It's Been a Minute
Posted 2 years agoYeah, I'm bad at keeping up with these, but wanted to offer an update.
Firstly, thank you for everyone who leaves comments on my page or art. It really means a lot and regardless if I reply or not I SEE YOU and APPRECIATE you dearly. I'll try to be more interactive in the future.
Next, the artwork will continue to come in. I'm working a bit slower these days, but it's for the purpose of turning out far better pieces. Quality over quantity and what not.
I've begun revisiting my fics/stories I've written in the past. Casting, Go to Two, will be getting new chapters FINALLY. I've found a new format to post them here on FA and will be utilizing that along with new content going forth. This will also mean I will update previous chapters of the story to be in the new format, rather than a download. My other story, A Saving Grace, will also get new chapters, though bear with me on that one. I am in the process of reworking it into a comic. This is a very personal project to me, so it will take as long as it needs. In the meantime, I may focus more on one off stories where you can get to know Grace a lot better, more quickly than before.
I have a few other projects up my sleeve that will roll out over the coming months. Some big pieces, some spicy and NSFW! Keep an eye out it'll be fun.
Lastly, I do have open commissions now. I am in the process of updating them here on FA, but if you are currently interested either DM me here or refer to my twitter @ theartofmatthew.
For those of you who still stick around after all this time, I thank you for being there. Anyone who might be new, I hope you enjoy my content!

Updates After a Year and What Not...
Posted 4 years agoI saw I hadn't updated my journal in over a year so here's a quick one. I've updated my fic "Casting, Go to Two" and I'm working on subsequent chapters right now. I've also finally named the AU that this story (and all my stories) will take place in. I'm calling it "Hollywood Mobians." For now it's composed of only CGT2, but I have another story that I'll be sharing soon that eventually crosses over with CGT2. I'll post that here soon, but if you want a peak at it you can go to my Toyhouse link below and read early. The only detail I'll share now is that my character Grace McCray is the main character of the story. I've already got 4 chapters in the can but I'll be dropping them bi-weekly for now as I continue to write more.
I'll be posting my new commission prices soon too. They've gone up, but I think it's fair to the client as well as my time and effort.
I'm streaming a bit more these days. You can find me at picarto.tv/artofmatthew. Feel free to follow me. My schedule for the moment is pretty much when I have time, but here's hoping for something more concrete in the future.

I Started a Fanfic About My Version of Sally
Posted 5 years agoFor about a month now, I've been kicking around the idea of writing a fanfic where I go completely off the reservation and give a story to my version of Sally. This will serve as a sort of loose canon for which my version of her exists.
The basic idea is that this is an alternate universe in which Sally is an actress who got her start on The Adventures of Sonic TV series. (This will essentially be an amalgamation of what I personally liked and pull from in the Archie comics and the SatAM show.) The whole thing is purely for my own self indulgence and fun, so don't expect an "in canon" Sonic read.
That said, I'm a writer and I put a good bit of effort into this story. It pulls from many elements in my life and the main character is very reflective of my self. (Cause he's my sona.)
So if you're into it, give it a read! I'll be doing more artwork in the future relating to the story as it comes together. There's a link to the first chapter below!

Unplugging for a bit
Posted 5 years agoI've decided I need to unplug from a number of things for a bit and this site is one of them. Outside of dealing with some toxicity, I'm stretched a little too thin in other aspects of my life right now. I still owe a number of trades, I'm behind on commissions, and my day job has been increasing in demand while also draining me.
I'm not deleting this page. I just don't have the energy to make posts on multiple sites right now.
If I owe you any artwork, I'll contact you and figure that out.

In over my head...

So my $20 commission deal was a bust. I got two but hardly what I hoped for. It's probably not the worst thing in the world because I took a freelance editing job that itself has become a bit of an ordeal. Nothing impossible, just some added difficulties and bad timing with other aspects. It's taken up a lot more of my time than expected (go figure) so art has slowed down since.
I wish I had more to post. Sadly I don't have much time to work on things other than sketches for myself. I also owe a trade to an friend on here whose been incredibly patient. (Thanks dude. You know who you are.)
Idk, I just feel off. On one hand I'm free from that toxic day job, but I still feel sort of trapped and stagnant.
In all honesty what about the $20 commission deal turned you guys off? I'm trying to learn for next time. I posted it on Instagram, facebook, DA and here and only got two bites. Does my stuff suck? I feel like the price is fair given the amount of time I put into these. Just trying to learn. What is the typical commission price range you do and what do you get for it?
Am I over thinking all of this?

It's Been Quite a While
Posted 8 years agoYeah, so I haven't updated here in like 3 months. (Hence the bulk posts I just did.) This wasn't intentional, but life happened and I was just cranking out art without focusing on posting. Thankfully, things should be settling down soon so I can begin to post more frequently here.
I do have some non Sally stuff coming. I'm working on a very sweet Carmelita Fox piece for my friend
reddeadfox and we're both pretty pleased with it so far! Also have some anthros I designed that I'll be posting too, so keep an eye out!

Breathe
Posted 8 years agoI need to be honest about some stuff. Lately, I've had a lot going on and I've been stewing in it. Most notably, my Aunt died recently. I'm ok and everything is fine. She was very sick with a very vicious form of cancer for at least two years now. Either way she's no longer in pain and the healing can begin. Something about the sermon the minister gave stuck with me. I'm not religious or even spiritual, but the message of the sermon was to not to let your own frustrations and grudges keep us from seeing the good in life. It was strange that he chose that message given my Aunt was the most warm and embracing person in my Stepfather's family, but I don't think that part was for her. It was for all of us in the chapel who were grieving. It asked us to put aside pettiness and not miss the fleeting beauty that is life.
Now how does that relate to my art? Well, I've held a lot of negativity within myself for a while now. Gradually, I've learned to let some of it go and move on. However, I do find myself looming over little things, tiny things that I have no control over that piss me off. As a result of my lingering, I've gotten lazy. My artwork has taken a hit from this as well as my general motivation. This weekend, I've been home with my parents to spend time with them and my friends. My hope is that I can purge most of that negativity with fun, love, and positive energy. That's not to say I'm not going to be pissy from time to time and want to bitch about the parts of life that anger me. I'm merely relinquishing the control and weight that junk has held me under for all this time. It won't be an instant thing, but I do think everything will change for the better in due time.
