I don't know if I'll jinx myself by saying this, but it does feel like my art skills somehow leveled up alongside my birthday a week ago. It somehow feels a lot easier to frame the panels, pose my characters, and express their anatomy than before. I think I might need to change up my shading, though. I always like the realistic rendering, but it's kind of at odds with the hard edged inking that lowers the uncanny threshold (as my "painterly" attempts tend to be). At least for this comic, the coloring is going to be much simpler.

Tonight I'll be filling a whole page with color (though mechanically, that amounts to 95% laying out the boundaries for each region of color, and 5% of filling them with color), so feel free to watch me starting 5:30 PM ET (a tiny bit earlier so I can end earlier). See you then!

So, there is a flaw in my plan to pick a winner (for my raffle) as soon as I hit 900 watchers... I haven't hit 900 yet, and who knows how long it will take until I get there. It's usually within a day of posting a new drawing, which means I'll probably it by next week.

But my ADHD brain keeps worrying that someone will be inconvenienced by the possibility that they won't be checking FA every single day and thus won't know that they've won until they find a convenient time. At least if I had planned a specific day in advance to pick someone, they might keep that day in mind as a time to look.

Funny how I care more about this little thing that doesn't matter than the big things that do (like, say, working on the next page for @AFewChangesAroundHere). I suppose my brain is a little rattled from the whole losing my job yesterday.

Every time I get tempted into not posting a streaming journal -- because maybe just this once I shouldn't be spammy with people -- my fiance reminds me to do it.

And, the more I think about it, the more I can get behind it. There are other artists who spam it constantly, and I still enjoy their work. It just seems, sometimes, that they get more pictures out of it than I do. But I suppose if you're living your life your way, letting the announcements come and go while you game or read or exercise or binge or party, then they all run together.

I'm going to continue the drawing I started yesterday, inking and then coloring (and shading if possible). Starts at 6 PM ET.

I'm never dry on TF ideas. There's always something new that comes up for me to work on. So I'll be working on an opossum sequence that I started during my lunch break earlier today.

I'm heading over to have dinner with family in an hour, so no stream tonight. I'm going to finish up the shading for this comic in a little bit.

I think the issue I've had is that I'm at a point in my comic where I need to stop creating new backstory, and start using the old backstory I've already created and work it into the comic. Of course, everyone only knows my comic as "that office comic" or "that jellybean comic", so they have no idea how much everything is blocked out. It turns out, all the exposition I put out in pages 52-64 did was confuse and annoy people.

What confuses and annoys me, of course, is that everything I love about this comic comes in phase 2 or phase 3, and nobody shares that feeling I've had for years. Obviously that means I should try to finish this intermission as fast as possible...

I know how the intermission will end. I could simply end it with a 7th page. But should I add an 8th page to introduce a villain who won't appear until phase 3, God knows how many years in the real-world future when I get to it? It would also introduce a new kind of animal to the world...

Christmas vacation begins on the 21st for me. I'll have time for one more page. But it's been 123 days since the last page. Everyone can wait another 3 weeks for a final intermission page.

I'm back from MFF. I pretty much fell on the bed after a long night drove and woke up around 4 in the morning, too anxious about job training later today to fall asleep. Fortunately, it went just fine and it looks like it will be pretty manageable for me. I guess, in hindsight, I could have just woken up at 4 in the morning and left MFF early then, but that would have been just as nerve-wracking.

From a combination of leaving my small sketchbook at home and roaming between panels, I didn't get a whole lot of drawing done at MFF. I spent a big chunk of time on Friday networking with tech furries at the meet and greet, but I had much more fun running an escape room with my roommates, and then even more fun when   writingwillona came by at the TF panel to introduce me to several TF people I'd been loving for years:   royalpoodle and   mogg and   LappiFox . We hung out on Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening, which made me prolong my trip back home by a few hours before I finally had to leave.

I hope I can finish some of the sketches I drew at MFF some time. For now, I'll be continuing the comic in a few minutes in stream. Shading this time, maybe some tiny coloring clean up. I'm still not happy with the dialogue, I want to actually go through my notes so I remember the backstory for all this mess.

The not-so-great thing about having so many projects at once is that you get so involved with wrapping some up that you forget the others still hanging over you.

I will do another sketch stream some day. It will probably be another spur of the moment thing, though, and not before the 11th.

When marketing succeeds, it feels authentic. When it doesn't succeed, it feels fake. If we're not told ahead of time whether the marketing was successful or not, how would we know if it feels authentic or not?

I might have come off a bit over-eager for commissions. It's possible that there's something slightly off about my latest works that is dissuading people from buying. Or it might just be that people are saving up for MFF. In any case, I'll try to limit my promotional stuff to once a week or so.
