About the inactivity + New Year comm slots
Posted 6 years agoSince September I've been feeling run down and shitty in a way that's had me struggling to concentrate thanks to career related stress and an ongoing dental issue - turns out it was an abscessed tooth that had me feeling so shitty and excessively tired. Both issues are dealt with or starting to be dealt with.
In regards to the dental issue I need the abscess to clear up before the necessary work can be done. I've been given antibiotics for it which do feel like they are starting to work - I am starting to feel like I have more energy. They did make me feel worse for a bit, just when I thought I couldn't feel any more tired and shitty than I was. At one point I was going to bed at 4pm and sleeping straight through for 12-15 hours. After a week of being too tired to do anything but work through Jedi: Fallen Order let's plays (Cal is a fantastic lead and I hope there's a novel tie-in), yesterday I managed to get a tiny bit of research and plot development for my WW2 story done. It was a relief and a good sign I'm finally starting to get better.
For the career stress that's been distracting me, I can now say I have a conditional offer with an amazing sponsor I'm really lucky and grateful to have. It'll allow me to start training for my dream job as navigation officer in September 2020. Honestly? It feels like I finally got my Hogwarts letter.
It's pretty fucking hilarious that for someone who swore they were never going to uni I need to go to uni to get the ticket I need to qualify as navigation officer. Also one of the more vivid childhood memories I have of school is where I had bit of a tantrum stating I'd never use algebra at work because it was frustrating me and guess what? Ship stability math IS algebra. :'D
I'm currently working on updating all my TH icons for consistency's sake. Again. I also wanted a proper OC roster sheet because having a quick at a glance overview of everyone in one place is handy. It helps me decide who to draw or write.
I started picking at this project around the time this all went to shit. With 20 busts it's a large project but because I have been struggling with concentration it's really dragged. I was hoping to have lines finished and be well into shading by now but I've only managed to line 6 and a half busts.
Real Currency Commissions.
I'm gonna open them properly next year.
I come back from my Christmas contract on the 11th (that's assuming I have a night flight home) but I often need a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, I'll likely open the first batch of commission slots soon after that.
Right now my aim is just to earn back the cost of my dental appointments.
Depending on how commissions go I may open them up sporadically for a bit of extra pocket money.

Historical OC discord servers?

I work with WW2, WW1 and Age of Sail OC's so I'm looking for relevant servers.
General OC and sci-fi OC server suggestions are welcome and appreciated though it's easier finding servers for those.
NSFW channels are nice but not a requirement, whilst I do work with NSFW from time to time because it can give an extra layer of development to a pair of character's dynamic, I don't do a whole lot of it.
18+ channels strongly preferred. FYI I'm 26 (11 May 1993).
I'm not on all the time and I'm prone to forgetting to check in so a server I can leave for a bit then pick up and not be pushed out because I stayed away too long would be great.
I'm not looking for RP groups though I am down for them under the condition there's no activity restrictions.
Alt history or something leaning more towards fantasy like Pirates of the Caribbean is fine for RP's!
I work out of the country for long periods. I have long work days and don't always have the energy to write after I'm done for the day. When I do have energy I'm not always going to be able to post what I've done to the RP right away. Whilst I do have access to wifi when working, ship wifi is fussy and not a reliable service. It's like trying to use a 90's dial-up connection at best. At worst it takes 5 mins to load a page and ultimately decide to time out.

Work hiatus May 31 to Sep 2 and WIP previews
Posted 6 years agoHad a really early start date for my Summer contract so it's work hiatus time again.
Will be on hiatus from May 31 to Sep 1 though I'm presuming I'll have a night flight back from JFK again at the end of the contract.
I'll need a week or so to get back into the swing of things.
As is my habit now, here's a couple of WIP's.
First up is a Francis bust, I actually like this enough to submit as a standalone but now I’m gonna be making these to update TH icons in batches by plot so holding off for 5 mins.

