MFF!
Posted 12 years agoI'll be at MFF, getting there Thursday afternoon, staying with
GroggyFox and
Edward_Hyena. If you wanna hook up and have a beer or something, ping me and I'll get you my phone number, or you can Twitter DM me. I'll have Picardy the Magpie and my as yet unnamed jaguar that I don't wear very often.

Tattoo artists?
Posted 12 years agoI want a tattoo of a noodle dragon draped across my shoulders. Can anyone recommend an artist with a reasonable queue who might do this justice?
My Further Confusion
Posted 12 years agoFurther Confusion 2013
Posted 12 years agoI will be there, and apart from the usual fursuiting, photo-taking, and drinking, I will be playing in both a live jazz band, and doing Kung Fu in Further Confusion: Unleashed (FCU).
The jazz show is being put on by my band SuperPack, and will be playing at 3pm on Friday on Main Stage. The flyer is at: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9691451/
The FCU show will be on Sunday afternoon, and will once again feature Kannik and myself with video assistance from "Furries in Motion" (http://www.youtube.com/user/FurriesInMotion).
If you're going, I hope to see you all at one or both of the shows! :)

MFF Photos
Posted 13 years agoI put my photos up:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/293146.....th/8206992357/
I had a seriously malfunctioning hot shoe, though, and it really discouraged me from taking photos. It was constantly firing at the hip and constantly NOT firing when I triggered the shutter.
Also discouraging me is the constant pressure I put myself under. You take a few good photos, and people expect you to take more good photos, so I end up in this neverending cycle of overblown expectation. It's crippling, yo.
Happy Thanksgiving all. Drink all the wine!

Califur Photos
Posted 13 years agoFinally got around to processing my Califur photos.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/293146.....th/7353287224/
Not a lot of photos this time around. I wasn't feeling very Photo-y; sometimes I feel like I'm being annoying, flashing all these suits over and over again. I mean, I know they like it, but I keep second guessing myself. :P Stobbit, Rev!

Frolic Photos
Posted 13 years agoI'll post these here, too. Why not.
Photos I took from the recent monthly furry dance club up in San Francisco. At least 1/3 - 1/2 of these were taken in costume, for extra fun. Don't let that disuade you; it's some of my better stuff.

FC photos
Posted 13 years agoI swear, there's too many goddamned social networks to post this shit to.
My photos are up. They're broken into two sets, the A and B grade. The grade is not a reflection of the suit, suiter, or people in-shot, merely a result of shot and circumstance.
My style for this con was leveraging the style I've been using at Frolic, the local club, which is natural light with fill flash. It was only partly successful. The problem is that the Marriott's lighting is a bright, sickly yellow. I'm not sure what their lights are, but they played hell with my white balance in almost every hall shot. About 80% of these shots were hand-adjusted for white balance, and no two shot areas were alike. In order to pre-calibrate for this, I'd have had to take at least a hundred calibrations, which is a little crazy. Nevertheless, for the most part, I'm happy with the results. My settings are generally 24-70mm, f/2.8, 1/20-1/50, Flash reflected or Sto-fen diffused at iTTL ev -2.0/-3.0, ISO 1250 for hall shots. Things get changed up pretty seriously for outdoor and convention center shots.
A note on the prevalence of fursuits: at my local events, I've grown comfortable with taking shots of humans, but at an event like a furry con, humans aren't always paying attention or are too caught up in the moment to remember they don't want their picture taken, and in the run-and-gun style I use, it's hard to get permission for every shot I take, so I err on the side of caution. That said, there ARE some real people in my shots. If you see any photos of you that you'd rather be taken down, by all means, contact me.

Posted 14 years agoMy photos for MFF 2011 are up on Flickr. You can get them here:

I had a continuation of the Crisis of Photography that I'd first experienced at Anthrocon. I didn't know what to take pictures of. I couldn't lift my camera. Everything became trying to predict the perfect light settings. Instead of using what I've learned from Frolic, I decided to start over from scratch. Why? I dun now, I'm retarded. Not only that, but I'm falling into the trap of overanalyzing, and instead of enjoying the photos I'm taking, I'm making it into hard labor that I'm not enjoying. I guess I just need to find that head-space where I can take pictures and enjoy it. I only ended up with about 100 pictures, out of a total of 250. I threw in a bunch of stuff I would have normally discarded, just because. All of these are minority post processed. Most aren't color corrected, but have lighting levels adjusted. I've also gotten into the habit of sharpening and color-enhancing fursuit eyes. I hope it's not too noticeable. I've also found a better technique for masking facial eye-bags. It makes folks look much less artificial than the clone stamp method I'd been using, and still knocking off a few years. Yeah, I'm still skin smoothing too. People don't want to see their hair follicles sticking out of individual pores. At least, I don't think they do.
The con itself was a whole helluva a lot of fun. I met a couple of new folks, caught up with some old friends, and generally had a better time at a con than I have in a while. I attribute this in part to Kiteless and his odd ability to have a meaningful conversation with ANYONE. Godric was out for several hours, and both Plague Picardy and Partial Picardy made it out. I did dancing in Partial Picardy, and man, it was nice to not be suffocating in a body suit while fursuit dancing, Yeah, I know, it's cheating, but whatever. :P I'm trying to juggle my vacation around next year to see if I can work MFF in around China and Burning Man. We'll see what I can make happen.
Enjoy the photos! Repost as you please, with attribution. Editting is fine for non commercial as long as I'm attributed at the original photographer. License is Creative Commons (CC) BY-NC-SA.

