Flamingo TF drawing tonight

Well,
JackTheLizard came up with an idea for a TF story that really appeals to me, so I'm going to do the same thing I did with my quoll TF a while ago. I'm going to make one complete drawing in one night. In my painterly style, because practice makes perfect. Two people into flamingos, because big avians are awesome.

Stream 1/2 of inking #71 tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoHooray! I got 30 minutes to prepare a journal for my stream tonight.
Yeah, I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I can finish the inks tonight. Some of the thumbnails haven't even been sketched out yet. What I am going to do is finish half the inks. There's a bunch of talking characters on this page, and I've tried to push for the most interesting poses and expressions for each character. I just need to make sure I don't repeat the mistakes I make in the past, of drawing people with over-sized or misshapen hands or heads or eyes or ears or noses.

Coloring #70 tonight, phew
General | Posted 2 years agoI almost wasn't going to have a stream tonight. I had a deadline for a team project tonight that I needed to double down on. But then today, the professor decided to extend the deadline to Friday. So I have time to stream. Not that it puts any less pressure on me, but that's for me to worry about and not you all.
I'll be coloring #70 tonight. I was up several hours last night working until it was all inked. I have a bit more optimism that I'll be able to finish on time tonight. I'll be starting at 6:30 PM Eastern at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . I'm partway through series 2 of Shoebox Zoo, which I'll be watching. If you don't mind jumping in mid-season with spoilers for series 1, that's for you all to worry about, and not me.

Inking stream tonight -- giveaway reminder

By the way, to make it easier on people, I moved the info for the 600-follower giveaway raffle from the footer to yesterday's journal. Now that all the new followers have slowed down a bit, it's quite possible that I won't even hit 600 followers until December. Well, no biggie. I'll reply to every comment on the day I hit 600 followers for when I'll do my stream, then announce the winner mid-stream.

So! I'm going to do a little giveaway like I did back in June, but with 1 winner instead of 3. To keep things fair this time, I won't ask for the most interesting requests. All I ask is for three things. I've left the info in the footer, so that anyone can leave a comment in any journal.

General | Posted 2 years agoHaving a busy workday reminds me sometimes of why I enjoy identity death. So many people who need me to do something, and there's only so much I can do, and so little I can actually do, that I start to daydream about peaceful simplicity.
You know, in my current drawing, I leave it completely ambiguous whether there's any identity death or not. Birds have a completely different body language than humans.
I think I may be playing it too safe with my transformations. I enjoy TFs the most when there's stretching involved, whether it's being involuntarily stretched out and expanded in size, or when they're shrinking in size and trying to hold onto anything. I love TFs that get you to feel along with the characters. And... that's not quite the case here. But I suppose it's one of those cases where you need to imagine your own interpretation of the TF, and follow along the scenario in your head.
So. With all that being said, I'll be streaming tonight at 6:30 PM Eastern at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . I'll be shading the TF picture and finishing it up for tonight, while watching some more episodes of an intriguing kid's show called Showbox Zoo. See you there!

Inking bird TF stream tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoInking is one of the most difficult stages of drawing there is. It combines the difficulties of sketching and shading, of both assigning a 3D object with 2D representation, while also indicating the relative shadows of the assigned area.
I sometimes try to avoid it by using a "painterly" style, but my experiments there only go to show how useful inking is. Without it, shapes get easily blotched and hard to keep separate from the background. One could delicately touch up the borders between foreground and background with rim lighting, but it requires a lot of patience and discipline.
Of course, that's the technique I also use with my pencils and colored pencils. I've always been afraid of physically inking. I can't stand any prolonged activity that requires constant focus and punishes the slightest mistake. Some would say that's the best part, as it teaches you to live with your mistakes and incorporate them into the work.
Oh dear, I'm being wistful again.

Sketch streaming around 7 PM
General | Posted 2 years agoI'm going to break my consistent habit of starting streams at 6:30 PM. I just need a bit of extra time to finish my homework for tonight. I've got it mostly figured out, I just need a bit of time to write it out and submit it, and then I can start streaming.
I'm planning to do a cassowary TF sketch tonight. There's a whole premise that goes along with it, but that's not as important as figuring out how to transition the body from man to bird.

General | Posted 2 years agoI already spent last Friday shading #69, so most of it is already done. Usually, it only takes me at most 4 hours to shade a whole comic page. But knowing me, I might find new things to shade and end up spending all my time on shading.

Malquetze shading tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoHmm, so I'm shading the Malquetze reference today. That should be interesting. They're amphibious, so it'll mostly be making them look wet and shiny. Plus adding some shading to the clothes. Shouldn't take too long.

General | Posted 2 years agoWell, what is the expected rate of journal-posting? I follow 560 people and only get 3 journals every day, which tells me the standard rate is 1 journal every 6 months. Of course, some of those accounts could be inactive, so just looking at a random user in my feed, I see a rate of 1 journal every 1.5 months.
Either way, daily journal posting is an outlier. But I've still not gotten any feedback from people saying to post a "Streaming!" submission instead, to delete afterwards. Or maybe it would be less invasive to delete these journals?

(And yes, there is a guy out there who recently watched me who's not watching anyone else. I hope he's not too irritated by the constant journal notifications, without submissions to match.)
