Boot camp... Again
Posted 11 years agoMy co-workers invited me to a boot camp gym and I went for the first time today. @-@
Did some crazy circuit training and ended with a focus on abs. Was so tired when I got home, I wrapped myself around the corner of a couch and slept...kinda. With my cat judging me. I dunno why I didn't just sleep on the couch...
So I'll be trying this out for the next month. Twice a week. Hoping to help my cardio out cause that's like my weakest thing. Everyone there is really friendly and no one is truly fit besides the instructors. So it's nice to not feel like everyone is super ahead of you or that they have dedicated their life to working out (like the feeling you get entering a gym...)

So my birthday...
Posted 11 years agobtw, I'm going to the gym for about an hour. After that I'll have a stream going for all of you staying up late. xP
SO MY BIRTHDAY.... Which I had 0 plans for and really didn't expect anything about...
Started off pretty normal. A hundred and one people commenting on my DA profile, FB page, and IMing me with "happy birthday" for me to thank~
And after that it all kinda died down.
Somehow art that people promised me came in. I got a sketch I got out of free requests a few months ago, and yesterday wonderland-cupcake finished a prize I won. Both were greatly timed surprises, even if they weren't on purpose to come in on my birthday. x3
Old friends came out of nowhere. Some who I thought would never speak to me again dropped by for a birthday wish and that sparked up some good coversations.
And even logging into Brave Frontier today, I did the random daily prize and got a gem! (no one understands unless they play...so it's ok.)
So everything was GREAT... until my boss got a phonecall from the CEO. And my boss then sends me an IM going "That was EL....he's pissed." and the two of us got up to go to his office. I figured it's about the phone or laptop we setup for his trip to India. Ugh. So we turn into the hall and before we get to the CEO door, my boss turns into the lounge and opens the door wide.
AND THERE'S EVERYONE I'VE HELPED OVER MY 7 MONTHS HERE WITH CUPCAKES! And I got a big birthday song and wishes and overall cupcakes! four flavors, and 3 of them are in my top 4 favorite flavors. <3 And it was just so sweet and nice and I turned red from embarrassment but also from trying not to cry from happiness. >w<
After work we had a group go to BJs and we had a lot of fun just eating, drinking, and chatting. Half us being nerds about anime and games and computer stuff while the others were just trying to keep up. My boss was even part of the group, which I find cool to interact with him. It's great when you like your boss and aren't scared to be yourself and share the same humor and whatnot.
And then I came home to a big box in the mail~ And I found out shintai-ab sent me a much bigger box of stuff than I originally expected. Got Bravely Default, a box of Legend of Zelda necklace charms, Link backpack, and my favorite movie- The Last Unicorn. All the goodies~
So.... very nice day. owo

I dunno what to do for my birthday
Posted 11 years agoMay 8th falls on a Thursday. Kinda feels like an awkward day to ask people to come out and celebrate anything.
My favorite place to eat is the Cheesecake factory, but thinking of co-workers that would come out.... I chose a less crowded, little wait time, and less expensive place- BJs... which is alright. But it turns out I'm sharing a birthday with a another co-worker (who isn't from the dark IT cave), and so I'm kinda like "Hmm... mkay, I'll share." That kinda ruins the specialty of it all.
And I don't have any friends that can come and hang out.
The people who are around me aren't close enough friends to actually give me a gift or celebrate outside of this big social gathering for beer at BJs.
Anyone who does ask me what I want for my birthday don't seem to take my requests seriously. (A second computer monitor, a more comfortable not broken computer chair, tights with interesting patterns seem to stump everyone)
Sis asks me what I want to do on Thursday or the weekend. "It's a good reason to have people come hang with you." ... yeah, where? Doing what? My idea of a good day with friends is to sit in silence drawing or making things. I don't really have those kinds of people readily around me.
I'm kinda foreseeing me starting a stream and drawing for other people for my birthday. |D
And then I'll got get a massage. Cause no one will give me one of those, so I'll pay for my own gift to myself. And I'll gift Yanyan a proper cat dish since I celebrate her bday with mine.
This all sounds rather depressing but I'm kinda just "meh" about it all.

