Posted 9 years agoMy name is Krystal. I joined the furry fandom back in December 2014, fueled by the cuteness of Dutch Angel Dragons. Which made me create my first Dutch Angel Dragon Toucan.

This was back when there was a 2 Dutch Angel Dragon limit. But then I thought I would try my shot at making an Adoptable. That's where Rio originated. During the time when my dog was terribly sick from pancreatitis, and was rushed to the Vet. She was put on a drip overnight with medication. It was the first time she was alone. I felt horrible. Then, a few days later while she was recovering, our horse, Jay-Buck, ran through a fence at my Mum's friends place where she was loaning him, [2 years prior another of our horses ran through a fence at the very same spot, and broke her hip and sadly had to be euthanised]. As the Vet Nurse in training, Mum made me give huge needles full of penicillin and a paste of Beut to drench. A few days later, I notice his condition was worsening, I called the Vet in the morning, then called Mum. When the vet arrived, Jay had collapsed and his mouth was ice cold. We spent 5 hours giving him fluids and medication. He was such a beautiful horse who wouldn't hurt anyone. He was in so much pain he was attacking everyone. Rearing up and trying to get away. But we were only trying to help. When the Vet left we had 100 things we had to do to keep him alive. Mum returned to the house with Dad as she was a mess. But then I saw that he had collapsed against the iron fence, and [caution ahead] he was defecating his own insides out. The look on his face, he didn't want to leave us, he was only 17. I rang the vet to come out to euthanise him. I ran home to tell mum, when I ran back to Jay, he had passed over Rainbow Bridge. Our whole family was a fit of tears. I tried to comfort Mum, she was ecstatic, her second horse to leave her. And that's when Rio was created.
Rio means so much to me. He represents my dogs survival and another's sacrifice. I based him on a macaw and 'Chunky' [From the Croods]. I wanted to make him colourful and happy. He brings so much joy to me and my Mum loves him to bits. She was so happy when he was accepted to become a fursuit.
