Alive and coping.

So, my brain is obviously not doing great. Not going to get into it here, but it's at the point where I'm getting some professional (and potentially pharamceutical) help.
Unfortunately, The first thing to go when I'm in a downswing is personal projects, and the second thing to go is social contact. So while I sort myself out, this is going to remain pretty quiet.
Sorry if I worried anyone, hopefully I'll be on the mend this year.

Go play Night In The Woods!
Posted 8 years agoSuch a great interactive story. I hesitate to call it a "game" since it's 90% platform exploration and dialog with a handful of low-stakes mini-games.
That said, the writing is great, the characters are highly relatable little shits, and the art and music are stunning. If you want a chill platforming experience with some emotional weight, this is the game for you. Highly recommended.

My brain's trolling me
Posted 8 years agoSo, last night I try to get some sleep. Climb into bed by 12:30, and the last I see of my alarm was 1:59 am.
Then the dreams start. I can't remember all of them. There were aliens and plane trips and batman dying in superman's arms... The usual.
At some point, I'm hanging out with a group of people, and digging through a box of graphic novels. There's a woman next to me. Frizzy blonde hair, glasses, perhaps a little androgynous in the face, but very feminine otherwise. I strike up a conversation about some of the graphic novels and collections in the box, mostly furry comics from the 90's. It turns out she's very much into them, and points out some I haven't had a chance to read through yet. We hit it off instantly, and strike up a conversation about comics in a private room. I realize i haven't introduced myself, and when I do, she smiles. I don't quite catch her name. She leans in,and in a sudden act of reckless courage, I put my hand on her knee. She leans in for the kis...
...and I wake up. It's 6:00 am, and I have to get up in 2 hours.
Just once in my life, I'd like an actual erotic dream. All of the ones I have are either waking up before anything happens, trying to hide hardcore furry porn from my relatives or co-workers, or me resisting the temptation to partake in something completely immoral.
I need to try lucid dreaming techniques...

Goodbye 2016.
Posted 8 years agoThanks for Zootopia and Rogue One but otherwise, you can get fucked.
So what happened to me? Long story short: Depression. That lovely “high functioning” kind that allows you just enough energy to barely keep your life together, but turns every little setback into another sign that you’re a worthless waste of spunk. A lot of beating myself up for pretty trivial bullshit, and a lot of guilt-driven procrastination. It’s not a mindset that fosters productivity.
I… tend to not talk a lot about myself. Partly because my issues tend to be a bit odd (Explaining the death of a loved one via the intricacies of long-distance online bisexual polyamorous relationship is not a conversation I like having). Partly because my life is, overall, pretty darn good. Which, of course makes me feel bad about feeling bad, and the whole flushing cycle begins again. Add a dash of OH GOD SOMEONE FUCK ME, a lot of self-esteem and social anxiety issues (shh, don’t look desperate!) and voila: one hot mess.
So, I’m finally getting therapy. The first few sessions have been highly productive in breaking up the log jam of negative emotions that have been dominating my life lately. I’m not back to “Q1 2014” levels yet, but thanks to a couple little strategies, my kitchen and bathroom are clean, I can see the floor of my bedroom, and I’m making headway on the rats-nests of unopened bills and paperwork stuffed in the nooks and crannies of my apartment.
I’m not back in the groove creatively just yet, and thanks to insurance issues, I have to start over again with a new therapist.
Still, I’m starting to doodle again, so that’s a good sign.

Posted 9 years agoMy heat's fixed, my job is safe, but my brain just says "nope" the second I'm off the clock. I haven't had a lot of inclination to draw lately, and the thought of logging in to anything "social" stressed me the hell out.
So, time to try some professional therapy, and see if this is either anxiety-induced semi-functional depression, or just being lazy. Either way, perhaps I might get some advice for getting my life back on track.