Posted 11 years ago...to motivate myself to socialize. I feel like any friendships I made here have just slowly faded into near non existence and I'm left kind of forgotten. I'm somewhat scared to put up a new YCH cause it'll show just how much people will overlook me cause they forgot my name and they're waiting for that other-special-person they do remember to open commissions or something.
And I'm probably just over thinking?

I'm doing a piece of art real quick for a contest (It's what I keep streaming that no one comes to). After that I have an adopt I want to make cause he will NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. My brain says I wanna draw him and sell him cause I can't fit him into anything I write or think of. And then I have 2 YCHs I think will be fun~ cause summer is good motivation.

I think if my parents ask, I'll just request a new computer chair or 2nd 24" monitor. Try to make my home setup as awesome as my work. Maybe then I'll remember to go home before 6pm. oAo

Anime Matsuri End
Posted 11 years agoAnd so concludes my first convention since coming back to the states. I really needed that after all the sucky ass cons I went to in Japan. USA KNOWS HOW TO DO ANIME CONVENTIONS. Now to hit one up in Europe somehow... hmm
Day one I got there at like 8pm due to work, and still had a blast with what time I had left. Everyone loved the quick moogle costumes my sis and I put together. Made me happy how many stopped us for pics. :3 I went to the formal dance and had plenty of dance partners. At one point me and someone dressed as Sebastian (Kuroshitsuji) decided we'll go around the room and dance with anyone who seemed to need a partner. Just to spread the happiness.
I honestly didn't like the rave so much, so I spend the rest of the time playing Jubeat until the security guards told everyone to get out. Security was really rude this convention. :\
Saturday there was a lot of running around. I'm happy I had a good amount of people recognize me as Nadeshiko! I know the anime was overlooked or forgotten over the years. (mostly foreign people called out to me) Spend most of my time in the dealer's room looking at EVERYTHING... and slapping my hand and tightening my wallet strings so I didn't buy anything I didn't need or had a use for. So I only bought 3 wallscrolls (Hakuoki, Spice and Wolf, and Magi), 2 prints from :devblix-it:, and commissioned a button of Kakeru having a nosebleed. x3 Also commissioned a paper lantern to be made for me, but it wasn't finished. The artist is currently keeping up with all she owes through text. Luckily she lives near me and I'll pick it up when she's done. :3
I did get to ask how some stuff was made, so maybe I'll have even more hobbies to try out soon.
Quite honestly I enjoyed myself greatly at the night shows. Nerdlesque (yep, burlesque for nerds) was greatly entertaining. I hope they have it again next year... and add guys. And the Hentai Fest panel was HILAROUS....
Sunday was just spent walking around, fitting in what I could of Jubeat, and last minute pictures cause I didn't take pictures almost at all. DX We left at 4 or so, and I passed out at home about 6pm... and slept 'til 7am today. ha ha
Energy well spent. :3

On Saturday I'll be dressed as Nadeshiko Fujisaki from Shugo Chara. Sunday may likely be the same, and I'll leave by noon.

This is to stomp on anyone who thinks they can’t do some art because they don’t have Photoshop or Paint Tool SAI.
This is also for those who don’t want to crack programs, illegally download them, or would like to get their illegal copy off their computer for any reason whatsoever.
I really don’t care if you get your stuff illegally. That’s on you. I don’t like it because I have more respect for the company and myself as I am, and I like to avoid the malware that’s likely bundled and released into the background of all non-legit downloads.
Maybe if I knew about these programs, I would have never bought the ones that I did… oh well.
I have not personally tested many of these out. Maybe I’ll start working down this list to give personal reviews. If you have something to say about any of them, or would like to add to the list, it would be most appreciated.
Also the comment "...or you can just torrent an illegal copy of PS/SAI." is gonna sound REALLY FUCKING DUMB after I give so many free alternatives. Almost every time I give a list like this anywhere, there's some smartass trying to get everyone down on their level. I. DON'T. CARE. if you have an illegal copy and somehow think you're smarter for having such. I will continue to fail and understand your reasoning because I know this long list exists, so we'll just leave it at that.

