and everyone starts to panic. Like when half of FA stopped using PM's entirely because of a hacking incident.
But this is ridiculous. This isn't even a hack, this is an exploit that's mostly harmless.
I keep seeing people posting journals saying OMG DONT CLICK LINKS IN JOURNALS OR YOU GET HACKED OMGGZZ. One person said ANY LINK COULD BE A HACK!
This was one link, one site, that one clown made with a Javascript that sends a posted form back to FA from your own browser. It's not stealing your password, it's just having your browser post a bit of information to FA, which FA then reads as a journal post, and it only works because you're already logged in, and because FA recognizes it as coming from your browser.
It's just a silly internet prank that can't do any real harm, so stop panicking and for the love of god don't assume that every link on every journal on FA is a threat just because of this.

Califur 2011 Con Report
Posted 14 years agoI'm back from Califur and back to my normal life now. I had a really fun time! I'll break it down day by day
TL:DR version:
Had lots of fun. The con was uneventful and kind of dull, which was perfect, because the furs at the con were awesome. I almost entirely ignored the actual convention and spent my time hanging out with the wonderful California furs and made a lot of new friends. I definitely want to go again
Friday:
Super early flight out, had to get up at 5:30am. My roommate
rover-marek took me (thanks!), and my flight left at 6:50am.
Because my fursuit's whiskers are very sensitive, I will never pack my fursuit head. Flying alone with a fursuit head as a carry-on is an interesting experience. Get a lot of strange looks, and a lot of people asking questions, and a lot of smiles and giggles. It was really fun, actually. Even TSA excitedly asked me what it was for (not suspiciously, they just thought it was awesome). The flight attendants immediately asked me to put it on when I got on the plane, and I had to be the responsible one and not hold up the line of people boarding to put it on.
I landed at SNA at 9:30am, waited a bit for
groggyfox and
dosner to pick me up at the airport (I could've just taken a shuttle for free, but I didn't realize that until after they'd left). The first thing we did after bringing our stuff to the room was head out to get greek food for lunch, and then to Safeway (or Von's as they call it down there) to pick up supplies like snacks, gatorade and alcohol. I have never bought snacks to keep in the room at a con before, but I'm really glad I did, as those cheeze-its ended up being entire meals more than once. There's not a whole lot of eateries within walking distance of the con, and I didn't have a car.
When we got back, we went down to registration. Reg took freaking forever. It was retarded. The line for pre-regs was long and not moving at all, and the line for non pre-reg was out the door.
growly pulled me and
dosner out of the line and put us at the front because we were one of the very few people who followed registration instructions and printed our registration confirmation out ahead of time. So we left the guy we were hanging out with in the line to go to the front, quickly got through registration, and waited for them to print our plastic badges. That's when the bullshit started: the printer goofed up, then they fixed it and continued printing badges. They kept calling names and handing off badges, and we noticed people behind us in line were getting theirs before us. We had waited about 20 minutes before I asked the printer why we haven't gotten ours yet, and he blew me off and just said he's backed up and getting to it (not even listening to my statement that people BEHIND us in line got theirs ages ago, and everyone I asked waited less than 5 minutes). We waited another 10 minutes, and I ask someone else, who realizes they'd completely skipped both of our badges.
Fuck.
So we'd been standing there for 30 minutes for nothing. They put us back to the front of the line, which ended up being directly in front of the person we were directly behind originally, before they put us in the front of the line the first time. Got our badges in moments after that.
Then we find out that all of the conbooks, shirts, and event tickets were only available in the dealer's den, and not at registration. So we go into the dealer's den and wait in ANOTHER long line to pick up the shirts and cabaret tickets and conbooks that came with our sponsor badges.
Once that was finally over, I finally took a shower, and me and
dosner jumped into fursuit at 4 pm. We decided on a policy: We take at least a shot of liquor every time we get into suit. It was a fun policy indeed. We roamed around for a bit, and then at 5 we headed to the fursuit lounge so I could sign up for the pet auction.
Pet auction was another mess for me. After signing up, they told me to wait in the lounge, because they were going to start moving us backstage in the main ballroom to get ready. So we finally go backstage, told us what was gonna happen and all the rules, etc, and at 6pm the auction starts. I ended up being #3 to auction off out of I think 26 total. It ended up being really disappointing, very few people bid on me, and I only sold for $25. Some people who didn't even have suits sold for $50, and one guy I'd never heard of went for $510. I was back in the lounge by 6:20, and had to wait around in there for over an hour and a half doing nothing while the rest of the people got auctioned off.
