General | Posted 13 years agoNon sequitur Theater: Dreams
General | Posted 13 years agoToo long for a Twitter (not that I have one in the first place), not interesting enough for a Facebook post (or one of those), and I don't have a Tumblr or Blog, so here it is:
I've never been able to replicate a dream, that is, having a dream one night and then either having it again or picking up where the last dream left off. Partially that's because I hardly even remember the dreams that I do have (maybe once in a blue moon do I remember), but otherwise I typically forget a dream not too long after I wake up. I've tried it with a couple dreams that I've actually remembered, but nothing comes up.
What I have done, though, is been in the middle of a dream, get woken up by something, only to go right back to bed and continue having the dream. At that point, I'm still kind of in a dream state and the dream is still fresh in my mind. While thinking about it, I think that's really the only way to re-have a dream or to revisit it; you need to still have the dream very fresh in your mind and be in the same dream state in order to continue it. Otherwise, you go through the day, picking things up into your short-term memory that your brain has to process into your long-term memory when you sleep, and probably having other dreams (and at that point, you probably don't even fully remember the dream anyway).
Just some thoughts I had earlier today, coupled with wanting to post a new journal. Nothing really new to report, unfortunately, and it's too early to make any kind of Christmas journal post.

Since everyone is getting on their political soap-box...
General | Posted 13 years agoHow about we talk about something that doesn't piss people off or we could talk about something fun that happened today that doesn't involve politics?
I MAY have gotten a job. I really don't know with 100% certainty yet if I'm gonna be able to do it.
A nice guy who runs a home business needs some help getting an online presence for his products (he's the only maker of winter golf shoes in the US, apparently) and a lot of what he's asking is basic updating his website and making sure the stuff on Amazon, Buy, Sears, etc. is displaying right. He also needs work done with flat files, and that's kind of over my head since nearly all of my web-development training has just been website formatting and HTML; still, here's hoping that I can do what he's asking for and the job becomes permanent.
My headache also broke a minute ago as I was writing this, so that's good, too.
Anything you all wanna share?

Graphics Card halp!
General | Posted 13 years agoMy computer is currently rocking a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics card, but I'd been having some graphics problems (broken images when they try and load, videos not working right, etc.) and in talking with
a while back, he said that there was a problem with my graphics card.
I still don't have a job yet, and my graphics card seems to be getting progressively worse (can't even play Skyrim anymore), but I'm trying to plan ahead and figure out what kind of graphics card would be a good step-up from what I'm currently working with at a price hopefully around $200. The GeForce website doesn't really help much, since I can't compare my current graphics card to the other cards they have available on the "compare products" thingy.

WHO: Shiuk, Shiuk Salamander
WHERE:
, transaction took place at RainFurrest 2011
WHAT: Digital Art priced at $80 (NSFW, details in image Email_August_2012.png )
WHEN:
September 24, 2011 (RainFurrest 2011) - Last day I was going to be available at the convention, bought commission from Shiuk and paid in full up front.
December 1, 2011 (FurAffinity Notes) - First checkup on the status of commission. Timely reply later that day.

May 18, 2012 (FurAffinity Notes) - Request for commission status update. No reply.
June 21, 2012 (FurAffinity Notes) - Request for commission status update or refund. No reply.
August 6, 2012 (Email exchange) - Reply from Shiuk offering to refund my purchase.
September 17, 2012 (Email exchange) - Request for update on refund. No reply.

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/.....ber_1_2012.png
EXPLAIN: The whole story is basically outlined in the timeline of events as shown above. At RainFurrest 2011, I purchased a commission from him, but it was towards the end of the convention and I didn't want him to rush mine and the commissions ahead of me done, so I paid extra to have it done digitally and sent to me at a later date. I paid in full up front. Over the course of the next year's time, I've attempted to contact him via FurAffinity notes and emails asking for updates on the status of the commission and getting very few replies. After loosing my job in February of 2012, I made the decision to request a refund. In August, he finally emailed me back, offering a refund. Since then, I've made attempts to contact Shiuk though email, FurAffinity notes, and both InkBunny notes and Facebook (at the suggestions of a few friends) on a possible ETA for the refund, with no success.
UPDATE 1: I've been attempting to contact Shiuk once a week (or so, give or take a day) ever since September 17 and have continued to receive no word back from Shiuk. Looking at my Notes Outbox, all of my FA notes to Shiuk show as not being read, and with this persistent silence, I can only assume he's ignoring my emails to him and my notes on Inkbunny.
UPDATE 2: At the request of a friend of mine, I'm no longer sending him notes and emails once a week, but have switched to messaging him every time I see him uploading something somewhere (typically on Inkbunny), or once a month, whichever comes first. I've still received no words back from him, but he at least knows I'm trying to contact him because he deletes my shouts on his FurAffinity page whenever I ask about my refund or link to this journal entry.
UPDATE 3: I sent Shiuk an email, saying that I would take my case to the FurAffinity admins and to Paypal if he didn't deliver my refund within a week's time; not exactly the smartest thing to do, on top of being continusouly stressed by this, which is not the best mindset for making decissions. I received an email back from Shiuk (see November_1_2012.png) saying that misunderstood the initial message (and I will admit I'm wrong if I did) and that he'd have the refund for me when he is "capable of doing so"; since that doesn't give me any time frame of reference, I asked for clarification.

