Yeah, i know it's been a long-ass time since i last checked up on this ol' site. It's been pretty hectic, but that's what i tend to say every time i drop off of the face of the earth. my parents were in town last weekend and dragged me to vegas! it was the huge family reunion again, the first in five years. it's kinna nice to see relatives again after so many years... especially when they don't mind that one gets drunk every now and then. then again, they could be like a bunch of uncles in Vietnam who have gotten me so very drunk those last couple of nights there.

so i moved to Long Beach a couple weeks ago, currently occupying the guest room (re: former garage) at my aunt and uncle's house. it's nice and big and full of linoleum. moving and preparing for another move has kept me pretty wrapped up recently, though i'm pretty thankful for some of the downtime here and there.

lot of chillin', lot of drinkin', lot of hangin' out going on as well. it's pretty cool to see the peeps on a more regular basis. i think i've been utilising the sketchbook more than the tablet this month, gotta keep the skill with the pencil sharp as it has dulled quite considerably the past couple months.

Problem is that there really isn't anything to post about lately. Well, kinda.

Hung out with a bunch of cool peoples this weekend, got some sketchbooking in, had dinner with the relatives (my cousin just graduated from CSU Fullerton) and drank a lot.

'Read a few green books' as well as trying to get down a few new drawing ideas down on some kind of media. Paper or Electrons, it doesn't matter. The fact is that i gotta get that arting kick back like i the one i had in February. i wish things would settle down a bit now so i can actually have the time and patience to draw. Preferrably three months ago, but there isn't a damn thing i can do about that now is there?

Hot damn, Califur is this weekend. Whoever is attending, be seein' you there!

So i started a new job on Monday. That means that i work from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, in addition to the current night job i have. Suffice to say, i'm going to be really fuckin' busy for a little while. i'll try to get any art that i owe done in whatever spare amount of time i have. All i ask is for your patience.<br>

Seriously, though, what the fuck? i understand that artists come and go faster than the turnover rate at a call center, but it seems nowdays that people are starting to give up a little too easily. Sure, several discouraging comments may fly your way, however, are you going to let words defeat you?

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.

TO THE BEGINNING ARTIST: You all have a reason to touch a pencil to paper, a stylus to tablet, a brush to canvas, a note to an ear drum and so forth. It may be a different reason to each individual, but the drive is there. In a fast-paced world where technology is making everything cold and sterile, the very same technology is giving all of us even more options to make your creative mark on society. Breathe a little variety and warmth into this monotonous world. NEVER, and i do mean NEVER let anyone stifle your creativity. You'll do a gross disservice to the rest of those who crave what you have to offer. There's going to be people who really dig what you produce, there's going to be people who think quite the opposite. If you seek to improve upon your art, learn how to take criticism, both the good and the bad. How are you going to figure what to do next time if you don't take into consideration what someone else sees? As the old addage goes, "You can't please everyone." Though, you can sure as hell try... and do your best while you're at it, too.

TO THE EXPERIENCED ARTIST: Never forget where your roots lie. Every single person who contributes their art to the world had to have a start somewhere. Whether you had the talent from the very beginning (ya bastids ;3) or rose up from the stick-figure wading pool, you've definitely seen your styles grow, change and evolve over time. Did you simply say "FUCK IT ALL I'M NEVER DOING THIS SHIT AGAIN" when someone gave you a discouraging comment? Hell no! You kept on doing what you love, strove to improve, and perhaps shoved it in the faces of those who said "your art sucks" when they came back to say "omg i'm your fanboy/fangirl now." X3 The beginning artist looks up to you, and a little bit of encouragement every so often does a whole load of wonders. Let's face it: you guys like a little encouragement every now and then too. ;]

Understand that you won't become the next superstar artist sensation overnight. It takes an assload of time to develop these skills. For some, it may only be a matter of months. For others, it could very well mean years upon years. Though one thing is for certain: everyone is always finding a way to improve (and stagnation can be a real bitch). So keep on doing what you do. Art blocks and the lack of motivation will constantly be on your tail, but it's all a part of being an artist. Hell, even a most well-known Renaissance artist like Michaelangelo (the dude who painted the Sistine Chapel) had to draw one elbow, oh i'd say 36 times before he got it to a point where he thought it to be decent. And that was just a preliminary sketch! i've always found that to be really inspiring for some reason.

As for me? i'm by no means an artist, just some dude who thinks he can draw. X3

Sheeyit, i almost forgot to put '07 on my drawings now and it's well into the year 2007 at this point. Dude, i have GOT to dig out my tablet from the confines of these moving boxes. At the same time, i'm rediscovering the enjoyment in drawing up of sketchbook pages. Digital schitt is really cool and convenient (not to mention a lot less messy), but there's absolutely nothing like traditional media as well.

The smell of a fresh sketchbook with all of those clean, bright pages...
