An update to the last journal... As I mentioned, the phone interview for the tech company went very well. They continued me on to more paperwork processing, and gave a conditional job offer. My background check is still running, it's been over a week.

The Aldi "hiring event" was a complete waste of time, it was just 3 managers in a room with 75+ applicants (when I was there) taking applications and resumes. No discussions, no hiring on the spot, nothing. I could have had that application in a week and a half earlier but was told to wait for this event.

I also had an interview with a security company for a position that's only 3 miles from where we live. They are offering decent pay, and extended a conditional job offer as well. This position is 42 hours a week, so it's got guaranteed overtime every week. The negative is that it is 6 hour shifts 7 days a week. Shifts are short, and it's a quiet position, but it's every day. My background check completed for them on Friday, and they have me scheduled to start orientation tomorrow morning.

Money is running pretty tight right now being out of work for nearly 2 months, so I can't keep waiting for the tech job even though it has the possibility of paying more, and the fact that it has better hours. If they call back on Monday or Tuesday saying I can start next week, then I'll take it. If I finish orientation with the security company, I'll most likely stick with them.

My job hunt is still going strong, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Today I had a phone interview with a tech support callcenter that I'm crossing my fingers for, the interview went very well.

I have a hiring event I'm going to on Saturday for a local grocery store (https://www.aldi.us/) that is hiring for 4 nearby locations. I also have an interview set up for a security company on Tuesday morning, which has multiple postiions including one that is in the same town as I am.

My unemployment hearing is tomorrow, I am crossing fingers for that. If the appeal goes in my favor, I will be receiving a check for backpay to cover 6 weeks, plus will be receiving a check every week until I get a new job. I think I have a pretty good defense for my case, which is partially going on the offense against my manager as well as the general practices of the hotel.

I've put in close to 40 job applications so far over the last month, with no luck yet. I've only had 3 callbacks for interviews and none of them panned out. They all ended up being part time, and none have called for a second interview yet.

I have my hearing for my unemployment appeal next Friday, I'm calling my former supervisor as a witness as well as a coworker who contacted me to tell me that he'd heard people talking about my termination. I'm currently trying to file a complaint with the US Department of Labor for wrongful termination... once I am able to get in contact with someone from the regional office instead of just a general voicemail box.

So I got to work yesterday, my manager was waiting for me at the HR office as soon as I clocked in. I got fired for something that would be rewarded for being proactive anywhere else. This was horrible timing, with FWA right around the corner.

They are being "nice" enough to let me keep the discounted hotel rooms for the con. We are still going, but our tight budget just got even tighter.

To add to yesterday's fun, on the way home from getting fired, our brand new car with 5000 miles broke down and would not start. Luckily it was right near home and a dealership is a few miles away. They still have not figured out what is wrong with it, we got a loaner car tonight to use until ours is fixed.