Ugh... I'm really hating job hunting.
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been out of work since mid February as, after I was laid off from my original job at MHCC, I got laid off from my most recent one because they didn't have enough money to keep paying me.
Job hunting has been terrible, but this latest bit of news just makes me want to punch someone (and the guy who interviewed me probably wants to do that as well).
There was a position open with an organization called Corrigo that's basically setting up networking infrastructure for businesses. Things like computer networks, phone networks, user accounts and management, stuff like that. Not terribly hard, but they wanted to unload some of the more menial, easier, but plentiful tasks onto a new hire instead of having it fall to the management, who already have enough on their plate. My interview was several weeks ago, and I just heard back from them.
According to what I was told, the position is still open, but they only want to hire people for their Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX offices. Apparently, the guy who did my interview (a very nice man) was pissed when he heard this, for wasting people's time and such. I'm pissed because a really nice job (admittedly one out in Tualatin, OR) just got yanked away with no chance of recovery.

General | Posted 13 years agoBay-Area Fur needs help.
General | Posted 13 years ago
dracojeff posted this the other day, but I wanted to repost it here to try and get more people to see, and hopefully to help find someone who can help him. This is probably the most difficult thing i've faced in a long time.
vir-no-vigoratus and I are being kicked out before October. We are told it has nothing to do with us, but apparently the homeowner here has plans for the place that doesnt include us. We've asked for more time, but he seems adamant. Ouch. We need to find a cheap (but safe) place to live within the Bay area so that I can finish my courses and graduate this coming December. This was kind of sprung on us, and frankly, we dont have much of a plan yet. If there's anyone on FA. ANYONE who can help us search for a place, or knows anything about finding suitable homes/apartments in the bay area, I would really appreciate the help. In addition, if there's anyone interested in living somewhere in the San Jose/San Fransisco area, we could really use the roommate(s) to split on a place. Better yet, if there's anyone in the bay area with room for 2 more roommates, that too would be very helpful... I'm actively seeking employment, so this dire situation shouldnt last too long. Just until January at the latest.
We are both looking for jobs.
I am very worried. and I hate to post another journal like this. But it's worth the slight chance that someone can help in this emergency situation.
There's not a whole lot of things I hate, but one of the big ones is not being able to help out the people I consider my friends when they need it. I could sit here and say "If only" all day long, but I know that won't help, so I'm hoping someone is able to do what I can't and help them.
Most likely an impossible task. x.x
General | Posted 13 years agoI was recently talking to one of the people in my tabletop RPG group and we were lamenting how difficult it was for us to find accurate pictures of the characters we make for our many campaigns, and in an offhanded remark, he said I should try and find an artist that we could commission to do the art for our characters.
We'd only really be looking for bust shots (head and a bit of the torso and that's about it) and have it preferably colored, so hopefully it wouldn't cost that much, but almost assuredly there'd be a lot of work from us (we tend to make a lot of characters for our different campaigns). Anyone know of an artist that might be able to do this?

Late "End of June" Update on Me
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm not doing so well, though I'm better than I had been.
Roundabout June 15th or so, my cat Raka when missing. At first I wasn't thinking much of it, since she would frequently roam around the neighborhood (though she was mostly an indoor cat) so when the one or two days that she went missing started to turn into eight and nine days, I started to really get worried.
Raka was my baby. Ever since I came home from a trip to Japan in 2009, that cat has almost always been with me. I raised her from a kitten, gave her as much love and attention as I could (though some parts of me try and convince me she ran away because I didn't care for her enough), and as much as I joke about it with my family, it meant so much to me that's she'd bitch and yell at me if I ever left the house for more than a day or so. I loved her and she loved me, and right out from under me, she vanished.
I'd gone to as many people as I could around the neighborhood, asking if anyone had seen her and no one had, and even gave out my contact information in case someone did find her. Two weeks became three weeks and it was getting harder to not just break down in tears over her disappearance. Worse yet, I'd heard from some other neighbors in the surrounding houses that the hill we live in is frequented by coyotes this time of year.
I couldn't hold it back anymore and I broke down crying in my living room, right as my family was trying to pack for a vacation we were going to be leaving on that day.
I'm still in pain over it, the other night crying myself to sleep, and while the wound is still fresh, it's slowly healing.
I've picked up a new kitten, this one a boy by the name of Guztav. He has a doctor's appointment to get chipped and a checkup tomorrow, but he's been helping me heal.
While, realistically, I shouldn't hold out much hope, I will still hold onto the prayer that Raka comes home one day, but until then, please just keep me in your prayers so that I can finish my grieving and be able to get back to life with Gustav.