Eventually I decided to leave the lounge and wander for a bit, and as luck would have it, the moment I left the lounge was the same moment
drex150 and
kipper got to the hotel (which was a total surprise, since Drex told me he wasn't going to the con :P)
at about 8, my owner comes in with the other owners to pay and pick me up, and tells me he just wanted a photo and a hug and then let me go.
Well fuck again. There go my plans for the evening xD
Not the owner's fault at all. He was a super nice guy, and it was great of him to donate $25 to charity just for a photo. But ALL of my friends had gone out to dinner without me, and I was left alone, bored and hungry (here comes the cheeze-it dinner) after having waited the last 3 hours to be someone's pet for the evening, and expecting to spend the next few hours hanging out with my owner. So I ended up romping around in fursuit for a while, then back to my room to cool off for a bit, eat cheeze-its and drink booze. At some point my friends came back and we all drank, and I headed back down to suit again until like 12-1am. I was in suit for like 8 hours that evening!
dosner went to go help shoot a video for the cabaret show, so I went down out of suit to chill and chat until about 3 am.
Saturday:
We slept in for a bit, then finally went out for food, dealer's den visit, and roaming around until the fursuit parade at 2. We walked to California PIzza Kitchen with some friends, had some delicious pizzas, and got back with just barely enough time to suit up for the parade. The parade was leaving just as we got down to it! I followed what has become my tradition of rounding up every otter in the parade to go together - which was just me and
kiswara this time around. No sign of
panthesurfingotter and
drex150 showed up after the parade was underway.
FNL (the variety show) started RIGHT after the parade, so we didn't even have time to get out of fursuit. We headed for the line to get into the show, and it wasn't clear whether there was a special early entrance line for sponsors and patrons, so I asked one of the main staffers (the guy who auctioned me off) if there was or not. He said he loves to support sponsors and he likes me, so he'd let me and Dosner in early. We ended up getting in the front row, which was really fun. Kiswara had forgotten his badge, so he had to go get out of fursuit and get his badge before coming down. We saved a spot for him in the front row, but apparently staff had closed the doors and were refusing to let anyone else in, because the show was full :( I even went outside to see if I could find him out there, but he'd already left.
After the show we got out of suit and found Kiswara again, and went with a huge group to go to a nice curry place for dinner. While there, we found out that while the Cabaret show starts at 9, seating starts at 8 - we found this out at 8:15.
Well, fuck again.
We rush back and get there at about 8:45. Turns out that show actually DOES have a dedicated sponsor line for early entry, but it was too late. So we just go find the best seats we can.
The cabaret show was...interesting. There were some really funny skits, and a few strip shows. But the strip shows were all female, and the only nudity ever seen were boobs. In fact, there were almost no male performers out of suit, except a couple guys doing Flow with staves. The fursuit skits were cute though, and not being restricted by PG-13 was fun. The big problem though is that they waited FOREVER between acts for people to start donating money, sometimes as long as half an hour of the MC talking while strippers got tips for charity, before taking out the next act. The show altogether lasted 3 hours - didn't end until midnight. I was the only one in my group who didn't leave early.
After I got out of the show, I found Kiswara again and invited him to come drink with us. I headed back to my room, got really drunk, had fursuit cuddles and a generally good time. Didn't go to bed until 6 am!
Sunday:
Got up, got coffee, felt like shit for a few hours. I fursuited for a little bit, hung out a little, got lunch at..don't even remember where. I went swimming for a few hours with Dosner, Drex and Kipper (4 otters swimming, go figure) in the hotel's beautiful half-indoor half-outdoor pool and hot tub. The con was over by mid afternoon, and we all left the hotel to go to Laguna Beach. 3 people were fursuiting, the rest of us just wandered the beach for a few hours. It was really beautiful, and I hadn't seen a real beach in years. Got to see wild dolphins playing in the waves, too. At 8:30 we got dinner at BJ's, which was really very fun and we had a great time. Finally got back to the hotel at midnight, at which point all that was left to do was pack and have a little to drink as we chilled with friends. We let Drex and Kipper stay in our room since our other two roommates had left already, and they didn't have a room for the night.
Monday:
Got up at 6:30am and Drex and Kipper took me to the airport, then flew home. My con was over D:
Thanks again to all the awesome furs I met and old friends I saw. It was a really fun, relaxing, and much needed, weekend

How well does my suit stand against other otters?
Posted 14 years agoI'm not looking for any ego-stroking here. I'm genuinely curious.
I'm just wondering, when you think of otter fursuits, who comes to mind first?
Who's your favorite otter fursuit?
How often do you see my suit mentioned, or see it on Youtube, or elsewhere?
How would you say my suit compares to the best otter suits out there?
