So-Cal Furry Artists!
Posted 7 years agoHey, ever thought of getting a table at either Long Beach Comic Con (fall) or Long Beach Comic Expo (spring)? We need more of a furry art presence there! And the tables are not that expensive...
DuckTales 2017
Posted 7 years agoThe 2-part 1st season closer of the newly revamped DuckTales was a mind-blower -- like much of this season has been. My husband actually feels that this new DuckTales may be a little bit TOO intense and serious... And I can kind of see his point. But I think I like it. The new Magica De Spell is a total Wowser, by the way...

Upcoming Art Opportunities
Posted 7 years agoOkay, so... My husband and I have been working on several avenues for promoting furry art, all of which we hope to get moving in the near future.
1. My mate came up with this idea for a sort of "mini furry con" which would be SPECIFICALLY about furry art and ONLY furry art. No fur-suits, no dances, no social stuff... Just a couple dozen tables in the Den of Dealers, and lots of art how-to lectures about furry art, cartoon art, "real animal" art, and so forth. Not held at a hotel -- more likely at a community center over a weekend.
2. Remember those Art of Furry Fandom shows we put on at the Avant Garden in Santa Ana (CA)? Remember how we whined when the gallery closed its doors? Well guess what: They re-opened again, in another location, still in Santa Ana. And they are very interested in renting us some space to have another show sometime soon. We would very much like to take them up on that.
3. We just discovered that the San Diego Comic Con Art Show has moved out of the Sand Diego Convention Center and down the street a ways to the Hyatt Hotel. And guess what? You do not need a Comic Con membership to get in and view the show -- OR to enter art in it! All you need is $35 to rent a full panel -- they don't even take out a commission from your sales. They had some cool furry art in the show this year, but they can always use more!
4. On that note, if you live in Orange County CA (like we do), the OC Fair has a great art show too. They've had furry art in it before (they've even showcased a couple furry artists), but they could also use some more!
Do any of these sound like things you might be interested in taking part in? Please Message Me and let me know! We'd love to help you get involved. And please, help us spread the word to other artists!

MLP:FIM Season 8 Start-Up
Posted 7 years agoTo quote a certain rabbit I'm very fond of: Sweet Cheese and Crackers!
There was more coolness in the two-part Season 8 opener of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic than I've seen in a long long time...! I was gasped so many times I was afraid I'd hyperventilate. This season is off to one heck of a start already. And we're counting the seconds until the new artwork starts showing up... [And we don't just mean ponies either!]

Please Share This Post!
If you're NOT going to CaliFur but you'd like to put something in the show... message me. We'll see what we can do.

Weird World News...
Posted 8 years agoSo, tonight I decided to indulge myself and eat out (cheap, but still) after a relatively good day at the store. So, I stopped by a local taco chain (I won't name it). While I was waiting for my food, I heard a knock on the glass door nearby. I turn to find this slender homeless-looking fella with very intense eyes staring at me... more like glaring at me. Being the weird guy that I am, I smiled at him. He opens the door, leans in, and says "Be ready to meet your maker!" I thought, hmm, well that's certainly ominous. So, I got my food to go and turned to leave. As I stepped out, this guy comes rushing around the building, snarling and shouting at me, calling me a punk and using lots of foul language. I looked at him, then turned toward my car. He shoved me and bopped me on the arm. I looked at him and said "You know, I like you." He stared a moment, then continued his tirade as he stormed across the parking lot. I got into my car, and he comes rushing up at me, shouting and swearing again. I shut the door and locked it, and he yanked on the door handle and pounded on the glass. I pulled out and drove away, not at any great rate of speed.
Was I scared? That's the funny thing: Not really, no. I felt a little bit of odd excitement (this was certainly an unusual turn of events!) and a whole lot of... pity. This guy was about as pathetic as they come.

