Sketching seal TF tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoI will be sketching two very lucky men getting some new pinniped appendages tonight at https://picarto.tv/Rimme , at 6:30 PM EST. See you then!
Shading #58 now
General | Posted 2 years agoGoing to finish up #58 right now. https://picarto.tv/Rimme
I look forward to the summer, when I can draw for more than 3 hours every night. I've got a couple side projects now that I'd love to work on some more. Just a few more weeks.

Coloring #58 tonight -- brief note on silliness
General | Posted 2 years agoTonight I add color to what is becoming one of my favorite pages of the comic so far. https://picarto.tv/Rimme
I've been kind of obsessed lately with the question of whether my comic takes itself too seriously or not. It certainly started out silly, but then it had a huge dose of seriousness over the last dozen or so pages. This page is definitely less serious than the ones before; I'm just wondering if it still has seriousness creeping in, or whether it's overshooting the silliness angle. I mean. I'm just having fun with it. Not chaotic fun, and hopefully not arrogant fun. I suppose even fun stuff needs to have effort put into it.
Thank you for listening to my neurotic aside. Coloring right now!

Inking #58 tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoAs often happens...
General | Posted 2 years ago... I forgot to let everyone that I was sketching today. Which would be understandable, seeing as it's Easter.
But anyways. I'm in the middle of sketching page #58 of AFCAH. It's got about 90% fewer humans than #57.

Sketching TF heads
General | Posted 2 years agoShading #57 now
General | Posted 2 years agoI'll be finishing up this comic page right now. If I finish it fast enough, I can start work on the next page in my seal sequence. We'll see.
https://picarto.tv/Rimme
I got out 6 pages in 3 months, so at this rate I'll get 18 pages out for the rest of the year.
All I can say is, each page is a valuable exercise in both art and writing, and it's giving me a new appreciation for people who can do it every day, or even every week. No matter what the final quality of the comic is, that's valuable stuff.

General | Posted 2 years agoI'll be inking tonight the next comic page around 6:10 EST, while watching some classic rock documentaries (in both senses). See you then!

General | Posted 2 years agoInking tonight
General | Posted 2 years agoAt https://picarto.tv/Rimme , I'll be drawing two humans the very best I can. See you there!
(Yes, I also hate when artists only announce streams the second they post, and then they end like an hour later so you never get the chance to see them...)

Shading #56 tonight, notes on stage variance
General | Posted 2 years agoAt https://picarto.tv/Rimme in about 30 minutes... Knowing me, it'll be around 6:15 EST.
Took a long time to ink, but I'm expecting shading to go faster. I think the way it goes is:
Inking is time spent on details;
Coloring is time spent on characters/items
Shading is time spent on broad areas
So the inking can vary dramatically depending on how many "figures" there are total, "figures" constituting characters and items and clothes and furniture and other things (note to self, maybe leave the background details as sketches so that they become unoutlined color areas in the final work);
Coloring varies by how tiny the details are and how many different characters there are;
and shading only varies by how much positive space there is... which varies very little.
Now, I wonder if maybe my sketch should include a value sketch, which I can reference in the coloring and shading. Something I should perhaps try out in #57...
Or maybe in phase 2 when no one is in a consistently brightly-lit building.
So as I said: see you at https://picarto.tv/Rimme !

Inking in the afternoon, coloring at night
General | Posted 2 years agoSpring break ends tomorrow, so I want to try to finish the next AFCAH page before then. So I'm doing two of my usual drawing streams today. The first will be at 2:00 PM EST, and should last 3 hours or so until I finish the inking. Then I'll take a break, and be back for the second stream at 6:00 PM EST to do the coloring.
This page already feels much easier than the last page. I think the big delay between streams took away my momentum and caused me unnecessary grief. I'll try to do better going forward, so that I'm always getting something drawn every day, no matter what.
See you at https://picarto.tv/Rimme soon!

Sketching page #56 now
General | Posted 2 years agoSo, the last page took a long time to get out. 33 days. Yes, I've had worse hiatuses before, but before #42, 33 days would have been an average gap, not like my current average of 16 days. There are a few things that caused the delay, but there's nothing I can do about that now. Instead, I'll be working on the follow-up to that moment in #55.
I'm at https://picarto.tv/Rimme right now. See you there!

Shading/rendering and sketching soon
General | Posted 2 years agoThe seal picture is coming along well. I am close to finishing it, so I will most likely be sketching another segment in the planned seal sequence, so that I can start tomorrow on the next comic page. You can watch me at https://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6:30 PM EST, where I'll also be watching Free Willy sequels. See you soon!
Coloring tonight

More inking tonight
General | Posted 3 years agoYeah, I didn't get as far as I wanted with the inks on Wednesday. Thankfully, there's no commissions or anything to stop me from taking another day more, so I'm spending another day inking today, starting now at Picarto! See you there!
Inking tonight, #55
General | Posted 3 years agoI have a free evening again for Wednesday, so I will spend it on more drawing the next AFCAH page at https://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6 PM EST. See you then!
