Gosh, it's been so long, I feel like I'm rusting. Homework does come first, and before that it was endless worrying about resumes and job prep. Of course, that's still going, but it's much quieter and in the background now.

I'm ready to ink some tapir TF tonight. I'm taking this opportunity to experiment with my style: I'm going to try inking on separate overlapping layers so that I can subtly color them during the color stage (trying to avoid the disaster that was AFCAH #40). I'm also going to avoid internal inking as much as possible, and save things like eyes and mouths for the coloring stage.

I get so little time to sit down and think about what drawing means to me. Is it selfish to just keep drawing my own ideas, things that are pleasing to me? Or is it merely foolish?

I never technically closed commissions, but I haven't been announcing I'm open either. I've just been quietly denying it to people who aren't coming to me with ideas that interest me. I'm being selfish like that, I know. But I don't know what drawing means to me.

I miss getting the chance to just focus on appealing drawings that happen to resemble humans becoming animals, and not focus on who my audience is or what meaning I'm trying to convey or what plot beat I want to hit. I don't miss the constant tension of not getting enough feedback and trying to get into other people's heads. Some part of me does enjoy commissions, not just for the money, but for the joy of pleasing people. But does my art please people? Or are they just polite?

It's so much easier just to please myself, with some good old tapir TF sketching.

The two pictures I posted yesterday -- the Zhokan ref, and AFCAH #66 -- have been my sole focus for the last three weeks. At first, I was planning to take a break with them for something more fun.

But then I thought about the dog picture I posted a few days ago, and how I had done that spur-of-the-moment in an hour. And I think that serves as something more fun.

I have an even bigger concern right now. Whether I ike it or not, this semester will be my busiest I've ever had. I'm juggling essential six classes, six responsibilities. And some are going to involve lots of studying and effort outside of class. At some point in the future, I will have to spend my evenings working on those responsibilities. It's a matter of "when", not "if".

There are a little over 4 months to the end of the year. So far, I've managed to produce 2 AFCAH pages every month. My current plan is still to end Phase 1 at the end of the year, and I have 9 pages to go to do that. I also plan to finish the other 4 races in Jack's world by the end of the year, one every month. I still have confidence I can do all these things in the time I have, but I have to start taking steps to ensure I don't fall far behind.

I like to make things easy for all those people who take advantage of FA's system to automatically select streams, so that they can delete them without opening them. It's almost ridiculous how little I care about engaging my audience, and simply going for whatever is convenient. It's almost like I'm not even trying to build a business here. (But maybe that's a good thing, what with this being my senior year and all...)

So yeah... I'm shading the Zhokan ref, and page #66. Just a couple things to touch up for the former, the bulk of my time will be for the latter.

Wish I could multitask while drawing, so I could watch more than feel-good zoo videos while drawing. Ah well.

Back in the dorms. Getting to and from dinner is slightly faster than it used to be, though still slow from the sheer number of people coming and going and moving in, with the help of their friends and luggage carts.
