Home and RF
General | Posted 11 years agoSo yeah been awhile since I've made a journal, so here goes. Still living in the apartment and looking for a roommate still. On the job front, still working the same one but the good news is they finally hired a second person to do my job so hopefully my 50+ hour work weeks will be coming to an end. Only thing started three days before I left on vacation, so very rushed training before I left. So will be interesting to see if he is still there when I get back, lol.
On that note, I am currently on vacation visiting my family in Montana. So will be on and off depending on availability of WiFi for me to use my tablet on. Definitely Twitter is the best bet to get a hold of me (or call/text if you have my number). So the whole WiFi thing is due to my time home. Series of trips to see other family and spend time with my parents (actually they're treating me to a mini vacation in Yellowstone). So staying with my parents till the 25th. That's when I fly out to Rainfurrest (meme forthcoming) and then back to New England the 29th. So gonna have a nice couple weeks off.
So in all, gonna be enjoying a much needed break from work, and finishing off by going to RF. Really looking forward to RF as it'll be the second convention I've gone too. Attended FurFright 3 times so be nice to see what another convention is like.

Updates and stuff
General | Posted 11 years agoWell, as you can see, I've been back online for quite sometime. Been rather quiet on here as work has just been a nightmare and been keeping me busy (60 hour work weeks really do wear you down). Thankfully things have been quieting down the last couple of days, but that's only probably because of the holiday and things will pick right up again after the weekend.
In case you haven't figured it out, I won't be attending AC this year. Probably at this point not going to be attending AC for many years to come, but possibly one year that will change. My next convention will be Rainfurrest in September (right after being home and seeing my family).
I have moved into my new apartment and it's nice to have my own place again. Only bummer is it's pretty much the upper limit of my budget, so currently looking for a roommate to share it with. It is a two bedroom apartment, with a separate living room and kitchen. It's in Woonsocket, RI. If interested or know anyone looking, feel free to send me a note on here and will discuss the details.
Take care and for all attending AC, have a safe and fun weekend.

Offline
General | Posted 11 years agoI will be going offline after today and won't be back on till next Monday (5/19/14). I'm currently in the process of moving and won't have internet at my new place till then. If you need to get in contact with me, Twitter or my phone number (if you have it) is the best way to reach me.
Updates
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, since it's been so long since I've posted an update journal this will be a long one. There will be an abbreviated version below for those not wanting to read it all.
Well, I changed positions within my company since November and this has been a good move. I'm actually enjoying the work I'm doing and actually using some of the knowledge and skills I learned in school (for which I'm still paying off). For those who don't know, I was working in the organic extraction lab for a local environmental testing company. My new position is in their Volatile lab, and I'm the screener. Basically my job is to just screen all the samples that come in so that the analysts know if a sample is dirty or clean. If it's dirty, they can then dilute the sample so it doesn't overload or fry their instrument (which can cost them a day or more of runs when that happens). It can be stressful at times, but more rewarding and nice to work in a smaller group than I was before. It's not all good though, as I'm now on salary, ick. Nice to get a steady paycheck amount each week, but hours are meaningless now. Luckily I have been working pretty much below 50 hours so it's not that harsh. Plus lunch break is a lot more relaxing as I'm not having to watch the clock all the time. So that's work life.
For more personal stuff, I finally got a replacement car. For those that didn't read (or maybe forgot) my first car was totaled the Monday right before FurFirght. Yeah, that was a very up and down week, but was able to snag a rental to get me to and from the convention. After that, was a mix of calling in favors and taking out a rental to keep me going to and from work. The insurance situation was a complete nightmare. Long story short, some stuff I should have taken care of the past couple of years came to bite me in the rump really well. Plus the guy that hit me, his insurance guy/representative (was a company car) was just being a dick. But finally, after a few months of headaches, I finally had the check and was ready to find a new ride in middle of January. Found a nice 2011 Ford Focus that a used car dealership had near by (good guys and the owner was also the Father of my mechanic which was why I was willing to buy from him). It's a great car, with amazing gas millage, a decent audio system and in general a major step up from my 2000 Chevy Malibu (I'm nostalgic for the Malibu just as it was the first major purchase I ever made and worked to get during High School). Only real draw back on the car is that it is mint green, and I mean MINT GREEN. But hey, I got hit from the guy not noticing me, so maybe the less blend in color will prevent that.
Now for some furry stuff. For those that I haven't told and/or weren't at the Massfurbowl this last Saturday, I finally have a fursuit.
noblewolf had a pre-made partial for sale that I liked, had the money to buy him and decided to do it. Obviously it isn't of my fursona as it was a pre-made, but he's still a cutie (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12698186/ https://twitter.com/RuffeHusky/stat.....670945746944). I've decided to name him Twitch and still trying to figure him out, but really enjoyed suiting him that night. Looking forward to more outings and just getting into character more (and definitely a Ruffe Fursuit will happen in the next few years). Only have a couple pictures of him at present but I'm sure as time goes by that will change. Though suiting that night, I have such greater respect for all fursuiters out there as it isn't an easy thing to do with the limited vision and heat. Also big thanks and the biggest hugs to
TheStripedOne for suiting with me and allowing me to follow him like a lost puppy. Helped to make my first time an enjoyable experience and not a potential nightmare it could have been.
So for those wanting a quick read: New position going well, have a new car, and now have a fursuit