Lovely Day to All
Posted 12 years agoNo matter how you spent the day, I hope you found it content or fulfilling. I'm surprise how amazing I felt my day was. From waking up well, having a random commission from over 2 years ago drop on me (I never paid and told her she didn't have to do it cause she was busy), and then went out to eat with my family, it all went so well. Got lots of chocolate from work. People just passed it out everywhere.
Also threw in some skirt shopping... gift to myself?
Course now I'm skyping with someone who means so much to me, but it always good to remind everyone that you don't need one other special person to celebrate today. Just be happy, do what you love and be with who you love. That's more than enough celebrating.
So to all my watchers, friends and fans, Happy Valentines Day. Love to you all. <3
Top ART Peeves
Posted 12 years agoNot artists and their attitudes or what people say in art culture. We all know there's plenty of crappy stuff that gets said. People and their opinions. Wah, no one is looking at my art... no one but me does traditional art... head stuff.
Just seriously... when looking at art... these things will drive me up a wall because of the way they're drawn.
1) First and seen the most... tails. WHERE the tail is drawn. There are no human or humanoid creatures irl who have tails, so it's hard to get my point across when argued with "well it's not like there are real life references" or the fact it seriously can be wherever people want due to their imagination. But face it...not many people are trying to twist their imaginations into something more original. So for most they should be thinking of the tail as an extension of the human spine. Too high, and it looks like the spine must of split off into two. But too low...and it looks like the spine extended and came out of the character's butthole. There is no other way to put it. It just looks bad when the tail is coming out of the middle of their back, but it looks just as weird when the tail is coming out of the character's buttcheeks.
2) <s>Eye space</s> Clannad eyes... I don't think this needs to be really explained if you google Clannad. Just.... who the hell saw the way the character's faces were drawn and thought that was okay? Moreso, the people who see that art and think they want to draw just like it. Spacing eyes is like... face anatomy 101. There are at least 3 ways I've learned to know if an eye is somewhat correctly spaced. It's not even the size of the eyes. Vampire Knight gave Yuki HUGE eyes... but they still look okay cause they're not spaced like a chameleon.
3) Hiding hands. It's okay every so often...but stop making it so obvious by hiding them in every. single. picture. you do. You seriously think no one will notice and all you have to do is know how to make faces look real cute? You might be right...cause... art fans... but hey, if you want to progress a little further as an artist, don't hide your weak areas. Hands are just a big easy one to notice. If it stands out to me and you only post like 1 picture a month, I can't imagine how obvious it would be to someone shifting through all your pictures in one sitting.
4) Wings... I let this one slide the most. If anything, I just pin this rule to myself and not care what anyone else does. I fully believe that wings coming simply out of a humanoid character's shoulder blades will NOT support them at all. Trying to lift and suspend yourself in midair by such small areas in your back just makes me think of stuff like (NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH TO CLICK) http://i.huffpost.com/gadgets/slide.....24945_free.jpg the suspension club does. I think ever since I saw an interview with them, I've never thought wings would work that way again... unless it causes the owner great amounts of pain. So the wings I draw usually take up a larger space on my character's backs. I say I don't hold this against other people, but I do sometimes see winged characters where their wings thin out to connect to their shoulders blades and it just registers as 'wrong' in my mind.
I think that's all I can think of for now. The big 4 that stand out to me the most and I see on a very frequent basis. I have much tinier nit picks there and there, but they're very insignificant and doesn't change my opinion on the art/artist/character at all.

