No stream tonight, homework
General | Posted a year agoIt's hard for me to admit when I'm slowing down. I'm only going to draw for about an hour or so today, as I have a bunch of homework to work on -- last big project of the semester, due tonight. A bunch of roadblocks that I would normally take a day off to recuperate from... that I now just have to grind through because there's no time.
I'm close to being done, since I got through all the hard stuff. I just need about two to three hours to finish it off. Then I can do a bit of coloring and resting. I'll do another journal post tomorrow to let you know where I'm at.

Kangaroo #4 inking stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoI wonder if there are other artists who have the same rigid drawing schedule that I do. For all my planning, there is the practical reality that some stages will take longer than others.
That said, I will try to do all the inking for page #4 tonight. This page has six figures compared to page #3's nine, so it shouldn't take as long. But there's also the dialog to hand-write as well, and that could take a while.
Fingers crossed and ears out, we'll see how it goes.

Kangaroo #3 shading stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoHa ha, I have to fight my natural instincts to conceal my activities once I've started piquing people's interests.
I don't know what's the worse feeling: not posting anything for much of April, or starting to post something that will take an average of four days to post. I'm sorry for torturing you guys for not posting my long sequences all at once. At least the feeling is slightly mitigated by having it all sketched by now, so that there's a worst case scenario in place.
I went to the trouble of making a spreadsheet showing my expected work schedule, allotting myself for each page 2 days to ink, 1 day to color, and 1 day to shade. As I said yesterday, it looks like I'll be done by Memorial Day. I've got one Sunday marked as a free day -- gotta recuperate from a long stressful semester, after all -- and one Saturday marked as a double kangaroo day.
I'll still post the 2nd page tomorrow, but I'll resist the urge to post the 3rd page -- the one I'm drawing tonight -- until next Tuesday. But if you're really impatient and want to see the start of our kangaroo TF, you can watch at https://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6:30 PM ET.

Monday coloring stream
General | Posted a year agoI'll be coloring page #3 of the kangaroo sequence tonight at 6:30 PM, at https://picarto.tv/Rimme
I will also start posting the kangaroo sequence on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It'll take about a month still to finish, but according to my schedule, I have a nice round day to finish it on Memorial Day. There shouldn't be any more days that I'll have to skip drawing from now on. In fact, during finals week, I could probably get away with a double stream, to spend another 2.5 hours drawing things that aren't kangaroos. Like weasels, or cats, or gryphons, or anteaters, or the Kustah, or some intermission AFCAH pages.
Ah well. Gonna keep on moving. See you tonight!

Inking roomen stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoInking is often a double-edged sword. "Sword", in this metaphor, means "task", and "edge" means "nights spent on it". But it's not as if it's an unpleasant task, though, just time-consuming. I notice that most art streams I join tend to be about inking -- either because it's the most time-consuming part of the job, or because coloring and shading is less eye-catching.
Inking is great streaming material, though. You get to literally see form and feature leap out of a haphazard sketch, breathing life into a drawing. And when you get really into it, the high is amazing, much more than coloring or shading. There's a lot less questioning my own technique and ability in inking, nowadays, than in coloring or sketching. And yet, there's still so much to learn.
I'll be streaming at 6:30 PM ET at the usual:

Sniffy shading stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoOoh, almost forgot the journal.
Just doing some shading tonight to finish up the 2nd kangaroo page. It's the page that has the smallest amount of kangaroo in it. That's why it won't take very long.

Color the humans, make them roo-mans -- stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoSo now I go back to the beginning. Adding some backgrounds and flat colors to page 2 of the kangaroos. Want to know something astonishing? This is a page I haven't touched in six weeks. Where does the time go?

Really final kangaroo sketch stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoAh, field trips.
Fun but exhausting.
I won't be doing a lot of drawing tonight. Just enough to finish the kangaroo page I stumbled over two days ago. I'll get to the Kustah at a later date.

Final kangaroo sketch streaming
General | Posted a year agoYesterday was exhausting, but the marathon is finally ending. Tonight I'll finish up the last sketch of the kangaroo sequence. It should be easier than last night due to my having had a clear vision of the last page for a while. When I finish (as I have no doubt I will earlier than usual), I can move onto cleaning up the sketch from last night.

Kangathirsty sketch streaming tonight
General | Posted a year agoClearly the solution to a bad pun is to come up with an even worse one.
This page isn't going to be as TF-heavy as the previous three (or six, TBH). It's mostly about the spine and shoulders -- 96% of the TF has already happened, it's now just setup for the pages I drew at the beginning of the year. Still, it's all kangaroos, and after months of drawing them, I think I can crank out quite a few good roos.

Does other comicmakers write out a script for their sequences before storyboarding them? Or do they storyboard with a freeform swapping out of scenes and panels before committing them to a page? Or do they do it all within their program (the way I do it now)?
Feel free to answer here, or on my stream at https://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6:30 PM ET. Thanks!

