Rorschfox on Patreon!
Posted 10 years agoFor a great many years, I've wanted to be a full-time artist and writer. Slowly but surely, I'm edging towards that goal. But if that is ever to happen, I know now that I need a little help.
As an artist who works almost exclusively in traditional media (in fact, I only use a computer to scan, tidy and print my work), the cost of producing even a single piece of work is quite high - even discounting the time it takes me.
Which is why, after much careful consideration, I've decided to open an account on Patreon.
So, does this mean I'll stop uploading artwork here on Fur Affinity or on InkBunny? Absolutely not! I'll keep on uploading all my new artwork here, just the same as I've always done. But it does mean that if anyone wants to see the hi-res versions of my work (or else just wants to support me as an artist), then they can do so.
Currently, there are three tiers set up on my Patreon: $1, $3 or $5 a month. Both the $3 and $5 tiers will give access to scans of the full collection of non-commissioned colour pieces I've finished during that month, and the $5 tier will include scans of all my sketches from the month as well as my older pieces. There'll also be a few bonus items thrown in from time to time, and even the occasional freebie.
(And yes, it does mean folks will get to see hi-res versions of my 18+ stuff, too - so please, no minors!)
Thank you for reading this!

Back from ConFuzzled, and future plans...
Posted 11 years agoI'm back from ConFuzzled, and now finally all up to date with my e-mails and stuff: so I thought I'd state my opinions of the convention here!
As ever, ConFuzzled was fantastic. The new venue is excellent, and I actually managed to find it without getting lost en route (which makes a change!). And it goes without saying that it was a whole lot of fun, too. I may have spent most of my time behind my table in the dealers' den, but the events I did attend - including the PawPet show and the live auction - were as great as ever. Plus it was good to meet everybody - be they new friends or old - at the convention, too!
But much as I'd love to come back next year, I currently cannot be certain of it...
Don't get me wrong - the problems I have are nothing to do with either the convention, or the venue. (Quite the opposite, in fact - it's precisely because of them that I want to return in 2015!) But although I don't want to go into details, there is a very real possibility that I've visited my last ConFuzzled - and that EF20 in August will be my last ever convention.
That last part isn't easy to admit - I've been attending conventions in the USA, UK and Germany since 2002 - but I really don't think I'm going to have any choice in the matter.
Not that I have any intention of giving up my artwork or writing, though. I'll still be producing those (although I have been a little quiet on those fronts the past few weeks). I've also got a few new things in the pipeline that I'll mention shortly. So you will still get to see plenty of new work from me!
Just not at conventions, as things are going at the moment...

Off to ConFuzzled 2014!
Posted 11 years agoYep, I'm heading back to ConFuzzled this year: and I'll be setting off on my journey to get there tomorrow morning!
(I still won't be getting there until Friday morning, though - I'm taking a bit of a detour on the way...)
For anyone wanting to find me there, I'm on dealers' den tables 66 and 67; and I'll have 14 items going into the artshow this year. As well as 12 original pieces of artwork, I've also got a commission auction, and a 100% charity item - a limited edition hardback copy of RedSilver, signed by myself and Silent Ravyn!
And for anyone who's going this year, I look forward to seeing you there!

Rorschfox artwork on Fox News?
Posted 12 years agoYep, it's true: my artwork got featured on the Fox News show, "Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld", on September 14th!
It all started with an e-mail from one of the show's producers on the previous day, where they asked me if they could use some of my artwork on their programme. At first, I thought it was a prank; but as I checked up on it, I found out that it wasn't a spam mail, but an actual legitimate request!!
As someone who knows copyright law (thanks to a friend), I asserted my moral rights as an artist, ensuring they couldn't alter the artwork in any way. They agreed, and picked three of my pieces to show: Warrior Panda, Joy and Aiden.
(Moral rights are very important for artists here in the UK. They're vital for anyone who wants to protect their work, and I'd strongly advise any artist who values their work to assert said rights at all times, and never even consider waiving them!!)
I'll admit, I was stunned by this turn of events, and I was astonished to see my artwork appear on the show. (I saw it for the first time over the weekend.) But it was fun to see, and I'd certainly consider doing something like that again!
And for those who missed it, you can see the full episode here:-
http://video.foxnews.com/v/26765793.....red-eye-91413/
(My art appears in the final section, about a minute from the end of the show.)

