Now that I've gone through all of my commissions, I'm taking the week off from streaming so I can spend more time focusing on schoolwork. You might have noticed how my journals have gotten very terse lately, with me giving the bare minimum info every night.

It seems like every day most of my time is spent focusing hard on something, whether it's a book or a TV show or music or a computer program or a class schedule or homework. Everything has to be studied and remembered and reacted to; there's no more coasting and just living in the moment. As much as I don't want that, though... I also do want it. The short-term gain of tuning out and relaxing ("recharging") leads to long-term struggles to get back to schoolwork and studying. In the middle of a semester, no less, when I'm not even ahead of the curve.

That's enough of a ramble for now, I have to get some dinner. I spent too many 10-minute breaks already just collecting my thoughts for those two paragraphs above. So much I'd love to write and discover in myself, so little time.

Don't know how I feel to get here, after so many years of planning this scene. I have a slight suspicion that some people will be confused by this page, or think it comes out of nowhere. My job as a comic writer certainly isn't helped by the fact that I made the first 5 pages as weird as possible, and I've been spending the rest of the comic backtracking and trying to slowly build back believability. And these last couple pages go heaviest into justifying everything.

And yet, I'm not sure I would do it any differently. Page for page, I've had a lot of fun making this comic, and I still have fun reading it. So this page is my little self-indulget reward for making it this far.

Sorry, I've been getting exhausted by constant coding, studying, reviewing, and organizing over the past days. I've fallen a bit behind on the narrative side of this last commission page. So I'll be taking the night off tonight, and taking an extra day of work on Sunday. See you then.

It's funny how the 3 pages of shark comics happens to coincide with the 3 pages of Trent's story. It means that lately my comics work is packing tons of narrative into what is ordinarily simple visual work. Just a little observation.

Once again, I'm back to do some drawing. Man, 2 days without drawing is about the most I can go without. I'd hate to think what would happen if I had to cancel streams on Friday now, like I did last semester.

It's been a busy past couple of school days, but I'm ready to get back to drawing by inking tonight, at https://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6:30 PM EST.

One thing I do miss is getting to draw for fun. Sure, I'm not getting paid to draw my webcomic (I still haven't figured out how to Patreon-ize it), but I miss drawing other TF ideas. Things that I keep picking up and putting aside because I have only half an hour of free time. Stuff that, like my pencil drawings, I could just spend 3 hours on the side not worrying if I'm too slow or too sloppy compared to other artists.

Well, I'll find time eventually. Just gotta stay strong and trust that the time will come.

EDIT: Might be on a bit late tonight, have to take care of a few things first. Shouldn't affect things too much, though, so don't worry!

A few notes to bring up: I clarified a couple things on my commission info, mostly that paw, tail, or face focus is a "yes" to balance out any "maybe"s. Yes, I am still open to commissions, and I've added a link in my journal footer to my commission info.

Just a heads-up: this semester is going to be one of my busiest semesters yet. I've already given up Wednesdays for streaming; it's possible that I'll lose another day as well. As such, although I have the next items on my queue up, I've avoided assigning them nights, until I know what my evening schedule will look like. Rest assured that I will not forget anyone, and that I will always find a way to finish up your commissions.

It is worth repeating to myself that AFCAH is both a training ground to improve myself, where the only person I have to please is myself; and it's a piece of artwork and a story in its own right. Every page has its own challenges, and in this case it's "how do I give exposition through dialogue without getting overwrought and overcomplicated -- and how do I know whether something is or isn't overwrought or overcomplicated"?