Drama at work
Posted 10 years agoThe good news is that I still have a job, miraculously.
There's been some drama at my day job. Long story short, investors ousted the company's founder, then tried to sell us to someone just as flakey as the guy they ditched. Management basically dropped a dirty laundry bomb on us and bailed, leaving literally the newest guy in the office holding the bag.
Astonishingly, it worked. Potential new owner managed to piss everyone off, so New Guy played his hand perfectly, and now is running the place with staff support. Thing actually look promising right now.
Busy, but promising.

It lives!
Posted 10 years agoHi all! First I’d like to say hello to all the new watchers and a big thank you to everyone who did favourites. I’m sorry I dropped off the face of the world.
So what happened? Short story is this: Family vacation time, CRAZY busy at work, sick cat, dead cat, Christmas. Heating issues turning my office into an icebox. Crazy busy, new cat, new cat is an asshole. Total Burnout. Warframe. Warframe Warframe Warframe.
Warframe.
Vacation.
It was nice seeing some of my friends back home, and it helped break the back of some of my guilt-based procrastination that takes hold anytime I start missing deadlines. Good thing I do fuzzy smut for fun, rather than profit.
Since I have a few half-done bits right now, I’m going to focus on finishing those for an art bomb, then see if I can start on the Wage Slave queue. While I can’t promise the art anytime soon, I’ll be around a little more now.

WINDOOOOWWWSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Posted 11 years agoArgh, dammit!
Tried to log into Windows tonight to get in my weekly Wildstar fix, and the damn thing denies me, hard. Something broke badly enough to mess up the EFI on boot, and none of Microsoft's tools are working.
Best guess is that Windows tried to install a patch on restart last time I rebooted into MacOS, and saved some vital files in firmware. Then MacOS installed some new updates and over-wrote the pending windows patches. Whee! I can at least pull the important files onto the mac partition, so I don't lose like 7 GB of Skyrim mods and all my saved games.
Hope this isn't my whole weekend. I'd like for my birthday to, at the very least, not suck.

Incoming Lull
Posted 11 years agoHey all, I'm not going to be around much this month. Work and family obligations this month will probably mean no time to draw, and I want to drop a bit of an art bomb on y'all next time. Chances are you won't see anything new until the end of the month, but when you do, there's going to be plenty to keep your interest!
And now for something a little different
Posted 11 years agoWage slaves will continue, don't worry, but I wanted to share a little something else that's been brewing in the background.
It's a little game concept which I’m tentatively calling “Breed”.
I got the idea playing a pretty, but ultimately disappointing, game on my phone. It was a monster breeder Farmville clone, but it was poorly balanced and pretty boring after a while. In a moment of frustration, I thought “At least you could let me watch the monsters fuck.” Next thing I knew, I was cranking out a design doc.
So “Breed” is my variation on the genre. It’s a farm-building, monster breeding game with plenty of furry/furry, furry/feral, and feral/feral action. Build your farm, breed your monsters, and play around with your neighbours and charges.
For the moment, I plan on showing off development art, which you'll be able to find with the “Breedgame” tag (or in pools on the sites that support them). Feedback is much appreciated.
Once I have the design doc completed and enough assets pooled, I’ll create some flash demos. These are going to be slideshows guiding people through the introduction, rather than finished games, but they should give everyone an idea of how the game will play out. Those will be shared out as widely as possible, and will be used to gauge interest in creating a finished game.
If there’s enough interest, I’ll start a patron or offbeatr.com campaign so I can hire some help in producing the finished game. I intend the final game to be freely available, and turn based, without the micro-transaction bullshit.

Wage Slaves
Posted 11 years agoHey all. Had an idea for a new series of images, which I'm calling "Wage Slaves".
The idea is folks tied up in the workplace, using items found on the job. Some jobs are easier and more cliche than others, but I have about half a dozen fun ideas for this already.
I'll be including both males and females in the mix, and continuing my colouring experiments. If there's enough interest, I might consider having a few YCH auctions for the series, if anyone feels like spicing up their character's work life.
Let me know what you think!