Don't suck up to me and don't say me just to be nice. When my suit was built, I considered
mozee to be the most adorable otter fursuit out there (that I'd seen). I'm pretty picky about how otters are built in suits, and it was one of the very few at the time that actually did them justice. So my goal was to be just as cute as him! I think over time as my suit has evolved it's reached that goal, and that I've done a moderately good job of playing the part.
Now, thanks to videos posted by
kijanilion of the many, many public fursuit outings I've been a part of, I've had a number of people - complete strangers - tell me, when they see me in person, that they've admired my suit for a long time. Once, I saw a fursuit that I thought was really beautiful, and I went to go chat with him, and the suit I was myself admiring immediately told me he'd admired ME on youtube. It was a pretty bizarre and cool feeling!
And more recently, the owner of one of my favorite otter suits in the world, personally told me I'm his favorite. If I hadn't been in suit he would've seen me blushing.
Redclaw v1.75 is nearing its convention retirement. I still plan to wear him to outdoor public events, and maybe he'll make an occassional appearance at conventions (probably worn by others), but it'll soon be replaced by a whole new suit that matches my actual fursona much better. The suit had a wonderful run, and I'll treasure it forever. Now I just want to know how much of an impression he made on everyone else!

Furry dating reminds me of high school dating
Posted 14 years agoNot that I dated in high school...
but I think the concept is the same. High school dating seems to have a lot of drama around it, and in a lot of ways is a social status thing. Everyone's always talking about who's dating who, whenever someone breaks up everyone knows about it. And I believe a big source of the drama comes from when a couple breaks up and one of them starts dating one of the other's friends, or drama between the two causes friends to have to choose sides.
I believe the reason for all of this is simple: High school is a closed environment, where everyone knows everyone. Students spend all day amongst each other. They start to date each other, shit happens, they break up, they date someone else, who inevitably the other knows in some way or other.
Furries are very similar; we're a pretty tight community, and there's a lot of drama around relationships. So many furs know so many other furs, you frequently end up with people you know knowing other people you know.
Not really coming to any significant conclusions or anything here. I just wanted to word an observation I've made.

Otter's FC 2011 Con Report
Posted 15 years agoI had a wonderful convention, and I'll break it down day by day :D
Wednesday:
Since I live so close to the airport, I had SO many furs stay at my house and leave their cars here for the convention.
errowolf,
littlemushu,
booga,
kijanilion and
yaoivixenboi were here that night. We had a ton of fun playing pool, drinking and playing smash brothers :D
Thursday:
My roommate
rover-marek was kind enough to take me and
littlemushu to the airport early morning. We had a thankfully uneventful flight to SJC and touched down at about 11:30am, and
thegreencoon picked us up and took us to the hotel, where we arrived at about 12:30. I immediately went to register for our room, and they said it wasn't ready yet but they'd put a "rush" on it to get it done ASAP. Official check in time wasn't til 3, but we had no problem checking in at noon last year. But whatever. They said they'd call us when the room was ready, and to check back in an hour.
So we waited in the lobby..and waited...and waited. An hour and a half went by, and I went to wait in line again to check on my room. Still not ready. I continued to sit around and wait until 3pm, and waited in the (long) line for a third time to check on my room. Still not ready. They gave me a voucher for a free drink at the bar, which I happily took and got a delicious washington apple martini that got me mildly buzzed for a short bit.
At some point I met up with
evolus and his group, and Murrkurie, and Klickitat and Matrices, and we all sat together waiting for our rooms.
I had gotten a text earlier from the Australian rooming with me,
reylith, that he'd landed in SFO but his fursuit was missing. After spending some time looking for it, he learned it was lost by China Air (FFFUUUUUU), so he proceeded to shuttle down to SJC without it, finally meeting up with me in the lobby.
At like 4:30 they finally called me and told me my room was ready. Everyone I knew had gotten their rooms hours earlier, except for
chaosreign. I went to wait in the room registration line a 4th time, only to learn it had quadroupled in length, and con registration was to become open to non pre-reg in 30 minutes - so I went to go through con registration with
reylith before getting my room. Con registration was pleasantly short compared to the 3 hours I had to wait last year!
Hotel registration line was shorter when I got back, so I finally got my room and was ready to go at around 5:30 pm, and shortly after
dosner finally got there. Yay! Just in time to get dinner and finally go fursuiting.
I honestly don't remember what I did the rest of that night. I remember going to the dance for a while and meeting up with
terminotaur
Friday, Saturday and Sunday:
These days are all a blur to me, I can barely remember what happened on what day. So I'm going to write it all up together! I got up to hit up the dealer's den at about 11am and picked up
kyell's new book Isolation Play, which I can't wait to read. I also bought a couple of prints, an original sketch of an otter. I also bought my first Bad Dragon, medium Razor the Doberman. I've always been curious about them, and this one was a super good deal (it had a mistake in the mold so small that I never would have noticed it had they not told me it was there), so it was super cheap.
reylith bought me a metal badge of my commission from Skrawl!
