2009 meme

AllyCat for this. She guilt-tripped me into doing another one.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Left my time-zone.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
You can't keep what you don't have to begin with. No, I have not made any for 2010, given I'd never remember them, anyway.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. I don't think it's going to happen any time soon, either.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I recall.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, but I did visit South Australia, marking the furthest I've been from home to date. Still haven't left mainland Australia yet. Not that I'm complaining.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
More information about various topics I can use in my own programs.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
None whatsoever.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably being able to say I now have a Bachelor of Computer Science degree (passed my last exams in 2008, graduated in early 2009).
9. What was your biggest failure?
Nothing stands out in my mind.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Eh, just the usual minor stuff.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Some hardware upgrades for my computer.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I can't think of anyone.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Nobody comes to mind.
14. Where did most of your money go?
New video card because the old one was too much of a slug, then replacing the DVD burner, which broke down. Finally, a new motherboard, processor, and memory. While I could probably have gotten away with the old processor for a while longer, the motherboard had to be replaced because the poor design of the old one meant I couldn't get at two of the SATA sockets after the graphics card upgrade. Running half the system off a USB hard drive is not much fun, I'll say that!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting a compiler working after an operating system upgrade.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
What kind of a question is that?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? No change
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, although in my case, that's a good thing as it means I'm not as underweight as I was a year ago.
c) richer or poorer? Probably poorer after spending over $2000 on computer hardware.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Anything creative, especially work on my programming projects.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Ending up with writer's block (or the equivalent for art or programming).
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it at home. Mum had some of her friends over. I was rather bored.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I have better things to put my mind to.
22. How many one-night stands?
Whoever came up with this quiz is sick for asking this question.
23. What was your favourite internet TV program?
Not sure if I have one. I did look forward to downloading the Doctor Who specials and I did enjoy the new Stargate series. Yeah, yeah, I know they're broadcast, but I download my viewing material.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not that I can think of.
25. What was the best book you read?
"100 Most Important Science Ideas". Worth a read.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
A few Ear Worms.
27. What did you want and get?
Some hardware upgrades for the computer.
28. What did you want and not get?
Better Internet access (because it's not available where I live).
29. What was your favourite film(s) of this year?
Nothing stands out, I have to admit.
30. What did you do on your birthday?
Don't remember.
31. What is one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
No idea.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Er, same as always?
33. What kept you sane?
Who says I'm sane?
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Not Applicable.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Can't think of anything.
36. Who did you miss?
Nobody.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Of the few new people I did meet, I don't think any of them qualify as best in any category.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
There is no possible way to explain religion in a way which will make sense. Just thinking about that conversation I had with that nut from America gives me a headache.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Unable to comply. Insufficient data available.

