Posted 10 years agoWhen people say "I'm a self taught artist uwu" and expect that means that they are somehow better or did more hard work than people who did art at college or at university or an art school.
Nope we don't get shown how to draw
we don't get given amazing tutorials that you cant find outside of art schools
we don't get told the secret of the universe
You know what happens in an art class?
We draw.
That's literally it.
In art classes we don't get tutorials that are any different than you can find on the internet when it comes to light sources or anatomy. In fact a lot of art classes don't even give you tutorials they just set up something for you to draw and tell you to draw it over and over again from different angles and shit.
Half the tutorials my art teachers have given me were literally taken from the internet and printed out for us and not even made by the teacher themselves.
So some of you might say "Oh but you get constant feedback on your art by professionals!"
Fuck no.
You know who gives me feedback on my art?
Fucking other students thats who.
The teachers rarely ever tell you anything about your work, sometimes if they get bored they will hover behind you and point out a mistake and then walk off to the next person, but that's about it.
And I suppose you would say that going to art school makes you a better artist.
Nope.
Half of my class were fucking tracers and copiers.
And guess how much better they got at the end of the two years?
Not. one. fucking. bit.
Why?
Because they fucking didn't do shit.
They copied art for their art assignments, they dicked around in lessons and they put little to no effort into every drawing they did. They came into art school shit, and they left shit.
You only get out of your art what you put in.
You put in little you get out little improvement.
you put in a lot you get out lots of improvement.
Art school or not, we are ALL self taught artists. We all teach ourselves how to draw through the help of tutorials, and effort and hard work. Art school doesn't make you a better artist. You do. So stop acting like you are somehow superior to the people who have put not only the time and effort into their art but their money as well.

Posted 10 years agoSo my mothers found another tumour on her back. Shes going in for surgery on Tuesday. Just to let you all know.

Posted 10 years agoSo its been a while with me on a semi-hiatus. My mother is doing fine, she's able to walk relatively properly now, the cancer was completely removed from her leg - no need for radiotherapy or anything like that - and she's gone back to work. Her leg has a slight indent in it now but nothing that looks too bad. She's no longer needed to self-inject. Everything is great!
And on another note I finally came out to my parents and they are cool with everything! It happened yesterday and everything turned out a million times better than expected. I'm very happy c:
Also my landlord is allowing me to get a dog!
Now that I'm back I'm gonna get back onto doing adoptables and personal art and everything. It should be fun!HOSPITAL
Posted 10 years agoMy mum has had her operation, she hasn't been talked to by the doctor yet but she has both legs and she ain't dead so we are assuming the operation on her cancer went well.

Posted 10 years agoSo when I see an adoptable I like I would totally spend 200+ usd to buy this magnificent adoptable I will probably never use but when it comes to buying food or idk a Prosthetic dick to make me feel better about my dysphoria for the same price I would have spent on the adoptable (I didn't actually win it but fuck I tried) I'm like noooo that's wayy too pricey I'll have to wait and save up for that.

Posted 10 years agoI don't want to be called 'she' anymore. I don't feel comfortable with it like I used to be. Seeing someone refer to me as she just kind of feels... Distant? I just don't feel like that's who I am. Not to mention the fact that if I say 'Its all good' or 'He/She/They I don't mind' every single person refers to me as a She and She only. There is only one person who refers to me as a he. So yeah sorry for any inconvenience! Its okay if you mess up just correct yourself and move on. I understand that it can be hard to re-learn what to call someone, that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt if you do it but I do understand that people make mistakes and I wont blame you for it. c:

Posted 11 years agoOkay so I understand getting a MYO or an adoptable and re-selling it for what you spent on them, fine thats cool. People who add on the price of all commissions of that character is cool. But people adding price for their OWN artwork they drew for that character is a no go. YOU did not spend money to get this drawing that YOU drew. You shouldn't be allowed to charge people for your drawings of your character because you didn't have to pay for it.
That is literally you making money off of selling your character. If you are gaining more money than you have spent on that character you are making money off of that character, its as simple as that.
The majority of adoptable artist rules state they don't want you making money off of their hard work.
If the Artists rules state that you can add the price of COMMISSIONS that doesn't mean add the "price" of YOUR OWN ARTWORK/S! So please if you are thinking of adding the price of your own art to the mix contact the Artist first (if their rules don't state it already clearly) if you can add your 'base commission' price. But don't assume your art (that you spent NO money on) counts as a commission. That's like adding money onto the price for free fanart...Toyhou.se Invite Code Raffle