Always something going on, I'm learning new things, and everyone except for this one Chinese lady treats me pretty cool. The other day I got a nice note in my email that was sent to my manager about all the good things being said about me. My evaluation was the next day, and it looks like that email couldn't have come at a better time. <3 The only other time someone flat out made something about me like that nice and out of the blue was when Kilo-DM called me out in a journal entry. I think I'll make a little feel-good folder for this kind of stuff.
Enough about that, let's talk about the silly thing that's on my mind. And the second I heard it, I wanted to tell friends, but I wanted to SAY it...but everyone texts nowadays and then Skype voice was acting bad cause I had a network issue at home.
Sometimes when I fix computers (for the older employees anyway) something really silly is said or happens. This ranges from them trying to correctly use the word "RAM" to a computer that was actually on fire for a few moments... ehem.
Well, one of the manager's computers kept dying when he came in at the start of the day. It needed to be restarted 3 times before it stayed on (It's been resolved, no worries). On the 2nd day, I guess he knew what I did to keep it on, so when I stopped by he was under the desk trying to restart it (and tighten cables?). I asked him if he'd rather have me do that since I'm used to crawling under desks by now (NOTE: AWFUL PLACE TO KEEP YOUR PC.)
When I get under there, there's a note. I pick it up and look at it. There's a lot written on the front and back, but the words I can clearly see easily are:
"JESUS. FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT"
... *laugh* "okay, I'm on it." I joke to myself.
ehem...
I hold up the note and asked if dropped it.
He tolds me "I didn't drop a note, I found a note. That's from the lady who was sitting in the cubicle next to me."
Which, I know her. Constant computer issues, and I'm not even sure what she really does. I did notice that she moved from sitting next to him to the other side of the room pretty much.
He continues, "She thought demons were under her desk, so she wrote letters to tell Satan to go away."
... ... ... TRYING SO HARD TO KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE. OMG RINA, DON'T LAUGH AT HER BELIEFS. OH SHIT REALLY?! LETTERS TO SATAN? NO, DON'T LAUGH. DON'T SMILE. JUST NOD.... LETTERS TO SATAN? ACTUALLY MORE LIKE POST IT NOTES TO SATAN??? NOD RINA, NOD, DON'T CRACK A SMILE.
He chuckles, "Yeah, she wrote a ton of these things and threw them under her desk, a few kept landing on my side."
My eyes quickly dropped to the floor to see if there were any more...
But there wasn't. And probably all the better. But at least now I know if I find a letter under someone's desk to ask Jesus to "fix it", they don't mean the computer... and maybe I should look out for devils under there.

Looking Back. Looking Forward.
Posted 12 years agoFor the most part 2013 was preeeeetttty stressful. Especially May-October... with a highlight of June being the most mentally burdening month in my life. But looking back on it now, I'll never give a fuck about it again. So meh.
Moving sucked. The process of leaving the Navy sucks. Reserves is....eeeehhh....I think it gets better as time goes. Panda Express overall sucked to work at, though the management is swell. Dealing with my family sucks 25% of the time.
But this also is the year I joined the Houston Anime Meetup, sold so many commissions, created a group to play board games with once a week, got a civilian IT job I'm in love with, and finally admitted my feelings to the most wonderful guy who gets me through the day better than coffee. Whew... This fistful of things have made the end of the year just the best for me.
Well, then to 2014~ Resolutions:
>More personal artwork.
>Get a basic understanding of Linux (anyone care to help?)
>Just... exercise for the sake of it?
>Get into investments of some sort.
>Cosplay and Conventions again!

Holiday and Life Stuff

Happy Holidays to everyone I missed saying something to! Most received it via text or mass chatrooms from me.
I didn't do a Xmas list this year...which I find about right, since I don't feel like I've been a good enough friend, artist, or even a consistently active FA-person this year...or at least half this year.
Just so much stuff had gone on since July, and even though I'm comfy and happy, I'm still adjusting quite frankly.
I still love my job. I'm scared if it's all just an illusion caused by the "training" period I'm in. Will it all end by the end of January, when the training time is over? My boss says no... he says they'd have to fight him and rip me away from the IT department if they want me to go. I guess that's a very good sign. o3o;
Xmas gifts, if anyone is wondering~ I got:
A turqoise bracelet from a door prize.
A magnetic bracelet from a gift exchange with my Anime Meetup Group.
A scarf.
Some fuzzy slippers.
$20 and a screwdriver cause I spun a prize wheel at my job's holiday social.
Dat be it. The only real gifts were the scarf and slippers from my cousins. I think mom, dad, and sis still want to do some kind of gift exchange, but we all seem to be late and uncertain of what to ask for. I think I'm gonna give dad my $20... \o3o/
And...I think that's it for random thoughts. My life is like:
>Work
>Board game night once a week.
>Anime Meetup 1-3 times a month.
>FFXIV
>Drawing when time at work allows.
I've been feeling kind of floaty and detached from the world otherwise.Maybe cause I'm in love. I'll come back down soon.