Not Leaving FA but
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm not leaving FA. The recent drama is really none of my business. I do not know the story from all sides nor do I really know the people involved except by name. That is all I have to say about this issue or want said here.
However, with some people moving off site, and mostly just to have a back up if FA goes down, I have created a Weasyl account. You can follow it here:
https://www.weasyl.com/~ruffe
I will slowly be uploading what I have on FA on there and then updating both accounts when I get new commissions, so there is no need to follow me on both unless you want to.

FurFright Report and Life Update
General | Posted 12 years agoFurFright:
Hey all, just finally making my FurFright report journal. Once I finally figured out a way to get there (see the life section below), it was a pretty good time. Had a blast rooming with
jouva
kivu
kairoo. Was nice to meet or remeet them again.
Overall, FurFright was mixed for me. Some good times and definitely some revelations. The bad definitely convinced me that for too long I was too focused on trying to be friends with the wrong crowd. So now I'm trying to reconnect with the good friends I had been ignoring (which has made things a lot better). Only made one panels. There were a couple others I wanted to make, but time just didn't work out. Other then roaming the dealers den and making the events in the ballroom, just spent my time wandering around and hanging out with the people I ran into. I did miss the dance competition, which bummed me as there were friends and acquaintances that were competing, but timing that evening was just off.
I'd try to list all the the people I hung out with, but I'd forget some so just gonna say it was a lot of Mass Furs and some furs I know from online. It was also a blast to give a ride to
Border-Walker both to and from FurFright. Much fun time was had and that trip goes so much faster with company then by yourself.
Life:
Well, for those who haven't heard, the Monday right before FurFirght, the guy in front of me at the toll plaza backed up into me when trying to change lanes (he got into the wrong one, panicked, and rather then you know, try to work things out with the Plaza staff, decided to throw his truck into reverse and hit the gas as he didn't think anyone was behind him. Surprise to him I was). So while the damage wasn't too severe, the mileage and age of my car worked against me, and it was declared a total. Trying to take this as a blessing in disguise. The car was approaching 200,000 miles, and well, probably didn't have much time left anyways. So getting the full value for the car without having to try to sell it is probably best. So right now looking around to see what is there and hopefully will be able to get a new car soonish. Still have to wrestle with the company representing the guy at fault to see about getting a rental, or at the very least, reimbursed for getting one to be able to make FurFright.
On the note of FurFright, had the room I was staying in not been in my name, I wouldn't have gone and been responsible. Just didn't feel it was fair to cancel the room last minute and leave my roommates without a space to crash. And honestly, after that week with the car thing, really just needed to get away and have a blast.

FurFright Roommates Needed (full)
General | Posted 12 years agoHey all, I still have some room in my hotel room for FurFirght and still looking for people to stay with me. Just respnod below or note me if you know of anyone (or yourself) who is still looking for room space for FurFright
Home, Free Art, and Fur Fright
General | Posted 12 years agoWell first, I've been back to my East Coast home for about a week now. Slowly getting readjusted to being back here. Was a nice to be back with my parents and various family for the two weeks I was there (definitely some downer parts that I'm not ready to get into). Was also able to attend a Celtic Festival while home and got to see a favorite band of mine play (as well as found some additional groups to listen to). The only other big thing is that my parents now know I'm a furry, so no more hiding where and whom I'm hanging out with (or why I go to some weird locations to hang out with friends). But overall, it was a great trip back to Montana.
As for the free art,
vingant is doing some free puppy pieces. You can sign up over here (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4990114/#cid:35625806) where you will also get the details on how to snag your own slot.
Also, for Fur Fright, I still have some space left in my hotel room and looking for potential room mates for the con. I'll be there Thursday night through Sunday (I'll be arriving later afternoon/evening Thursday after work and leaving Monday). So let me know if you or anyone you know is still looking for hotel space for the convention.