Finally getting my Associate's Degree
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter a whole lost year of schooling due to bad business practices and some bad decisions, I finally have everything in order to graduate and get my Associate Degree from my local community college.
It's not as big as people getting their Bachelor's Degree, but this is an utterly major accomplishment for me, after facing so many stumbling blocks and hardships to get this done.
As soon as I can get another job and get more money under my belt, I'm going to be going for my Bachelor's Degree proper, but until then I really want to thank all the people here on FurAffinity who were my friends and people who I could talk to when I needed someone there the most.

Wreck-It Ralph? Really, Disney?
General | Posted 13 years agoRalph gets fed up with being a villain, leaves his game through the power cord, and goes on a wacky, misadventure-filled romp through rip-offs of other, more popular, video games while no doubt peppering the already lame Disney humor with video game jokes. He finds out from a character named Vanellope von Schweetz, in a world that's basically Candy Land mixed with Mario Cart, that her video game world is under peril by something that Ralph may be responsible for.
Which you already know is that an actually evil villain start thinking "Gee, if this 8-Nit piece of shit can escape into other games, I'll do it too!" and then you have Harbinger from Mass Effect or Satan from Dante's Inferno attempting to hijack the Internet... which I'd honestly pay to go see, but this is Disney, so you already know what kind of villain you're actually going to get.
So Ralph decides he's going to save the video game world, and does so (the villain will probably die by falling off of something, because Disney sure loves their cut-and-paste plot formulas), all while learning to accept his place as a villain in his own game and decides to go home because it's "where he belongs" or some sappy shit like that, and nothing changes through any of this, because the world would end if Disney ever decides to do something actually unique. It's not like Pirates of the Caribbean was balls-out insanely popular in spite of being a Disney movie or anything.
So there. I just saved you about $7 that you would have spent on a movie ticket, or $12 if you're stupid enough to go see it in 3D.

Pathfinder Online
General | Posted 13 years agohttp://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....echnology-demo
"Pathfinder Online is a hybrid sandbox/theme park-style MMO where characters explore, develop, find adventure and dominate a wilderness frontier in a land of sword and sorcery. The Pathfinder world is high fantasy in the tradition of epics like The Lord of the Rings, Conan, The Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones.
The Pathfinder setting includes many different classic and modern fantasy elements, from lost cities shrouded in misty jungles to decaying pyramids amidst deserts of burning sands to a fantastic island metropolis where folk from across the world live side by side with all manner of fantastic creatures. The Pathfinder world has a place for any story a player wants to tell. (For more information on the world of Pathfinder and the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, please visit http://paizo.com/pathfinder.)
Pathfinder Online’s robust trading system puts players in control of the world’s economy with player-created items, consumables, fortifications, and settlements. Character-controlled settlements can grow into full-fledged kingdoms that compete for resources as they seek to become the dominant force in the land, raising vast armies to hold their territory against the depredations of monstrous creatures, NPC factions, and other player characters.
Social organizations scale from small parties of a few adventurers to player nations inhabited by thousands. As settlements develop, the surrounding wilderness develops more complex and challenging features, including randomly generated encounters and resources as well as exciting scripted adventures."
Well... shit...
Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV, Star Wars: The Old Republic, World of Warcraft, Phantasy Star Online 2, The Elder Scrolls: Online, and now my favorite tabletop RPG setting is becoming an MMORPG?!
The hell, Universe?! Can't you just give me ONE MMORPG to play instead of temping me with so many awesome ones?!

This was an all-around unbelievable movie. Every hero felt like a hero and everyone got a chance to shine, displaying their own unique powers and talents in some really amazing battle scenes.
Tony Stark remains my favorite of the group (Powered Armor <3), but you seriously can't walk out of the theater not admiring every member of the team.
Go see this movie in theaters. Go buy this movie when it comes out on DVD. Support the awesome movies so they keep being made.