Reason for Temporary Art Slowdown
Posted 12 years agoThose folks who've watched me here on FA for a while will have noticed that I haven't uploaded as much artwork of late as I used to.
Well, that's going to change very soon - I'm back working on a whole load of new stuff, and I'll have some new work to upload next week.
As for why I've been quiet: as well as being an artist, I'm also a writer. I've been concentrating on my writing a lot more this past year or so, although I've now been able to find a better art/writing balance, so things are going to change.
(It does mean spare time is something that doesn't exist, but hey - I love drawing and writing, so that's no problem!)
My writing means I'll have two new novels appearing very shortly. The first - "RedSilver: Nature's Evolutions" - will be going to press in the next couple of weeks. The second - which has the working title "Rebellion" - is only about half written at the moment (~44000 words), although that one should also be getting printed either in December or January.
So busy foxy has been busy, I can assure you!

Conventions for 2014
Posted 12 years agoNow I’ve finished my conventions for this year, I just thought I’d update everyone with which conventions I’m currently planning (or at the very least contemplating) attending in 2014.
The conventions are:-
ConFuzzled: DEFINITE
Anthrocon: UNLIKELY (planning to return in 2015)
ScotiaCon: POSSIBLE (pending on works holidays)
EuroFurence: DEFINITE
Yes, I’ll definitely be attending EF next year. It’s moving from Magdeberg to Berlin, which is a lot easier to get to for me. It’s also going to be the first time I’ve been to Germany since 2011, and I’m really looking forward to it!
I’ll have a whole lot of new artwork and books for any convention I attend next year, plus a lot of more specialised items (keyrings, magnets, coasters, etc.). It does mean I’ll need a whole lot more table space, but it’s going to be worth it!
And if you’re going to any conventions I’ll be attending, I’ll see you there!

Off to ConFuzzled
Posted 13 years agoHi!
Just thought I'd best mention that I'll be off to ConFuzzled later today, so don't be surprised if it takes a while for me to reply to comments or PMs!
I've got a place in the dealers' den at CF, and I'll have art going in the artshow. Not only that, but I'll be selling prints and CDs on behalf of
Eliki, so you might want to check out his stuff, too!
And to anyone who's going: I'll see you there!

Furry DMC in development
Posted 13 years agoA friend of mine here on FA,
Kainhawkins, is currently involved in the development of a furry hack & slay game - a kind of "Devil May Cry" with furries.
I'm looking at helping him and his team with the project (as a music writer), but he's still looking for support and assistance with it.
If you want to read more about it, you need to check out:-

Blaze: A Model Vixen
Posted 13 years agoMy latest novel, "Blaze: A Model Vixen" is now available to buy via FurBuy.
Featuring a gorgeous cover and illustrations by
SilentRavyn, it really does look brilliant!
It's got some very adult content in it, though - so it's definitely not one for the kits!!
Anyone who's interested might like to look at:-

No, I haven't carked it!
Posted 13 years agoI know I've been very quiet here on FA the last few months, but there's been a whole load of reasons why you haven't seen much from this foxy!
Since I got back from EF last year, I've been getting a lot of bad headaches and migraines, which make doing much artwork pretty near impossible. The good news is I've got that sorted now, and I'm back producing artwork!
As well as working on several new projects, of course...
My latest book - "Blaze: A Model Vixen" - will be making an appearance on FurBuy over the weekend. Featuring a cover and illustrations by
SilentRavyn, it's a story based around Blaze (my vixen with the striped hips and shoulders), and her relationship with Rorschene and Honey. It's strictly adults-only, though...
I've also got a lot of new artwork to upload, which I'll start doing once I've gotten it all scanned and cleaned up. This includes a sketch of a mythical animal I've never drawn before!
Also, I'm only attending a single convention this year - ConFuzzled, in Hinkley. (EuroFurence is a no-go this year.) But I'm already making plans for next year...
I'm going to be attending AnthroCon 2013! Not as a dealer, just a regular attendee - but this foxy will be there!
And thanks to everyone who's kept watching me while I've been quiet! Trust me, there's a lot of new artwork to come!

Back from EuroFurence!
Posted 14 years agoYep, I'm back home from EF17. Well, most of me is, I think - my brain's still somewhere on route...
EF was its usual brilliant convention, and I got to meet a lot of really great people there. I'm hoping to make it back there next year!
(Although I will definitely be attending ConFuzzled 2012 in Hinkley.)
More sensible journals to follow once my poor fried brain decides to make a reappearance!