Kangaweek-long sketch streaming
General | Posted a year agoEvery day for the rest of the week, I'll be streaming another sketch of my long kangaroo sequence. I have about 6 pages left to draw in the sequence (I forget the exact numbers). Once I finish the sketching, I can proceed to inking, coloring, and shading; I should be about halfway through the whole sequence by then. It still looks like I won't be posting it until around mid-May.
Looking forward to some ROO-dimentary TFs this week! Feel free to join in and watch me draw clothing damage, tailsplosions, muzzle growth, and picture speak.

Streaming the Kustah reference tonight
General | Posted a year agoI realize that the Single Earth Saga doesn't really provide the TF-rich content that most of my watchers expect from me, but the Kustah come the closest. This reptilian race practices the Diversion of the Legs, the ability to transmute things temporarily into other forms. With the Hot Flow, this can apply to living beings.
Would I ever demonstrate a Kustah transmuting a Hune into, say, a Zhokan? Maybe some day. For now, I have to work on developing their appearance as well as designing the layout of the reference sheet.
Stream starts at 6:30 PM ET and ends at around 9 PM, at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . Because it's a think-heavy night, I'll be playing some nocturnes and other light piano works. Feel free to stop by and listen in!

Weasel icon stream tonight
General | Posted a year agoI've had my current icon for years, probably since 2015. I was initially going to update it to signify new confidence with my art, but I never did. So... since I made a new icon for my husband, I think now is a good opportunity to try making a new icon for myself. (And to draw my rarely seen fursona.)

General | Posted a year agoMy boyfriend wants to try out a new species, and I want him to try it out as well. I will be drawing an icon for him as a handsome beaver tonight. Afterwards, if I have time (and I should), I'll draw another icon for his text on the Single Eart religions.

Streamin' as usual tonight
General | Posted a year agohttps://picarto.tv/Rimme at 6:30 PM ET.
Not much to say for tonight. I'm at a point where I'm fairly confident at being able to color and render a single figure in two hours. There are a few techniques I need to remember while doing it, but that's my concern. I'm pleased with how the sketch and the inking turned out. I'm looking forward to finishing.
I think I should post a comparison of my sketch with my initial 5 minute sketch, so I can emphasize just how important the first 5 minutes are to any sketch.

Inking and coloring a beaver TF tonight, and daydreaming
General | Posted a year agoTuesdays are homework days for me. This Tuesday is in a bit of a dry spell for homework. So I've had plenty of time to relax before starting another stream tonight. I'll be streaming from 6:30 PM to 9 PM ET, and I'll be at https://picarto.tv/Rimme .
My mind's been wandering a lot today. It does that when it's not stressed over homework. It's been thinking of an old 10-page comic project that continues to inspire me, yet I've never dared try to create. I was never able to get a good script together for it, though I have lines and bits that have always stuck with me. I remember my promises, though. I won't start it until I finish the kangaroo project. It's always been a grayscale comic in my head, which should in theory make it faster to produce than the kangaroo. But first, I need to finalize the script.
Granted, I never wrote out the kangaroo script, but that's because the kangaroo sequence isn't trying to be snarky and witty.

Beaver sketching stream
General | Posted a year agoI'm slowly settling my project debts these past couple weeks. First the Hune, now the third beaver picture in my slowly growing sequence. It's so easy to just keep creating things I want to do, that require actually putting in time to do them.
Well, what's a beaver TF without a big beaver tailsplosion?
Sketching is at 6:30 PM ET at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . See you there!

General | Posted a year agoI'm planning to do some more drawing from around 1:30 PM ET, planning to finish the horse TF first, then color the Hune ref. Then I might switch to sketching a third beaver TF picture, unless I'm whipped by the previous two drawings (probably not) or I get compelled to game for a bit (quite probable).
I'll be at https://picarto.tv/Rimme for at least a few hours. See you then!

The fast is over -- horse TF streaming tonight
General | Posted a year agoI finished the second presentation of my team's group project. All that's left is the final presentation in three and a half weeks. (I mean, in a big picture sense. Once you're planning things out day-by-day, there's still a lot to do.)
Now that homework is stable again, I can do another art stream tonight.
JackTheLizard has cooked up another story, and it's quite a fantASStic ride if I may say so. I'm glad to be at a good enough level where I can crank out illustrations over two days. (Four hours worth of work = 2 days.)
I'll be streaming at 6:30 PM ET, with the goal of getting the inks finished by 8:30 PM ET. See you there!

General | Posted a year agoI'm too far behind on my current team project to do any more art right now. So there will be no more streams for the rest of the week, until further notice.
Thank you.
Thank you.
No thoughts, only kangaroo streams
General | Posted a year agoBack to school, back to drawing kangaroos. I know I have several projects still to work on, and the kangaroo is just one of many... but since I've already established my preference for varying my activities every night, I'd like to start off with another kangaroo page (number 7, I believe) before going back to them.
It occurred to me last night that I might have left my TF chart for this sequence at home with all of my other papers. I didn't even take a picture of it. Well, I'll just have to improvise for these pages. Hmmm, maybe feet-splosion this page, leg-splosion next page, tail-splosion next page.
I start, hopefully, at 6:30 PM ET at https://picarto.tv/Rimme . I say hopefully, for once, not because I'm lazy with dinner, but because I left my dorm keys at home and can only get in if a roommate is in. Don't be mad if I start late this time, please!