Further Confusion Movie-Fan Meet-Up
Posted 9 years agoHey! Going to Further Confusion? I have an idea for an informal meet-up/discussion group that I'm trying to get together for Sunday the 15th at Noon. It's called "2016: The Furriest Year in Movies". It works like this: Grab your lunch, and come join us on the 2nd Floor of the Convention Center at the north alcove (where the Creator Lounge used to be) and let's chat it up about what an incredible year 2016 was for anthropomorphic movies, animated and otherwise. What were our favorites? Why so many at once? And what can we look forward to in 2017 and beyond? Let's discuss!
Presented by Rod O'Riley and the ALAA. Please SHARE this -- we'd like to get a good crowd. It makes for better discussion! :)

Join Me on some Panels at CaliFur?
Posted 9 years agoIf you're coming to CaliFur in SoCal this June (and you definitely should!), I could use some help with a couple of presentations I'm running. I can do them myself, but it's lonely being up on stage by myself! I could use some other animation experts (and fans!) to bounce things off of.
On Friday June 3rd there's "A Salute to Disney's Robin Hood". We'll be talking about the film's origins in the legends of Reynard, the initial concept as a western (!), and the impact the eventual animated film had on the development of Furry Fandom.
Then on Saturday June 4th there's "Zootopia -- Why We Love It". Talking about this new movie and the impact that it has ALREADY had on Furry Fandom and animated movies in general!
If you're in animation or you simply like to talk about it, please Note me if you'd like to take part in our panel discussions. Thank you!

Goodbye Dreamworks
Posted 9 years agohttp://www.cartoonbrew.com/business.....on-139201.html
No one says it precisely, but it appears to be the case: Dreamworks Animation is going away. Comcast plans to fold DWA's feature animation properties into Universal Animation, which is presumably only going to be interested in DWA's most financially successful stuff, like Shrek and Madagascar (and their tie-ins). At this point they MAY complete How To Train Your Dragon 3 and The Croods 2, since they're both in the production line already. But Kung Fu Panda 4 through 6? You can pretty much kiss that goodbye.
Frankly I'm not really tickled about any of this :(

Still Seeking Framed Art!
Posted 9 years agoWe just received a beautiful furry art original from Italy (!) that is going to be part of this year's Art of Furry Fandom display at the Avant Garden gallery in Santa Ana. Now, you know what we also want to have in our show? Your Art! If you have anthropomorphic framed originals or numbered prints that you'd like to have on display at the Santa Ana Art Walk (and afterwards for a month), get in touch with us! We want to have a good representation of what furry artists are up to -- especially those from Southern California. Hurry! We're hanging at the end of April.

Zootopia Shipping: Duh!
Posted 9 years agoWent and saw Zootopia once again. (Yay, Threepeat Weekend!) You know at this stage, I honestly believe that shipping Nick and Judy has gone from speculation to Just Plain Obvious. I mean, seriously, think about it: Who ELSE are they going to hook up with? Could you actually imagine Nick walking up to Judy with his vixen wife and saying this? "Dear, meet Judy Hopps. She's my partner on the force, we went through a death-defying adventure together, and I'VE HAD HER NECK IN MY MOUTH. Judy, meet my wife."
Zootopia: Relationships.
Posted 9 years agoHoo my... Me? I would NEVER have had the guts to ask the directors of Zootopia some of these questions right to their faces. But ask this guy does, and their answers are surprisingly candid.

Furry Art Gallery Show in Santa Ana
Posted 9 years agoNot for a few months yet, but we're making things move right now! Once again the Avant Garden Gallery (in the historic Santora Building in Santa Ana, CA) will be hosting a month-long multi-artist display dedicated to The Art of Furry Fandom. This time it's through the month of May. If you have framed original 2D art or original prints that you would like to be a part of the show, please get in touch with me! I know when we talked about last year's successful show, several artists said they wish they could have been a part of it. Well now is your chance! Remember, we'd appreciate it if you could help with covering the hanging fee -- but no artist will be turned away because they cannot do so. Let's do this!

Tomorrowland
Posted 10 years agoWow, this movie seems to have really divided people. Some people HATE IT. Myself, I'll state my own opinion about it thusly: See This Movie. Ignore the haters and the cranky critics and get thy keester into a theater NOW.
Yes, the film is preachy. Thank goodness. It preaches exactly the sort of intellectual kick-in-the-butt that I think we NEED right now with the current zeitgeist. People don't think (or at least talk much) about these issues these days and I bloody well think that we should again. Yes, it's a movie that asks you to THINK a bit about what it's saying. Huzzah.
I find it significant that both my life-mate AND myself were tearing up severely at the end of this thing. We're the exact sort of nerds this movie was made for. I hope there are a lot more out there.
