Character Designing and Underused Species
Posted 13 years agoHello everyone, not sure how many of you actually read these but.. hey I've had some things on my mind and was wondering if I could get some potential feedback.
First off, I've been thinking about redesigning my dragon fursona Renlu. He's looked almost exactly the same since I was 18, I'm 23 now and I'd like to make him look older, more grown up and defined as a dragon as well as add new patterns to his red hide. And yet I cant quite wrap my mind around a new concept design for him, adding horns, patterns, body features, changing his body type, all of that is quite difficult to try to picture in my head. I cant draw very well, so I cant sit down with my sketchbook and really try out various things on paper because I dont know how to draw them, and Ive always been a really indecisive person as well as letting others influence me some.
So my question to you all is this, whenever you've wanted to redesign your fursona or create a new OC; how do you plan that? How do you try things out, and settle on a new look that you're happy with? Do you copy other peoples looks a little bit? Or design something from scratch?
--
And the second quick topic is, do you ever feel there are species in the fur community that no one seems to be and take a fursona of? As an example I very rarely seen avians and dinosaurs but many canines and farm animals, why do you think that is? Or is it just perhaps no one finds themselves relating to these various species, or just make alternate characters to fill in those gaps.
Thank you for reading :)

My First Journal!
Posted 13 years agoHello all ^^ To anyone who is watching me or even cares to read this. How ya'll doin? As you all know I'm a dragon living in New Hampshire in the US. I wanted to go ahead and post because I had something I wanted to talk about.
I'm planning on going to two anime conventions this year, Connecticon in Connecticut and San Japan in Texas. Now these are my first anime cons Ive ever gone too and I will have friends there to be with. But my current problem is I'm nervous about going, and I'm nervous about mentioning to my folks.
As a separate topic, my parents while theyre wonderful folks and have taken good care of me; arent entirely fond of the idea I'm a fur and want to be something other then human. Playing a dragon on Secondlife, being a Tauren in World of Warcraft, Mithra in Final Fantasy 11, all of which my folks were not entirely fond of. They even know about my transgender wants and other things. So I'm really nervous to bring up the fact I want to try to get my hands on or make a Yoshi costume (full suit or partial) to go the conventions this year.
Have any of you ever gone through a time like this? How did you work through the knowledge that your parents knew? And were they accepting? Its my life and I'm free to do with it as I please, but it doesnt help me being uneasy.
On a side note, does anyone have some ideas where I could get my hands on a Yoshi fursuit? Or a particular fursuit maker you're aware of? Or references on a good way to construct one? (Also, sharing this because its made of awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN4FPnqjJLI )
Thank you much for reading.