Grr
Posted 14 years agoIt's really lame that in order to get EXIF to show up for a photo you need to submit the image, then resubmit the file after the image is posted. What's worse, you can break the size limits, so it can end up being FRIGGIN HUGE, which is annoying. :P

FC 2011 photos
Posted 14 years agoI forgot to post this up here:
Hey folks,
I've just put my FC photos up. You can find it on Flickr in my Further Confusion 2011 Collection:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/293146.....7625783414159/
There are 4 sub albums:
Further Confusion A-Grade
These are the best of the images. Either good focus or selective focus, deliberate blur, or a shot I really shout deserved keeping. This is not a reflection of the quality of the individual or suit in the image, but of the composition and result of my shot. I did full post processing on these, and posted them at full resolution.
Further Confusion 2011 FCU
FCU Images. Mostly no post-processing, posted at medium resolution. I deleted all the shots that were really bad or plain repetitious, but left the rest.
Further Confusion 2011 Masquerade
Masquerade Images. Mostly no post-processing, posted at medium resolution. I deleted all the shots that were really bad or plain repetitious, but left the rest.
Further Confusion 2011 B-Grade
These are the leftover shots, images which were too blurry, unfocused, had bad composition, blown out light, bad shadows, uneven lighting, or that I just didn't like the composition of. The B-Grade is not a reflection of the quality of the individual or suit in the image, but of the composition and result of my shot. These have little to no post processing and are posted at low resolution.

All of my images are posted under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. Use them, edit them, don't sell them, always credit me, and keep the license the same.
If you don't like an image I've posted, please let me know, and I'll take it down. Likewise, if you see an image you'd like me to try and spruce up, let me know which one and I'll do my best.
If you don't see a shot of yourself, I apologize, but I needed time to fursuit and dance, too. ;)
FC was AWESOME! :D

AC 2010 Photosplosion
Posted 15 years ago(cross-posted from the Anthrocon LJ Community)
I just finished dumping my 1025 photos up on Flickr.
I took nearly all of them with a D5000, 50mm f1.4, and diffused SB600. All photos are available in Raw(NEF) if you happen to want one of them.
My goal was to catch the face of the creature, and the emotions transmitted by the set of the shoulders and neck, the angle the upper arms, the tilt of the head, etc. I tried as often as possible (difficult to do, since many suits are only in character when there's a camera pointed at them) to get shots of the character "in action", rather than the character "in posing". It didn't always work, but I think I got a few good ones.
I also did a lot of shots of the dances, mostly taken with a slow curtain sync, because I wanted it to look like folks were in motion with a background. One thing about the dance is that there's a lot of non-suits in the pictures. If you looked like you were feeling the music and having a good time, chances are that I tried to get a picture of you, fursuit or not.
There are many human faces in these pictures! If you don't want your human's picture up, please send me an email at reveille at gmail with a link to the photo and I'll edit it out or remove the photo entirely.
I did hallway shot exposure correction leaning toward darker, with a good amount of color corrections and cropping. Dance shots are nearly all completely untouched (some exceptions).
There are 9 total sub-albums, collected together in a single collection:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/293146.....7624269691851/
The photos have been tagged with 'Anthrocon' and added to the 'Anthrocon' Flickr group.
Enjoy.

FC, successes, and personal tragedy.
Posted 15 years agoI just got back from FC. Picardy was finally finished and competed in the Masquerade, taking 1st in Journeyman. I was borderline not attending FC at the last minute due to the following:
Prior to FC, I had a personal tragedy. My German Shepherd, Falco "Harley" von Kleiner Fuerball passed on the Monday prior to the con, due to complications related to spleen cancer. Harley was with me through building my first 3.5 suits, and my win in the FC masquerade is dedicated to him.
I love you, pup, and I'll always miss you.
I'll be posting some images taken during the building of Picardy shortly.

Lazy dragon
Posted 15 years agoI've been lazy, and haven't posted anything. No pictures of Zi, no pictures of Godric, no designs for new characters.
Meh! However, I have been working on a new suit. I've posted a teaser, and I'll put more images up when I'm done with him.
Okay, back to work.

Posted 18 years agoSlate ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/slate/ ) tagged me a while back. I'm just a talentless lurker, with nothing to contribute, but whatever. :P I'll do it anyway.
The 1st player of this starts with the topic weird habits/facts/dislikes about yourself; and people who get tagged must write in their journals about their 6 weird habits/facts/dislikes as well as state this rule clearly.
"In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list to their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you're tagged" (I'm not tagging anyone, because I don't really know anyone but Slate and Skant, and they're already tagged :P)
1. I count in multiples of 6, from everything to cracks in the sidewalks, steps, telephone poles, repetetive sounds, etc.
2. My favourite breakfast is fried noodles scrambled with eggs.
3. I obsessively crack my big toes.
4. I fear the death of those around me more than I fear my own death, because the thought of being left alone terrifies me.
5. If I could live on a ship in the ocean, travelling the seas by star and sail for the rest of my days, I would do it in a heartbeat.
6. I long for the ability to create something meaningful.