Forty questions
Posted 16 years agoBlame
AllyCat for this. Her prolific posting of these kinds of things has guilt-tripped me into doing another one.
1. Can you cook?
Yes, as long as it's something for which I have the recipe memorised.
2. What was your dream growing up?
You can't seriously expect me to remember something from over twenty years ago when I can't even remember what I had for dinner last night.
3. What talent do you wish you had?
Better coding skills, maybe some cracking skills, too.
4. Favourite place?
Right in front of my computer.
5. Favourite vegetable/s?
Suffice it to say asking me to cut up snow peas pretty-much guarantees that around a third of them will never end up in the microwave.
6. What was the last book you read?
On the computer: Making Money, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Dead Tree Edition: God is NOT Great (How Religion Poisons Everything), by Christopher Hitchens.
7. What zodiac sign are you?
Don't know, don't care. Neither should you.
8. Any Tattoos and/or Piercings?
You'd have to pay me a very hefty bribe for me to get even the smallest available.
9. Worst Habit?
Not sure if it qualifies as a habit, but getting jammed up when speaking aloud to other people. Bloody frustrating for me, too.
10. What was the last thing you touched besides the keyboard?
DVD burner.
11. What is your favorite sport?
Unless you count computer games, nothing.
12. Negative or Optimistic attitude?
Optimist, no doubt about it.
13. Can you eat 50 hot wings?
Assuming that's some kind of insanely spicy chicken, my answer is no. Why? 1. I hate chicken. 2. While I may like spicy food, I don't like it too spicy, and most commercial foods labelled as "hot" are insanely so.
14. Worst thing to ever happen to you?
Any time I've been falsely accused of something.
15. Tell me one weird fact about you:
I think more like a machine than an animal?
16. Do you have any pets?
Just the family cat. He's turning 14 this year.
17. What’s the weirdest pet you’ve owned?
Snails when I was in primary school.
18. Where are you?
At my desk, in front of my computer.
19. What is the dumbest thing you’ve done while intoxicated?
NOT APPLICABLE! I've never been intoxicated due to the fact I can't have alcohol.
20. If you could change one thing about how you look, what would it be?
Unrealistic: a permanent shave so I don't have to scrape metal over my face.
Realistic: gain about 10kg so I'm no longer underweight.
21. Weapon of choice?
BFG9000! (Yeah, so I like Doom for DOS, so what?)
22. What color eyes do you have in real life?
Grey.
23. Ever been arrested?
Nope. If I ever do, it had better be for something to make the police really earn their pay.
24. Bottle or Draft?
I can't have alcohol. If I did, I'd be a dead man. Literally.
25. If you found a £100 note on the ground, what would you do?
Bank it and put it towards a hardware upgrade for my computer. Although, realistically, it seems far more likely that someone would lose a $50 note than a $100 one, given $50 notes are far more common.
26. What kind of bubble gum do you prefer to chew?
I don't make a habit of chewing gum as it's so hard to swallow.
27. Where’s your favourite place to hang out?
The Internet, where else?
28. Do you like your room cold or hot?
For someone with hardly any body fat, I have a surprisingly good tolerance for the cold, and an abysmal one for the heat. I'd rather have my room a couple of degrees too cold than a couple too hot.
29. Favourite thing to do in your spare time?
General mucking around with my computer.
30. Do you swear a lot?
Actually, I swear very little. When I do swear, it's rarely any stronger than what you'd hear in Back to the Future. If I ever say f***, you can be certain I'm really upset.
31. Biggest pet peeve?
Not being able to have access to information I want when I want it.
32. In one word, how would you describe yourself?
UNDEFINED
33. What’s your shoe size?
Not sure. I think it might be 9 in Australian sizes.
34. Do you have the same features (eye color, body size) as your furry character?
Yes, and I have a hard time getting artists to draw him thin enough to match me.
35. What is your favourite outfit?
Dark red shirt, navy blue trousers, black socks and shoes.
36. Favourite image in all of the internet?
Oh, come on! You're asking the impossible there!
37. How many windows/tabs do you have open?
About fifty Firefox tabs. About a dozen programs in total.
38. What's your desktop image?
Nothing. I only ever see my desktop when the computer starts up, and I only reboot it about once every month or two, so there isn't much point in setting a background image, is there?
39. What shampoo do you use?
Buggered if I know. Works well, though.
40. What cologne do you use?
Now, why would I want to put some chemical that just makes a horrid stink on myself?
I'm amazed that whoever first posted the questions didn't check their spelling. Even I know there's a 'u' in "favourite".

I can't believe I'm doing this...
Posted 16 years agoOkay, so seeing as AllyCat has been posting her results with various tests, I decided I may as well give the personality test a go (http://similarminds.com/global-adv.html).
I think a number of my scores are too high, especially for traits where I scored low. The areas where I scored 10%, I think I should have ended up with 0%. The Mystical score I think should have also been zero.
As for whether or not my overall results are accurate, I can't really tell.

I think a number of my scores are too high, especially for traits where I scored low. The areas where I scored 10%, I think I should have ended up with 0%. The Mystical score I think should have also been zero.
As for whether or not my overall results are accurate, I can't really tell.

What the heck...
Posted 17 years agoNormally, I only update my journal at DeviantArt when I've submitted four images. I figured if I'm writing journal entries there, I may as well do it here.
As anyone who's had a look around my gallery will have deduced, I have a rather cartoon-based style of drawing.
Recently, I did some touch-up work on an image from AllyCat's gallery. I hope I'm not going to end up making a habit out of it, but I like the results of my tinkering better than the original image.
I have no idea when my next journal will come, so until next I post, enjoy the galleries of the myriad of other artists here. No doubt their work will be better than mine. :)
