Nasty Winter Storm Here
General | Posted 19 years agoFor the first time this winter, we actually get winter precipitation in my area and all it turns out to be is sleet. Supposedly, snow is supposed to start falling at midnight tonight but right now the only ground cover we have is pure ice. The road here in our apartment complex is dangerous enough let alone the highway with other drivers and passengers to worry about. Needless to say, I'm not going to work tonight.
I don't drive so the only real effect it has on me is whether or not I can find someone willing to drive in this kind of weather. I was not so fortunate tonight. Luckily I've got sick time accumulating that I can use to make up for lost time.
This weather really is quite depressing though. All you hear is sirens all day long. I'd hate to be cleaning up the accidents. That's just something I cannot deal with.
Negativity aside, I feel that no holiday season is complete without the view of a winter wonderland and I hope the sleet turns into snow so that we may be able to enjoy it!

Here Goes Nothing
General | Posted 19 years agoWell, in the morning I'm going to have to brave the After Thanksgiving sale at Wal*Mart. Needless to say I better be prepared for people to consume me while shopping for the best deals. Last year, I was working in the toy department and survived. But who knows!
Unfortunately, I've been placed in charge of shopping carts and carry outs with a few other associates. I'd almost rather deal with the madness inside. I hate pushing carts! I did it for two excruciating years and that was enough.
If you've never been to a sale like this, it's absolutely nuts. Customers are lined up for what seems like miles waiting to get into the store when we open and when we finally open, you best stay out of their way or else you'll get trampled. Last year was my first experience and I have to say that I wished I had the energy to stand in line for hours and then run clear across the store fighting old women for an Elmo or in some cases a shopping cart and parking spaces.
Electronics and Toys both have the most congestion as you can imagine. It was almost impossible to get through so you can assist a customer with something. And to make matters worse, the special sale items are placed randomly throughout the store. So good luck answering 5-10 people at once when they're asking you where each specific item is.
I don't know how busy it will be this year and how well our merchandise will sell because on top of everything else... our customers will not be able to place anything in Layaway. Should be interesting to see how well the HDTV s and various expensive items are going to sell without it.
The only thing I'm dreading the most is that I'm scheduled from 9:00 tonight until 8:00 tomorrow morning. Wal*Mart opens at 5:00 in the morning so I imagine those last three hours are going to be long...
WISH ME LUCK!