Off to EuroFurence!
Posted 14 years agoJust a quick little note to say I'll be leaving for EuroFurence tomorrow morning!
I should arrive early on Wednesday afternoon, so look out for a 1996 Nissan March (Micra) in ice silver with a fox silhouette on the bonnet! And I'll be in the dealers' den again this year!
(Plus I've got a whole lot of art going in the artshow, too!)

New Thundercats - HELP!!
Posted 14 years agoNo, this isn't another journal about somebody who's been watching the new Thundercats TV series. I wish I actually had the darn opportunity to!
See, the major problems are that (1) I'm not based in the United States of America, and (2) I can't stream what's been uploaded so far - my poor PC isn't even remotely up to the task. Which is where you guys come in...
If someone could record the episodes onto DVD for me (I don't own a VCR any more!), I would be willing to offer one or two full-colour commissions in return. (One piece featuring two characters, or two solo pieces.) I would also happily mail out the commission(s), plus the sketches and a digital print of the final piece(s), free of charge.
My only requests are if you could possibly get the whole series (13 episodes, if my information is correct), and if you don't mind me producing the commissions after I return from EF17, in about two weeks' time.
Is anyone interested?

Off to ConFuzzled!
Posted 14 years agoJust a quick journal to let everyone know I'll be leaving for ConFuzzled in a few hours' time, and won't be online until I get back.
If you're going, I'll have a table in the Dealers' Den, plus art in the artshow. And you might want to keep on the lookout for a white and black fox with glowing blue eyes...
I'll take this journal down as soon as I get back.
Thanks for reading!

Past, Present and Future
Posted 14 years agoWhooo, covering a lot of things in this journal!
Firstly, thank you to all my watchers, both new and old. You're the inspiration that helps this foxy to keep drawing!
As for the subject of this journal...
The Past: I'm considering uploading a selection of my older pieces onto this account, as well as my new pieces once they're finished. (I've got 330 finished pieces to date!) How would everyone feel about this?
The Present: Next week, I'll be heading off to ConFuzzled, where I'll be selling my artwork as well as fursuiting. So if you're going, keep on the lookout for a white and black fox with glowing blue eyes!
The Future: As well as having a new novel that's going to press in a couple of months, I'm also working on a massive new project involving Allypex, my kitsune/phoenix hybrid. But this is something completely different to anything I've done before...
Basically, I'm looking at producing a comic based around her - one that will, if everything goes to plan, see a first issue produced around the end of this year. Although I'll also upload odd pages here on FA too!
And in case you're wondering: I'll still be producing more artwork in the meantime, too!

Projects and Plans
Posted 15 years agoBusy foxy has been busy!
As well as having a whole load of new artwork I'm currently working on - like about 30 pieces, at last count! - I'm also working on a number of new book projects:
A Blaze novel, which is in the editing stage, and will be going to press in June 2011;
A sci-fi novel under the working title "Rebellion", which will hopefully follow in 2012;
A lycanthrope novel called "Red/Silver", which I'm just starting to work on, and hoping to get into print in 2013;
And an updated version of my MOTARUS Roleplaying Game, which I'm working on when time permits, and I'm also hoping will be printed in 2013.
I'll be doing two conventions in 2011: ConFuzzled, in Manchester, England; and EuroFurence, in Magdeberg, Germany. I've had way too much fun at both conventions in the past to miss either of them any time soon!
If everything goes according to plan, I'm also hoping to make it to Anthrocon in a few years' time, too. I won't be selling at that one, though - I'll be going as a fursuiter. (IF I can get my electronics-laden fursuit through customs and security, of course!!)
In the meantime, I should have some new artwork and auctions soon, so please keep an eye out for them!

I'm back!
Posted 15 years agoI'm back from my brief break from FA!
Thanks to everyone who offered their support while I was away! It really means a lot to me.
The construction of my fursuit is also coming along quite nicely, and it should be ready to make its debut at ConFuzzled 2010 in Manchester this May.
Work is also progressing on my latest novel (under the working title of "Rebellion"), which I'm hoping to get printed in the spring of next year.
And of course, I'm working on a whole load of new artwork, which I'll be uploading as soon as its all done!

Taking a Break
Posted 15 years agoFollowing a recent heart-related issue, I will be taking a short break from both FA and the furry fandom in general.
It won't be permanent - I will be back, honest!! But for the next 2 weeks at least (maybe more), I won't be around FA.
Obviously, this means I won't be able to reply to PMs or the like; so if anyone desperately needs to get hold of me, my suggestion would be to e-mail me. I can check my e-mails without a computer, so this is no problem to me.
For those of you who don't know, I actually have three separate heart problems - and their combination is untreatable. (There are no medications available that can treat them together.) However, it was both caused by, and is triggered by, stress; so if I can avoid any stress for a few weeks, I should be fine.
I may be away, but I won't be giving up on artwork during that time: so I will have something to show at the end of all this.
Thanks for reading, and I'll be back soon.