I went to the art show and found
hbruton's Otter Collage, which I wanted to buy, but I wanted to browse around more before bidding. I came back a few hours later, and it was just gone. I looked all over the gallery at least 3 times and couldn't find it. I was sadface otter :(
dosner,
terminotaur and I went swimming in the pool Friday or Saturday evening, which was REALLY cold but refreshing. We heard that there was a rec center on the 3rd floor with a steam room, so the 3 of us headed down there to check it out. We ended up using the steam room every day afterwards to end our days, because it was the most wonderful way to relax at the end of the day, and it was open 24 hours.
I went to Leo's party on I think Friday. It was fun, and had a wonderful amount of booze, but I think it was way too crowded to be a lot of fun. I got nice and tipsy, though.
I met up with a group of bay area furs at the front of the line for the fursuit dance competition, and we got to sit in the second row. I thought the dances were OK, two particular fursuits really stood out to me...the brown one with the green mane, who I really wanted to win, because of all the dancers, he was the one who really made use of his costume. He used his tail a lot in the dance and was very sexy about it, and I really enjoyed it! The one who actually won was my second choice, a beautiful tiger suit from Russia. His backflip was pretty impressive, but it popped open a certain hole in his crotch that I'm sure he didn't want to be open at the time :P That made me giggle.
The fursuit parade on Saturday was lots of fun. I had been telling every otter I could find to meet me in the parade for Ottercon 2011. All of the otter fursuits banded together to go in the parade at once, and we ended up with 8 of them. I'm sure I'm out of icon uses by now, so I'll just list names: Me, Angry Otter (Unition), Scrimno, Pan, Drex, Terminotter, Kiswara, and Macci (who apparently ended up way behind us)
Ended up getting really good video of the fursuit dances, the masquerade and FC:U that I'll post later.
Sunday night, we had a GREAT room party put on by
scrimno in his room. It was the otter party! We had I don't even know how many otters show up, including almost every otter fursuit at the convention. There was booze and ottersnacks (Kippered Seafood Snacks - basically sardines. Delish!). Had a long fursuit cuddle pile with otter suits <3
I left the otter party to go dance for a while, and when I was coming back, while I was waiting for the elevator, we heard a very loud crash come from one of the elevator shafts. We quickly summoned security and hotel staff, who shut down the elevators. Apparently the elevator broke and went into freefall for 3 floors before the emergency brakes caught it. Why did it break? Because the people in the elevator were fucking idiots and piled 26 furs into it, apparently. It was caught on video (they were recording "ElevatorCon 2011"). They got stuck in the elevator for about an hour.
I met a lot of bay area furs, and spent most of my time hanging out with them all weekend, and got in lots of quality time with
dosner!
Monday:
Slept in pretty late, mostly hung out in the room. At 7:30pm Reylith's fursuit FINALLY arrived at the hotel, and we all jumped into suit and went out together. I'm so glad Reylith got a chance to suit at FC! We danced at the dead dog dance for a while, roamed for a while, but I was feeling really icky after suiting so much, so I was only out for like 2 hours.
Tuesday:
Really dull day, but not bad. Dosner and Rocky had to leave on Monday night, so it was just me and Reylith Tuesday morning, until he left at 10am. I was left to clean the room myself, which I did quite thoroughly. I'm anal about making sure the room looks almost as good when we leave as when we got in. All the cleaner had to do was vacuum, pick up the towels I left on the bathroom floor and the trash which I left in bags by the door, and change the bedding.
I hung out in the lobby with Mushu for a few hours, then we went into the steam room for the last time to relax before leaving the hotel. We went to scope out the 3 new hotels for FC 2012, and the convention center. The Mariott is DEFINITELY the place to stay: its decor is just ridiculously beautiful and it fits a furry convention perfectly. The Hilton was all business, decor was all gray tones, though they had some fantastic modern art on the walls. The Santa Clara was boring and old fashioned.
The convention center itself is huge, has an arcade and a big deli, and consists mostly of one long corridor with two levels, very big and open. All of the meeting rooms are bunched together in one corner, so you won't have to walk all over to find panels; they're all there in one spot. There's a beautiful fountain in front of the convention center, which I'm sure will be the end of the fursuit parade next year. There will be great photos.
Mushu and I finally got a taxi to the airport, waited two hours to get on our plane, and had an uneventful and relaxing trip home.
TLDR:
I had a great time and met a lot of wonderful people, and I can't wait for FC2012. Look for my new fursuit next year! And I'm going to enter the masquerade!
