Last day of work tomorrow!
Posted 9 years agoTomorrow is the last day I'll be working for someone else, and then I'll be doing art full time!
I'll be taking a long weekend this weekend since my birthday is on Monday, but I'll be streaming regularly and powering through as much art as I can muster starting next Tuesday!
In other news, I've started playing FFXIV again so like, if anyone following me is on Cactuar, my character name is Rinzy Ringtail so like, HMU!

Posted 9 years agoHey everyone! I thought I'd give a little update on what's going on with me and how it affects my art.
So, today I took a big, scary step and put in a month's notice at my day job so that I can focus my time and effort more efficiently to producing artwork. Obviously, this is gonna have serious ramifications on my art that I'm hoping will end in a net positive:
1. I will be taking on new commissions soon, and hopefully more regularly.
2. I will have time to produce more personal content and begin work on comics!
3. I will officially have the option to do your commission in my underpants. (No, I really won't, but it's the thought that counts, right?)
Hopefully, this is going to be a step in the right direction for me as this job has been making it very difficult to consistently produce artwork, which has lead me into the depths of some pretty deep depression, which has made it very difficult to consistently produce artwork and I think you guys get it.
So, here's to the future!

New Commission System - Waitlist! (Open!)

I'm shifting the way I do my commissions from a queue of full pieces to something a little more flexible where I can work on full commissions and take some smaller stuff as well. So what does this mean?
I'll be working on my commissions by taking one full commission only at a time. Since that means that I'll have a much more limited selection of slots, the only way to get a full commission from me in the future will be to add your commission to my waitlist. This waitlist will be available publicly in a separate journal. Once I complete a full commission, I'll be moving to the next request on the waitlist and all future commissions will come with a two week guarantee--if I don't finish it within two weeks of confirming your commission with you, you'll get the money you paid down back.
That brings me to my next new thing: down payments. On all future commissions over $100, I will take a 50% down payment and then upon completion, I will send a second invoice for the rest. You will not be billed until I receive the go ahead to start working from you, and by filling out the Google form to get on the waitlist, you are under no obligation to commit to the commission.
If you're interested in getting on my waitlist, I have a handy Google form to fill out that can be found here and in a link at the end of this journal. In the coming days, I will also be posting a revamped official version of my ToS that includes this change among a few others. All people who fill out the doc will be notified of the ToS change before I confirm their commission.

General Update! Pens and moving!

Amazon says my new pen should be here by tomorrow, so I'll be trying to get back in action on that tomorrow night or Wednesday night. I've got several full-color commissions and sticker packs to do, so it may be a couple of weeks before I open up for commissions again.
Related to my next round of commissions! We are moving to a new place towards the end of this month, so my next round of commissions is likely going to be solely sketches and sticker packs. I don't know if I'm going to have enough time during the move to consistently work on anything larger. My general going price is $25 per character on a sketch and $10 per sticker on a pack, so if either of those are something you're after, they'll be available ASAP!
I also plan to review and update my ToS relatively soon.

Posted 9 years agoI had planned to work and post a good bit more, but I've been waiting nearly two weeks for Microsoft to ship me a replacement pen for my SP2. Fed up with waiting, I ended up ordering a different pen through Amazon, so I'll be back in the saddle next week around Wednesday, provided I don't magically get a stylus in my mailbox this week.
Waitlist for Commissions - Trying it out
Posted 9 years agoAlright guys, I've been toying with this idea and I think I'm going to go ahead and try it out and see how it works. I'm going to start a waitlist for future rounds of commissions, because I run a small queue and get a lot of people asking once I've already filled up.
So this is how this is gonna work.
If you're interested in a commission, and I am full up, I'll add you to the waitlist. This waitlist does not guarantee a slot during the next commission round. Commissions lots are only guaranteed when at least a partial payment is made on a commission. That means that if you're on the waitlist, and will be tentatively added once the queue starts. If another person comes along, and they have money ready to go, all tentative commissioners will be bumped down a slot to make room, and anyone who exceeds the 5 pieces limit will be bumped back into the waitlist.
I feel like this is fair, because it gives people a chance to get work from me who otherwise may miss when I open up, while still allowing people who are ready to go a fair chance at getting their commission done.
If you have suggestions to improve this system, let me know. I'll be reevaluating it at the end of my April/May cycle and adjusting as necessary, or scrapping it entirely if it's not working.

Considering buying a Surface Pro 2--Thoughts?
Posted 9 years agoThinking of getting an SP2 as a secondary workstation so that I can work on commissions while I'm not at my desktop, namely like, waiting on the bus, car rides, breaks at work, etc. Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it worth it? Should I look for something that comes with the pen, or will an after market pen work as well?

I don't remember what my goals for this year were, tbh, but going into 2016 my goal is going to be simple: produce more artwork and get to a point where I can sustain myself without relying on a day job to get the bills paid.
What about you guys? What's your goal for next year going to be?