Should I get Skyrim?
General | Posted 13 years agoAs the title probably obviously implies, I'm looking to get a new video game, preferably for my Playstation 3, since I have the least games for that system out of my whole collection of games... which admittedly isn't very big in the first place. As it stands, I've pretty much brought my decision down to two games: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Now, I pretty much know as an absolute fact that anyone who sees this will immediately jump down to the comments section and tell me how much better Skyrim is than Final Fantasy XIII-2, completely disregarding my own stance on the two games and my dilemma in general. I really hope people actually read this to give me some better-informed advice on the subject.
Now here's the part that I'm hoping people actually read:
I'm not a fan of The Elder Scrolls. I've never played any of the prior games, I've not been very impressed by the graphics (then again I've never much liked the "dirty medieval Europe fantasy" look anyway), and the story doesn't sound all that interesting (and while this is a minor nit-pick about the game, the Skyrim memes are getting really stupid; no one cares about "arrow to the knee" anymore, which is phenomenal, as it rose and fell as a meme before the game even hit a year old). However, the game has received almost universal praise from its players and every major video game reviewer to get their hands on it, and I've taken cautious leaps into new video game series before (like Mass Effect, which I only got into by buying Mass Effect 2 on a whim while on vacation).
On the other hand, I loved Final Fantasy XIII (which is a phrase seemingly about as rare on the Internet as someone who actually knows what a Pineal Gland does). I understood the story and liked all of the characters, the game play was fun, and the graphics are easily the best the franchise has yet to offer. I know Final Fantasy XIII had it's problems, but I never paid them much attention when I played it. However, I'm still curious about Skyrim, and if I get one game, I'm probably gonna hold off on getting any others for a while, at least until I can get a job again.
It's not really a matter of which, but a matter of when. I'll definitely get Final Fantasy XIII-2, but should I take the opportunity and get it now, or should I wait and bit and explore Skyrim first, and then pick up XIII-2 when I've got more money?

Lands of Luste game... maybe. Should I?
General | Posted 14 years agoI bought the Lands of Luste game way back at RainFurrest from
.
For those that don't know, the game is basically an erotic furry version of Dungeon and Dragons that removes a lot of the complex number crunching and gives you all you need with the ever-popular six sided dice. Players can create any type of character they want to pleasure their opponents in a number of ways for the kinkiest dungeon crawl this side of FATAL.
Recently, I've been on a Pathfinder stint, playing a number of games with some friends of mine and even DMing one of my own, but my head keeps turning back to the place on my shelf where the disk with Lands of Luste's rules sits (when it's not busy with the multiplayer demo for Mass Effect 3).
With some time on my hands now, after loosing my job a few weeks back, I started thinking about maybe running one or two sessions using the Lands of Luste rules, just to have some fun and see what kind of silly shenanigans could come from a group of furries playing a porn RPG.
However, before I make any final decisions, I am kinda curious as to who might be interested in joining the game. You'd need your own copy of the rules (hopefully bought legitimately) in order to help build your characters and such, but things like LogMeIn Hamachi and MapTools are readily available and free to download and use for people who enjoy playing tabletop RPGs on the computer (Skype would also probably be required, since it's much faster than sending IMs back and fourth).
Anyway, if this is something you might be interested in, leave a message or send me a note.

Update on Me
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm feeling better, emotionally... about as better as someone who both lost their family pet a day after loosing their job can be.
About 3 months ago I made a journal about how my job in the IT department turned out to not be a permanent position (contrary to what I'd been lead to believe) and would be coming to an end at the end of Fall term. Well, thankfully, that didn't happen. The department head managed to get some extra money to keep paying for my position "for about 30 days", as he said it, but the actual position lasted until the 16th of February. What makes matters slightly worse is the fact that I offered my services to them as a volunteer, but they can't even let me do that (which kinda makes sense, since it'd be no doubt a violation of some rule if you let some random volunteer have access to your phone systems). So right now, aside from school and the Pathfinder RPG sessions I'm in, one I'm even DMing even, I'm unable to do anything, and a gap is not a good thing to have on a resume.
For the moment, though, my best bet is to hopefully find some work at the job fair that's going to happen at my college in a few days. Failing that, I did find out about a job position in Tacoma, Washington for a hospital; they're looking for some Health IT people and they're willing to relocate you if you get the position.
I'm actually really hoping I can get that job and get the chance to move. Tacoma really isn't anything special to me, but it'd finally give me a chance to not have to live with my parents.

Not doing so well right now...
General | Posted 14 years agoMy family's oldest black Labrador, Oakley, is gonna be put down soon.
He's about 14 years old right now, probably older we're not really sure, and he's missing the hip join in his left leg.
His health had started to decline late last year, and we were almost prepared to lose him around Christmas time, but with the intervention of some tranquilizers and some pain medicine, we've help him happy and as comfortable as we could.
He's not eating and the pain meds don't seem to be working anymore, and it was just decided tonight that we didn't want him in pain anymore.
I'm trying my best not to cry right now. We all love him and he's been our family pet ever since moving up here to Oregon.
I need hugs.