Updates
Posted 16 years agoI've been a little quiet here on FA of late (regardless of the downtime!), so I thought I should let folks know my plans for the next year!
I will be attending two conventions in 2010:-
ConFuzzled 2010, in Manchester, England, with
Stripekazama ; and
EuroFurence 16, in Magdeberg, Germany, with
Fritti
I will be running dealers' den tables at both conventions, and intend to have artwork in the artshows at both, too.
Also, although I will be attending EF16, I won't be on the Furball Run: my plans are to take the overnight ferry from Harwich to Hoek van Holland, arriving at the convention on the Wednesday afternoon. Yes, I'm driving: but I've already got a passenger for the event!
I will also have my fursuit built and ready in time for ConFuzzled, and I'll also be wearing it at EuroFurence. (Actually, it's the main reason why I have to drive - my suit has a lot of electronics in it, and I don't want to be arrested going through airport security as a suspected terrorist!!!)
I'm also going to say here that, as of next year, I will no longer be accepting commissions beyond those I already have; and those I do currently have I will no longer accept payment for. (So if you have a paying commission with me, it's now a free one!)
The reason? I'm working on two large book projects at the moment, and I've also got a lot of other artwork I'd like to draw in the meantime.
The list of folks I owe commissions or gifts to is as follows:-

Well, that's everything for now, I think!
I will be attending two conventions in 2010:-
ConFuzzled 2010, in Manchester, England, with
Stripekazama ; andEuroFurence 16, in Magdeberg, Germany, with

An Unfortunate Encounter...
Posted 16 years agoIt's been an unusual day today, thanks to something that happened on my way to work this morning.
It started off normally enough - riding my motorcycle firstly along main roads before switching to country lanes. I also had my usual fair share of asswipes driving right up my trumpet, which I'm kinda used to now. (Amazing the number of drivers who don't understand that bikes do actually corner more slowly than cars - my bike especially!)
It was while I was travelling through one such lane that I spotted something in the road ahead of me. I knew it was an animal of some description, but as I drew closer, I realised it was a fox; and so, when I could, I turned the bike around and went for a closer look.
I already knew the fox had been hit by a car, but it looked as though there was a chance it was still alive - there was little blood, and its body was pretty much unmarked. So I parked my bike up in a nearby driveway and, when it was clear (it was a very narrow lane!!), I knelt down by it. It was a young vixen - one of this years' cubs, probably no more than six months old. I rested my gloved hand on her, but she didn't move; so I checked for a pulse, but not only could I find none, but she was cold. (Bear in mind I'm a foxologist: I've been studying them for over 17 years, so I do know what I'm doing!!)
Although this little vixen was dead, I wasn't going to leave her there in the middle of the road: so I picked her up with the same gentleness and respect I would have a live animal, and carried her to the edge of the road. My only regret is there was nothing more I could do for her...
This vixen isn't the first fox I've ever handled - she's the fifth I've held over the years - but she is the first dead one. But although the spark of life had left her, it didn't alter the respect I felt for her. I wasn't going to just leave her, like the rest of the people who'd just speed on, ignoring her...
I can't do that. I won't do that - ever.
So rest in peace, my little vixen...

An Apology
Posted 16 years agoI've been a bad foxy recently.
I've sent some PMs to two specific friends here (I won't give names, but I'm sure you know who are) which are plain hurtful, or else could be considered so.
Since I caused this by sending PMs in the first place, I've decided to make my apologies here, in my Journal.
To my first friend: I didn't mean any of the things I put in that PM. I was hurt, I was stressed: but that doesn't excuse what I put. I know you were only trying to help me, even if that's not quite how I read it the first time. All I can honestly say is sorry. I promise you I won't write another PM like that again.
To my second friend: I've been a little pushy with my last two PMs to you, and that just isn't me - even if I had the best of intentions. Worse still, there is a line in the most recent PM which could very easily be misread, making it very hurtful. To you, I must also say sorry: that line definitely isn't meant the way it can sound, and I promise to back off from now.
(Sigh.) Sometimes, I wish there was a button on the PMs that would allow you to retract a message...
To both the friends I've offended, I apologise.
Please forgive me for sometimes being a bit of an asshole.