Next up, my last project was to try to get a design for Friedrich, the German POW William grabs on a raid down. He does get a tattoo about a year into the sci-fi plot but I was pushing it with time to sit down and solidify the design. Admittedly I did put off designing Friedrich because he grows his hair out and experiments with dye in the sci-fi canon he needs 2 designs but he's coming along nicely. I should not be finishing up linework when I have to be up at 4:45am to drive down to the port but artists amirite?
Idk if I've drawn him in the correct uniform, it's shockingly hard to find good refs for German WW1 uniforms. I'm not 100% sure what his rank is yet either I just know he's an Eastern Berliner in an Infantry regiment.

I will however be checking into DA, Toyhouse and Flight Rising.

Posted 6 years agoI forgot to put a work hiatus notice up so I apologize for that! I signed off today and just got home from the airport but I'll need a bit of time to get back into the swing of things, I usually need a week or so.
It was a fun contract though; the team really gelled and we had a great dynamic going on. I've worked on that ship before so it was nice to go back, it's got a very homely feel to it.
There's a fair few projects I wanted to work on (and had intended to work on before my contract started) including but not limited to finally making drawings of OC's who still don't have art in my current style. I've generated new ideas for historical OC's and have been developing my sci-fi plot in my short breaks so I'm keen to work on those characters in particular. My sci-fi OC's have been on the back burner for such a long time whilst I've not known exactly what I want from that plot or the direction I want to take it in but now I'm starting to figure things out I'm starting to think about those characters more.
Idk how much I'll get done since I only have a month of leave before I'm back on ship for 3 months but I'm hoping to knock a big chunk off my to-do list.
I got hooked on The Man in the High Castle (still on season 1, no spoilers pls) whilst I was working. Anyone else found any neat shows/movies?

Researching for my historical plots has become something of a hobby and I like having somewhere to dump what I learn. I prefer to watch anti-war war drama and I’m also very interested in human psychology so when working with historical plots I’m generally more interested in the psychological impact of war.

Doesn’t count my magazine collection, I regularly pick up FlyPast and Britain at War as well as various wartime specials which I also use for research.
Though I am predominantly a SFW artist I do handle NSFW and I am trash for shipping my own OC's.
I tend to use smut as another layer for developing character dynamics especially when a BDSM dynamic becomes involved.
I like to explore BDSM dynamics as well as vanilla sex.
Characters I will use for NSFW: Jasper, William, Oscar, Raven, Lucian, Hendrix, Beck, Max, Sparks, Francis and Owen
Characters I will use for BDSM dynamics: Jasper, William, Oscar, Cardinal, Hendrix and Beck

Now I’ve got a base idea down I’m starting to headcanon within this universe again. I’m still working out details regarding the digital overlays and figuring out how the pocket universes work as well as tweaking some character roles. I haven’t gotten as far as figuring out stuff like WHAT in the real world can be affected by the digital overlays or how you access them though it’s probably something to do with nanotech. Once I have all those details figured this plot will go back to active status.

The crossover happens just after the Somme for my WW1 OC’s so they get a decent amount of time in their intended setting. Otherwise it’s largely the same as the Digitalis plot just with an added layer of the historical crossover and the psychological impact it has on my WW1 OC’s.

Essentially this plot is an excuse for me to play with both Spitfires and Lancasters because I love both.

This is by far my most developed plot I have it down to an almost day by day account of events however I lack the technical knowledge for how the ships would of been sailed in the 1800’s so I’m currently holding the plot whilst I research that. Because I wanna be able to write my boys actually doing their jobs and because I didn’t have that base knowledge this plot was starting to slip towards those artistic period melodramas I like to bitch about which is not what I want from the plot at all.
Associated characters: Francis, Owen, Archie and Sandy

There’s a lot more going on with glitchy digital overlays that can impact reality (think of the market scene in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and you’re pretty close to what I’m aiming for) and little pocket universes but it’s difficult to explain in a brief sentence.Status: Semi-active but being re-worked.