Leaving, on a Jet Plane
General | Posted 12 years agoWhile the title is corny, it is actually correct. Friday Morning I'll be flying out of the area for two weeks (August 2 through August 16), to be spending time with my family. Sadly, my laptop that was on it's last leg, no longer has a leg so I'll be computer-less through the trip. This means that I won't be online or active much on here as I'll only have my Droid as access to the outside world.
Your best bet to get a hold is either Twitter (@RuffeHusky), or Text or Email if you have those. Otherwise, expect me to be back around the 16 next month.

The Secret is Out
General | Posted 13 years agoSo yeah, with my latest submission, guess it's pretty clear that I have an interest I've kept pretty secret. I am indeed a babyfur/diaperlover. Not sure how much I'm into the baby part, but definitely fall into the later heavily. A friend just convinced me to try it out diapers on day, and well, found out it's something I enjoyed and kept on doing it. After doing some caregiver stuff with a close friend, it's also planted into me trying to actually "cub out" sometime and see if I like that as well. I do respect peoples right not to have to deal with this, but I don't feel it's something I have to hide either.
In my experience, this whole scene has gotten a terrible reputation from a couple bad apples. It's like the furry fandom at large, majority in it are great people, just some jerk ruin it for all by being inconsiderate. Most of the people I know into this scene have been well rounded and fully socially functioning individuals. In fact, some I only found out later were into this after becoming friends with them. As I said, I respect peoples right to not want to have to deal with this, but it's also my right to be open about my interests. When I do partake in this, I only do it either by myself or with like minded individuals. And I also take all precautions to make sure that others don't have to deal with any side effects of it as well (i.e. preventing smells and such).

FurFright, FireFright, and Furricane 2012
General | Posted 13 years agoTL/DR, FurFright X was great, had an awesome time and will be back next year.
Well, overall besides some minor events, FurFright X was a blast and a great time. Nothing better than being there to celebrate a conventions ten year anniversary. Awesome times with new and old friends and just wonderful to be surrounded by great people (FurFright does indeed have that "family" feeling to it). I'd just like to give a shout out to my roomies for the convention
masonthehorse
Meekrat45 and RainCheetah and his Boyfriend (whose name I can't recall sadly D: ). Thanks guys for putting up with me for the weekend. Also want to thank the staff and the hotel for working so hard and giving everyone an awesome convention.
Arrived Thursday and spent the day getting settled in and meeting up with the others in the room. Also got some last minute things and got my badge to sleep in Friday. Spent Friday doing the con stuff; attended opening ceremonies, wandered the dealers den for a bit before getting a bite to eat and attending the Car Show (many awesome rides). After that spent the day hanging out with some friends before going to the Blackjack tournament (did get to the final table in that tournament but didn't make it far after that). Friday night was a little rough but managed to keep cool and not make too much of an ass of myself.
Saturday went well, caught the Fursuit Parade (many awesome suits in it this year) and managed to catch a couple panels as well (including
Nexus_Folf's panel, which while random, was also fun and very informative). Also entered the Poker Tournament, but that didn't go so well, but was fine with that as I was then able to catch the Masquerade and then later, the live-show of The Rocky Horror Picture show. Went to bed around 1 am expecting to get a good nights rest that was interrupted at 4 am by…
FireFright 2012 occurred around 4 am Saturday-night/Sunday-morning. Some idiot messed with a fire extinguisher which then resulted in the Fire Alarms being set off and the hotel needing to evacuated (me somewhat later as I was hoping the alarm would just go away as my bed was very, very warm & comfortable). Luckily there were no serious injuries I heard of. Everyone was grumpy at the rude awakening they had but we all pulled together and made the most of the situation and being cool while waiting to be let back into the hotel. Luckily the hotel took the event in good stride and was concerned about it ruining our event then the disturbance the event caused for their staff and other guests (so big shout out to them for not kicking us out after that).
Sunday was more laid back for me (mostly cause I was keeping an eye on the hurricane headed up the east coast). Attended that fursuit games and then spent the afternoon wandering around and saying goodbye to friends who had to be leaving. Despite my better judgment, I decided to stay rather than bail on my remaining roommates (two had to leave as they wanted to start back on their journey south). I would have preferred to leave that night, but stayed for the closing festivities as things didn't look like they were going to be too bad until the later on during the day Monday). Went to the charity auction and though making some bids, didn't make any winning bids (someone always at the last minute would out bid me, but it's cool as the money was going to help the War Dogs). Closing ceremonies was bitter sweet as it was the last "official" convention event, though the dead dog party kind of counts though. Was a blast to hear about all the great things that went on, Belic's tribute to all the attendees over the last ten years. Was also wonderful to hear that we managed to all come together and raise more money on the tenth anniversary then we did the previous year (keeping true to the beating the total from the last year for ten years now). Was also somewhat fun and scary to see the Bear and others on staff get their backs waxed from making the fundraising goal. Other than that it was just chilling at the party and then sleeping for the night.
Today (Monday) was a bit hectic. Waking up and not having one roommates stuff in the room is never a fun thing. Luckily he had just crashed at another room for the night. After seeing my roommates off, I got myself loaded and quickly left so as to get ahead of the hurricane. The drive for the most part was pretty uneventful, besides a couple times with some occasionally strong wind gusts (like the one that pushed my car from 75-70... or the one that nearly made my car go into another lane). I got home safely and am not just sitting and relaxing till I have to return the boring world of life with work tomorrow.
As for Con-Swag, got a couple new badges, some stuff from FurPlanet, and little odds and ends (like buttons, a key chain, and a FurFright Cup).