At FurEh!
Posted 11 years agoHey all, I'm at FurEh! In Edmonton, AB this weekend. Come say hi to my PG animator alter ego, and if you came here via my calling card, Hello!
Porn resumes
Posted 12 years agoHey all. Freelance is over. I'm out of town this weekend, but as of next week, my evenings will be free for fun again.
Whoops, work.
Posted 12 years agoZug zug.
Hey all. No porn for a bit. Got the new home office all set up, just in time for my old boss to come knocking with some freelance work, so I'm expecting 72 hour work weeks for the rest of the month.
It looks like I'll be doing some work on a show staring a cop with an axe.
There will be at least one new piece coming up for Drjackal.

More on the way.
Posted 12 years agoThanks to all the new watchers and the support. I'm glad folks have been enjoying the new art.
More will be coming shortly; we finally got in new Cintiqs at the office, which means I get to bring my old monster back home for good. Due to a mixup in the parts compartment, it'll be a bit longer before my iMac's thunderbolt video adaptor comes back with me as well.
Still, I can now move my office into the actual office, and folks can expect a more steady trickle of new art.
Thanks again for your patience!

Critique?
Posted 12 years agoLooks like my last upload went over like a lead balloon.
Since my coloured works in general seem to do worse than the black and white ones, I say it's time for open season on critiques.
Colored version: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11469938/
Lineart/sketch: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11469938/
So, too messy? Too busy? Color scheme sucks? Let me know!
In the meantime, I'll be switching to toon-shading for the next few. Easier to pull off.

Might be an Omen... yeah right.
Posted 12 years agoWell, so much for omens.
What happened? Short story, Furry porn has been on the bottom of my "To-Do" list.
Drawing at work makes drawing at home less fun, so I'd usually rather play Animal Crossing and Steam sales. What I've got is lots of crappy doodles which I hate, a few partially coloured tests abandoned, and a LOT of 3d "learning experiences" which I cant see anyone particularly caring to see, and enough home-made D&D campaign maps and notes to create half a campaign path (with another half to come).
I've made enough progress in blender that I could finally post something, which led to a message from an old fan with a nice discovery.
I'm going to keep the momentum up for a little while with some older art. There are a couple things coming up which may allow me to post new art
But no promises. I'm tired of breaking them.

Might be an omen...
Posted 14 years agoStill unpacking from the move, but getting settled in. New town, new home. Interesting thing about the place though...
All the squirrels here are pitch black. Every single one I've seen.
Good omen?

Goodbye New Brunswick, Hello Ontario.
Got a new job near Barrie, so it's time for me and the kitties to move along. With luck, Regular communications will resume mid-october.

Job Hunting again
Posted 14 years agoStill employed, but loathing it. Time, I think to get back into animation.
There's a couple of promising opportunities I've applied to, so we'll see how that works out.

Some 3d work in progress
Posted 14 years agoMight be a bit of a break in the traditional art for a bit, and the 3d bug had bitten hard.
For those curious, I'm posting regular progress updates on the blog: http://ricochetx.thumblogger.com/
I'll post the character at completed stages in my scraps section. The base 3d model is up now.
Once it's done, I'll start posting finished work in the main section. Might be a while, but I'm liking what I'm getting so far. Critiques are very welcome.

Blah Blah Blog.
Posted 14 years agoI have a new blog.
I wanted a way to get feedback on some of the things I'm working on, and show off some of the many projects that never really make it to completion, but didn't want to flood IB and FA with Work In Progress sketches.
So if you're interested, feel free to check out The Bin of the Black Squirrel: http://ricochetx.thumblogger.com/

Back to reality? Oops there goes gravity ....
Posted 14 years agoProgramming will be returning to abnormal shortly. Had to travel cross-country to an old friend's wedding, which sucked up much of my time. This week's a wash with extra hours to make up for that lost time (I can't afford partial paychecks right now).
However, I am firing up the ol' wacom again, so there will be more coming starting next week.

A little teaser...
Posted 14 years agoOk, ok. So there's another bit of an art dump planned for this weekend. I'm going to drop a couple teasers into my sketches folder in the meanwhile.
