Now that I know how the 3 pages will look, I've changed my stream schedule around so I can finish the 1st page this weekend. Since I have an evening class on Wednesday nights (intermittently, some are optional), I've also moved some dates forward. So my plan was to get my car's oil changed while dinner cooked back home, since I have an extra hour after work before streaming. But I pushed the wrong button, and dinner didn't cook. I've started it back up now, but at a certain point during the stream, I will be stopping to eat for about 15 minutes.

I'm currently writing from a hotel room in Ohio, resting before I get back on the road tomorrow for a seven hour drive home. I had a great time with   jackthelizard for the holidays and my 33rd birthday, and though I wish it could last longer, I have to head home for the next semester.

I hadn't planned on spending so much time sketching, or even doing any sketching, but it turned out to be a pleasant diversion for me, and hopefully all of you. It's the first time I got to do completely personal art since that Aromatisse comic in April. And I didn't have to disrupt my "working" art schedule. I may end up making those pencil drawings a weekly thing on Sundays... or I may end up making them a separate kind of commission. I'll need some time to figure out how it will work.

I plan to reupload the three Race Better pictures next week, when I have access to a scanner (I left my sketchbook with the other five sketches at Jack's). And in the meantime, I will be resuming my nightly streams starting tomorrow, when I start sketching the next page of AFCAH. Sketching is an early indicator of how long inking will take. Generally inking already goes an hour over, and since I stopped sketching half an hour later than usual, I'll want to make sure I start earlier.

I'm now streaming the sketch of page #50 of AFCAH. A milestone of sorts... though given the 9 year development, it's not as much of a milestone as it could be. The bigger milestone is the fact that I've kept AFCAH regularly updated for 3 months now, which is a longer time I've kept it updated than any other time in its history (spreadsheet). I look forward to keeping it going next year and beyond.

Back to my part-time job, which means I don't get to write journals until much later, so you all have less warning than usual. So, here's a spreadsheet of the release dates of my comic, and how long each page took (not counting the 3 "redux" pages I made).

It's strange to know that I've spent 9 years on a single in-universe hour. I mean, I love my comic, but it's more accurate to say I love the plans for my comic. A lot of early pages were written by the seat of my pants, and deliberately vague about what was going on; I didn't settle on a firm backstory until around page 19, by that point I'd become too invested in the idea that AFCAH is a TF anthology to scale back on the number of characters. Why not make a comic that encompassed the entire company? Even if most of their stories aren't really going to appear until, I don't know, a couple more 50-page phases or beyond.

So, this page and the last two pages have been less about the cool exciting things being done, or the tense inner lives of the characters, and more about setting up things for much later on. I'm a bit uncomfortable promising that there will be payoff in the future, because look how little story I've produced in 9 years. But... I'm hopeful that things will be different this time, that my current pacing isn't a fluke. And, heck, I might even get to Phase 2 by the end of next year. We'll see.

So again... coloring tonight on my stream. Coloring is one area I definitely feel I have room for improvement, so I'm eager to try it out tonight. See you there!