FurFright 2012
General | Posted 13 years agoGuess I better do this since FurFright is only about a week away now.
Arrival and Departure
I'll be arriving sometime on Thursday and leaving no later than the early afternoon on Monday.
Where are you staying?
I'll be in the Main Hotel (the Crown Plaza in other words)
Who are you rooming with?
My room will be me,
masonthehorse,
meekrat45, TBD
Major Plans at the Con
Hanging out and finally meeting some furs I've only known online. Also in general, just have a good time
Who will you be with
Not to sure at the moment. I'm sure I'll see lots of people there, but have not yet formed or been part of an official posse
Are you shy?
Yes, or more just quiet initially. If I start to get annoying and talkative, then you know you've put me at ease.
Will you be fursuiting?
No, I still haven't had the chance to get a fursuit. I'll be running around with my blue husky tail around (thought there are few blue huskies in this area for some strange reason #mysterious)
If I see you, how can I get your attention?
Wave, say hi, call out my name, tap my shoulder. It's really easy to get my attention, though keeping it may be h... SQUIRREL!
Do you drink?
Yes, I do, but only socially. I really don't drink on my own, I like to have company.
Can I hug you?
Just be sure to get my attention first so I don't flail around and hurt myself or you (or innocent bystanders)
Can I take your picture?
Just ask first so I don't walk away and ruin the shot.
Can I buy you a drink?
Just don't get my drunk (and be sure my body angle is greater than 180 or I'll pass out lol)
Are you nice?
I try to be.Though like some, it is possible to get on my bad side (though you have to majorly screw up to make that possible).
Do you do free art?
I don't produce an art (though I really should start trying to write more again)
Will you take commissions?
See above
Dealers Den or Artist Alley?
I'll be in those areas browsing all the goodies, but no table for myself.
What is your age?
I'm old enough that you won't get arrested for giving me booze (and that's the only answer I'm willing to give)
Can I share or make conversations with you?
Hell Yes! I'm looking to meet lots of new people and connect with those I already know, so don't be afraid to strike up a conversation

Back
General | Posted 13 years agoHey all, I'm back from my hurricane of a trip. Though short on number of days, it was busy and packed. First, the traveling back and forth went all right. The only bad flight was my connecting flight to Montana out of Denver, where my plane spent an hour taxing around the Denver Airport trying to get off. I guess Thunderstorms were blowing into the valley, resulting in strong, changing direction winds requiring the air controllers to keep changing the runway due to that. However, this did result in me getting a nice outside tour of the Denver Airport. Other then that though, the flights were smooth and without event.
Had a good time, getting to see family again. Some I hadn't seen since I moved out here 3 years ago, a few got to see when I was visiting home over Christmas Time, and then I got to see a 3rd cousin I had never met before and an Uncle I hadn't seen for sure since I was 2. Other t hen that, also got to go to the wedding of a great friend of mine from college (which then the reception turned into a mini class reunion). Also cleared the air between me and an acquaintance (ex-friend minus the ex and friend part).
So over all a busy trip, but well worth it I feel like.
